I suspect by the time the film opens the majority of the public will have forgotten about this tragedy, and it's not like that will be in the marketing.  I suspect this is more of a low budget direct to video/streaming kind of thing anyway.  It's not like Alec Baldwin opens theatrical movies nowadays
Marketing won't mention it, but the news and social media sure will. So, the bereaved husband takes cash and an executive producer credit, and all is fine. SMH.

Agreed. I think because the file is so low-profile, this is ALL people will know about it. They'll probably get some voyeurs from that but most people will probably stay away... if they even notice the release.

To be fair, and maybe blunt, this is likely the kind of movie no one would've noticed had there not been a massive tragic story attached to it

All publicity is good publicity.  People will see it just to see what the “fuss” is about.

Alec Baldwin has filed a counter suit against the armorer and other people who handled weapons on the set of “Rust” to clear his name, saying he’s had difficulty finding work since the shooting accident.

Surprised he isn't suing the victim for causing him emotional and financial distress.

The District Attorney in Santa Fe, New Mexico is charging both Alec Baldwin and the armorer with felony involuntary manslaughter in the accidental shooting death of the cinematographer on the set of “Rust” in October 2021.

I'm very surprised they charged Alec, I thought the assistant director who handed him the gun was more likely to be charged.  I think Alec was charged as an actor, as opposed to a producer, which makes it even stranger.  Not that I think Alec is blameless.

Update to this story: all criminal charges against Alec Baldwin have been dropped: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
From the article:
Quote
It's understood that Santa Fe prosecutors will be going ahead with involuntary manslaughter charges against (the film's armorer, Hannah) Gutierrez-Reed, who has pleaded not guilty.

I always presumed that this was the likely outcome, as it would've been incredibly difficult to pin the blame on Baldwin.  The responsibilities of weapons on set falls on the production's armorer, and typically the Assistant Director (and maybe, ultimately, the Director who typically has the final authority on a set).  The good news from this tragedy is it would seem a lot more productions are going to non-working firearms and augmenting w/CGI.  This happens _FAR_ more than most of us know/realize (for example, the JOHN WICK movies do a very good job with zero firing guns on all of their film productions), and feels like a no-brainer as far as production safety is concerned.  There are soooo many things a director has to think/worry about on set on any given day, this feels like a relatively easy one to be able to eliminate.

So this matter seems closed now, as far as Baldwin is concerned, and I'd be a little surprised if we see any further news of this criminal case in the mainstream media.

The caveat is the charges are dismissed "without prejudice," meaning technically they can still be refiled in the future.

From The Santa Fe New Mexican:

The case against "Rust" armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed — who faces the same fourth-degree felony charge Baldwin was charged with — will proceed as scheduled with a two week preliminary hearing slated to begin next month, the source said.

The troubled film production of "Rust" is expected to resume filming this week in a new location at the Yellowstone Film Ranch near Darby, Montana.  Alec Baldwin will remain an actor and producer tied to the project.

There is a set of new prosecutors and new charges against armoror Hannah Gutierrez-Reed.  She is now charged with evidence tampering.  On the day investigators came to the set when the cinematographer was killed, the armoror had some narcotics and that she passed them on to someone else before police got to see them.  Also prosecutors allege the armoror smoked pot and drank on a daily basis during the shoot and she was so smashed she accidentally put a live round in the gun that was eventually handed to Alec Baldwin.

I live here and don't hear much about this case anymore.  Isn't her Dad a really well respected armorer?  Why were live rounds anywhere near the set?

And in a bit of a shocking reversal Alec Baldwin has once again been indicted on charges of involuntary manslaughter You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
From the article, and the likely reason why prosecutors filed charges today:
Quote
Two special prosecutors, Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis, sent the gun for further forensic testing last summer. Their experts, Lucien and Michael Haag, reconstructed the gun — which had been broken during FBI testing — and concluded that it could only have been fired by a pull of the trigger.

“This fatal incident was the consequence of the hammer being manually retracted to its fully rearward and cocked position followed, at some point, by the pull or rearward depression of the trigger,” the report concluded. “Although Alec Baldwin repeatedly denies pulling the trigger, given the tests, findings and observations reported here, the trigger had to be pulled or depressed sufficiently to release the fully cocked or retracted hammer of the evidence revolver.”

Yep, I knew back in April he wasn’t out of the woods. “Without prejudice.”
