My friends and I were planning to drive down from Dallas for this show on Sunday.
About 2pm we starting hearing about the chaos.
About 4 pm we learned that Charlie was gone and we cancelled our trip.
A shame.

This certainly can't be over.  There are some major questions about where the money went.  Either it was bad budgeting and they didn't have enough revenue to cover expenses or something more criminal.

There is an article on The Beat about the Sons of Anarchy cast who are owed money by this convention but never got paid.

Another story about musical artists who were given a bad check.

Eh, I don't know if we should blame guests of the con for leaving, or refusing to work without payment. I get that people traveled and planned in advanced in order to see such and such person, but you're not going to tell me that any one of you would work three days straight without payment. Also, please don't pull the "these people have tons of money" card. By sticking around you're just enabling this disgraceful, and criminal behavior. All the blame and lawsuits should fall on the people in charge of SCCC. I don't know...what do you guys think?

I agree. I don't blame the talent for leaving, especially since in some cases people are saying that even the hotel rooms the Con promised them eventually had to be paid out of their own pockets. All the blame falls on SCCC. It was really nice of some of the talent to stay and meet with fans after SCCC stiffed them, but they certainly shouldn't be blamed for not doing so.

I would never blame the talent for not staying.

Are people doing that?

Unfortunately, I encountered a lot of bad con organizers back in the 90's and this type of thing wasn't uncommon.

In the article Transmute posted the writer put some of the blame on Charlie Hunnam for 'screwing' over the fans.

What worries me is next year when Comicpalooza (another Houston  con) is back on Memorial Day weekend (they couldn't get the venue this year), people will confuse the two and not be willing to attend.
