You look like a snooty film critic! ;)

Congrats on your first TV spot, FBS!
Hahahahha. Yeah I look quite pompous there. No idea what I was doing.

I just had the most hellish commute. My commute is normally ~1 hour and I take one train. Tonight it took me 3 hours, and I had to take five trains and a bus.

I just read that CGC is in Florida and their office is undamaged.  Seems of interest to some folks here.

That was really cool and so true. I struggle with this kind of stuff every day, a man walking up trying to take over what I am doing, ect. Or looking around for another man to help them when I am right there. We have an IATSE local here and I have always figured if I ever did get laid off, I might take a resume there and try to get in as I have a few friends in this local.

Just watched the video and this is eye opening in the sense that San Francisco is such a big city. You would think that they'd be more open about it. I've never worked on the West Coast in theatre, so this video is very informative. I began working in 2005 in New York City. I worked in film, as an office production assistant, and I tried working as a set production assistant, I've worked as a sound operator, lighting operator, electrician in theatre and yes, Women are outnumbered, although it is changing. I had the fortunate opportunity to work at The Public as an electrician. There were always about 3-4 of us (and about 5-6 other guys) on any shift I worked on. One of the amazing things was the assistant lighting tech for The Public as a whole, was a woman (and of course the head was a man.)

I still remember the one time we had to carry mult down the stairs in a rolling bin. I came to help lift it and we all joked at how heavy the stupid thing was and how stupid that the theatre didn't have proper loading area. We carried all the lights, cables, hardware through the front door of some Off-/Off-Broadway theatre in Manhattan. None of the males at the time said to me that I shouldn't help carry it because I was weaker. All in all, I had a really great time working with the guys, but then again, the guys I worked with were younger and closer to my age at the time (25-35?). The only time I had issues, was with a theatre on the Upper East Side, and that was with the people who owned the theatre, not my employer.

But have I ever been passed over for a position? Absolutely, though more often than not, it's because I'm an outsider. I only learned about lighting and sound during college. I tried to participate as much as I could in theatre when I was in high school, but I was attending high school in Beijing, China. We didn't get a real theatre until after I had graduated. I had a really difficult time understanding that as a "free-lancer", I really had to chase after that gig. I have confidence issues and that really made it hard for me to be competitive. Plus, I only worked non-union. Sorry for the long response and a little bit of a rant.
