Texas has a few good ones
Fan Expo Dallas (May 3-5, 2019) - Dallas Convention Center

Dallas Fan Days (October 18 - 20 2019) - Irving Convention Center

LoginWe used to go before Fan Expo acquired it. It was a fun smaller con with decent guests. A nice location in Irving instead of downtown Dallas. A cool area with a small concert venue and restaurant area nearby.
Comicpalooza (May 10-12, 2019) - George R Brown Convention Center, Houston

LoginI love this con, and wish people wouldn't complain about the guest list. There is much more to this one than celebrity guests. A lot of great panels (NASA panels, FBI panels, Comics related panels, etc.) And I think they have a decent guest list. We go every year. It's in a nice area with plenty of food choices, and even some varied food choices in the convention center.
ATX Television Festival (June 6-9, 2019) - Downtown Austin

LoginThis one is not your typical con. It truly is a celebration of television - all genres, not just Sci Fi/Comic Book properties. There are screenings held at Alamo Drafthouse downtown, and the Paramount Theater, and an outdoors event on Friday night, too (used to be Friday Night Lights, but it does vary) Panels are held at various locations (mostly a the host hotel Stephen F Austin). They are very specific topics that dive deep into the behind the scenes of television (e.g. this year: Casting Anthologies presented by the Casting Society of America) I do highly recommend this one if you are a television fan
MondoCon (September 14 & 15, 2019) Palmer Events Center - Austin
Not really a destination con unless you are a big fan of Mondo. I do know that people come from around the country for it. They have just one panel room, but the panels are interesting. The exclusives are pretty intense, but we mostly go for the panels and exhibit floor (it is smallish, but has really good artists/vendors). It's local for us, so another reason that we go.
There are others - a couple of well respected Anime Cons (Anime Matsuri, A-Kon, and others). I am sure I am missing a few. The above are the ones that I have been to.
For another state - Georgia - there is Dragon Con Memorial Day weekend. It's a whole other state of mind! I adore this con. It's downtown Atlanta in 5 hotels. Getting a host hotel is tricky, but you can get an overflow hotel reasonably easily. There are so many diverse panels and celebrity appearances, and parties.
Wow-I had a lot to say!
