10:00 am - 11:00 am: Comic-Con Film School 102: Production

Day 2 of this four-day course on micro-budget moviemaking focuses on the specifics of production - from shooting techniques to lighting on the cheap to crew positions you need (and don't need), to costuming, props, and set decorating for as little money as possible. Panelists for the class include Valerie Perez (producer/star of the Paula Peril series), Jack Conway (creative producer of Next Generation Esports), Vera Vanguard (writer/producer/star of Breaking Barbi), Darryl Thomas (writer/producer of 38. Future cop Johnny Killfire must go back in time and team up with his former self in order to stop the TimeBorgs from getting their hands on an app that could break the space-time continuum by delivering pizzas into the past...before they were even ordered. Notable cartoonists and historians explore the truly unique American art form – The Newspaper Comic Strip. Arguably the very first form of American pop culture and a major reflection and critique of society for over 100 years. Participating panelists include Greg Evans (creator of the strip Luann), Karen Evans (co-writer of Luann), RC Harvey (comics historian, Children of the Yellow Kid), and Tom Tanquary (executive producer/director of Hand Drawn Life).

A short comedy film that explores a young man’s inner turmoil during a text message exchange. The film delves into the social anxiety that taints the modern-day teenager, sparked by the rise of social media and advancing technology. Ryan Wichert leads the cast as Jerry, with Kathleen Renish as the human embodiment of the Universe. An entrancing, albeit outlandish comedy that will resonate with many.

After he's been cast (again!) as a background tree in his annual middle school play, an ambitious and imaginative immigrant boy leads a revolution on stage that his intolerant drama teacher will never forget. There will be a Q&A session moderated by Yvonne Hunt (independent filmmaker).

Jane and Wren are two of the few survivors left alive on Earth, where the climate is now unbearable due to mankind’s conflicts. For the past few years, they have been living in fear, completely isolated, and threatened by fellow survivors. Hiding in the woods, they have never been able to meet each other. They can only communicate through a small transmitter from their respective hideouts. Their spacecraft eventually comes: now they have to face the biggest threat, reaching the launch point alive.
