I know what I'm doing for my birthday next year already.

[member=3050]janray[/member]  pointed out that you cal already reserve the San Jose Hilton for next year. I got a AAA rate of $175 for 2 queen beds. That's better than the $175 I paid through the SVCC rate for 2 double beds this year (paid $25 per night for the queen upgrade). If SVCC comes out with better rates, I can cancel up to 1 day prior.

Thanks for the tip, Janray!

You're welcome...happy to help out.
I think these rates for a 2 queen room will be hard to beat by SVCC.

Just got an email with s survey in it.

The email included a link to buy badges for 25% off for 2018. This is good through April 30th. Unfortunately, it's only general admission 3-day badges, and not VIP badges.  :(

Saw that. Wonder if you can upgrade to VIP later? Even still, what an entirely sensible thing for them to do, I like it.

Yeah, to me, it's VIP or death. Lol Had too much fun using VIP, so it would be hard to go back to general. Oh well.

Sounds like for the VIPs here, it was obviously worth the price! I considered going VIP but ended up just getting a weekend pass and it worked fine for me...but I'm still considering it, so what benefits did you get from being VIP that made it worth the price for you?

I don't do paid autographs or photo ops, so for us it was the easy panel access. VIPs get in first, and when they were clearing rooms, VIPS didn't have to be cleared. And there were reserved seats for VIP as well. Getting 'guaranteed', close seats for every panel was amazing! This was especially important in the City National Civic.

And the free meet & greet/photo/autograph with Nichelle Nichols was just icing on the cake. ;)

I can add to the autographs/photo ops part: mainly, when doing these things, you get ahead of everyone else in the general line. You go first, too. For example, I was able to do Steven Yeun and Adam West in under 10 minutes--getting their autographs. It really helped out in meeting Grant Gustin and Tom Felton, since their lines were way longer. For photos, you go first ahead of the rest. So that plus the panel access stuff, it is worth it! I had extra time to do things or to chill. It was nice! Now I think gold is enough even though I had platinum and yep, you get a free signing. I did that one as well.

Filled out the survey that was in the email. Nice to see them reaching out to get a feel for the attendees feedback and requests for next year.

Finally got my response from SVCC. I emailed them asking about a 25% discount for VIP badges.

Apologies for the delayed response. We typically don’t offer discounts on the VIP passes, and they usually go on sale around August/September!

Thank you for reaching out!
McKenzie, SVCC

Ah well, worth a shot!

Thanks for asking! I noticed their comment about how 25% would be the biggest discount offered for regular badges, wonder if that was at least partly in response to complaints about them introducing discounts after a lot of people had purchased early.
