Title: badge Resale lottery! 2013
Post by: alyssa on June 10, 2013, 11:05:22 AM
Comic-Con International is pleased to announce that because of returned/cancelled badges we will once again be able to offer those badges for resale. This year we have also reduced the allotment of reserved badges for certain departments. Comic-Con has decided to add these badges to the resale for our attendees. We currently have several thousand single day badges available for resale, only 3,100 of which are Saturday badges. 4-Day badges are sold out.

Due to the very limited number of badges available and our vendor EPIC Registration being focused on coordinating onsite registration, the Comic-Con 2013 badge resale will be conducted utilizing a random drawing.

To enter the Comic-Con 2013 Resale Drawing, login to your Member ID account now and click the blue notice that says “Click Here to Enter a Drawing to be Eligible for the Comic-Con 2013 Badge Resale!”

The drawing entry period will remain open for 48 hours only, and will close June 12, 2013 at 10:59:59 AM Pacific Daylight Time (PDT). Late entries will not be accepted.

You must have a valid and confirmed Comic-Con Member ID to enter the drawing.
Anyone who has already registered for or purchased a 4-Day badge (with or without Preview Night) or a single day Saturday badge will not be eligible to enter the drawing.

Those selected to participate in the Comic-Con 2013 badge resale may purchase their own badges, as well as badges for one additional guest. You may purchase for any guest who has a confirmed Member ID (as of June 7, 2013) and does not have a 4-Day badge (with or without Preview Night) or a single day Saturday badge. Your guest does not need to be selected from the drawing pool to be eligible to purchase.

Comic-Con will notify everyone who is selected to participate by email on or before June 17, 2013.

i got this at 2.08pm edt on 6.10.13 via email

Better that situation than that we're all clueless! ;)

Given the rush that is likely to accompany the resale, the drawing seems to be a fair way to distribute badge sales. But the unfortunately thing is that now people who have 4 day badges can't help others. I had promised 3 other people I would help them get badges during the resale, but now I'm not eligible to apply for the drawing.

You folks are too fast!

What a change-up!  Going with a lottery!  So I guess that if someone already has a Sat badge or a 4 day badge, they cannot enter to win for others.  So much for pooling efforts.

I agree that I feel that this is the only way to handle the rush without having the site break again.

Also getting a '404 Not found' message when trying to enter my brother. I'm sure that email had tons of people trying to sign up instantly even though there's a 48 hour period to sign up. It will be interesting to see how this kind of sale goes. Now the only ones who can help each other are the people who only need one badge and can use the second spot for someone else. I'm only trying for my brother's badge so if I get chosen I'll have an extra spot.

Got in and registered him. Now I'm wondering if you have a better chance when you just choose one or two days instead of trying for all four. Good luck to everyone! At least we'll all know our fate for better or worse in one week!

There may be a workaround for ppl with 4 day badges to help others. My husband for example has a member ID but is not attending. If he enters the lottery, I wonder if he (I) could purchase for others without purchasing one for him...

Do you think CCI would allow this? Thoughts?

Haven't paid close attention to this since I was lucky enough to get tickets.  Will they be selecting lottery winners in waves?  I'm assuming after they send out the first wave of winners they have to wait to see how many tickets are actually purchased (0, 1 or 2 per person selected).  There could still then be some left over and another wave of winners are announced and so forth until all are sold.  Can't think of how else they would do this.  Any other thoughts?

Maybe I'm just paranoid but I wouldn't want to risk anything that would get me in trouble for future Cons.

Recieved the message also. I am SOOOO GLADDDD that I was able to get my badge in the Priority Sale. Whew... I like to gamble, but the odds might be close to winning the lottery... the real lottery... 100,000 to 1???

Bsides the obvious, I wonder how they will offer the winners of this lotery? Will they just send a link and buy what you want, or will it be a free for all for just the winning people? What happens when Saturday badges are gone? Will they continue to offer the other days? Will there only be 3100 winners?

Lots of questions...

The way the email is worded and what people are saying above about having to select days, I'm guessing that they will allocate set badges for people and then notify them. Also, it says in the email that *your guest* does not have to be in the drawing pool to participate. That strongly implies that the purchaser does.

I would say no. The priorty sale people recieved a link to buy a badge and only our member ID could open the page and then the 1st badge had to be purchased for that person. The second badge was whoever.

Ill be trying to get a badge for a friend of mine. I'll only need the one badge, so if another person just needs one badge, we can team up to improve our chances by 50%! Lottery pool style.

Just send me a PM by tonight.

Update: Teamed up with someone already.

Wow!!!  Just read the e-mail from Comic-Con!  So much for trying to help out since I will not be eligible for the Lottery!  :(

So relieved I was able to get me and my daughter badges from the Priority sale!  I hate Lottery type sales...never good to me!

A big heartfelt Good Luck to all those trying to get those badges!   I hope it all works out for you.

I'm hoping this isn't a sign of things to come in the future...and as conventiongeek states...so many questions!

How many thousands of entries do you think they have so far? :) I'm staying positive-things worked out well for two of my group thanks to the priority sale and now that we've entered our third person in this sale, there's nothing we can do but wait and hope this turns out in our favor too!

Really? Wow! I was actually scheduled to help someone from Australia get a Saturday badge. She already has the other 3 days and is flying in. That seems a bit discriminatory. I wonder what the reasoning is?

I know lottery/raffles laws/rules are crazy. Most don't care to look them up but when I did a raffle on a personal blog years ago someone pointed out local rules.

My problem is I receive something like this: "We’re sorry, but you are not eligible to participate in the Comic‑Con 2013 badge resale. The Comic-Con International Resale Drawing (“Drawing”) is open to legal residents of the United States and Canada, age 13 or older at the time of entry, that have been assigned a Comic-Con Member ID as of 05:30:00 PM PDT on 06/07/13, and that have not already registered for or purchased a 4-Day badge (with or without Preview Night) or a single day Saturday badge (“Eligible Members”)"which means that my friends here in Brazil can't participate in this process, and they really need some badge...
What to do now??? =/

Okay, that's something I hadn't considered. I was presuming that maybe CCI felt that international people buying this close to the Con were too limited with time to make travel arrangements. But the legality thing makes sense.

If it is the legality thing, then I can see that preventing lotteries next year for the presale and general badge sale.

I am against a lottery in general for CCI badges, but considering how few there are remaining, I'd say that a person has just about as much luck, maybe even better luck, in scoring one.

So, good luck to those trying.

Just posted on CCI's Facebook page:

Due to the very limited number of badges available and our vendor EPIC Registration being focused on coordinating onsite registration, the Comic-Con 2013 badge resale will be conducted utilizing a random drawing.

Because rules vary from country to country as to how random drawings can be conducted, it was impossible for the company in charge of this drawing to be able to research each country's specific drawing rules and implement those rules in a timely manner before Comic-Con 2013.

It is for this reason that the resale is open to legal residents of the United States and Canada only.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

I just saw that craigslist has exhibitors badges for sale, 4 days plus preview. That also means you get in early and stay late. This person is really DUMB. If they get caught, they will be kicked out of con. Their booth...POOF...history. Besides that, if the persons purchasing the tickets can't get their badge scanned to win anything and if they screw up, it's a black mark on the booth and another chance for them to get kicked out.

This is terrible for international attendees who are trying to go through the badge resale, but it is also a bit of a 'sigh of relief' in the long term. If this is the reason for not having a lottery now, it means they likely will not have a lottery for badge presale or general sale, which would be a terrifying prospect!

Not necessarily. They said that they didn't have time to research it.  Maybe that's just an excuse or passing along the blame to international law. Either way, I hope they don't go to a lottery for the general sale or the early bird sale--I much prefer to leave fate in my own hands and not chance it entirely.

Right there with you!  I have a 4 Day Badge with Preview but my Fiance got shut out.  I can't help him in the lottery and I can't help anyone else in the pass sale help group, and out of all our friends based their badge status, none of them can enter the badge lottery to help him out either because they either have a 4 day or a Saturday badge.  I wonder how many people are entering the lottery thinking that first come means first served.  Probably crashing the system.

Oops, "on or around June 13th". My brain skipped the "or around" part.

It's from the official rules :)

On or around 06/13/13, an independent judging organization appointed by Sponsor will select, in a random drawing from among all eligible Entries received during the Entry Period, ten thousand (10,000) Eligible Members to be eligible to participate in a Comic Con International 2013 badge resale opportunity (“Resale Participants”) to be held at a time and date to be determined by Sponsor (“Resale Opportunity”).

'On or around' implies that they're just covering their behinds in case it doesn't happen exactly on June 13.

'Badge resale opportunity' sounds like it will actually be a SALE and not 'reserving badges for people that they can login to buy', like it was for the priority people.

I'm confused.  So they are going to select 10,000 that are eligible and from that select the winners?  If that's right, I'm curious as to why they are doing it in two steps as opposed to just selecting the winners.

Can someone please give me the "captain dummy talk" version?  :)

I do hope that this NOT the future for Comic Con sales. The current system is still flawed and in a way it is still like a lottery with the "internet gods" controlling your computer's connection.

CCI needs to go back to soft openings to avoid the massive stampede that always overloads the servers as proven in the past sales. I am a supporter of a limited onsite pre-reg like it was done a few years ago limited to 10,000 badges total. This would give a more options to purchase a badge.

Yeah, this only went out of control when they started 'announcing' the time when badges would go on sale, and the reason why they did that was because people were complaining that they didn't know that badges were on sale because they didn't bother to check CCI's website until February or so of that year, when badges would have been gone at that point.  I remember the 4 day badges taking 3 weeks to sell out in 2009, and single days took a few more months after that.

I will second this request, this all seems very convoluted and unnecessary.

On the upside, in the wake of this news people are ditching their hotels (maybe?). I see a few Gaslamp hotels open on the website.

i think what most of us need to remember is that the on line pre reg sale went well with no crashes.  there is no reason to think that will change, imnsho.
the general sale may undergo some server upgrades/unannounced sale times/etc all

Back in '11 though it was mad chaos. If you weren't in line by like, 5AM to get your ticket, you weren't going to get one. And people who WERE in line by 5AM were still standing there until about 11AM. That's part of why they moved it away from onsite pre-reg. I actually loved that they did the special online registration this year only for people who'd already attended.

Yahoo! I have registered to enter. Hoping to be lucky enough to get in and maybe buy 3 single day Thursday-Saturday tickets :). Not too sad about no 4 day passes, as I didn't even go last Sunday. Just straight to the airport that day.

Since it closes for entry on June 12, and it says on or around June 13 they will start drawing, how likely is it that they will draw June 12? I only ask because I'm having surgery that day and I won't be able to purchase on the 12th

unlikely since i believe it said all notices will have been made by the 17th so the sale would presumably be after then?

have your mom buy. just make sure she has your exact info. if your ID gets selected, she needs to submit your info first. if hers gets selected, she enters hers and then yours...

Was that your experience? I am guessing on one of the more popular days? DH got in line after 6:30 am on Sunday & was done by 9:00am. Just curious if it was as bad as we heard on the other days. We just figured it was easier for us because it was Sunday.

We got in line about 3:30 am on Friday and easily scored Preview Night badges. We finished by 8:30 am, in plenty of time to get back to our hotel, change into our cosplay and go to the Con. The only thing we missed out on was getting into Ballroom 20 that day, but we made our 'backup' panel which was still awesome!

I gotta say - I hate the lottery idea. I want to control my comic con fate. Not leave it up to chance.

Well, this late in the game with so few badges available, your chances are already limited. This at least evens the field?

I guess I'm one of the few that don't mind the online reg esp. the priority one for previous attendees. I don't really like having to get up super early and waste hours to buy next year's badge when I could be enjoying that year's Con instead.

Yes.  Yes it does.  But International in the name does not really mean much outside of marketing purposes (oh look! They are worldly!).  They don't have offices in other countries.  They don't run events in any other country (heck, they don't even run events outside California!)  They aren't funded by any international organization or individual.  I understand it sucks for you and others but this whole thing was gonna suck one way or another for a lot of people.

With that said, I like coming to this forum.  The conversation has been much more subdued and reasonable compared with Comic Con's facebook page (and I haven't even tried to go on twitter yet).  Holy cow, there are some really terrible comments coming out of there.

Those that go (or try to go) to SDCC are very passionate people.  After the calamity of the general sale, most have been stalking Facebook for months, waiting for the resale, and were even teased with details of a resale just a few weeks ago, only to now be told they cannot participate while others are still able to hold out hope.  I have preview night badges, but I still sympathise with them. They have every right to be angry.

I got in line Wednesday after PN (about 10:30) and easily snagged 4-day+PN and had to wait for the Con to open Thursday.
Unfortunately, the people who, in my opinion, got in line late and had to wait for a few hours (when they could have been at the Con) were the ones who voiced their "concern" at the feedback that year so CCI changed their policy for on-site pre-registration.  From my perspective, the on-line registration has created chaos, not on-site pre-registration.
People camp out for everything now for CC.  If you want a good seat for Hall H or BR20 you have to camp out.  In my mind, why not camp out, secure ones tickets for next year and be done with it.

Yes, I agree with you.  Prior to today's announcement I had hoped to participate in the resale to help out those in need on this forum, but now I don't qualify.  I don't know how many here DO qualify that can help our international friends.

I don't want to quote "Americans being self-serving"...but as someone coming from overseas, I really do question the idea of a lottery that's only open to...funnily enough, the country hosting the con.

What would make it much better is if you could register a US Member ID for the lottery, THEN, if picked, you could enter WHATEVER member ID's you wanted. E.g, one of yours, or 2 of someone else

it's not because of Epic's inadequacies it's because there are too many different countries & their respective lottery laws. I gather it's impossible to do a world wide lottery due to all the different laws.

i also gather cci doesn't want to have the same DOS problems like last badge sale.  so the only option is to limit the sale to a small group of randomly selected folks.  I don't see how else they could have designed the sale.

it isn't fair but i don't see how it could have been done any other way.

Not attacking you, but I disagree. It isn't fair to everyone (understandable, maybe, but not completely fair). It's easy to say it's fair when you are on the better side. However, I do agree that it isn't the end of the world if you don't get one. (Will try to remember this if it happens to me!)
I also hear what Alyssa is saying-I don't know how else it could be done.

That doesn't make it any more fair.

Here's the worst case scenario for me.  I'll be picked to purchase badges on Monday June 17 and will be told it will be on the following Thursday at 9am.  That would be the worst time for me as I have to step out then.  If they pick 8am, then hopefully I can make a successful badge purchase in less than an hour.

Being that I didn't have good luck at last year's online pre-reg, I'm pretty open to doing on-site badge reg, except I don't know if I will like camping out the night before.

I think *technically* TP is not a lottery. It is an allocation based on speed of submission (just like the usual badge sales).

My only thought is that IF you are eligible, you would need/want a Saturday badge yourself.

I may just look at tweaking the thread in the Pass Sale 2013 section and list everyone who needs a badge AND is eligible so that everyone in there knows who they can try to help. The more folks we have participating, the better the odds of getting one of the spots to purchase for yourself and to help another person.

Just registered in hopes of helping my last friend pair up for the resale lottery. She has a Member ID and is eligible for this lottery.

She prefers Friday or Saturday, but at this point, she can't really be picky ^^.

Hopefully someone else is in a similar situation and we can double up to increase our chances.

Thanks!

If any forum members only need one badge and are willing to help one of our international friends, we can start a list.

Completely optional to help and the admins won't ask you to give preference to anyone over anyone else.

Let me know if there is interest and we can compile a list over the next 1-2 days before it closes.

For the time being, sign up here:

Only put your name in if you have an open spot to help someone or if you're international. Work in progress so if you have any suggestions, I'm all ears.

I believe that, like with the priority resale, only those 10,000 Member IDs will be able to log in and purchase resale badges.  The 10,000 will be the "lottery winners" but that doesn't mean they will get the days that they want since only the first 3,100 who want Saturday badges will be able to buy one.

I wish I hadn't checked with CC's Facebook page.  I'm reading so many sad stories of people overseas who booked flights and hotel reservations and have all just found out they are no longer eligible to purchase badges.  It's kind of giving me survivor's guilt, just like the time in December 2010 when both Orange County (where I live) and the Inland Empire in Southern California were hit with violent winter rainstorms that led to homes being flooded and inundated with mud slides.  Nothing happened to my home but I felt so terrible for those who weren't as lucky.  I feel the same way for those who have been locked out of the lottery.

I agree it sucks for those from other countries but take a look at the different SDCC related contests. Notice how most, if not all, are US/Canada and sometimes Mexico. That's because of all the different laws/rules/taxes/regulations that these companies have to deal with. Hell, some are only open to certain states.

I believe that, like with the priority resale, only those 10,000 Member IDs will be able to log in and purchase resale badges.  The 10,000 will be the "lottery winners" but that doesn't mean they will get the days that they want since only the first 3,100 who want Saturday badges will be able to buy one.

Make that the first 1,550, since each person who gets in can buy 2.

To me the fairness issue is 'much ado about nothing' really- this 'resale' is like the 3rd or 4th opportunity to buy badges already (depending on if you count the screen shot shenanigans an actual opportunity) so at this point if you haven't secured a badge by now chances are you shouldn't be making travel plans on July 17th.  Factoring in airfare and accommodations and credentials to get in and out of the US-  coming from overseas you probably need at least a few months to plan accordingly.  Comic-con is only 5 weeks out.  'Nuff said about outside of US people.

I think they should change the name from "Comic Con Internationa: San Diego" to Comic Con US San Diego.

Sorry, but the "International" is just advertasing. just branding.

The badge sale process start too late for international travelers to plan their trip. Sure, there are several local flights to San Diego from US, but there aren't as many international flight availables. Since July is one of the months that US receive lots os visitors, by the time you actually got yourself a badge (even in the first sale) you would be able to get your fligh ticket.

Also the badge sale is based on a online queue from a US server. The chances that someone outside US get their badge is way lower than the chances of someone accessing from US because of the lag and server response. Some people use to say that is impossible to play online against US users because of the lag. And I’m talking about dedicated game servers. Imagine what happens with sale servers?

I know that several people from outside US got their badge, but this is just 'Great numbers Probability theory'. If several thousand people try to acess, some will be able to get their tickets. But the number of US badges is way bigger than international badges.

OK, after that, if you didn’t get your ticket and decide to go for the resale, if became worse. Even if you do get the badge, you have to start planning your trip just one month earlier. Try to get international tickets to US in just one month in advance. Yeah, you can find them.... like US$ 1,000 each.

You can also decide to purchase the tickets without having the badge yet but you will risk paying cancelation fees.

Lastly, now the badge resale is open only to US members ID. I know that you can get thicket for an international guest, but what are the odds? First you have to know someone that was selected in the drawing, and second he/she must be willing to give you the guest badge. Really, how many people, here, will offer their additional guest badge for someone outside US? Again, I know there will be some people willing to do that, but only few.

Can imagine more than 500 badges for people outside US in this 're-sale".

Comic Con can do as they pleases when selling their badges, but they should stop calling it 'international".

Hmm, I was trying to clarify that only the first 3,100 Member IDs who want Saturday badges would get one as not everyone necessarily wants Saturday. Also, I don't know how the priority resale was set up but you had to buy for each Member ID separately (i.e. after completed your first purchase there was a button that asked if you wanted to buy another one and if you hit that button you started back with the screen that asked for the Member ID of the person you're buying for) so I know a handful of people who did not get the same kind of badge for all of the people that they were trying to buy passes for (e.g. during pre-reg sale, the last Member ID entered did not end up with Preview Night) so I don't think it's the first 1550 unless you buy both at the same time?

I agree with others that it is a dick move by Comic Con to pull the rug from under international people last second and believe me, I think people should be upset and disappointed (I know I would be if one day, I could not go to Comic Con).  But the stuff coming out of people's mouths (or typed from their mouths) on FB and Twitter is appalling.  Again, vent at being upset/disappointed/sad but nonsense should be called out.

Comic Con is not racist.
While it is unfortunate that you have spent thousands on airfare and hotel, its not Comic Con's responsibility to give you tickets to justify the costs.
"Comic Con is not about comics anymore!" is a cliched statement that was never true to begin with.

On and on.  If there is a country that would have beef, it would be Mexico seeing as they are 30-45 minutes away from the center.  I have met people who take short weekend drives to come up and have a great time.  Which is what Comic Con is all about.  People coming together for a love of geek culture and having great times in a great place.

I am curious as to how this lottery thing goes.  My feeling is this could be the norm for the general sale to alleviate demand on the servers.  If the international issue crops up again, I could see Comic Con having a separate sale just for them.  Plus it is possible they may eliminate the "veteran" pre-sale to allow more tickets to be made available for general.  I don't envy the person in charge of ticketing and distribution, they will be shat upon regardless of what they choose until the convention center expands.

People are mad, and it will take sometime to process the fact that they spend several thousand dollars and won't be able to go to the con. Again, Comic con is NOT international friendly. If they were they should start the badge sale in December or earlier. I mean, if they already have a pre-sale on august, why not make the full sale on December?

I can understand why Mexico and other countries were left out. Whenever you say drawing you turn it in something with legal value and legal responsabilities. They don't have jurisdiction in other countries, so they can only include US and Canada in the drawing.

So this is an additional reason why Drawing is a terrible option.

I just think that the main issue with Comic Con badge sale is that is not 'fair'. I know several people that had blank screen problems, that sent the printscreen but didn't get included in the priority resale. Why? Because they send the printscreen three of four days after the sale. If you look and Comic Con instructions, there is no time limit to sent the screenshots? So why these people were left out of the priority resale?

Comic Con doesn't look to 'be fair'. They take the easiest way. They decided that there were enough screenshots and simply decided that they wouldn't be accepting more e-mails. They decided the drawing would be easier so they left every international user out of the resale. They aren't really trying to work the best for everyone. They are trying to solve the issues of some, but not for everyone.

But those people who already spent "several thousand dollars" were never promised a badge so they made those decisions based on a gamble and, unfortunately, they lost. And how in the world would it be possible for CCI to please "everyone" when the demand so severely outnumbers the supply???

It's understandable that people are mad and disappointed but, unfortunately, most of them would have been mad and disappointed no matter what since there simply aren't enough badges to go around.  I agree with Vapors that there is simply no good choice on how to handle the situation but I sincerely hope that CCI does not decide to go the lottery route for the regular sales in future years.

So I think I understand this right, but can someone clarify before I can offer up some help?

I have my 4 day badges for me and my daughter; however, my husband has a Member ID from a previous year's attendance.  If I add him to the drawing pool and he gets selected, I would have to buy badges first in his name, correct? I couldn't just use his member ID to purchase badges for 2 people who needed them?

In essence, I don't think I can help because I would have to buy him a pass first and he's not going but I wanted to make sure...

So let's say your hubby has registered but didn't get a badge, you could technically get his badge and then another badge, correct, EVEN if your husband doesn't go. OH, my logic is going to suck.....my thought would be that if someone REALLY wanted to go, they could absorb the cost of the other badge and still go. BUT...that would mean paying double the price AND leaving a badge unused that someone else could have purchased. I can see this happening though. Don't you? It would work for the people out of the country, yes no?

You're right, that does happen, where people are buying the first badge and then by the time they get to their second badge the badge type they wanted is now gone. But my point was simply that if you're not one of the first 1,500-1,600 people in, chances are you aren't getting a Saturday badge.

Regarding the discussion of international attendees, I agree that it's terrible that they are being excluded from the resale lottery. However anyone who bought airfare and paid for non-refundable hotel without having a badge in hand should have had a backup plan. In other words, we all know that demand for badges is massive, therefore we should all know that badges are not guaranteed, and if someone chooses to gamble and pay for non-refundable travel arrangements in advance, no matter where their residence is located in the world, they need to be willing to live with those arrangements even if a badge does not come through. Counting solely on the resale to get a badge is foolhardy, although I can understand why international people were hoping to be successful in the resale.

Also, who knows how CCI keeps track of these things? Will they record that your husband had a badge and didn't pick it up? Will that go in a file somewhere? Will it be a black mark on his record and a potential step toward banning, if it is interpreted as trying to 'game' the system? IMHO it's not worth the risk.

You are right about not making travel plans if you don't have badges at this late date, but some were looking to buy additional days. But, in that case, I guess at least they have something, which is more than many, many people.
Sooo...I don't have a point. I think my brain shut down when I saw "Comic-con is only 5 weeks out"! Yay!!! I need to wander off to the thread about packing so I can get inspired.
I guess instead of saying it isn't fair, I should say it is a bummer for them. I think we can all agree on that term! :)

Sure! I understand. They knew they were taking some risk, but they are mad anyway. In few days they will understand that they are responsible for their own decisions. But I think that if they had somekind of chance to get in the Comic Con Resale they wouldn't be so angry. They are mad because Comic con didn't let they try (this is the way they see it. I don't agree with that)

I know it would suck to have everything but the badges if you're international, but personally I'd still attend. With NerdHQ, the parties and all the other off-site events, you can still get your nerd on. Or cut it short and head to Vegas or LA.

I think we are to focused on the international members that had brought tickets and hotels and I don't think everyone had. I think some did brought tickets and some didn't. People are actually mad because Comic Con won't allow them to try to get their tickets. If you had a fair chance and lost, it would be eay easier to accept that you wouldn't be able to go to Comic Con.

Is like the first sale. People that weren't able to get in the queue line didn't get so mad. They knew that the tried. People that got in the queue line but had the blank screen problem were the ones that really got mad.

So I think that International people are complaining the same way all people, including US, complained when we had the first problems with blank screen at the first sale.

That is a fair point. I know there are plenty of international attendees who have some days' badges but need other days. My comment was not directed there. It was addressing the point of people being upset that they prepaid travel arrangements and then were not able to participate in the resale.

I agree, it would have been preferable for the international attendees to be able to participate in the resale. It is unfortunate that this is not possible.

With all due respect, that's just a silly statement that negates your entire argument.

I'd rather not pick apart everything you said. I'll just say that I fully believe that CCI makes every effort to be as fair as possible within the constraints that they have and at the end of the day, we'll have 150,000 happy people with badges and hundreds of thousands more unhappy folks who for whatever reason fair or not were unable to get badges.

Hope this follows protocol.

I think until Comic-Con can find a registration system that can handle the insane amount of demand during badge sales, there are always going to be unhappy cries of "It's not fair!"

Suppose the drawing was open to international folks. And suppose many of these folks were not selected in the drawing. All we would see on Facebook is "It's not fair! I bought my airline tickets already and I didn't even get selected. The lottery isn't fair!"

Now suppose that some of these international folks DID get selected from the drawing, but were not able to purchase a badge during the resale, all we would see on Facebook is "It's not fair!! I was selected for the resale but I still didn't get the badge I wanted. I have nonrefundable airfare, It's not fair!!"

And so on and so on and so on....

I think it sucks that international folks are shut-out this round (which make me think they can never use this system for a general sale) , but a resale was never even guaranteed in the first place. Anyone who bought nonrefundable hotels or airfare took a really serious gamble. Even if the resale was open to them, there was no promise they would get a ticket.

Don't get me wrong, I truly do feel bad for people who cannot participate (and as I read this back I see how cold I sound), I just think that no matter what Comic-Con did there would be a demographic that would yell "It's not fair!!"  :(

Hello there,

This is a brilliant idea, and very thoughtful of the people who are eligible for the lottery system. :D

I am from Austalia so I'm not able to register for the lottery but I would very much like to be added to the list for badges. I would happily take any single day badges that are available or all four if they are available. I'm not fussy I'd just really love to be able to attend.

Please feel free to contact me for additional information if need be.

Many thanks,

Agreed- CCI has consistently gone over and above for attendees.  I would go even further, i think it's virtually impossible to be completely 'fair' to everyone, given the today's technological differences.

Yeah, this is ALL I see on their FB and twitter. I feel like I got screwed over by their crappy system this year, but so did a lot of people, so I'm not going to gripe all day about it. I am hoping they might be able to get a better sale system in place in the future. At least put people in the waiting room immediately so they will wait and not refresh after sitting on the main page for 30 minutes.
But it has a lot to do with internet and processing speeds which are out of a lot of people's hands as well, so it's not fair to most of us either XD.

Wonder if anyone can help. I have a friend who wnats to enter into the badge lottery. However he for some reason is "opted out" of recieving emails and does not appear to be able to change it at this time. First, is he missing something on the member ID system where he could simply opt back in? Second, will it be a problem even though he has signed up for the lottery and is being advised he will receive an email notifing him if he won or not? Lastly, will someone be able to log into their member ID and see if they won?

Conventiongeek - My suggestions to him would be to go ahead and enter the lottery, and even though he won't get an email to see if he won or lost, my bet is he could just email Comic-Con after people start getting their notices and ask to see if he won?

As soon as people start getting notices, it's going to be all over FB.
Just curious, why did he opt-out?

I was able to log into my cousin's account and saw that he was eligible , so I would think I would be able to see if he won, I would email CCI and get the setting changed

Yeah. I think last time there was a sale people weren't allowed to make any Member ID changes.

That would make sense considering this is a drawing. I'm guessing that legally you can't enter a drawing with one set of contact info and then change your contact info after you've already entered. Otherwise Comic-Con would have quite a lot of international folks "suddenly" having  a change of address ;)

Truth. It kind of sucks for legit people, though. I've got a friend who only has a Thursday/Sunday badge, and she moved from Australia to Canada about a year ago. Since she made her member ID when she still lived in Australia, she wasn't eligible - even though she lives in Canada/has a Canadian driver's license now/etc.

(and she tried sending them a scan of her driver's license but they said no changes).

I saw someone saying they received an e-mail saying they weren't selected as well, so looks like everyone who signed up should receive an e-mail. Nice of them to not have people weren't selected wondering if maybe their email is just late/lost.

Good luck to everyone!

Well poot. Neither my hubby nor I got in the lotto for two Saturday ones, despite my attempts to dance, chant, pray, meditate, etc. If any two kind FoCCI folks are willing to help my hubby and I out for Saturday ones that DID get in, that would be appreciated. Even just one, for him, would work. It's his first one. I can get an attendant Saturday badge for my roommate who is handicapped.

Hey guys! First of all i'd like to thank all you guys for your help these last few weeks as i was browsing around reading everyone's post it helped me out a lot!!

I had a question about the resale. I got the email saying im eligble but was kinda confused about the following:
"After you enter the last name and Member ID of the eligible participant, you will be directed to the badge selection screen. Here you may purchase a badge for the eligible participant, OR, you may select to skip this purchase and register another guest. Your guest does not have to be a legal resident of the United States or Canada. Your guest does not need to be selected from the drawing pool to be eligible for purchase, however, they must have a Member ID and they cannot already have a 4-Day badge (with or without Preview Night) or a Saturday badge for Comic-Con 2013.

Once you complete your first purchase, you will have the option to purchase for one additional guest. You may purchase up to four single day badges per Member ID, while badge inventory is available. We cannot guarantee that the same badge types will be available for each guest you enter."

In the bold it says "I may purchase a badge for eligible participant guessing thats me or you may select to skip this purchase and register another guest.. I'm trying to buy a ticket for myself and my cousin for any days we can get (Sorry if i was able to buy for more people i would have loved to help anyone out!!) Just trying to figure out if i have to skip and register my cousins account then buy the badges or buy my badge then my cousins?

What it sounds like to me is that you can buy a badge for yourself AND your cousin OR you could buy a badge for your cousin and someone else (but not you). That's different from what we all heard (assumed?) before... that you would be forced to buy a badge for yourself.

I think it means you can purchase a ticket for you and a guest or for 2 other people.

Yeah that's also what i kind of thought too but i thought the whole fact of registering and being in the lottery was that you can only buy a ticket and buy one additional. Thought i'd come and post here to get everyone's input..

But assuming thats what it means guess i gotta buy my tickets first then buy my cousins right after

Here's the e-mail i got if anyone wanted to know what it said

Congratulations!

You have been selected to participate in the Comic-Con International badge resale! Please keep in mind that resale participation does not guarantee you a badge purchase.

On June 18, 2013, you will be sent an email with the link to EPIC Registration between the hours of 8:00 AM and 9:30 AM PDT.* The badge resale will begin at 10:00 AM PDT.  We strongly recommend that you add [email protected] to your email address book or safe sender list. Sharing the link in an online forum or any other social media application could potentially cause the registration system to not behave as expected.

After you receive your email from EPIC Registration, click the link to be redirected to the EPIC landing page and follow the instructions to enter the waiting room. When you have reached the front of the queue, you will be prompted to put in the last name and Member ID of the selected participant (eligible participant). Only those who are eligible to participate in the badge resale will be allowed to enter a registration session.

Your eligible participant Member ID is:

After you enter the last name and Member ID of the eligible participant, you will be directed to the badge selection screen.

We cannot guarantee that the same badge types will be available for each guest you enter.

Please keep in mind that badges purchased during this resale are nonrefundable. We are no longer taking any refund requests.

We strongly suggest that you keep this email for reference, as information regarding the resale will not be posted on our website. For questions about pricing, child registration, and general badge inquiries, please visit: http://www.comic-con.org/cci/2013-badge-purchase

Thank you for your continued support of Comic-Con International!

Sincerely,

Comic-Con International

Looks like it forces you to enter your Member ID and Last Name of whoever got selected whether or not you buy a badge or skip and register the 2nd person so would assume there are measures in place to lock people out (even if they can access the link they aren't eligible to bypass the first screen).

On the updated CCI badge resale page here:

it states that you "Those selected to participate in the Comic-Con 23 badge resale may purchase their own badges, as well as badges for one additional guest" so I don't think lottery winners can buy badges for two guests...

I missed the pre-sale last year because I was attending a friend's 30th birthday with no Internet connection and didn't even get into the waiting room during the regular sale. Here's hoping!

If you've got an extra space for a guest, we've got several international members who were shut out of the lottery who'd love your help.

I have an odd question...

Will international users be able to click the link to enter the waiting room?  Or will users need to be in the US and Canada?  I ask because I will be using the Guest purchase to buy for an international visitor and she has offered to try to click in from her computer (maximize our chances of actually getting tickets!)...

I personally don't see Epic/SDCC going to that much trouble. International users just couldn't participate in the lottery for legal reasons - lottery is over and they have safeguards in check (making eligible members sign in), so no reason to block foreign IP's.

Plus, what if US Citizen X is on vacation in the Bahamas trying to buy? That opens up a whole other can of worms that they're not going to be interested in dealing with. So I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Hey everyone. :) I'm a Northern Californian resident who registered for the lottery and did not get in. This is the first year that I haven't been able to obtain a pass, and I'm the only one of my group of friends who wasn't able to get a pass.

Would anyone be willing to take me on as one of their badge purchases if they get in? All four days are preferable, but naturally, I'm not picky. Of course, I would pay you in full upon purchase.

Apologies if this is the wrong place for this.

My fiance did not get in to the lottery unfortunately.  For anyone who was lucky to get in to the lottery resale that can buy for another person - would you be willing to help my fiance out?  He needs all 4 days (whatever is available) and I will be available on the resale day to pay for the badges and complete the transaction with you.  I have a 4 day preview night already, just looking to get him in...will do just about anything at this point....please PM me if you can help, thanks in advance!

So I made the lottery. Apparently I can buy a ticket for me, and a guest.  Does the guest need to have a member ID also?  If the guest also has to have a member ID, and they are not issuing any more Member ID's how do I get this person in?

I had 2 friends both denied. I wonder how they chose the winners? Computer Random?

i gotta assume computer random since they researched the international rules.

I got a reply from CCI in regards to that matter i asked yesterday looks like if you made the lottery you can buy for two others and not yourself.

Hi Romeo,

Thank you for your email.  When you enter the badge purchasing system, please enter the Member ID of the individual who was selected to be eligible to participate in the resale.  Once you have completed that individual's badge purchase, you will be able to purchase for a second person.

The option stated below is meant for those who were selected to be eligible, but would rather purchase for two other individuals, instead of themselves plus one guest.

Please feel free to email us back if the information above is unclear, or if you have any additional questions.

Thank you,

Yes, if they do not have a member ID already they are not eligible to attend comic con this year UNLESS the member ID system opens back up before Tuesday (which seems unlikely).

I have 2 open slots for the resale line next week. I don't read these forums a lot, so its best to contact me through facebook.

Pm me your name and facebook link and I'll get back to you the days before the resale. Ild much rather contact through there since Ill be doing stuff in real time when i get in the wait line. Too much delay for something like that on these forums

Would prefer someone who only needs one pass so I can accommodate two people.

I have to choose who to pick out of everyone too so maybe a reason why you need one would help me decide? Going alone, already booked flight, etc. Going with another friend and we would welcome a guest too.

I would very much like a badge for any day(s) for myself as I was unsuccessful in the general sale and lottery. If anyone would be so kind as to be willing to use their guest spot for me, I would be greatly appreciative.
I of course won't be offering additional compensation, as it's against CCI rules, beyond an enormous amount of gratitude.

If anyone would be willing to help me out, please feel free to PM me. If nobody here has an available guest spot, I understand.

Thanks very much for your consideration.

I have my badge, so good luck people... there sure are alot of people on here that still need a badge. I hate to say it, but at this point, if you have any days already, you should probably just thank your stars and not ask for someone to waste their open spot on a single day badge, such as Saturday only. It seems that it might be better used for an active forum member (not the 1 post people) who have nothing and would like multiple days if possible.
Someone should help out Andrew...  he should be first on anyone's list.

Hi

I realise that I have left this really late, but I am coming to the US from Australia in July and attending at least one day of SDCC during this time would be great. So if someone can get an extra day ticket (any day) let me know and I would be extremely grateful.

I am planning on coming to San Diego during the con regardless and have bought tickets to the Wil Wheaton W00tstock event, the Kevin Smith Hollywood Babble event and the live Nerdist podcast recording. I am considering attending Gam3rcon if I can't attend Comic Con. Does anyone know any other fun events happening either during the days of the con or at night? I am in town from 17-21 July.

After San Diego I am going to Vegas for about a week so if anyone wants to meet up during my time in San Diego and wants to do a post con trip to Las Vegas maybe we can work something out.

Hi everyone,

Been busy over the last few days as I have just flown into the US.

When I got the 'lottery is only open to US and Canada residents', I messaged CCI again.  A helpful reply asked for his details and said they'd try to locate the correspondence that my boyfriend had sent in previously. However, a second reply was pretty blunt, said that there was nothing from his email address, and they didn't respond about why his inquiry via the member log in was also not responded to.  We tried our luck in the lottery with a friend's Member ID but it wasn't chosen :(

Would be awesome if someone is able to get me a ticket for Thursday or any number of single days!
Title: Re: badge Resale lottery!

The no-international thing bites, but IMO it doesn't really subtract from what little "International" element is already there.

There's what, 10,000 or less passes that citizens outside the US or Canada can't try for.  That means that 120,000 passes were available to international citizens.  And at least, or close to half (in my estimation, judging by the cities on the badges I've seen last year) are from SoCal.

I don't think CCI should be blamed for every country's lottery rules.

No matter which way you slice it, there's no way to be fair when there are 130,000 passes and multiple times that number of people wanting to get in.

Wait a sec, just for the sake of argument here, exactly how would a selected person go about buying a badge for two other people?

From the lottery email:

"Your eligible participant Member ID is:!@#$%%^

After you enter the last name and Member ID of the eligible participant, you will be directed to the badge selection screen.

So if someone is gracious enough to get you a badge, then all they need to do is stand in line and help you buy exclusives? I do not see the incentive here for someone to help you. Should it not be the other way around?

1) It is VERY unlikely at this point that anyone will have a spare spot left. You can ask but please don't bug others with PMs unless they specifically ask you to.

2) It is even LESS likely that they will use the spot on a new forum member with 1 or 2 posts that are limited to requests for badges when there are other forum members who have been around for a year and still can't get badges. For me personally, I consider some of the forum regulars "friends" and would feel pretty comfortable helping them get badges if the need arised. Forum reputation does come into play.

3) IF you have at least 1 individual day already, consider yourself lucky and ENJOY your time at SDCC. It's still a blast. I've done the 1 day thing before. You'll wear yourself out.

4) Whether you have days or not, there are a ton of off site events that do not require badges but will provide a very similar experience with panels and autographs, etc. Locals, people in the area on vacation or even people with nonrefundable travel arrangements - make the most of your time here!

5) Start planning for 2014! Double check your Member ID when it re-opens to make sure you get notifications. Look into all the different ways you can attend from the badge sales to volunteering to contests. Build friendships with other forum members. Just because you're not going doesn't mean you can't participate in the forum - there are a TON of topics covering everything here.

Good luck to all!

I'm just going to throw this out there and hope and pray that someone is generous (and more lucky than we were). We have a big group going to con this year. Four in our group still need extra days purchased (one needs Saturday, two need Friday and Saturday both, and one needs Saturday/Sunday), and none of them got selected for the lotto. There's nothing that I personally can do to help, since I have all four days, except beg and see if someone has an extra badge-buying slot they may be willing to give us?

Withdrawing my request, the fates have smiled down on us!

I will just add that I agree 100% with everything Khan has posted here. And I will add that people who are posting in this thread without reading it (i.e. not even Khan's excellent post here) are being ignorant. This site is not a badge giveaway.

Personally, while I am not able to assist with the lottery, if I were, I would make it top priority to help regular forum members who have been around for some time and didn't just show up in the last couple of days looking for badges. This site is a community of friends, not a giveaway.

Sorry... Rant over.

I know. He's all like, "If I take summer school, I can graduate and I won't have to take any classes in the fall." And I'm like, "we're through!!"

I mean...he's just sooooo unreasonable!  :P

I can get what he's saying, but if it were my boyfriend he'd have to promise me a lot to make up for it. Like accompanying me to every other Comic Con for the rest of our relationship.

That being said, my husband went to SDCC with me (for 2 days) in 2008, then skipped 2009-2011 because he couldn't get time off of work. He went again last year (for all 4 days) and is coming again this year. I think I converted him... :D

I believe it's been mentioned in some way before, but at the risk of coming off as somewhat rude I feel it be stated again.

If you're posting asking for someone to use their guest spot to get you a Saturday badge, you're likely wasting your time and that of the person dedicating that spot to you.
With only 3,100(more or less) Saturday badges and 10,000 drawing winners, the Saturday badges will more than likely be completely gone by the time the drawing winner makes it to the screen to purchase for the second person.

Sorry to be blunt, but anyone expecting to get a Saturday badge through a guest slot is most probably going to end up sorely disappointed.

tay, if someone has an open guest slot in the lottery, it is *still* highly unlikely that they'll be able to get even one saturday badge.  think of it, there's 10 thousand people logging on and each of them is most likely buying 2 sets of badges, that's 20,000 people trying for those 3,100 badges.

So glad I was able to get a 4-day badge on the priority invite resale. Probably wouldn't have been able to go this year if not for that special resale. I didn't find out last year until it was too late about how hard it was to get a badge as I had signed up after their main sale and couldn't get internet access on the resale last year.

First let me say I feel like a total wanker for signing up to ask the same a lot of others signed up for,but after days posting on CC's page on FB and someone telling me about this site today,I just caved in and sigend up even though I said on CC's FB page that I wouldn't as I agree with someone's rant here about it,so I felt I didn't have the right to do so. But at this point I'm tryin' ANYthing. lol.

If anyone can get me a badge even for just ONE day. After attending Comic Con for 14 years I can't NOT go on my 15th anniversary, lol, and it is ONE of the main reasons I come over to the US every July.

So,that's the offer, and I have a few friends standing by to Paypal money for my badge. ONE day would be FANTASTIC! Two days would be BRILLIANT! And I don't care which days they are. lol.

Have fun!

There is 3,100 saturday badges and 10,000 people accepted to participate. That means that less than 1/3rd will get one saturday badge, and there is almost no chance of one person being able to get a saturday badge for both memberIDs.

I know its a slim shot, especially with the people to ticket ratio, but I'm going to put this out there for my friend who is traveling to San D, has tried every option for a badge, with no luck.

So anyone who made the resale, a guest badge of any day of any kind, I think she would be grateful. I know there are a lot of people requesting this but I'm willing to pay for the badge if anyone is able to get any day at all for her.  I can be reached via PM if anyone is able to do this and I'll pay for it immediately upon your purchase. Better for me to ask and try, then to not ask at all.

For those of you participating in the resale: Good luck and may the odds be forever in your favor.

Good luck to all the folks who are particpating in the sale in tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.  Hopefully you've all set alarm clocks?

As most of you will be trying to get badges for yourself and a friend, you might want to consider getting less days to better your chance of guaranteeing you both get badges for the same days instead of rushing to get Saturday and then you have Saturday but your friend has Sunday since there will be 10,000 people going after 3100 Saturday badges.

If you both get a less popular day (usually goes Saturday, Friday, Thursday, Sunday), you could look to getting NerdHQ or any other activities on the other days and enjoy the events together instead of being split up. Just something to think about.

Hope the process is smooth and quick for everyone!

Does anyone have any ideas about the wording near the bottom of the email sent out to confirm being in the drawing as follows:

"... Here you may purchase a badge for the eligible participant, OR, you may select to skip this purchase and register another guest. ...."

"Once you complete your first purchase, you will have the option to purchase for one additional guest."

Question: Does this mean that instead of yourself (who got the drawing email) you can buy a badge for another AND THEN purchase a badge for yet another guest?? In essence, the recipient of the drawing email can skip purchasing a badge for himself and buy a badge for a "substitute" person PLUS another guest??? The wording is ambiguous. Any ideas about this??  Thanks and good luck, everyone!

I would assume that's what it means, from the exact wording, but it is slightly ambiguous. Unfortunately, I won't be finding out first hand. Haha.

If your posting this question is an idication that you are now in possession of an additional badge slot(assuming you can purchase for two different people than yourself) perhaps you'd consider me? If not, it's fine. I don't "need" it like some claim to, I'd just like it. Haha.

I believe the response received from CCI when question was emailed is that it's 2 regardless but you'd have to go back a few pages to confirm.

Know that if this person you messaged was not talking about a guest spot/chance in the lottery, but an actual physical ticket--buying from them has a high potential to get you and them banned from the con. SDCC does not allow for second hand tickets to be sold. If the ticket is not under your name/Member ID, you are eligible for banning.

I too would like to throw my hat in the ring in case of last minute drops/cancelations.
If anyone would be willing to take me on as their guest spot, please just PM me and I can PayPal the funds of the four days and whatever days you don't grab, you can simply return that cost to me.

Thanks.

I have a question for the die hard Comic-Con fans about the lottery. How do you feel about the fact that people are able to sell their second guest slot? Or possibly even two guest slots?

Is it OK because the person buying the guest slot already had to have a valid Member ID and clearly has had true interest in attending the show and followed all the steps to enter the drawing? Or do you feel it is no better than the Craigslist scalping to the general public?

Would be interested to hear your thoughts!

The email with the link seems different from the You Have Been Chosen email:

New email:
When you have reached the front of the queue, you will be prompted to put in the last name and Member ID of the selected participant (eligible participant). You must enter the eligible participant’s Member ID. You will have an opportunity to enter your guest’s Member ID later in the registration session if you wish to make another purchase.

Old email:
After you enter the last name and Member ID of the eligible participant, you will be directed to the badge selection screen.

We cannot guarantee that the same badge types will be available for each guest you enter.

So the first one indicated you didn't have to buy for the eligible member id, the new one says you do.  Right??  If so this screws my plan.

It's no better than scalping, IMHO. Isn't selling a badge slot against CCI's rules anyway?

It's "legalized" scalping in that you paid well above cost for a badge but at least it's in your name. You can head over to the CCI Facebook page and see all the offers people are posting. We've deleted or edited the posts here from people offering anything more than face value but people on FB are either posting a $$ amount they are offering or specifying they are willing to negotiate.

I don't think there should've been a lottery in the first place but since there was, there needed to be better measures in place to either lock in who the 2nd Member ID was going to be or shorten the timeframe between when the lottery winners were picked and when the sale occured so that there wasn't time to create a bidding war.

If this is the route taken for next year's sale, you can bet there will be an even bigger market for scalped badges as many people will use this as an opportunity to raise funds to cover their trips and you'll truly take away badges from "die hard fans".

It's no better than scalping, but it's not something CCI can really do anything about with this setup.  If they ever decided to do the lottery method for the general sale I think there would be a lot of unscrupulous people selling their extra slots.  No way to prove it since CCI would only see the end result - a person with a badge in their name per the rules.

Khaaaaaaanh! This is exactly why I do not support any kind of lottery system. Since this lottery was put in place look how many newcomers have shown up here from FB looking to purchase badges. The system will become more corrupt then before.

I also disagree with selling badge slots. If you want to help out a friend, that's one thing, but taking money  for a 'place on line' is scalping.

I was in batch 6. So I got Thurs-Sat (I plan on leaving Sun, so I wouldn't go anyways. I feel bad for getting a 4 day pass last year when I didn't go Sunday). So psyched. Now I just have to figure out how I'm getting to California.

For s**ts and giggles, I clicked the link again on my phone at 10:02 pst, and was batch 302.

On another note- I was not allowed to buy a ticket for another member. They did not have a Saturday or 4 day pass. I called customer service, but they had no clue why they were ineligible. Good going guys :I.

That is exactly what I got. When I call they told me it was because the member was ineligible according to their data base. I'm thinking this was more of a glitch though...

edit: I am wondering if they are denying ANYONE who had ANY day already purchased instead of the 4 day or Saturday like they had previously said.

I was batch #12. Got all four days for a friend and all four days for a forum member here (someone who has been here a while).

I think the batches thing was a good idea. not sure how much less of a burden on the site it is to do it in batches vs just putting everyone in a line though. They might implement badges for regular sales if it helps.

I'm really confused about this resale. Everyone keeps telling me you can only get a ticket for you and another person, but a friend of a friend (who I previously thought had read her email wrong) was able to purchase badges for two other people including herself and almost got one for a fourth before Fri sold out.

This is the quote i got from CCI after I bought my ticket and my cousins

Thank you for submitting your Comic-Con 2013 online badge request. If you would like to purchase an additional badge for someone else, please click the “Purchase Another Badge” button above. If you do not see the option to “Purchase Another Badge” you have reached your two person limit.

We will process your credit card payment within the next 48-72 hours, and if your card is successfully charged, you will receive a receipt of the transaction and the official Comic-Con barcode confirmation.

Due to the high level of registration activity, barcode confirmation delivery may take up to 72 hours. Please allow at least 72 hours for your barcode confirmation to arrive before contacting Comic-Con International. If you have purchased a badge for another attendee, the cardholder will receive one credit card transaction acknowledgement via e-mail and each Comic-Con barcode confirmation will be sent to the individual attendee directly.

Thank you and see you in July!

sounds like she had two different browsers open, two separate queues. I did this myself in case one crashed. Had firefox in batch 12, and IE in batch 26. Both would have gotten me access to all four days. If i had at least two lottery winning member ID's i could have bought 4 total badges. If she only had one lottery winner, there is no way to purchase more than two, the link to purchase another badges dissapeared at the end of buying the 2nd one

Well I guess I'll wait and see if my friend and her friends get their confirmation, but she swears up and down that they purchased badges for 3 people. I'm happy for her that she got her tickets, but I find it very strange that they were able to purchase more than everyone else.

While I agree,up to a certain point, about the whole scalping thing selling your spot in the lottery,I have to admit that being an international attendee,I was willing to make a good offer to anyone who could get me a ticket even for ONE day! And yes, like I said when I signed up here,I felt very bad doing it just to ask if anyone could add me as their guest. But since CC did the lottery thing, which excluded the I in CCI,lol,I just had to try anything in the end. After 14 years of attending,I just couldn't stop just yet.

I hate scalping and never felt what I offered was scalping. Just paying for me and someone else, lol! And I was the one offering it,not the other person saying it's gonna cost ya such and such.

I really hope CC doesn't do this again. And they SAID that the guest could be anyone with a member id! From anywhere in the world! Did they change their mind?!

Congrats to those who managed to get tickets!   :D

I wonder if all of the scalping on FB will make CCI rethink this format for general sales (if indeed that's what they're planning). Otherwise, maybe within 24 hours of being notified that you were eligible for the lottery, you'd have to fill out a form listing the other members you'd be trying to buy for? That way scalpers would have less time to get people into a bidding war. Just throwing out ideas...Though this would have the opposite effect of stopping some honest people from helping others out, or adding another friend last minute, which would throw a wrench in the works for some people. It also wouldn't stop the scalping completely, as they'd still have that 24 hour period, but it would cut down on their time frame.

Epic, you make a great point. We know CCI monitors the FB page. and they must have seen all of the scalping offers. That could be why they *might* have shut down access for international badge purchases?

Oh, I never thought you were scalping, and I'm sorry if you thought I did! I was just trying to wrap my mind around why CCI would exclude internationals from being the second badge purchased, when their previous statements said that the second badge purchased could be anyone with a Member ID who didn't already have Saturday access.

I don't buy the 'Epic system couldn't handle it' argument, since Epic can clearly handle internationals in the normal badge sales.

So, in a weird karmic twist of fate: a friend was supposed to get all four days for himself and try for Sat for hubby. His page never refreshed. In a panic, he sends me the link (should have asked this morning, but wanted to be respectful and not pry) and his Member ID and I go in, but in batch #2700. I finally get in, and get my friend Thurs and Sun. Still no Sat for my hubby so we will have to figure something else out for Saturday. But, I got awesome karmic points. :-)

Just to add to this, I never got rid of my hostel reservation. I just saved that same friend $150 or so by putting his name under my reservation and making it just one bed instead of two.

So, something amazing better happen to me next month, lol.

The thing is, unless you follow them on Facebook, you didn't really know. They didn't even send a tweet out about it or anything. So unless you were here or follow a SDCC related account on Twitter (like mine ;) ) you weren't aware of it.

Yeah, that was absolute crap. Not being able to get around the legalities of international laws, I get. But they didn't let anyone know that non-us citizens couldn't be guests either.

I'm wondering if the internationals not being guests was a last minute thing because of a) suddenly realizing that the way the lottery rules worked precluded internationals from being the second badge purchased and/or b) an attempt to stop much of the scalping that was going on.

I'd bet-with my limited con experience-that it was scalping because that was my first thought when the scalping threads started on FB.
Title: Re: badge Resale lottery!
Post by: robster on June 19, 2013, 09:33:02 AM
There were scalping threads on FB!? I was there,I only saw people offering to pay good money to be added as someone's guest. But maybe some see that as scalping,I dunno. When I hear scalping I think ebay and people buying up toys in stores to sell for three times the price on ebay or somewhere. On FB,they were offering to pay for the person that added them as guest. At least that was my offer for the last week or so,lol! Never meant to scalp if that to is considered scalping.

Just got confirmation with the barcode scan!

Print it now and put it in whatever luggage you are taking the show.  Just don't hide it in one of the buried pockets where you won't find it again.

The barcodes tend to disappear from the emails over time.

I don't know about anyone else, but I have a "CCI" folder I instantly send all Comic-Con related emails to. I also never delete emails from it out until after the event(somewhat out of paranoia).

I also print out two copies of the barcode email, one for the wallet, and one for my carry on.

At least those are the methods which work for me.

That's how I am too! Everything is store electronically in a few different places (one laptop, one desktop and the original emails in whatever web account I used for backup). It's always a fine line between not printing things out so early that I have a chance to misplace them and waiting until too late that all the normal last minute catastrophes (e.g. printer problems!) have us running late to the airport! Luckily we're driving this year so there's one less confirmation to keep track of!

i won the lottery, was up at the exact second of the exact hour of the exact day and the only dates left were Thursday and Sunday, on the original badge day, i was up also at the exact second, i believe i clicked the button in excitement about 15 seconds too soon, my clock or their clock was off, either way it was around 8:59 and not 9:00 on the dot, I've yet to see a more insanely chaotic mayhem driven system for purchasing passes in my life, it's like THE JOKER invented the system for pure laughs, i tweeted my disgust with the system of course and apparently the universe read that tweet because i was selected in the lottery and get to be there for the grand finale, but of course I'm not sleeping on the street because I still gotta pick up my friggin badge and it'd be impossible to get into the important lines when i'm in the line for worthless badge pickup city, anyways I'll still have fun checkin out the booths and whatnot, heard sponge b square p's voice will be there, gonna have to punch some kids in the face to get into that room jk, if you don't have a sense of humor don't read my post i guess i shoulda put that at the top, anyways it's worth it for badge pre-reg 2014
