Andrew Fogel (Purdue University) traces the reception of the Superman comic strip sequence about Japanese internment camps to examine how Orientalizing Asian peoples during WWII allowed American Jews in the superhero industry to simultaneously leverage their whiteness and express their wartime patriotism.
