There's no guarantee they will get that price. That's the free market. They're risking not getting a reservation for those rooms. It would be interesting to see how the prices go the closer we get to the Con.
To be fair, they can only get away with that price because there is very little competition. If there actually were a free market, then prices would be much lower... although obviously not as low as the prices in the CCI block.
Agree. I think that if there were a true free market (no onPeak) for Downtown Hotels, they wouldn't get away with 1000 a night. Not enough people would take it. But, they probably would get away with more than they are charging through onPeak. It would be interesting to know what a true market would bare.
I think if there was no OnPeak and SDCC hotel blocks, we could easily see $500 - $750 a night rooms. I don't think people would do $1000, but I bet $500? Easily.
Holy crap! You have to think only people with money to burn pays that, like a production studio.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's a possibility. Another option would be 4 (or more) people getting together to share a room. They'd have to really get along though.

Absolutely. I see a lot of posts of folks who are a group of four (or more), and I'm sure it's a lot of fun. I'm just too old to share a bed or sleep on the floor. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Were you able to get a room this year? How did you like the Horton? I have seen no reviews on the forum and looking for some insight. Seems small..
I think the thing a lot of us forget, is that many groups pack their hotel rooms with 4+ people. $500 split by 4 is only $125 a night. It affects people like myself much worse than those. I always stay at the hotel with only my lady friend and I. We've been asked multiple times to split it with others, but we're happy just having the two of us. Even with the both of us having decent jobs, $250+ per person totaling $500 a night at the hotel is still a killer.
