Last night I received an "official" confirmation from Hotel Solamar. I got a different confirmation from them when OnPeak transferred all the information over.

So I decided to give the hotel another call this morning just to see how the deposit situation was coming along and it looks like the deposit I made with OnPeak is now showing in their system. It looks like it is just taking time for all the deposits to go through to the hotels for whatever reason.

What is the earliest time that you've checked-in during comic-con from your experience? I am sure hotels will let check-ins earlier than usual, especially since it's comic-con, but I might arrive super early, like 6AM early. :) So I am not sure if they'll let me check-in...

I guess it never hurts to ask :) We've sometimes been able to check in an hour or two before the "official" time.

at the MMM last year we checked in at noon on Wednesday, to me i would think that is the earliest you might be able to check in on Wednesday, i couldn't see checking in before noon myself.

We checked in before noon once at MMM. I don't think it was much earlier, probably 11:30 or so, maybe even a little earlier.

When you check out, they have been good about giving away extras. I've gotten full sets the last couple of years.

Are you saying to try to score a whole set from Bayfront, a whole set from Hard Rock, etc.? That would be ambitious, but cool. Otherwise, every hotel has a complete set of the different cards. Most hotels have a lot left over that they're happy to get rid of after the Con.

So, generally you can check-in, any time, of the day you start your reservation. I've checked in at 5:00 AM, my friends who were also doing the Bayfront, did it at like 2:00AM. Now, it's a completely separate thing as to whether your room will be ready when you check in. The year I checked into the Bayfront at 5AM (and friends 2AM) on Thursday, they didn't have the room ready, of course, so they gave me a call when it was ready around 12:00PM. My reasoning behind that was, I was going to be in Hall H most of the day and wouldn't be able to check-in. My friends would be elsewhere all day for other panels, and I wanted to get a request (which had a waiting list for it) into the system to see if it would go through.

Other years, we generally check-in around 9am because we're not in a rush on Thursday. Since we're on a Thursday each year, usually, they're generally fully booked and the past three years, they already have the room ready. I imagine because a lot of people aren't changing rooms, or if they are they're checking out earlier to move to a different hotel so they can prep the rooms earlier. Last year we checked in at about 9-9:30AM and they had a room available immediately. So we went ahead and took the perishable items up, while they brought up the refrigerator, etc.

So, basically, check-in whenever you want the day your reservation starts, just be prepared to be told your room isn't ready yet and give them a number to call when it is. They will generally give you (at least at the Bayfront, I've never checked in super early anywhere else for SDCC) your room keys in advance because they'll be able to tie them remotely to the room. That way, you won't have to go back to the Front Desk and you can go straight to your room, which was nice.

I've checked in at the Omni around 10 am before. Some years they've had a room ready immediately and others I've had to wait a bit.

Check with your hotel about early check-in! Last year I was able to get started at the Westin a little before noon. I think it just depends on how quickly the check-outs for the day depart.

If they can't check you in immediately, you can likely leave your luggage with the front desk and explore a little while you wait for their call.

As far as the key cards go, mine kept demagnetizing, so I just *had* to get a new card a couple of times. Just the worst.  ;)

Thank you for all your inputs about checking-in early! Appreciate it very much. This is my first time going to comic-con (after yearssss of trying) and this forum really helped me a lot.  :)
