After talking with folks at our Hosting service, we think the problem originated with the data base. They were not able to view the logs but timing of errors seem to indicate the DB.
We will be keeping an eye on the DB in the future when problems come up. Hopefully there will be logs which will indicate the problem and therefore the solution.
