Got an email that Southwest reservations are open through April 2017 already! That's more than the usual 6 months ahead only. Not sure I'm ready to think about flights yet. Though I'm already stalking Delta's page too. They're open through July 1.
-
i know... i've got to get through the summer con's before i can think about the spring con's
-
I'll be waiting until I get some SW gift cards for Christmas LOL
But at least I can look into C2E2 airfare now!

Booked for SWCO never too early to plan.

If anyone collects Coke points for My Coke Rewards, you can earn $20 Southwest codes.
ETA I apologize, [member=1221]YouThinkMeMad[/member] . It looks like they aren't doing it right now. But I'll keep my eyes open and if they bring back that promotion, I'll post again here.

Real life is overrate :)
I still maintain as Jedi Masters they should provide space shuttles for us.

Apparently tomorrow is 'Cheap Flight Day'.
Not sure how much I buy into this...

I'll be checking on my flights tomorrow :)

My flights did not reduce

Nope.

American Airlines are open up for all of July dates next year! Think I'll still wait for Southwest.
-
That's good to know. I'm waiting for Southwest as well. I flew American last time and didn't care for my flight time getting changed, delayed take off causing me to miss my connection and we arrived 2 hours later than I wanted.

SW has a little bit of a sale right now for C2E2 dates. I was able to find a few flights to MDW for $102 from BWI.

I looked for SWCO and I was pleasantly surprised to find they had a few cheaper flights also

Mine was $274 but I had to take a 6am flight :( Otherwise it was going to be $405

a 6 am flight will help you adjust to the time change. ;)
-
You're welcome!
In typical fashion, all the cheaper flights are of course super early or late. But glad to help!

We are currently accepting air reservations through May 8, 2017. On December 6, 2016 we will open our schedule for sale through June 2, 2017. This date is subject to change! Please check back frequently.

i know
i'm thinking we'll get the SW sale date for July on Dec 6...... we'll see. they're even more confusing then CCI

Nada! Maybe they will add July just before Christmas, as they did in 2014.

Thanks for the 411. The up charging is getting out of hand. No United for me.

They did update it as [member=1]alyssa[/member] speculated:

After the holidays, but before Returning Registration. Sigh...

i haven't double checked but if the old info holds, sw will open their ticketing for SDCC dates tomorrow.....

Woot! Woke up around 5 this morning and booked my trip!
I'll be flying into LA on Thursday 7/13 for D23 (my first one), drive down to San Diego after, and then home on Monday 7/24.
Direct both ways. Total cost was around $350, but due to credit I had, $150-ish out of pocket!!
-
I just can't justify it when I don't know if I have passes. I would say I could use the credit, if I end up not going, towards my Dragon Con trip, but flying to Atlanta is much cheaper than flying to SD, so it wouldn't make sense.
What to do, what to do...

I had a similar dilemma but, in the end, I decided to purchase my flight today. Coming from CT, the prices always tend to be lowest the earlier I book, so I wanted to take advantage of that while I could. Plus, I will be attending Walker Stalker Con in Atlanta in October AND I have one other non-con flight planned for the fall so if there are any issues with securing a badge, I'll just use the credit for both of those :)
-
So I wasn't planning on buying my flights out to SAN just yet, but I couldn't pass up a one way flight there for only $132. This is the cheapest I've seen it over the years coming all the way from FL... The return flight wasn't as enticing, so I'll be booking that later.

Was that first thing this morning? My flights from TX were considerably higher. I would have jumped at that price too!
Not price related, but for us, the return flight that fits our schedule best is again at 6:55am. Arrgghh!!

Nope. I booked it about an hour ago. My flight is in the early evening on 7/18 with one plane change in AUS, TX.
-
i just booked for about $450 from Portland ME that includes $30 for early bird boarding
i actually paid $230 with points & discounts
all i can say is, given the turbulent nature of life, I greatly appreciate the flexibility of SW.

Ha, my flight back (also to Texas) is at 6:35 a.m. But it's direct and it's cheap, so worth it.
-
This is probably the cheapest flights will ever be for Comic Con, you think?
-
I've used SW the last few years and there's always cheaper fligths for me ( from SFO ). I always just buy early then update to get credit for my next flight as the prices drop. The credit i believe last 1 year
-

Last year the SW airline prices never went lower than the initial price offered.
-
I'm holding off on buying my flights because I have plans for D23 so I'm just making my decisions.
-
I just purchased flights on Southwest for me and SO: Tuesday-Monday. It feels like a risky move since we don't even have badges!

Don't worry: even if you don't get badges, you will still have a good time!
And if the worst happens and you decide to cancel, you can use the credit from Southwest on another flight.

I didn't know you could do that! Add the free baggage on and there is no point in traveling on another airline. :)

that's how i feel- i've got a flight booked from lax to chi next month that i think i'm going to rebook - I haven't figured out where to go yet tho LOL.
it is absolutely freeing to be able to change a flight without stupid fees- i don't care if it's more $ or not- i don't even bother looking at other airlines. the piece of mind is worth it!
i did find out one thing tho abt the boarding Early Bird thing they do for an extra $15.
the earlier you buy, the lower your number is. so if i bought my flight the day they were released and i bought the advanced boarding pass, i'd most likely get a position of A25....ish. If i waited to right before the flight i probably would get a position of A55- B10.
also, if you do buy EB and need to change your flight, it will travel with your ticket. You need to be sure an modify your flight. I'm pretty sure if you turn a flight into money credit, the EB doesn't follow you.
-

Although you can only use the credit for a flight for YOU. I found out the hard way I couldn't use my credit to buy a ticket for my husband, even if I was making the purchase. :-\ Also, the credit expires 1 year from the date of original purchase.

Even still so much better than other airlines. Change fees are ridiculous. Just saw this today:
A British man who needed to fix a typo on a plane ticket found it was cheaper to change his name & get a new passport than pay the airline's name change fee - so he did it.

Went to buy my flight last night and found out they hadn't applied my credit. After an hour or so on the phone I have to wait for a love voucher and then I can buy my flight.
Anyone had a love voucher before? I would love to know how long they take.
-
Booked our flights! Always disappointed with the lack of options out of Dulles but it's just 15 min away so we decided to suck it up and take the 5:10am flight out. ???

My trip dipped $60 - just wanted to give everyone a heads up to check to see if you are due a refund.

Bummer indeed, but perhaps its just a temporary jump. Once I saw my trip moving upward, I decided to jump on before it climbed any higher. Then two days later it dropped again. Looks like prices haven't stabilized just yet.

Thanks! I got $28 back!

reporting that my Early Bird boarding pass did transfer over.
i can not say if it will retain the same early position i had obtained by buying the EB when i bought the ticket or not-
i am due a refund of 2500 points. they have not appeared in my account yet but SW does indicate that i am owed that refund.
-

I adjusted flights with NYCC last year with this method a month before the convention [w/ early bird], and was A30-ish on boarding day.

using this method i was just able to save myself ~~ 3,000 FF points.... Thank you again [member=4102]rickythump[/member] !
for those of you not involved with the SW FF, that's about one fourth of a coast to coast ticket- if you are able to book cheap-ish.

I have been using that method for years. My Orlando tickets went down $176 and I used that to pay for my SDCC fair. I check my flights a few times a week.

I just booked a one way ticket to Tampa for $77. The price on the website was about $230. Apparently if you call Southwest there are still much cheaper seats than the ones posted on the site. So, just a heads up for those of us traveling to San Diego on Southwest.

I got 10 dollar credit for a price decrease on my flight so double check your flights if you already booked. Usually i get one year to use it but this time it says it xpires on July 25, 2017. Did southwest change their policy when the credit expires?

That would suck if you have to use it by the time you take the trip you initially booked.

Ahh i figured out why my credit expires so soon. I used a voucher that expires on Jul 25.

Wow! I have never seen a ticket from Tampa that cheap. Although I can't complain, I just used my points for Tampa to SD and only paid $5!
-
We booked round trip for 2 from San Antonio for 46000 points OUCH!! Last year it was 19000 points but it was booked Feb 21. Having the sale this late made a difference with the fares.
-
I booked round trip from STL yesterday and it was $544 after all the taxes/fees/earlybird, last year was closer to $450 (and if memory serves me right closer to $400)! Eeeeek! Granted, I did check the fares around December/January and they were about the same as yesterday, but I still feel like having a late sale certainly doesn't help with the flight situation and can only hurt.
Edit to add: I did search outside Southwest but when factoring in points/free bags/layovers it was still the best option for me. I guess flight prices are just going to keep going up....
-
ARRGGG, this reminds me, i have to book the kiddos (who's taller then me) flight---

-
Well-my flights had held steady at the original rate (they popped up $40 for a bit, but went back down). Now, they are back up that $40. I know it's not much, but it's a bummer. I am going to go ahead and book, since I know I am going. I would hate for them to go up even more. Maybe I will try calling.
-
I just booked my flight from Denver for $220, round trip. But I have to depart Saturday night around 9:00 pm. The departure prices went up almost $100 if you leave on Sunday.
-
Annnnnnnnnnnnd just booked...heading out Tuesday, leaving Sunday. 2-of-3 achievements unlocked...
-
I wish I lived in the mid west, flying west is cheaper than flying from the east coast. I did get a crazy deal last year, but I also booked it in Feb. With the badge sale so late, flights are so high now.

SJC has flights for $154 roundtrip ($77 one-way.) This is as cheap as I've seen it during July as usually they are minimum $100 each way. SFO and OAK are currently minimum $115 each way.

Wow that's cheap! I'm flying out of Kansas City and my trip is $470 round trip :( (Fly out on Wednesday and come back Monday).

$230 RT SFO to SAN right now, typically they have sales, anyone know for sure?
-
I've been watching the airfare and it did go up by about $70 so decided to wait. Then saw a good deal on American but I would have to pay for baggage, so it wouldn't actually be that much cheaper than SW. I checked again this morning and SW dropped by almost $100! Same dates and times, so I hurried and booked it. Check it today and see if your airfare has dropped.

You just made my day! I can confirm that our flight went down around $160ish! I can use the balance for our LA flight for Gallifrey One. And, as others have noted, I kept my early bird (and have no idea if my place in line was altered. In case anyone doesn't want to search through the thread, here is the link with the tip on how to change your flight when the price goes down on Southwest.

Does anyone know how long it takes Southwest to refund back your money?
Instead of changing my flight due to a lower cost, I accidentally did a refund instead and purchased the tix all over again. Sadly I lost the $30 from the checkin and had to choose it again.
I'm sure because of Easter Sunday it delayed it but usually how long does it take? Within 24 hrs? 48 hrs? I did it last night so I'm guessing by Monday I'd get the money again?
-
Was it a refundable ticket? The balance may be sitting under the old confirmation number as travel funds.
-
Just rescheduled my flight out for $32 less :)
-

It was a refundable ticket. It just took 3 days to put it back into my acct. I was getting worried that I'd be charged twice lol. Seems like these price aren't gonna go down any time soon. And idk if they'll even have a sale.... I'm hoping so but my hopes are slowly fading away haha.

Yeah, flying from Phila is about the same. I got a good price last year, but I also bought them in Feb when the badge sale was earlier.

It really depends on what day you are trying to fly out on. We also fly out of philly airport. Try looking for a Tuesday or Wednesday departure.

Yeah that is usually a cheaper day to fly out. This year we are leaving on Tuesday but flying directly to San Diego. Normally we fly to vegas (cheaper) and then fly the next morning to San Diego. Do you have a preference of Airlines you are looking at.
-
Try also pricing it as a one way instead of a round trip. Sometimes it is cheaper todo separately.

For SDCC usually southwest as we bring purchases back. Last year we flew American really cheap, but I also booked in Feb. The lateness of the sale is really hurting for flight prices.

Yea you can find cheap flights with certain airlines or at least you think. You will end up paying for bags, seats, and other things. I usually stick with southwest as well because you can check two bags. Last year I paid a little less than $200 one way by going into vegas first. Sometimes taking multiple planes makes it cheaper too... Depends if you like to fly a lot or just want a non stop lol.
-
So what is the overall advice here when it comes to a time to purchase your ticket?
I'm flying from DFW and I'm going to fly American. Should I buy now or wait? If wait, how much longer? The app, Hopper, has told me that pricing on the flight I have in mind will hold steady until June 1st then it will slowly rise.
-

Usually flights go up in price the longer you wait, but I would just keep checking.
One aside - I'm not sure if you have flown lately but last year both united and AA changed my flight times on me at least twice. For some reason they think its ok to move your flight times by hours to put you on another flight. While those carriers may be cheaper, thats why I went back to SW.
-
I'm desperately praying SW drops one more time from NYC because when they were cheaper, I was unable to buy and now they are SEVERELY out of my range :(

Typically no later than 2-3 weeks before departure date, while obsessively checking for deals
-

Well, supposedly airline prices bottom out at about 54 days before the flight date so you still have a few weeks before prices are supposed to be their lowest. Of course that's just an average and doesn't take into account specifics of the flight itself or its popularity.
-
The late badge sale is really hurting us flying front the east coast. Last year I booked American at n AMAZING price in Feb, I thought I was dreaming and bought them right away. Now SW is just crazy, but we'll keep looking.

Dont wait... prices for SW will not likely go down at this point. Best deals for SDCC are usually like 4 months prior. They have continued to go up since i booked in March. Best deals i have zeen in the last 5 years were in Feburary.
one of the reasons i book Southwest is so i can get credits if the price go down. Dont wait...

Plus the first checked bag free thing...that's huge for SDCC :)

-
The late badge sale really changed prices flying from here as well...We went with comfort seats on Delta this year because it was comparable to where SW was at (and I get free checked bags on Delta anyway.)

Prices have been changing like crazy the last couple of days. I have mine but it's interesting to check. There are instances in which one direction, the price went way down and the other direction it went way up.

I am doing a quick trip to Tampa for family stuff the weekend before SDCC, and bought my tickets a month or so ago at a price that had held for a while and wouldn't you know it the trip dropped $100 this week. I changed the flight and took a credit, but I probably won't even get to use it in the next year.

I keep checking for any change but unfortunately all the flights back are sold out :(

Did your flight from Tpa to SD go down or was it the other legs? Wondering cause I am flying out of Tampa on Weds.

The late badge sale really hurt us with our flights. Earlier in the year, we could have gotten $77 one way to SD, but because of the wait, the one flight I wanted skyrocketed up to $160, so I ended up booking a really early flight to save money. Last week, I checked for S&G's, and the flight I wanted went down to $115, so I made the change. Coming back, prices are still crazy because it's on a Sunday, so I doubt that changes any.

Why didn't you just book your flight earlier? You could have always got a credit for your flight if you didn't get badges....
At least thats the move I would have went with.

So far mine are sitting steady. I snagged them at $444 which ewwww.

3-Day sale just announced...https://www.southwest.com/html/promotions/promotions_nationwide_sale_170606_offers.html?clk=HOMEHERO_WOW170606 (https://www.southwest.com/html/promotions/promotions_nationwide_sale_170606_offers.html?clk=HOMEHERO_WOW170606)
Don't know if it'd help this late. There are a number that have SD as a destination. If it works, maybe you can buy cheap and then ask for a refund for the prior? Unfortunately nothing for me as I originate in Philly :(

Doesn't look like the sale helps with SDCC dates.
-
Haha, shoulda read further down to the Ts & Cs.

I tried looking for a flight as soon as I got the email. The kids and I are all set because we are staying until Monday, but the wife has to be back to work Monday morning. Those Sunday night flights are outrageous, and many wanna get away fares are already sold out.

Flying from the east coast is hard on the pockets. We should charter a jet next year.

Heads up NYC/North NJ people!
Southwest dropped their prices flying out of SAN to EWR on Monday 7/24 and Tuesday 7/25.
Monday dropped from $282 to $222.
Tuesday dropped from $222 to $202 on Friday and has now dropped further to $182 today so I'm now sitting on a $40.03 credit! :D

We were trying to fly SW, but it ended up being less expensive flying AA this year again. Were even leaving a day earlier now and saved on a hotel night.
