In the same vein as "What was your forum username inspired by?", we have "How'd you pick your avatar?"!
Me, even though I like the movies, video games, TV shows and all that, I got started on this roller coaster ride with comic books. Growing up, the staples of my reading pleasure for the week were Marvel, DC, Epic, Valiant, and a few others, but the bulk of my reading came from the Marvel side. It's kinda hard not to empathize with Peter Parker when you're growing up geek as well, ya know? Anyways, the Captain America avatar I have is the photo of the distressed t-shirt that I own, and it's made out of that really thin, comfortable cotton. Got it 2 SDCC's ago, and will be wearing it again at this year's. Then again, who won't be wearing something of the like that week?
Let's hear it folks! How'd you get yours?
- M

It was from SDCC 2012. Resident Evil was doing a thing where you tweeted a pic of yourself with one of the body parts wrapped up, and you kept the body part and got a t-shirt. They were walking around the Gaslamp doing it.
For over a thousand generations, the Comic Con Nerds were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times... before the Twilhearts
-
Mine is a drawing of me in costume that was done by Yos**taka Amano at SDCC a few years ago.
-
Mine is me with one of my favorite cosplays from last year-the cassette tape of Summertime from the "That's My Jam" episode of Regular Show (we were in line for the Regular Show panel at the time). That cosplay really made me smile. It was one of my favorite moments from last year, so I figured it would make a great avatar for this forum.
-
Mine is a freeze frame from a time I was on TV. I picked b/c at the time I set up my profile I was on a computer with very few pics of me on it. This is my reminder that it sucks as an avatar and I need to change it!
-
OK, changed! It's now me from the Yahoo! Movies off-site a couple of years ago where they took your picture with movie props. I'm in the Total Recall chair.
-
Just me as myself, a geek. Massive flash so I look like I'm related to Voldermort.
-
I am the eye of Sauron! (With palm trees)
-
I just like Firefly.
-
It's me.
Bloody handsome yes? ;)

Daaaaaaammmmmn! Ouch! :)
Um, I didn't quite mean it that way. Only that we couldn't see the rest of his face. The pic is mostly his forehead.
-
Mines is myself with Kirkman signing my Xbox faceplate. He wrote "Playstation is better, Robert Kirkman".
-
Mine is Hikaru Ichijo / Rick Hunter from SDF: Macross / Robotech. The show that started it all for me.
-
My avy is a pic of my gf with a giant display of cool looking spongebob from sdcc 2013.
-
It's been 3 days and no one has ooooooo'ed and aaaaaaaahh'ed about my fancy new avatar.

Mine is the Entertainment Weekly cover with Matt Smith and a Cyberman - how awesome. New one came today so I might update soon....might.
-
Forgot I had this...cover shoot for Spider-Man #1 :)
Actually, this is the picture you got when you were at Universal Studios in Florida to take a picture w/a Marvel superhero.
That's me, next to Spider-Man, you know, in case you got the two of us confused...
-
saw the ending to The Dark Knight Rises immediately thought of this scene from the Adam West batman trying to dispose of a bomb.
-
Chris C, I think your new avatar is watching me...
-
It's me from Thursday.
-
I have been a fan of Rocket Raccoon since the 80s mini series which was drawn by Mike Mignola. Now GotG is out and I'm seeing today! Woot!
-
Chris C, I think your new avatar is watching me...
The Moderators are always watching! Mwahahahahahhahah!

Maybe you should have been Roz then.
I'm watching you... Always watching...

-
The Moderators are always watching! Mwahahahahahhahah!
I concur with this. We're always watching. ;p
Hm, how did I select my forum avatar? It's a silhouette of a character I happen to like. (Which one, you ask? Ah, that would make it too easy, ha ha.)
-
Hmmm. Mine have been wildlife photos I took. Kinda boring. Guess I need to give it some more thought.
-
It's me. Taking selfies when I should have been studying.
-
Tom Mison from Sleepy Hollow and myself. Because, well, he's hot and nice.
-
My current avatar (and sig) is Shinsuke Nakamura...King of Strong Style, reigning IWGP Intercontinental Champion, the apotheosis of cool and arguably the baddest pro-wrestler on the planet today.
-
I drew mine.
I'm very proud of it cuz it was a 15 second doodle.
-
Mine is a drawing of me in costume that was done by Yos**taka Amano at SDCC a few years ago.

I don't remember at the time. I think I set up a member account while at work and it was the best pic I had on the computer at the time. Plus I like Sherlock in all forms.
Sent from my LG3G

Just did my introduction post, figure this should be next. It's from last 4th of July, mint julep in a Captain America glass. ^-^
-
Mine is the cover from X-Men #1 (Vol. 4 2013) because I love the X-Men, the X-Women in particular. Also it's the wallpaper of my phone.
-
I love corgis. I wanted to get one ever since I saw Ein in the anime Cowboy Bebop.
I was born in the early 80's so I love all the tv shows, cartoons and movies from that era (GI Joe).
My last name is Koh, so I've always loved inserting it into my screen names (Kohmando, Kohbra, Kohpacetic, Kohlossus, PsyKoh)
I love mash-ups, thus Corgi Kohmander was born.
The avatar was done by my aunt who used an actual picture of my corgi, Lexx (named after Lex Luthor). Two X's to be unique.
-
I picked the avatar of me posing in St. Petersburg, Russia because that trip is a once in a lifetime event for me.
-
Joker is probably my favorite character in all of fiction, Tim Burton's Batman is still my favorite Batman movie, and I'm a big fan of Jack Nicholson.
-
A combo of laziness and love of Bruce Campbell.

BECAUSE DRAGONS
Um, given your name, if you wanted a GoT avatar, shouldn't you have gone more with something like this?

Cause I'm hungry all the time. Feed me!

I figured I'd give this one a shot for a little while. But aside from cosplaying and various pop culture fandoms, one of my hobbies is fursuiting! Photography and simply having fun as a character are big reasons as to why :) I know the fandom around it seems to carry some false stereotypes, but for me it's always been about harmless costuming fun :D

It does look like a lot of fun, Epicaz! IMHO, it's no different from people who wear other full body cosplays.
How do you keep cool in a suit like that?

That was always my opinion as well. In fact, I had a lot of cosplay ideas that would have been much better suited in this style, if I had the talent to back it up! ;)
Keeping cool isn't always easy unless it happens to be 40F outside. I always use Heatgear Under Armor with plenty of water breaks, though there are other options such as cooling vests or installed fans. Definitely something you have to build endurance on, but even so... I don't think I could make it for long in a San Diego summer :P

I recently changed mine to a picture of me. I'm hoping this isn't a mistake, but I thought I'm already out there on FB and such, and I might as well make it easy for people to know who I am at meet ups.
Before I used photos of wild animals in my yard. Just cuz I liked them.

I'm sure it won't be a problem at all, after all you're among FoCCI friends and family here. It's great to see a familiar face! :D

Mine is a pic of me that my friend took while we were on the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in Sept. 2015. I had flown out to LA (where she lives) and we were attending a taping of our favorite show, The Big Bang Theory, together. We went on the tour the weekend before the show taping and since it was a Sunday & the studios weren't in use, our guide noticed our Bazinga shirts and took us to the building where they tape the show and let us go in. No pics are allowed inside, but we stopped outside to take pics with the parking spots where the cast/writers park right outside the building where they shoot.

Well, I just read Watchmen for the first time and I really enjoyed it. Rorschach was my favorite character from it and I'm make a Rorschach costume for my first SDCC this year so I thought it was appropriate. :P

A combo of laziness and love of Bruce Campbell.
LOL Sort of how I picked my but it was the first one that popped up that I'm a fan of. Then I made this one so you didn't have to change yours :)
-
Every time this thread pops up, I realize that I've forgotten to change my avatar... Again... Every time... :)
-
Again, everytime you say it, it means I'm even later :)
Time to start thinking...

Ha! The miracle of PhotoShop. :)
Edit: Updated mine. Took me forever to get it to show right side up.
I'm very proud of this drawing as I drew it from a Jim Lee YouTube video and I am not the best drawer in the world.

Switched! This one's a character of one of my fave marvel series by Bill Mantlo, Michael Golden called the Micronauts - Acroyear. Great series (based off of a set of toys) that I think really is the best (even as various other publishers have tried to reboot it a number of times).

It is a really neat drawing!
-
I like black cats ( had one as a child) and well.... he's wearing Darth Vader's helmet :P
-
It was the only photo saved on my work computer when I joined. For the life of me I can't remember why I had downloaded it.
-
I changed mine to a photo of me so people would know me at meet-ups.
-
It seemed the most appropriate given the type of forum and it always brings warm fuzzies since that was a really great SDCC for me.
-
Mine is my dog because she is awesome and I love her.

Mine is a War Machine (Iron Man) helmet I started making a few years back out of paper. It's called pepakura which apparently means paper craft/model. You basically take a 3D model of something and export it down to a flat constructable paper (and tabs) which you can then cut out and build into your own model. The more detail you want, the more complicated it gets (i.e. more pieces and more gluing). It took me 9+ hours just to cut out all the pieces. After that, I glued it all together (used a hot glue gun) which took quite some time, as well. I put one coat of epoxy on it to harden it up a bit and that's where I stopped. I always tell myself I need to finish it, but never have the time to do it. So, it sits in my garage waiting for me to be motivated and confident enough to finish it and dare to wear it at Comic-Con.
-
My avatar is a picture of Daredevil! He's currently my favorite marvel character ;D
-
My current avatar I ripped years ago from Marvel's "Stage 3" mega-announcement at Disney's El Capitan theater. It was timely and I just never switched it out. My Doscord account that I use for my Comic-Con line/buying-group is a picture of a Simpsons Hallmark ornament I got at Comic-Con one year of Comic Book Guy in a t-shirt that says "Worst Con Ever." Someday I might switch my avatar here to that when I'm motivated enough (pic here: https://www.hookedonhallmark.com/2011-SDCC-Comic-Book-Guy_p_33171.html)
