Title: NYCC 2017 Changes to Ticket Buying Process
Post by: Transmute Jun on March 17, 2017, 07:56:09 AM
NYCC Fans,
It's that time of the year again and we've got a few NYCC updates for you. (Nah, sorry, no dates for on-sale yet!)

First: We will be requiring Fan Verification again in order to buy a NYCC 2017 ticket or have one purchased for you. Fan Verification will open on April 19, 2017 for anyone who didn't create a profile last year. Anyone who fills out a Fan Verification profile will have access to the limited quantity ticket on-sale at a later date. If you're new to NYCC and have questions about this process or just need a refresher, check out our FAQs.

Second: Anyone who created a Fan Verification profile in 2016, your profiles will carry over in 2017. Hip-hip hooray! As an extra thank you, we're giving fans with NYCC 2016 profiles first crack at a limited number of tickets with a special NYCC 2017 ticket presale. Only fans with NYCC 2016 Fan Verification profiles will be able to purchase tickets during the presale or have one purchased for and assigned to them. Quantities for the presale will be limited and if you're unable to get the tickets you want, you'll have another chance during the general on-sale happening at a later date.

Keep an eye on your inbox - our fam at ShowClix will be sending you a note (from [email protected]) to either confirm that your 2016 details are correct or allow you to update them. This is important. If you don't update or confirm your details, you could miss out on the presale. If you had a Fan Verification profile in 2016, but don't receive that email by Tuesday, March 21, please email [email protected] with the email address you used last year to Fan Verify and our customer service superheroes can assist.

Third: We're going to be real with you, this is a very bittersweet announcement - we are eliminating 3-Day and 4-Day tickets. We will only be selling single day Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Sunday Kids tickets to NYCC 2017.

You may or may not know that the Javits Center is going to be under construction. This means we'll be working with some space limitations and we want to make sure as many people have the opportunity to buy a ticket and come to the show as possible. Selling only single day tickets will give more fans the chance to buy a ticket for at least a day to experience the fun of NYCC.

Fourth: We hear you and we want to make the ticket buying process as smooth as possible. This year, tickets will go on sale during the weekend. We polled our Facebook event and you answered saying Saturday and Sunday were the best days for us to launch tickets. We'll do what we can to choose the most requested day and use the second choice as a backup. (And yes, we hear that you don't like the virtual queue, but unfortunately it isn't going away. Despite popular opinion, it keeps our website from crashing. We're working with ShowClix to improve the queue.)

As always, thank you for your commitment and passion for NYCC. We're looking forward to giving you even more amazing content across fantastic venues to experience with us. We can't wait to reveal more of what we've been working on for you.

If you have any questions, please reach out to our team via email [email protected] or submit questions through our NYCC Facebook page (take a look at our timeline for the exact photo to comment with your questions). We'll be hosting a Facebook Live Q&A with our team to answer your burning questions and provide any clarity around these changes and the upcoming on-sale. Our Facebook Live Q&A will be going live on Monday, March 20 at 3:30 PM EDT.

So they're moving to a single days tickets only model like SDCC, and they're having a pre-sale for everyone who actually followed the rules and fan verified last year. Nice!

Well...this is an interesting development.  I like that you can participate in the NYCC presale even if you were unable to obtain tickets.
Title: Re: 2017 Ticket changes
Post by: mllNY on March 17, 2017, 08:03:31 AM
what are the prices of the individual days... 3 day were $65 which basically means they are going triple their profits. This shows attention to fans in regards to tickets does in my opinion get a bit weaker each year

will they combine tickets to one badge if you get all days like SDCC, carrying around 4 badges is pleh.

Assuming press and Pro will still just have one badge. just so many questions.

Third: We're going to be real with you..

You may or may not know that the Javits Center is going to be under construction. This means we'll be working with some space limitations and we want to make sure as many people have the opportunity to buy a ticket and come to the show as possible.

also can i be real back: will they bring the 3 and 4 day badges back after construction is completed

Omg the whole badge thing is gonna piss off so many people yet at the same time you won't get people buying the weekend passes just to use them for sat

Still wondering about PRo passes

Another interesting tidbit I almost missed...

"We'll be hosting a Facebook Live Q&A with our team to answer your burning questions and provide any clarity around these changes and the upcoming on-sale. Our Facebook Live Q&A will be going live on Monday, March 20 at 3:30 PM EDT."

...get your burning questions ready! --- while many of us will be at work or school.

And I just got my fan verification email.

Quote
We’ve got good news and bad news.

The bad news is this email is not going to tell you when NYCC tickets are going on sale. (Sorry.)

The good news is you’ll find out in the next few months. Until then, we need you to confirm your personal details from your 2016 fan verification profile so you receive 2017 ticket updates from us. Please either confirm the info below or click to update it!
Title: Re: 2017 Ticket changes

And once I confirmed everything, this is the message I got.

Your New York Comic Con 2017 Fan Verification is complete!
You are now Fan Verified and will have the opportunity to purchase NYCC 2017 tickets when they go on sale. You will only hear from us if we have questions, so you can rest easy!

Please note: Fan Verification provides you the opportunity to buy NYCC tickets, but does not guarantee them. NYCC tickets will still be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Prior to NYCC tickets going on sale, you will receive a unique link to purchase NYCC tickets in your inbox. Make sure you add [email protected] and [email protected] to your contacts and mark it as safe so emails from us don't filter into your spam or junk folders. The unique link will arrive in your inbox approximately 48 hours before on-sale. We will not be announcing the on-sale date prior to 48 hours before tickets sales are live so continue to monitor your inbox and follow the NYCC social channels for updates.

If you have any questions please reach out to our team via email [email protected].

Wow, what a price increase. Now $195 for all 4 days. I think that was close to the special access 4 day Vip pass from previous years.
I need to somehow get Pro or Press.

http://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/Tickets/NYCC-Ticket-Process-and-Show-News/Fan-Verification-FAQs/

Assigning NYCC Tickets

How do I individually assign my friends and family to each ticket I buy?

You must include the email address used in Fan Verification to assign each individual ticket. Each person must be Fan Verified and there is a limit of one Ticket type per person per day. If your friend or family member did not fill out a Fan Verification profile, you will not be able to purchase their ticket.

When do I assign my tickets?

You will assign your tickets during checkout. Have your friends’ and family’s names and email addresses that they used when Fan Verifying handy! You’ll have a few more minutes added to check out, but having them on hand will help you check out quickly.

How long do I have to assign my friends and family to the tickets I buy for them?

You must assign your tickets during checkout so have their Fan Verification details handy (name and email address).

Some of us already did.  Last year 4-days were sold out by the time I got to the front of the queue.  Since I wanted a 4-day, I had no choice but to buy single days.  $75 I shouldn't have had to spend.

Only giving 48 hours notice on when tickets go on sale is really annoying to me. I understand wanting to curb scalpers but i don't get how this really does anything to accomplish that. 48 hours is plenty of time for real scalpers to mobilize. I think the only people who giving only 48 hours notice impacts are the real fans trying to get tickets since now we have to basically keep every weekend free until they decide to have the sale. And some people do work on weekends. I do and if i know in advance i can take the day off but i can't take the day off if i only get 48 hours notice.

Also got the email. Note the dates that fan verification will remain open. That means the general sale will take place sometime after May 3.

***

The day is here!

Fan Verification 2017 is now open through May 3 at 12:00 PM ET. If you, your bestie, or your favorite Asgardian God didn't create a profile last year, you will need to create one in order to have the opportunity to buy tickets to NYCC 2017. If you are new to the process and have questions, check out our FAQs.

Make sure your friends, family, and nemeses (maybe not that last one) fill out a profile if they're interested in attending NYCC 2017. Every ticket must be assigned to a Fan Verified email during checkout so whether you are buying for others or others are buying for you, everyone who wants a ticket needs to be Fan Verified.

Once you've filled out your Fan Verification profile you will get a confirmation email from ShowClix stating you've successfully been verified. Hang tight and keep your eyes and ears open for the general on-sale announcement.

Note: anyone filling out a Fan Verification profile between April 19 and May 3 at 12:00 PM ET will only have access to tickets during the general on-sale. They WILL NOT be eligible for the presale or be able to be assigned to tickets purchased during the presale. Sorry, but presale is for 2016 Fan Verified fans only.

Thanks,
NYCC Team

Out of curiosity, will there also be a buying group set up for NYCC? It's probably too soon now to do that? I see one from 2016. I'm hoping a separate thread is made for it.
it is my intention to push for a buying group. of course it helps to have volunteers to help organize stuff ;)

Here is the buying group plan:

I will have ur email and days preferred.
Day of sales we click the link and the person who goes through will be responsible for buying for themselves and the 3 who come after them.

Would I be able to do it in presale?

Only if your friend is fan verified for 2016 pre-sale. If not, then no.

ICYMI: #NYCC 2016 Fan Verified peeps, check your email! We just sent you your unique presale link and the presale date and time. (Don't forget to look in your spam or junk folders JIC!) If you don't see it there, you can follow these steps to get to your My Tickets page:

Make sure you're prepared! Copy and paste your presale link and put it somewhere safe. Don't wait until the morning of the presale to look for your link. There's a limited number of presale tickets and they will go fast. Don't miss out.

Remember: Only those who were Fan Verified in 2016 are eligible for the presale. That means even if you're eligible and you're trying to buy a ticket for your friend who just Fan Verified last week, you won't be able to. You'll receive an error when trying to assign a ticket to them and it won't let you check out. You've been warned.

It's super important that you stay in communication w your friends! If an email is already used you'll get an error.

If this happens, u'll need to remove the ticket from ur cart &will need to cancel ur order to do so. You could wind up losing the other tix.

If they are aware people are buying for groups and 'rallying squads' they should know what kind of clusterf*ck it could be and have a system that would let you remove the unused ticket without cancelling the other tickets.

this has been an issue with showclix badge sales for years, they had a year to test this and it should have been addressed prior to sale

NYCC updated the Walkthrough a bit  http://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/Tickets/Assigning-Tickets-Walkthrough/ (this version has the language for the general on-sale and more bold text.)

Assigning Tickets Walkthrough

During the ticket buying process for New York Comic Con this year, you will need to assign your tickets to a unique Fan Verified profile. Last year, you could do this after you bought your tickets. This year we’re requiring you to do this as you checkout. You will not be able to checkout until this step is completed.

To help prepare you for this step, we’ve included a walkthrough below of what the page will look like and the possible scenarios you’ll face. Take a look and make sure you’re prepared!

This is what the page will look like once you have tickets in your cart and you move forward through the checkout process. Let’s say you’re buying two Thursday tickets.

(https://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.newyorkcomiccon.com%2FRNA%2FRNA_NewYorkComicCon_V2%2F2017%2F_img%2Fassign-tickets%2Ffull%2FNYCC-17-1-No-Answers.jpg%3Fv%3D636290074129053559&hash=8d1e7f10a2f509b0a6e6bec35bb9dc061cefd7b1)

From the dropdown you will select whether the first ticket is for an ‘Adult’ or a ‘Kid’. When you select ‘Adult’, another open field will appear that will ask you for the Fan Verification email address that should assigned to this ticket — whether you’re assigning this ticket to yourself or someone else.

(https://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.newyorkcomiccon.com%2FRNA%2FRNA_NewYorkComicCon_V2%2F2017%2F_img%2Fassign-tickets%2Ffull%2FNYCC-17-2-Answered.jpg%3Fv%3D636290074152836777&hash=2efcc15754842c31285b6f34eecdbccac96fa335)

For the general on-sale, you can include anyone who has a Fan Verification profile.

Now let’s say the second ticket you’re buying is for a kid ages 6-12 (remember kids 5 years old and under are free!). When you select ‘Kid’ from the dropdown, another open field will appear and ask you the age of the kid at the time of NYCC. You will select that age (options are 6-12). Please be prepared to show proof of age onsite if requested.

Now let’s say you’re being sneaky and purchase a ticket for a friend who doesn’t have a Fan Verification profile. Nice try, but when you enter their email address you’ll see this error message pop up and you won’t be able to complete your purchase until the ticket is assigned to someone eligible for the presale or removed from your cart.

(https://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.newyorkcomiccon.com%2FRNA%2FRNA_NewYorkComicCon_V2%2F2017%2F_img%2Fassign-tickets%2Ffull%2FNYCC-17-3-Not-Verified.jpg%3Fv%3D636290074163478921&hash=b824c1f0dba432d85ea6a64ba96b2785900296c1)

THIS IS IMPORTANT: If you need to remove the ticket from your cart you need to cancel your entire order. This means that the tickets you reserved for yourself will also be cancelled. You will then be brought back to the main page (not the virtual queue but the page where you choose your tickets) to select your tickets again. There is a chance that during this time the tickets you had reserved for yourself could now be sold out. DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU. Avoid it at all costs by making sure that during the presale you're:

   1. Only buying tickets for those who were also Fan Verified in 2016

   2. Talking to anyone else who in your squad to make sure you're not double buying tickets for someone. This cancel order process also applies if you try to assign someone to a ticket that's already been assigned. More on that soon

If you receive the error message and they are Fan Verified from 2016, it probably means you typed their email address incorrectly. It’s super important that you have their correct email address ready to go prior to buying tickets. Make sure you grab that now so you don’t get this message!

Oh look! You tried to skip assigning your tickets. No such luck. Fill in the empty field and then you can move forward. As we said, you will not be able to complete your purchase until all tickets are assigned to someone who is Fan Verified.

(https://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.newyorkcomiccon.com%2FRNA%2FRNA_NewYorkComicCon_V2%2F2017%2F_img%2Fassign-tickets%2Ffull%2FNYCC-17-4-Missing-Email.jpg%3Fv%3D636290074170240088&hash=fff2035f606874d7bbc88f142fbd38b365b7e17a)

Uh oh! The person you’re trying to assign to this ticket has already been assigned to a ticket on this day! We understand that you’ll rally your squad to see who gets through the virtual queue first and then have that person buy your tickets. This is totally fine by us, but make sure you’re in communication! Only one person should be buying and assigning tickets. The system will know when someone’s already been assigned to a ticket and will give you this error message.

(https://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.newyorkcomiccon.com%2FRNA%2FRNA_NewYorkComicCon_V2%2F2017%2F_img%2Fassign-tickets%2Ffull%2FNYCC-17-5-Already-Assigned.jpg%3Fv%3D636290074176385230&hash=67f862de36ce6d31994a60f5b0c5d4aadb2829ab)

THIS IS IMPORTANT: If you need to remove that ticket from your cart because the person you're buying for already got through and assigned themselves to the ticket then you need to cancel your entire order. Avoid it at all costs by making sure that you're in communication with your friends and family.

“But wait!” you ask with a quizzical brow. “If we can only be assigned to one ticket, how can we go to NYCC all four days?” You can only be assigned to one ticket per day. You can assign yourself or someone you’re buying a ticket for to at least one ticket per day. You just can’t assign yourself to two tickets on the same day (ie. You buy two Friday tickets and try to assign yourself to both).
