WAYNE, NJ – March 15, 2018 – Toys“R”Us, Inc. today announced that it has filed a motion seeking Bankruptcy Court approval to begin the process of conducting an orderly wind-down of its U.S. business and liquidation of inventory in all 735 of the Company’s U.S. stores, including stores in Puerto Rico. Toys“R”Us will provide more details about the plans for the liquidation of its U.S. stores and going out of business sales in the near term.

Toys“R”Us also announced that it is pursuing a going concern reorganization and a sale process for its Canadian and international operations in Asia and Central Europe, including Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The Company’s international operations in Australia, France, Poland, Portugal and Spain are considering their options in light of this announcement, including potential sale processes in their respective markets. The Company’s stores in all these international markets are currently open and serving customers.

In connection with the sale process, the motion the Company filed with the Bankruptcy Court included bidding procedures for the Canadian operations. The Company also disclosed that it is engaged in discussions with certain interested parties for a transaction that could combine up to 200 of the top performing U.S. stores with its Canadian operations. While discussions continue on this potential transaction, Toys“R”Us is seeking court approval to implement the liquidation of inventory in all the U.S. stores, subject to a right to recall any stores included in the proposed Canadian transaction.

The previously announced administration of the UK business continues.

Dave Brandon, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, “I am very disappointed with the result, but we no longer have the financial support to continue the Company’s U.S. operations. We are therefore implementing an orderly process to shutter our U.S. operations and will pursue going concern sales or reorganizations of certain of our international businesses, while our other international businesses consider their options.”

Brandon continued, “There are many people and organizations who have remained in our corner every step along the way. I want to thank our extraordinary team members who helped build Toys“R”Us into a global brand. I also want to express my appreciation for my colleagues on our board who have continued to provide support to sustain the brand and our operations throughout the restructuring process. I would also like to thank our vendors who we owe a great deal of gratitude to for their decades of support. This is a profoundly sad day for us as well as the millions of kids and families who we have served for the past 70 years.”

The Company and its advisors are working to minimize the impact of the U.S. liquidation on the Canadian and other international markets. As part of these efforts, the Company is implementing a transition services arrangement for the next 60 days and is developing plans for a potential shared service function to support the international operations going forward.

Additional information regarding the Company’s restructuring process can be obtained by calling the Company’s Information Hotline, toll-free in the U.S. and Canada at (844) 794-3476, or sending an email to [email protected]. Court filings and other documents related to the court-supervised process in the U.S. are available on a separate website administered by the Company’s claims agent, Prime Clerk, at https://cases.primeclerk.com/toysrus.

Kirkland & Ellis LLP is serving as principal legal counsel to Toys“R”Us, Alvarez & Marsal is serving as restructuring advisor and Lazard is serving as financial advisor.

Passed on the Funko.

https://uw.usatoday.com/story/money/2018/03/15/toys-r-us-gift-cards/427268002/

"The best advice: Spend them immediately, if possible.

Make haste because after the big-box icon of American retail said Thursday that it would close all of its U.S. stores, there's not much time left.

The chain plans to honor gift cards for the next 30 days, Toys R Us spokesperson Taylor O'Donnell told USA TODAY on Thursday in an email."

"Update: Though it was widely reported that Toys ‘R’ Us’ liquidation sales were slated to begin today, multiple people were met with signs stating that that’s not the case because the actual date of the sales has not yet been settled. When I spoke with multiple Toys “R” Us associates at various stores today, they gave me similar responses suggesting that while the sales might not begin today they are still supposed to be happening at some point."

Yea, i read stuff online and see news of it and they are trying to find any buyers to run any of the stores by chance and close any no one wants any at time. stuff wont be that cheap that fast i have read and seeing we in days of ebay lol be alot of reasalers i guess clearing all they can to resale and profit any if they think it worth doing at time. i may be wrong but that just how i see things now days. i see stuff posted for cheap at place on here but where i live i dont think many around are flippers unless certain stuff they see they cause profit from over nite cause people sometimes rather buy online then go to actual store and get any and save some money by chance. so gues just gotta call store if wanna and see what they will tell u any at time.

A 25-year-old Lazarus opened Children's Bargain Town in 1948 and began selling baby furniture in Washington, D.C. The store gradually ventured into selling toys, and Lazarus opened the first Toys R Us in 1957.

Lazarus chose the iconic backward "R" to mimic the handwriting of children.

Lazarus took the company public in 1978 and built a brand that left an impression on generations of "Toys R Us kids." Lazarus stepped away as chairman and CEO in 1994.

I was thinking of checking the store close to me but knowing i not been to one since i used to work at one lol, all i can see is hi price stuff if any and resalers filling carts to charge more for it then at a store really. seeing how we in world of greed and ebay in ways, i no fan of flippers who wanna charge more then what somehting is really worth. i been through a store closing before and it can be nuts cause traffic wanna get stuff as cheap as possible cause those try get rid of stuff are just pushing it out door and get as much as they can for what they do. i may check later just for fun of it and see how empty the place is by chance if still open , then can go other places so not a wasted day really.

Sux how by chance the one who discover the brand passed and all. im sure will still have the ads and tune in our minds anytime we check u tube by chance. how many toy stores are there really anymore. now it all just clumped with everything else, so one stop shopping now days.

I just haven’t been able to bring myself to visit the local TRU this past week.

However, favorite TRU memories as mentioned in the start of the thread, I definitely can do.   Up until I moved away 3 years ago, there was a location here in the Los Angeles area that opened up in late ‘96 and by estimation, I’ve visited at least 500 times and spent a countless amount of money there.    My best experience would be from what some would consider the golden age of Star Wars figure collecting (late 90’s to 2005) and befriending so many of the fellow collectors that frequented that store.   The fandom was so different back then, so incredibly different!

I also attended the episode one midnight madness there and will cherish so many memories of shopping at that store.

When the store close to me closes, then there will really be no toy stores in town to check out any even though i never went to since i was let go from job years back. only recent i got toys like lego cause of a posting on forum of them at 99 cent store lol so i guess i splurged or spent to get some cause wasnt sure if ever get any later if traffic found them and just cleared shelf to resale and profit etc. so yea it sux a classic toy store closing :( , kinda like comic shops we had around area closed overtime for whatever reason reason. but happy i have checked out any i can get to and know which ones like most really and what to expect when get to any .

We went yesterday. Everything I was looking at was 10% off (except Lego-those were 5%). Everything was somewhat picked over. The WB Mystery Minis were all gone. It was very sad, we visited TRU at least once a month, sometimes more. There are some local toy stores, and my local comic shop (Titan Moon Comics) has a great supply of action figures and Funko, so I guess they will be my go to.

I picked up the Funko TRU exclusive Cthulhu plush, a Marvel comics calendar, and a couple of Lego sets (the $10ish sets with two mini-figures). We may go back again when the savings go up to see what's left, but who knows.

Not sure when they expect to have all inventory sold since im sure they wont get any more trucks since they are closing. guessing all the reall good stuf be gone before they really are closed since that start slow and as said 10 percent off and it goes higher ea week since i read they start retail value and then discount from that so even if i tried to check store i have no clue what be left lol. i can hope for something but no rush if next week be like only 2o or 3o percent off by chance. so really wont know till i check and see what gems if any are left lol.

I thinking of going and checking to see what is left and how cheap it is really if at all. i was told they had trucks come in cause was trying to empty warehouses of boxes where companies send their stuff to for drivers to take to stores and fill shelves. i have told a buddy i can try check and just be open to what might be left do to how cheap stuff might be and hope resalers dont try like buy it all cause just resale for profit and all. i know there are more then resalers like reg traffic not mind having some new to enjoy and not have to go elsewhere or pay alot just cause off ebay any. so later check what i can or go elsewhere so day not a total loss.

The real sad part is i not sure there any toy stores around any more , so they are just sold in reg stores at different prices or online by chance. it gonna affect the major makers cause have less places to sale to and they be fighting over what to charge and how much be ordered at anytime. we all on budgets, so guessing we all wont pay crazy hi prices for toys now days unless reason u want it bad.

VAN NUYS, Calif., April 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Isaac Larian, CEO of MGA Entertainment, Inc. (MGAE), one of the world's leading privately held toy and entertainment companies and creator of family favorite brands including Little Tikes® and L.O.L. Surprise!™, put in a formal bid of $675 million to buy both the U.S stores as well as $215 million to buy  the Toys"R"Us stores in Canada. The funds to purchase both the U.S. and Canadian stores will come from Larian's own coffers, additional investors and bank financing.

Larian recently led the biggest crowdfunding effort to date, aiming to raise $1 billion via GoFundMe in an effort to rally the community around the cause. Bid amounts were determined after careful due diligence by Larian, speaking with multiple investors and 3rd party experts. "The time is now. Everyday that goes by, the value of Toys"R"Us declines and more people lose their jobs. I did my part and now it's up to the other side to accept this offer. If they do, the real work will begin. We will make Toys"R"Us an experience in and of itself; a fun and engaging place where families can spend an entire day. Imagine a mini-Disneyland in each neighborhood," shared Larian.  The entrepreneur is putting forth his best effort to save the retailer, knowing the void it will leave if Toys"R"Us ceases to exist. "The liquidation of Toys"R"Us is going to have a long-term effect on the toy business. The industry will truly suffer. The prospect of bringing the Toys"R"Us experience to a new generation, my new grandson's generation, is enough to motivate me to Save Toys"R"Us."

Toys"R"Us is an American icon with global relevance and Larian is devoted to saving the retail chain. For over 65 years, Toys"R"Us has played a vital role in the growth, education and creative development of millions of children, giving Larian his first break when he entered the business more than 30 years ago.  MGA Entertainment's own Little Tikes brand, the maker of the famous Cozy Coup is made right here in the USA for the past 50 years. The consummate entrepreneur, Larian won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2007. Toys"R"Us is embedded in our American culture, and as Larian puts it, "There is nothing quite like the joy and awe of a child walking through the aisles of a Toys"R"Us store. I want to preserve that innocent experience for future generations." Larian believes that everyone deserves to be a Toys"R"Us kid.

Reading around and seeing how some stores are not got discount as hi as other stores by chance, alot stuff is still only 10-30 percent off reg price. so i say it gonna have to go 50 or higher to have anyone really wanna grab anything if they dont want the traffic to go anywhere else to get stuff as they do now. i never really shopped toys r us alot but have learned they cost more then the competition around and online. so they only hurt themselves by not trying to sale stuff a few bucks cheaper then as every says- target, walmart and anywhere else.

It may take some time unless they can get traffic to buy anything since it was all at reg price but on sale some stuff but still wasnt cheap enough to get me to grab anything at time. so unless anyone cant wait for stuff to be cheaper then they might get some traffic to help clear shelves lol.

NORTHBROOK, Ill., May 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Toys 'R' Us® and Babies 'R' Us® announced today that it has increased its discount range on all merchandise with incredible new sales prices available through this weekend. The retailer, which is liquidating more than $2 billion of merchandise across 735 locations nationwide, has slashed prices ranging from 30 percent to 50 percent off as part of its store closing event.

Top brands, including Fisher Price, Mattel, Barbie, Hot Wheels, Carters, Graco, Disney, Star Wars, Nerf, Avent, American Girl, Playskool and more are a part of this sale.

"This liquidation event provides shoppers the opportunity to be a TRU kid one last time with notable brand names at rarely seen discounts. We encourage shoppers to get in early to take advantage of these savings and get the best merchandise before inventory sells out," said a spokesperson for the venture.

In addition, beginning Friday, May 11th stores across the United States are giving loyal shoppers the opportunity to commemorate their final Toys 'R' Us moments with a selfie banner featuring the retailer's iconic mascot Geoffrey. "Toys 'R' Us has been a renowned household name over the years and providing loyal customers the opportunity to commemorate their final moments is a great way to keep the memory of Toys 'R' Us alive. We encourage everyone to capture and share their final experiences on Toys 'R' Us' social media channels using the hashtag #alwaysatrukid," said the spokesperson.

The retailer announced plans on March 15, 2018 to shut down its operations in the United States and Puerto Rico. The joint venture is comprised of Great American Group, Tiger Capital Group, Gordon Brothers and Hilco Merchant Resources.

Im guessing if stuff was started at reg prices even if was on sale then it gonna take alot more to get anyone to buy stuff unless a resaler sees deals worth getting to resale later and charge any extra to cover what they paid for it to begin with by chance. besides cost to ship and all added to it. i may go back and check what is left but not be shocked if what i really want is already gone by chance lol. but can always check target close by and score same deals all the same lol. or be prepared and check out a movie maybe close by at time so time not wasted as i am out and about lol.

As Toys ‘R’ Us fades to black, scores of businesses are scrambling to keep it alive.

The bankrupt retailer says that interest in its intellectual property, which includes its Babies ‘R’ Us, Toys ‘R’ Us and Geoffrey trademarks, is so high that it needs more time to discuss the matter with potential bidders, according to court documents. The company says that more than 115 companies, including “major retailers,” want to buy its brands and that it has had “substantive communication with over 85 such parties.” An auction date to sell its US intellectual property was pushed back last week to Aug. 6 from Monday and the court is allowing potential bidders to acquire the company’s international property assets during the auction as well. That includes its Asia division, for which Toys ‘R’ Us has received several bids of more than $1 billion, according to the company’s lawyer. One potential bidder is former Toys ‘R’ Us Chief Executive Officer Gerald Storch, who headed the company from 2006 to 2013 and is working with several investor groups, The Post previously reported.

I think it's certain that the stores are dead.  That's not going to change.  What companies are interested in buying is the brand, the name.  That happens all the time when companies go under.  That's why Kodak, Polaroid, Circuit City and many others are still around.  The companies went out of business long ago.  But people buy the names to use on other products.  Why wouldn't they?  It takes time and capitol to get brand recognition.  Why not buy it for cheap if you can?

Went for our last trip today. It was pretty sparse, but we found a couple of cool things. It's definitely a study in what properties are over-saturating the market, or are not very popular. It was very sad though. We have been frequented that TRU since it opened. It will help my LCS, at least, as I will be going there more often for my toy fix. :)

Geoffrey, LLC’s Assets to Be Acquired by Its Secured Lenders

WAYNE, NJ – October 2, 2018 – Geoffrey, LLC, Toys “R” Us, Inc.’s intellectual property holding company subsidiary, announced today that it is moving forward with a plan for substantially all of its assets to be acquired by a group of investors led by Geoffrey, LLC’s existing secured lenders.

The announcement was made following a five month marketing effort by Boston-based Consensus, an investment bank retained to market the assets of Geoffrey, LLC, that resulted in several formal and informal proposals to acquire the intellectual property assets. After considering such proposals, it was determined that the proposal from the existing term lenders was meaningfully higher and better than any other global bid or the sum of the bids received on individual assets. The transition of the business to its new owners is pending approval of the United States Bankruptcy Court and all major creditor constituencies are supportive. Geoffrey, LLC thanks all parties that participated in discussions with the company over the prior months, particularly those that submitted proposals, for their thoughtful and diligent engagement.

Geoffrey, LLC, as reorganized, will control a portfolio of intellectual property that includes trademarks, ecommerce assets and data associated with the Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us businesses in the United States and all over the world, including a portfolio of over 20 well-known toy and baby brands such as Imaginarium, Koala Baby, Fastlane and Journey Girls. The reorganized company will own rights to the Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us brands in all markets globally, with the exception of Canada. It will also become the licensor of the brands to the company’s existing network of franchisees operating in countries across Asia, Europe and the Middle East, and in South Africa.

In addition to continuing to service these markets, the new owners are actively working with potential partners to develop ideas for new Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us stores in the United States and abroad that could bring back these iconic brands in a new and re-imagined way. Geoffrey LLC will provide additional detail on this front as it becomes available.

Tru Kids Inc. -? :o

https://nypost.com/2019/01/24/former-toys-r-us-execs-planning-potential-comeback/

Quote
A bid to bring Toys ‘R’ Us back from the dead is stirring again.

Former executives at the bankrupt toy chain — which liquidated all of its US stores last year — began actively reaching out to toy manufacturers this week to discuss a comeback plan for the brand, The Post has learned.

According to an email obtained by The Post, a new firm called Tru Kids Inc. was launched on Sunday, armed with the ownership rights to the Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us trademarks, as well as the company’s Geoffrey the Giraffe mascot.

According to the email, execs at the new company — whose new chief executive is Richard Barry, the former chief merchandiser of the iconic retailer — were looking to set up meetings at Toy Fair New York, the industry’s biggest US trade show, which begins Feb. 16.

The elbow-rubbing could get awkward, insiders said, as many suppliers have blamed some of those same executives for their losses associated with the Toys ‘R’ Us bankruptcy. Some vendors recently contacted by Tru Kids executives are weighing whether to do business with the company.

“Almost everyone at the show got burned by Toys ‘R’ Us,” one toy executive said.

Tru Kids executives just returned from Hong Kong, where toy buyers shore up their final orders for the new year, in an effort to interest retailers, including their own franchisees, in their private-label products, sources said.

While the chain’s stores liquidated nationwide last summer, a team of ex-Toys ‘R’ Us execs under Barry has been quietly collecting licensing fees and servicing the company’s overseas stores — which before the company’s 2017 Chapter 11 filing included more than 750 outlets across Canada, Western Europe and Japan.

Insiders say the skeleton crew of ex-Toys ‘R’ Us execs has been working out of the company’s old headquarters in Wayne, NJ, at One Geoffrey Way, a building that never got sold in the liquidation.

The executive team includes former legal counsel Jamie Young and other merchandising and financial executives including Matt Finnegan and Rich Ryan, the email said.

Tru Kids “will service the many Tru stores around the globe,” the email said, as well as its Geoffrey line of private label toys and its Geoffrey’s Toy Box kiosks, which were launched inside Kroger supermarkets during the holidays.

The trademarks belong to a group of hedge funds, including Solus Alternative Asset Management and Angelo Gordon. An auction was held in October to sell the brands, which served as collateral on their loans to the retailer.

At least two groups of bidders offered to buy the brands, but their offers got rejected, according to a source, who added that the lenders petitioned the court to say that they wanted to retain the assets, and they weren’t required to accept the highest bid.

Tru Kids also is interested in opening pop-up Toys ‘R’ Us stores and striking deals with other retailers like Kroger.

“They are trying to get some value from the intellectual property,” said a source.

Tru Kids did not respond to a request for comment.

Toys ‘R’ Us has officially emerged as a new company—Tru Kids Brands—with new leadership and a new retail strategy that will include an omnichannel approach and smaller footprint.

As of January 20, 2019, the new company, Tru Kids Inc., doing business as Tru Kids Brands, went into effect as the parent company of Toys ‘R’ Us, Babies ‘R’ Us, the well-loved mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe along with more than 20 established consumer toy and baby brands.

Richard Barry, the former global chief merchandising officer at Toys ‘R’ Us, will serve as president and CEO of Tru Kids Brands. An experienced management team is also in place that includes Matthew Finigan as CFO, James Young as executive vice-president of global license management and general counsel, and Jean-Daniel Gatignol as senior vice-president of global sourcing and brands. Brand management veteran Yehuda Shmidman will serve as vice chairman to advise on global strategy and execution. Shmidman is the CEO of Wave Hill Partners, and the former CEO of Sequential Brands Group.

As the realities of Q4 2018 toy sales come to light, Barry says the newly formed company is seizing this moment as an opportunity to tap into the continued strong affinity for the Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us brands. In the U.S., the brands have more than 9.5 million followers across their social media channels. In Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East, the brands generated more than $3 billion in global retail sales in 2018 across more than 900 stores and e-commerce businesses in more than 30 countries.

“As we start the year there is a lot to be excited about,” Barry says. “We have a healthy and growing global business with great partners that are 100 percent focused on opening more stores and e-commerce channels in their respective markets. We have an experienced team with unmatched industry expertise in the toy and baby space and a clear understanding post-holiday of the opportunity that still exists in the U.S. marketplace.

Looking forward, the company’s No. 1 priority will be to “solidify the U.S. retail strategy for Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us,” says Barry. “While I can’t say today what that exact strategy is, we do know that we will have an omnichannel approach that is tech immersive and experiential with a smaller footprint. I’ve spent my entire adult career working at Toys ‘R’ Us and feel proud to be a part of ensuring the next chapter of this iconic brands lives on.”

As of now, global partners include Al Futtaim Sons Co. LLC (UAE), Green Swan (Iberia), Keshet-Hypertoy Ltd (Israel), Lotte Shopping Co. Ltd (S. Korea), Marketing Services and Commercial Projects Operation Company (Saudi Arabia), Tablez & Toyz Private Ltd. (India), and Toys (Labuan) Holding Ltd. in partnership with Fung Retailing Ltd. (Asia). The company will work closely with each to expand the Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us businesses in their respective markets as well as actively seek opportunities to bring the brands to new and emerging territories.

These global partners are set to open 70 stores in 2019 in Asia, India and Europe and develop new e-commerce platforms in several key markets.

Tru Kids will be headquartered in New Jersey, just as the original company was, with a skilled team that will include returning Toys ‘R’ Us employees. Tru Kids will serve as the parent of brands including Toys ‘R’ Us, Babies ‘R’ Us, Geoffrey the Giraffe, and house brands Journey Girls, Fastlane, True Heroes, You & Me, Imaginarium, and Just Like Home.

“Despite unprecedented efforts to capture the U.S. market share this past holiday season, there is still a significant gap and huge consumer demand for the trusted experience that Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us delivers,” says Barry.

Toys ‘R’ Us announced its plans to liquidate its U.S. stores last March. Further updates on the Tru Kids Brands’ U.S. business strategy are expected to follow.

Final accounting documents filed with the bankruptcy court show the bankruptcy and liquidation of Toys ‘R’ Us was a bonanza for law firms and liquidation advisers, including a top New York law firm that was paid $56 million.

Court documents show that the judge in the case, Keith L. Phillips, and the fee examiner last week approved professional fees of $55.7 million and expenses of $1.5 million to the Kirkland & Ellis law firm, which represented Toys ‘R’ Us in the bankruptcy.

A 1,115-page fee application filed with the court in March spells out the fees in detail, listing more than 200 Kirkland & Ellis attorneys who worked on the bankruptcy. Emily Geier and Josh Sussberg were the top earners, with Geier billing $3,302,759.50 at hourly rates of $995 to $1,045, and Sussberg billing $3,112,342.50 at hourly rates of $1,395 to $1,480.

According to a tally by the New York Law Journal, 105 partners and 131 associates at Kirkland & Ellis worked on the case, and seven partners and associates billed more than $1 million each.

I have such mixed feelings about this....so many were sad when they closed, for what looked like forever. Now they are back, and hooked in with Target for online ordering. I want my 5% redcard discount!  ::)

As of this month, all Target branding, information, and product links have been removed from the Toys “R” Us website.

All purchases made through the current incarnation of toysrus.com are being made through the Amazon Associates Program.

Somewhat ironically, it was 20 years ago that Toys “R” Us made a deal with Amazon to power its e-commerce business. On Aug. 10, 2000, Amazon Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos and then-Toys “R” Us CEO John Eyler announced a 10-year pact between the two retailers.

Just four years later, the pair landed in court with Toys “R” Us suing Amazon for breach of contract. In 2006, Geoffrey and Co. ultimately prevailed against Amazon.

Now, just two years after Toys “R” Us liquidated its massive U.S. operations — and a large part of its global footprint — the company is using its site to earn commission through an affiliate program that’s open to nearly everyone.

Neither Target nor Tru Kids Brands responded to requests for comment.

NEW YORK — Toys R Us is retrenching once again. The only two Toys R Us stores that opened in November 2019 as part of a small U.S. comeback attempt by the iconic toy chain have now closed.

The Toys R Us store at the Galleria mall in Houston shuttered on Jan. 15, while one at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus, New Jersey, closed on Tuesday, according Tru Kids, a new entity formed when it acquired Toys R Us’ intellectual property during its liquidation in 2018. The moves come as physical stores, particularly mall-based locations, have been hurt by weak customer traffic amid the pandemic. The Toys R Us website is still in operation.

“As a result of COVID, we made the strategic decision to pivot our store strategy to new locations and platforms that have better traffic," Tru Kids said in an emailed statement Friday. “Consumer demand in the toy category and for Toys R Us remains strong and we will continue to invest in the channels where the customer wants to experience our brand.”

The two shuttered locations were about 6,500 square feet — about one-seventh of the size of the old Toys R U stores and emphasized hands-on experiences. Employees unwrapped toys, for instance, so that kids could try them out.

During a visit to the New Jersey store in late 2019, kids shot Nerf blasters and sat in a circle for story time while Geoffrey, the chain’s mascot, roamed around. Such experiences are now shunned at a time when shoppers have to abide by social-distancing rules. Tru Kids says that outside of the U.S., it operates Toys R Us, and Babies R Us branded stores and e-commerce sites through licensing partners in more than 25 countries in Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Bloomberg News first reported the news of the store closures.

It has been alleged that the individuals misled suppliers about the retailer’s dire financial position while it attempted to stay afloat towards the end of 2017 and early 2018.

According to multiple reports in the US media, including Bloomberg, several former Toys ‘R’ Us executives are set to stand trial over historic allegations that they misled suppliers over the retailer’s dire financial position while the company tried to stay afloat during bankruptcy proceedings towards the end of 2017. The allegations involve significant sums – potentially as much as $600m.

On Monday, US Bankruptcy Judge Keith Phillips confirmed that a trial should go forward,  ignoring a request from the former executives to throw out the creditors’ claims. The former directors and officers have all denied any wrongdoing.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's more of a showroom for some stuff where they provide free delivery to you.
