Title: Star Wars Panel, 5:30-6:30 pm, Hall H

From SDCC U Blog.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Marching Towards Hall H; Other Star Wars Panels

http://sdccblog.com/2015/06/star-wars-the-force-awakens-marching-towards-hall-h-other-star-wars-panels/ (http://sdccblog.com/2015/06/star-wars-the-force-awakens-marching-towards-hall-h-other-star-wars-panels/)

ETA...

What’s that sound in the distance? It’s the sound of an Imperial march, headed straight for Hall H.
After all the speculation about whether or not Star Wars: The Force Awakens would potentially be headed to Comic-Con this year, especially in light of Marvel Studios skipping, we’ve finally got our answer: They’re coming for you, SDCC attendees. On friday, July 10 in Hall H.

The panel, which currently doesn’t have a time, promises that present and producer Kathleen Kennedy, director J.J. Abrams, writer Lawrence Kasdan, and “special guests” will be on hand to  provide a special look at Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

That’s far from the only Star Wars panel during SDCC though, as they’ll also be presenting panels on everything from publishing (Star Wars Publishing 2015, Part 2), toys (Hasbro Star Wars, Star Wars Collectibles Update), gaming (Disney Infinity 3.0), and more. Here’s a look at the full schedule:

Friday, July 10, Star Wars Schedule

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Hall H
Lucasfilm president and producer Kathleen Kennedy, director J.J. Abrams, writer Lawrence Kasdan, and special guests provide a special look at Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Star Wars Publishing 2015, Part 1: 10:00 p.m. — 11:00 p.m.; Room: 7AB
Join a dynamic, all-star, New York Times-bestselling panel of authors including Alexandra Bracken (the Darkest Minds series), Adam Gidwitz (A Tale Dark and Grim series), Tom Angleberger (The Origami Yoda series), and Tony Diterlizzi (The Spiderwick Chronicles) in conversation with Lucasfilm’s Mike Siglain about the new Star Wars retellings for a younger generation of fans. From  picture books to novels, these authors present A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi in perspectives that will change the way readers understand who these beloved characters are and how they became legends for legions of fans.

Star Wars Publishing 2015, Part 2: 11:00 p.m. — 12:00 p.m.; Room: 7AB
Join a variety of authors as they talk about their upcoming projects from that galaxy far, far away. Moderated by Lucasfilm’s Mike Siglain, authors from Del Rey and other publishers will participate in a discussion on writing stories for the exciting new future of the Star Wars universe.

Hasbro Star Wars, 12:00 p.m. — 1:00 p.m., Room: 7AB
Join members of the Hasbro and Lucasfilm teams as they discuss the popular Hasbro Star Wars line. Attendees will get an in-depth look at Hasbro’s latest action figure offerings, and word on the Holonet is there may also be a few surprises, including a special product reveal.

Star Wars Collectibles Update with Lucasfilm’s Anita Castellar, 1:00 p.m. — 2:00 p.m., Room: 7AB
Join eFX, Gentle Giant Studios, Kotobukiya, and Sideshow Collectibles for product development insights and exclusive previews of the latest in Star Wars collectibles. In attendance will be Anita Castellar, a self-professed Star Wars fangirl who manages licensing for hardline categories at Lucasfilm such as toys, collectibles, consumer electronics, automotives, and more.

ILM 40th Anniversary, 2:00 p.m. — 3:00 p.m., Room: 7AB
For 40 years, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) has set the standard for visual effects, creating some of the most memorable images in the history of modern cinema. From advances in the photo chemical process, optical compositing, motion control, and models and miniatures - to the company’s pioneering efforts in computer graphics, digital compositing, film scanning and recording, morphing, digital environments, performance capture, character animation and modern digital pipelines, ILM continues to break new ground in visual effects for film, television, themed attractions, and new forms of entertainment. The presenters will discuss the company’s work from its earliest days and breakthroughs along the way.

Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition at San Diego Comic Con 2015
For the first time, Star Wars joins forces with characters from across The Walt Disney Company in Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition — the next chapter in the best-selling hybrid toy/video game series. Fans are invited to the Disney Infinity Pop-Up Shop, located at the heart of Gaslamp District, for the opportunity to play as Ahsoka Tano, Luke Skywalker, Darth Maul or any of the Star Wars characters featured in Star Wars: Twilight of the Republic and Star Wars: Rise Against the Empire.

Fans will also have a chance to step into the “Disney Infinity Only in the Toy Box” mediated reality experience, where guests virtually enter the Toy Box and interact alongside their favorite Disney Infinity characters, such as engaging in lightsaber duels with Darth Vader or Yoda, and take home a customized photo and video with their chosen character. Other Disney Infinity Pop-Up Shop activities include a Toy Box TV Live Edition webcast on Twitch featuring new announcements, surprise guests, contests with prizes, and exclusive giveaways.

Guys, is it possible with this announcement that Walking Dead and/or GoT might *not* be in Hall H Friday?  Maybe?

I was wondering the same thing. If those things are all in Hall H on Friday.....I don't even want to imagine the mayhem on controlling the lines and when people start them. I was considering a Thursday campout for Hall H to finally give TWD panel a shot, but if it's on Friday with Star Wars? Screw. That. No one is leaving that Hall from the moment it's full in the morning until it's done that evening.

That's what I'm really, really, REALLY worried about now. These are my two favorites and I was planning on going all out for these (i.e. Hall H camp out), but I don't have a Saturday badge. I'm going to be really disappointed if they have them on that day  :-[

I suspect the correct times for the publishing panels are 10am to 11am and 11am to 12pm.  Otherwise 11pm to 12pm panel would be 13 hours long.

They might do what they did at celebration by having it the first panel in the morning as the time hasn't been announced yet.  Hopefully, they'll release the panel online like they did for most of the celebration panels.

I'll be honest, this news just lessened the weight on my shoulders a little. Ballroom 20 seems pretty light on Friday, so with Star Wars/TWD/GOT potentially all in Hall H, I feel pretty confident saying that I'll be able to walk into the iZombie panel.

Star Wars has taken over 7AB all day on Saturday! That's pretty crazy. I'm really excited about the Disney Pop-Up Shop. I wonder where it will be located in the Gaslamp. I'm hoping they have some good t-shirts/toys available.

That's true. If it were 10 am to 11 am, then the hall might clear out afterward. Something to think about...

Probably because while lucasfilm and marvel studios are both owned by Disney they operate as separate entities and decide what they want to do themselves

And JJ Abrams said in February that he wanted to bring Star Wars to SDCC and Kathleen Kennedy went to San Diego State -- I think if they both wanted to do SDCC, Disney wasn't going to say no.

Its just speculation.  Well they are filming Captain America: Civil War now. Besides that they have nothing as they already announced the roadmap of phase 3.

If they do, there's not many more slots to fill up in B20 that day. Already it looks like:

10:00-11:00 - Big Bang Theory
11:15-12:15 - ?
12:30-1:30 - The 100
1:45-2:45 - Minority Report
3:00-4:15 - ? (Some kind of pilot + panel? Maybe Marvel TV group panel or Netflix group panel?)
4:30-5:30 - The Originals
5:45-6:45 - iZombie
7:00-8:00 - ?

So there's still slots available in the room, but not many. It also just seems weird picturing those two sandwiched between the other mid-popularity TV show panels.

I completely agree. They can easily fit in 5-6 big panels in Hall H in one day. Star Wars is just one. GoT and TWD are 2 (or 3, if Fear:TWD is a separate panel). That still leaves extra room for other things.

I suspect Friday will just be a monster day in Hall H.

I think Heroes Reborn will get one of those Friday slots.  I heard Zachary Levi needed someone to cover for him at Nerd HQ on Friday(Alan Tudyk is) and he's in Heroes Reborn.  If that's true, Heroes Reborn could either be 11:15 or 3PM.

IMO--the smartest thing they could do with the Star Wars panel on Friday is make it the first panel of the day.  At least part of the room may clear for other panels after it and allow those fans in.

One of those B20 Friday slots could also be for   Dark Horse/Joss Whedon which is usually there on Fridays.

Also, does anyone else think it's funny that Star Wars was the first official movie announcement?  Lucasfilm/Disney is basically telling all the studios going on Saturday that they're going to have to pull out all the stops.

Hopefully they'll repeat the wristband system and at least one of us will get in line Thursday afternoon in which I will join too that evening, unless Thursday is a slow day in which I'll get in line earlier.

Regrettably this will mean I'll have to miss the MTV2 Fandom Awards at Petco scheduled for that evening.  Sometimes you have to choose between two events, meaning you'll have to sacrifice one.   :(

Well that would have been good to do with Marvel on Saturdays too, but they kept it as the last panel. So I wouldn't count on the scheduling being "smart"  ;D

I am excited to watch the Hall H line madness from my hotel window, and attend significantly less crowded Thursday and Friday panels/events!  8)

I really enjoyed the panel last year! Made me excited to see the show, and actually keep my excitement until it premiered mid-season. I think it should be easy to walk into B20 by that time, unless something huge is scheduled in the one slot after it.

The disabled entrance is inside in Hall G next to Hall H.  Not sure where the line starts in the morning before the convention center opens however as it will be somewhere outside. I think its next to the normal entrance of Hall H outside but don't quote me on that.

Last year the disabilities line for Hall H started near the normal Hall H entrance and ran along the side of the building (where the planters and the exit doors are).  It started small in the evening and by morning stretched along the entire wall and then extended onto the sidewalk.  If you just go to the same area where the grass and tents are the CCI staff will direct you.  While it looked like the line was quite long, it was single file and people were spaced out, so I'm sure it was much shorter once compressed.  But yes, even in this line there were overnight campers, some sleeping in wheelchairs.

They really need an large overflow room where you can still see footage - Hall H just isn't going to be big enough for Star Wars or DC/Warner - Please Comic-con - we need a bigger room (or multiple rooms) - work something out with Lucasfilm and Warner please!

I find the ADA line lacking in structure... as people already said, before it opens it's outside. I'm going for my second year with someone with mobility problems, she's not in a wheelchair, she can walk with some difficulties, and she can't sit on anything lower than a regular chair (like those foldable chairs), and there's no sitting area near the line, making it impossible for us (me as her attendant) to camp out.

Was it confirmed that Marvel wasn't coming because of D23? I thought it was because they really don't have anything new to put out there.

It hasn't been flat-out said (and it likely won't be), but there is no other explanation.  They included Ant-Man in their panel last year when Ant-Man hadn't even started production yet!  The year they had a panel for the first CAPTAIN AMERICA and THOR, they had been shooting CAP for only a couple of days but still brought a full-edited scene to Comic-Con.  Chris Evans said he hadn't even worn the final costume yet!

Marvel would've had PLENTY of time to bring CIVIL WAR sizzle reel if they wanted to: the excuse of "nothing new" was not a direct quote attributed to anyone, and when the Deadline writer wrote that (
Quote
With so many hit franchises in working order, Marvel’s Kevin Feige just doesn’t have anything new to show this year. That happened in 2011, the last time Marvel skipped the Con.
) I think it is significantly disingenuous in regards to 2011 as Marvel showed an AWESOME Avengers sizzle reel at D23 less than a month after Comic-Con.

DEFINITELY!  Or just put footage online.  Or just live-stream it to get the hype exponentially larger.  Celebration Anaheim was an AWESOME example of Lucasfilm sharing to ALL of their fans the new trailer + panel talk, and there's no reason this can't technically happen at Comic-Con.  The only excuses would be if either the studio doesn't want what is essentially "work product" to be released unto the cynical world, or if CCI thrives on the "we're super exclusive so sorry people who can't get a badge you miss EVERYTHING."  Either answer is legitimate, but technologically Lucasfilm has shown this is possible.

  • Lots of time left for additional panels that same day in Hall H...

  • ...wouldn't it be a cool surprise...

I would love that
I would almost love Deadline being wrong as much as a Marvel Panel  :P

Also to add to your above list, The official Comic-Con banners in downtown San Diego feature Ant-Man.  In 16 years of going to Comic-Con I can't recall when the banners did not go with a panel (though last year's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY banners did not feature a GUARDIANS panel per say, Marvel still promoted the film during their panel on Saturday + announce the green light of the sequel).
So maybe we'll be surprised...

** EDIT **
I just remembered there were also BIG HERO 6 banners last year in addition to the GotG banners; Disney animation hasn't had an SDCCI panel in awhile (maybe since the TOY STORY 3 panel?), and certainly didn't have one last year for BIG HERO SIX.

Okay, maybe someone with the schedule handy can verify this, but I recall last year in the Hyatt Fulfillment Room there was a table full of high quality plush Baymaxes. They were the swag at a Disney Animation panel.

It was "The Art of Big Hero 6", which was on Thursday in Room 7AB at 2 PM.

Anyone else find it weird nothing has been posted for Hall H on Saturday (other than the WB night)?  I'm getting curious.  It won't be better than Star Wars though, that already wins in my book.

Star wars has been the only movie panel announced so far. I'm sure Suicide Squad and Batman Superman will have a panel Saturday in hall h sometime too. Still curious on the rest of the movie panels though.

Yes, we got those on PN when our kids took pictures with Baymax at the Exhibit Floor booth. But the ones in the Fulfillment Room were much nicer and bigger.

As for postings, They have not announced anything for Friday in Hall H other than Star Wars, and they have not announced anything for Saturday in Hall H other than the WB/DC TV shows.

My thoughts (only guesses...) are:

Friday - TWD, Fear:TWD, GoT
Saturday - Fox Movies, DC Movies

I think Heroes Reborn will get one of those Friday slots.  I heard Zachary Levi needed someone to cover for him at Nerd HQ on Friday(Alan Tudyk is) and he's in Heroes Reborn.  If that's true, Heroes Reborn could either be 11:15 or 3PM.

IMO--the smartest thing they could do with the Star Wars panel on Friday is make it the first panel of the day.  At least part of the room may clear for other panels after it and allow those fans in.

I agree. I think that Heroes Reborn will be the 3pm-4:15pm slot, just like when they did the pilot screening for Agents of SHIELD, that was given extra time for Q&A, also for a total of 1 hr 15 min (1:45pm - 3:00pm).

There is really no good way to crack down - How well did the bracelets work last year?

I figured the bracelets worked rather well, I think they just need to enforce that any unofficial line that forms WILL be broken up and not counted (as well as groups hovering with the purpose of "holding their place" for when the line starts) leading up to the official line up starting time. Either that or move to an online ticket rush for certain days or panel blocks

edit: I'm certain it's easy to enforce these things if the bonus threat of losing your badge is there as well :p People really shouldn't have to miss a day of their con experience just to wait 20 hours for the panel they want to see

Yes, as was I, since we don't know what time slots are available in Hall H yet. I was comparing Heroes Reborn to AoS because that 1 hr 15 min pilot screening and Q&A was in B20.

Now that sounds interesting - maybe integrate it with app that comic-con provides us for personalizing our schedules.

This may be a kooky idea, but what if they sold Hall H passes? Instead of buying a badge for that day, you could buy a Hall H pass, which would guarantee you entrance. They could sell 75% of the seats in Hall H this way, and leave the other 25% for ADA and 'walk-ins'. If you have a Hall H pass, you cannot buy a regular attendee pass, so no exhibit floor or other panels that day, just Hall H.

Just something off the top of my head. I'm sure it's not ideal... but could it work?

Maybe for next year. I think there would be to much outrage if they decided to announce it this close to comic con. That is an announcement that should be made before badge sales.

Oh yes, clearly. It would be incorporated into badge sales. Yes, you wouldn't know what would be in Hall H each day, but that's the same as not knowing what the programming will be for any other day at the time you buy badges.

Unless the tickets had a specific seat number, it wouldn't stop people from lining up early to get the best seats, though it would curtail much of the insanity.

What about something similar to New York Comic Con with the Ultimate Access VIP tickets even though they cost twice as much as a four-day w/Preview Night badge?  They allow you to go ahead of the regular lines for panels.

What about something similar to New York Comic Con with the Ultimate Access VIP tickets even though they cost twice as much as a four-day w/Preview Night badge?  They allow you to go ahead of the regular lines for panels.

The problem with this is twofold.

1)  CCI does not want to sell VIP badges. It's the same reason they want to keep badge prices down. They want the con to be equally accessible to everyone.
2)  These badges would sell out in about 2 seconds, and then people would complain that they couldn't get them.

This is true, but it would significantly limit the *number* of people lining up. Many people do not care if they are in the front section(s), if it saves them hours of waiting in line. They just want to be in the room. I think this is the majority of Hall H attendees. If they knew they were guaranteed to be in the room, they would line up much later, and maybe not even camp overnight.

The best idea i've heard so far is the random starting point in line.  Maybe let the first 500 people line up (so the die-hards can't complain that they get their front row seats) and after that choose a random point in line that's where the line "starts."

Something similar to that was done when I was in Phoenix in 2001 and was in line at the stadium box office to purchase tickets to the 2001 World Series between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the New York Yankees.  We were each given a numbered wristband.  If I remember correctly, I think it was something like 1 to 1,000.  Then a random number was drawn.  Whomever's number was drawn would be the first in line and would go up from there.  My number was roughly a hundred above the drawn number meaning I was the 100th person in line to buy tickets regardless of when I showed up or where in line I was when I first showed up before the wristbands were given out.  This was to give everybody a fair chance as opposed to the first-come first-served system.  All of the people who were at the front of the line were homeless people hired by scalpers to purchase tickets for the scalpers.  Obviously none of those people were there to see the game, there were just there for money and a meal ticket.  They were audibly laughing and gloating at us not foreseeing what was really going to happen.  They tried to screw us but in the end they got screwed.

The problem is although this might work for multi-day attendees that can spend Friday and/or Sat in Hall H all day and still go through the exhibit hall on the other days - those that are only able to attend on either Friday or Sat (one day attendees) would not be able to do Hall H and still get some exhibit floor time that same day.

Well, looks like I was wrong! http://deadline.com/2015/06/heroes-reborn-comic-con-1201445711/

Heroes Reborn will fill that empty 1:45-2:45pm slot on Sunday in Hall H we were wondering about, and there will be no pilot screening. Boo.
We now have the complete Sunday Hall H schedule. How do you guys think that affects the line for Sunday? Before, I would have said you'd be able to just walk in all day. Do you think this changes things?

Oh, also, now that we know The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead will be 12:00-2:00pm, we can get back to speculating about the timing of Star Wars in Hall H on Friday. I would guess that Since TWD has their traditional time slot, we can assume that Game of Thrones will have their traditional slot that follows TWD, so probably 2:15-3:15pm. It's still possible that Star Wars could be before TWD, though the timing is a little weird. It would probably be a one hour panel, so that would put it at 10:45-11:45am if it immediately preceded TWD. Sounds like an odd time for a first panel of the day. And usually the earliest panels will start is 10am. I guess they could do SW 10am-11am, then either do some sort of Sneak Peek 30 min panel like they did last year, or Trailer Park, that could go 11:15-11:45am. I really hope it's not later in the day...

Star Wars should be either the first panel of the day or the panel before kevin smith if kevin is on Friday again this year which I'm assuming he is since WB is Saturday night. I am hoping it will be the first panel

This pic comes from a friend of mine: it's scoring for STAR WARS: FORCE AWAKENS going on this week in LA. Can't spoil anything, but just maybe there was something recorded for footage to be shown at a certain panel...
(note, the first recording session happened the weekend before the first teaser dropped at SWCA so it takes literally four days from recording-mixing-released to the public)

He is also VERY infamous for not wanting to talk about Star Wars at all.  The experience pretty much ruined his life, as he got teased mercilessly in school (he had to move/change schools after the movie came out), and rarely attends any Star Wars related stuff.  If he does an interview (which he rarely does) and the interviewer tries to get cute with Star Wars stuff he KILLS them verbally!  He does a lot of behind-the-camera work now-a-days, and until this car chase seemed to be a fairly adjusted adult.  But man: if you see him at a convention or something do NOT yell out "yipee" or "this is pod racing" or "may the force be with you" or something unless you want to get a verbal slap down!

I was with many, who did not generally care too much for the prequels in general, and Jake Lloyd's acting specifically.  But after reading about all of the negative junk from his side, I totally sympathize with him and constantly remember, "we're talking about silly movies that are made mostly for kids (Jedi & the sequels especially) & it's not worth teasing anyone over"

Also, if nothing more Lloyd was just a kid, and Lucas is clearly AWFUL at directing actors/getting good performances.  I think he's the ONLY director that has made Natalie Portman look like a terrible actress, and that even includes her being on freaking Saturday Night Live!

You'll have to choose one or the other. Even if the pan isn't til the end of the day I highly doubt you'll get in if you go in line after the breakfast.

Unless you are referring to which stars would be present at the breakfast......then no idea.

Interesting point... anyone attending the breakfast can't be in Hall H that day... wonder if there will be a bunch of no-shows at the breakfast?

If the panel is later in the day then they can do both. And since both are the same day that's u be the case. :/

Still hoping the Star Wars pan is the first panel of the day. :p

I disagree. If the SW panel is late in the day then people will need to get into Hall H and sit there all day.

I meant the cast can do both. Yah there's no way a comic con attendee can do both regardless. This talk is getting confusing. :p

I have a prediction. Everyone will assume Hall H is impossible to get into on Friday, and go do other stuff. Hall H will therefore be a walk-in.  Sounds probable, right?  Right??    ;)

While there's always a chance the Star Wars panel will be first and then half the room can clear out, I just have a feeling Star Wars will be one of the final panels of the day and no one will leave the Hall all day.

I'm not sure about that -- there are probably benefits to getting the publicity in as part of the business day on the east coast.  For instance, when the last trailer came out, Disney's stock went up 1% (or $2 billion) that afternoon.  If the panel is late in the day, it won't see a bump until the following Monday, after the DC panel and who knows what else might happen.

Don't think they really care about that 'that' much. I'm sure Disney gets a huge draw with marvel panels too and those are usually on Saturday.

Hey folks,

Just wondering if hanging out in line on Thursday afternoon for Friday's Hall H sounds reasonable? I camped out last year on Thursday around 6:00pm for Sails Pavillion of Friday morning to get Game of Thrones autographs. I was thinking I would do the same thing but for Hall H this year. This would be my third year at SDCC, but only the first where my friends and I will be attempting Hall H (for Star Wars, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead).

I think you should definitely be fine to get into the Hall if you start at that time... by the way, were you able to score GoT autographs? I've always wanted to try the autograph lines but the lottery thing puts me off a bit to the idea...

Yes, we definitely scored autographs and it felt so very worth it. We've attempted it three times and we've got autographs for each time (Arrow, Game of Thrones, True Blood). The lottery method seems to be pretty fair for the first big group in line, I think they put the winning tickets on top of the baskets to not disappoint the all night campers. That being said, we have seen about 2-3 people pull a losing ticket, so there's always that chance. It's seems very low in my opinion, and WB handles their autograph line very smoothly.

I've heard horror stories of The Walking Dead autograph line on the exhibit floor handled by AMC, where people have tried for 3 years in a row for those autographs and failed each time. The majority of the tickets are losing, and they toss the losers back in the basket over there. This doesn't happen in the WB line. We've got autographs every single time and there's always great choices.

Having Star Wars at the end of the day is good for no one. For the people who want to see the panels before: you're battling people who are camping out for Star Wars in the afternoon. For the people who are in Hall H to see Star Wars: you waste your day in line/in the Hall instead of enjoying the rest of the Star Wars activities that day.

Worst decision ever. It needs to be first thing because it's the one everyone wants to go to. At least it would give more of a chance for people to get into GoT and WD if the room clears a little.

Well, this is the worst possible news I could've gotten. I may have to reconsider my priorities since I really don't care about the rest of Hall H that day. I do like GoT but it's not really a must-see.  At least with the insanity that was the Marvel line last year you also had WB, Legendary, and then DC TV afterwards.

The only people happy about this are possibly those people on the floor, as this will guarantee that Hall H will be packed with 7,000 people all day long (so none of those people will make it to the floor that day and maybe even the end of the day on Thursday, yuck).

Yeah I think at this point they're doing this on purpose, scheduling the most popular panels at the end of the day. They're probably trying to spread out the attendees to ensure less lines for other rooms and less crowding in the exhibit hall.

I'm not saying there will be a lot, but I do think some TWD and GoT fans will leave after their panels and open up some room for people to still get in the Hall.  Of course that still probably means a long wait in line outside for much of the day Friday just hoping you can get in.

I do believe CCI/the studios do this on purpose, but not just to relieve congestion. To them, the late day panels are probably just to build the hype leading up to the prime time spot, which will end the day with a bang and leave a lasting impression

Depends what they do about unofficial lines and enforcing rules.  If there's a long line because of Doctor Who, there may not be much space for an official line to start before that panel starts.  I guess it's when the sidewalk in front of the Hilton is clear.

theres gonna be people milling around the area for the official unofficial line to start if they don't allow one to start yet. Twilight fans were camping out on sunday before con and star wars  fans are more die hard than they are.

I'm hoping CCI will enforce their line policy this year but I'm braced for it to be the same as the Hall H line on Friday (for Saturday) last year.

But I agree with the above commenters that there's probably not going to be space for CCI to even sanction an unofficial official line until after they clear out Hunger Games and let people in for Doctor Who. For Twilight, there was no other lines to contend with since it was on Thursday so it wasn't difficult for people to line up days ahead of time.

When you have a big panel like Doctor Who, the line could easily stretch back onto the sidewalk with people hoping the room empties enough after Hunger Games.

And, with all this panic, remember that if your goal is to just get in the room, you could hold off on getting in line much longer.

I'm not a Hall H'er (gasp!!) but I can say I feel HORRIBLE for everyone. It really is the worst choice all the way around. I would love to hear their reasoning. We can't necessarily blame CCI for the knucklehead move. It could be the time conflict with the talent. I know there are many moving parts to make this all work and you never know, CCI could be doing the head shake and the V8 slap.

A thought that ran through my brain, this may completely turn off some people who don't want to spend their whole Friday in Hall H waiting for SW, so they will either go to the floor or to other panels that they were thinking about going to in the first place. From the sounds of it, I don't think I'll be getting into Ash vs Evil Dead either......that seems to be a big deal. Dang it!

For those camping out for Friday, how early are you showing up? Will this be like Twilight and people get there days in advance or just the day before around 5:30pm?

Hall H tip:

Generally, on the forums, we don't mention specific times for when you plan to start lining up for Hall H. The thing about lining up is that it's best NOT to mention what time you will be lining up, especially on public areas such as forum communities, twitter, or facebook.  If you do, others will see it, panic about lines, and then go earlier and earlier than that.  (You might have noticed that no one really has mentioned anything about timing for lines because of this.)

At the moment, going with your best judgement (and then scoping out what the lines look like the night before) is the best advice that I can offer.

The breakfast isn't put on by Lucasfilm or anyone from Disney.  Roughly, just SW fans having breakfast and enjoying a raffle!

Just my opinion here, but seeing as how CCI has said in the past Marvel requested their late Saturday time slot, I would not be surprised if Lucasfilm/Disney requested a later time, leaving CCI with little choice.

Again.... no proof of this, just wanted to point out it's what Marvel/Disney has done in the past

Also, thanks for your sympathy!  I've got friends who have gone to hall h every Fri/Sat for the past 10 years.  This will be my first time, but I'll probably be joining them.

I heard somewhere (don't remember where) that the San Diego Symphony only got 48 hours notice of this.

I saw this on FB:

http://www.kpbs.org/news/2015/jul/14/behind-scenes-symphonys-surprise-star-wars-concert/?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social-media&utm_campaign=kpbs-facebook

The most-buzzed about event at Comic-Con included a surprise Star Wars concert performed by the San Diego Symphony in front of 7,000 fans waving light sabers.

But making it all happen meant keeping the plans top secret. The musicians didn’t know what was happening until just two days before the Friday concert.

“And in fact they had to read a statement and agree that they weren’t going to tell their mother, their aunt, their grandmother or their kids,” said Martha Gilmer, CEO of the symphony.

Security guards were positioned at the union rehearsal hall where the musicians practiced, keeping everyone out.

Walt Disney Pictures is producing “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which will be the first film in the third Star Wars trilogy. They did all of the planning and wanted a big reveal. Disney acquired Lucasfilm in October of 2012.

During the Comic-Con panel for the new film, director J.J. Abrams asked the fans in Hall H: “Who wants to go see a live Star Wars concert right now?”

He then directed everyone to follow the Stormtroopers assembled onstage. In a surprising logistical feat, all 7,000 fans marched from the convention center to the Embarcadero Marina Park South to hear the San Diego Symphony perform a free concert of award-winning composer John Williams’ Star Wars music.

Fans were also given a light saber in their color of choice.

But so were the musicians. When they arrived on stage, they found light sabers on their chairs. It took an hour-and-a-half for the crowd to assemble in a venue that usually holds 2,500.

“It was exciting to be on the stage and watch them all arrive,” Gilmer said. Many of the musicians were taking pictures of the audience and the audience took pictures of the musicians. It was pretty great.”

“As you kept seeing more people arrive, I kept thinking well that must be the end,” Gilmer said. “Then a whole new wave would come.”

Williams appeared on video to welcome the crowd and say: “The music tonight will be performed by one of my favorite orchestras, the San Diego Symphony.”

The concert was led by the orchestra’s new assistant conductor, Sameer Patel. Clips from past Star Wars films were shown on a jumbotron interspersed with close-ups of the performing musicians.

Ben Jaber is the principal horn player in the Symphony. He had a solo during one of the pieces.

“You know when the crowd saw a big scene or heard something they recognized, they would just go crazy,” Jaber said. “And one of those times happened to be when my head popped up on the Jumbotron. I saw it out of the corner of my eye, but I just tried to focus.”

Jaber said that kind of crowd response, with light sabers waving, is obviously not what the Symphony is used to.

“It was definitely the biggest group I’ve ever played for in one sitting,” Jaber said.

The concert concluded with fireworks timed to the Symphony’s performance.

“It went so viral,” Gilmer said.

“So now the San Diego Symphony will be forever connected with this incredible event.”
