I know I might be in the minority here, but I really hate what the new showrunners did to Fear. I was glad it was set in a different time compared to TWD. I really thought they left the show at a great point at the end of season 3. There were so many possibilities to go further into Mexico, head North with the Native Americans, or just go elsewhere.
Instead AMC abandoned the entire concept of the show (how it wasn’t TWD) and made the decision to have a time jump in order to bring it into the same timeline as TWD. Then because their writers cannot write a linear script to save their lives, they told the entire first half of the season backwards and with flashbacks.
I realize Frank Dillane (Nick) asked to be written out of the show because he wanted to go back to the UK, but his character deserved a way better sendoff.
By the third episode I figured they had killed off Madison. I wanted to give the show, the characters, and actors I’d come to love a chance. I knew as soon as the Vultures (or the West Coast version of the Saviors -0.2) showed up it was going to be a real train wreck.
Strand and Alicia carried the entire season, while flashbacks of Nick and Madison struggled to string viewers along.
With all of this said, I enjoyed the edition of John Dory, Morgan, and Al to the cast. Everything else in the season was just horrible writing and special effects. The duality of June/Naomi was so poorly written in my opinion I’m at a loss why she made it to the end of the season.
Kim Dickens (Madison) deserved a better on screen death, if in fact she is truly done with the show and not just taking a break while working on Deadwood and other projects. The fans that watched the first three seasons deserved better than some psycho bag lady terrorizing Morgan.
