Pro app and verification materials for 2020 submitted (I prepped ahead of time, since I had a feeling it would once again open up before this year’s SDCC). Fingers crossed!

And done. One less thing to worry about for now. It's after the con I'll start worrying about approval.
Anyway, I don't have an adobe account that allows me to edit their pdf file, and really didn't want to open one for the one time every three years I need it. So I printed the application, filled it out and then reimaged it back into a word file where I included all the other verification materials. In the past I would have just mailed it, but decided email was the better route. I do like the fact that you get a confirmation return email after you submit it.

I think it is super exciting.

Sent mine in on Saturday. I wanted to get it in earlier but we didn’t have much down time while in San Diego. I didn’t prep any materials before hand either so I had to search around for everything I needed. I’ve been going as a pro for 9 years but I’m afraid I’m not gonna get it again as I do stuff with toy design and collectibles and not comics or animation.
It’s not even about the cost either. I have no problem paying for my ticket. It’s just one less thing to have to stress about knowing I don’t have to face the general sale. It scares me. It’s also nice to be able to help out friends when I can.

I don't think you ought to have a "genre" problem for either Creative or Trade Pro. Your specialties are the lifeblood of the Exhibit Hall, which pays a large portion of the rent for the whole Con.
I say right in my Trade application that it's not the cost, it's the access. I still check in foir General Reg in hopes of grabbing the Senior Discount, and maybe I can't make it for 5 days. :-\ But the stress is much less!
-
So, I pull up my email account and see an email titled "Comic-Con Professional Verification". Could it be? Have they reviewed my application? Approved? Denied? Something was wrong with it? No, it's just a reminder. Honestly, I wish they would put "Reminder" in the heading of the email and avoid all this temporary anxiety.
Dear Professional,
This is a reminder that your professional VERIFICATION is DUE for Comic-Con 2020. Your application and verification materials must be postmarked or emailed by August 16, 2019. Applications sent after this date will not be considered for Comic-Con 2020.
All professionals must submit an application and qualifying verification materials to Comic-Con International every three years as proof of your continuing work in the industry. Please visit our website to download the “Comic-Con and WonderCon Anaheim 2020 Information and Application for Professionals” PDF. This document contains instructions on how to complete and submit your professional application.
This email is only a reminder. If you have already submitted your application, please do not send it again. We will notify you when your application has been processed.
This email is NOT a confirmation of badge registration. Please visit www.comic-con.org/cci/professionals for more information. If you have questions, please email [email protected]

keep up the faith. i work in tv/film and i was approved again for another 3 years last year. I mean I did have to pay for my badge for the first time in 8 years, but I'm not sure if that was an accident on cci's part or not since they did away with the pro categories.

Yeah, I noticed that it seemed like more pros had to pay for their ticket last year. That’s fine with me if I get it though. Free is nice but like I said, I don’t mind paying for it. I’m just s scared of the general sale.

I applied for the first time as an Educator: I've been to 20 Comic-Cons and never thought to apply as an Arts Educator before!
Will they send a rejection notice if I'm no accepted?

Has anyone heard back yet?
-
Heard nothing here yet. I submitted my application back on July 13, so it is going on 8 weeks. Although, I don't expect they even started looking at apps until after everything for this year's con wrapped up and they had time to recover.
-
Same, nothing here yet. I assume we’ll have to know by early next month unless pro reg is going to be later than last year.

It said in the app process that they wouldn’t even begin the approvals until 6-8 weeks after the convention ended!

Not sure exactly where it said that. This is what it currently says, which I take as 6-8 weeks after the 8/16 deadline. It's only been about 3 weeks into that period.
Comic-Con 2020 professional application period is now closed. All applications and verification materials were due by August 16, 2019. Applications submitted after this date will be considered for WonderCon Anaheim 2020 and Comic-Con 2021.
Please allow at least 6 - 8 weeks for applications to be processed. If you have been approved as a professional for Comic-Con 2020, or if your professional verification status is NOT DUE, you will receive information regarding online professional badge registration as it becomes available.

So I guess it's back to waiting. :)
I have to give them credit for one thing. They responded within about a half hour of my inquiry.

Wow, glad they got back to you so quickly, and thanks for clarifying for us! Though I have to admit that their mixed signals, while unsurprising, are immensely frustrating. For example, I checked my emails from this year on pro reg, and the one announcing the opening of applications says the following:
Once you have submitted your application and verification materials, please allow 6 - 8 weeks after the application period has closed for processing and review.
However, my submission confirmation e-mail says:
Please allow 6-8 weeks after Comic-Con 2019 or your submission (whichever is later) to be processed.
This is quite reminiscent of the Hall H fiasco from this past year - I.e. the website saying one thing, but they were then giving completely different instructions on site, which varied from employee to employee until Thurs morning. I’m less than impressed with their communication skills. But, again, not totally surprised!
-
Still no news... I am getting nervous hahaha
-
Well, it's now been more than 6 weeks since the application period has closed. So, regardless of which communication is accurate, we are now into the period when we should expect to start hearing results. I do have to ask, "Why does it take so long?" I mean, certainly they don't need 6 to 8 weeks to review a single application and make a determination as to whether or not that person qualifies...unless:
1. Rather than notify people as decisions are made, they want to release the decisions in a large batch.
2. They wanted to see how many applications they get and then determine how tight to make the qualifications so that approvals equal a predetermined number of badges.
Mostly, I'm worried about #2. This is the third time I've applied (approved the prior 2 times) and the basic qualifications that apply to me haven't really changed. Unless of course they start raising the bar due to an increased number of applications.
-

I'm worried about #2 as well - particularly because LACC denied my pro app last week, and I submitted the exact same materials to CCI this year. And they included both a photocopy of my SAG card and two contracts with AFTRA for projects that were completed in the past year. If LACC had said that they were out of pro badges, that would be understandable...but the email actually said "your application did not meet the minimum requirements," even though their website states "your last project must have been completed within the last two years" in order to qualify.
To say I am baffled is an understatement. And if LACC has denied my app, I have a feeling CCI could as well (even though this is my 2nd time applying), since they have been vetting the apps much more carefully.
-
Well, today marks 7 weeks since the registration deadline. It's still well within their stated 6-8 week window, but now things start to get interesting. For new pros (who might have gone to SDCC last year on a regular badge), they are probably currently eligible to participate in prereg next week. If they are granted pro status prior to the 12th, then they will be taken out of that eligibility pool, but are at least guaranteed a badge. It might be an issue for people they were hoping to help buy badges for as you're never quite sure how many guest badges you can buy. Not sure how big those numbers are, so it's probably not a big problem.
For returning pros there is still time. We just need to know if we need to join a group and participate in open registration. Of course open registration is a whole different animal and thus the nervousness. Will hopefully hear something soon.
-
Does CCI send a 'rejection' email if you apply for a Pro? Like, will we know definitively whether or not we are accepted as a Pro or rejected or is it more of a "I haven't heard by badge-buying day so I guess I'm buying a badge and I'm not a Pro" type of thing?
I'm applying as a pro, but I'm an Arts teacher: after 20 years of attending SDCCI this is the first year I've learned I could qualify as a pro because I'm a teacher so this is all new to me. I'm assuming I'll get rejected (assuming pros in the industry would take priority over educators), which is fine, but I'd like to hear either way definitively
-
2. They wanted to see how many applications they get and then determine how tight to make the qualifications so that approvals equal a predetermined number of badges.
Well, possible good news on this one. I just checked my CCI account, and it says the following on the pro tab:
All applications and verification materials were due by August 16, 2019. If you submitted an application and verification materials by this date, it will be processed in the order in which it was received, and you will be notified via email when it has been processed.
That seems to indicate that they aren’t going the route of reviewing all the applications first and then tightening the qualifications, as they will be processing them in the order received. But seeing as this is CCI, take that with a grain of salt!
Does CCI send a 'rejection' email if you apply for a Pro? Like, will we know definitively whether or not we are accepted as a Pro or rejected or is it more of a "I haven't heard by badge-buying day so I guess I'm buying a badge and I'm not a Pro" type of thing?
Per the above, it looks like they will send both approval and rejection emails!
-
For now, I'm just going to accept the optimism.
Does anyone else check their member account daily to see if the status has changed?
-
I was told by a friend yesterday that works for CCI that it's unlikely we'll hear back regarding Pro registration until after Returning Registration. Take that as you want, and maybe that doesn't apply to all and just newbies like myself.
-
Well, today marks 7 weeks since the registration deadline.
At least we know we're all in the same boat, slowly approaching shore. I was counting 8 weeks from the application but it might be up to 8 weeks after August 16th, which is the 11th.
For new pros (who might have gone to SDCC last year on a regular badge), they are probably currently eligible to participate in prereg next week. If they are granted pro status prior to the 12th, then they will be taken out of that eligibility pool, but are at least guaranteed a badge.
Many have pro status and still participate in lottery registration. There's not a huge reason to do so if you're a Creative pro, but Trade pros pay the full price for 5 days. So it's worthwhile to try other registration if you can't attend all 5 days (I've usually had conflicts on either Thursday or Sunday) or if you're eligible for a senior or military discount. You don't get to access the Pro Lounge if you're on a regular badge, though.

Update (and apologies for the double post!):
I just emailed CCI, as it has now been over 8 weeks since August 16 and most of us still have not received a response. Here is what their auto reply says:
The Comic-Con 2020 application period is now closed. All applications received by August 16, 2019 will be reviewed in the order in which they were received. Please allow 6-8 weeks for each application to be reviewed. If you have been approved as a professional, or if your Comic-Con 2020 professional verification status is NOT DUE, you will receive an email with information regarding online badge registration as it becomes available.
In other words, they are still using the 6-8 week phrasing though that timeframe has clearly passed. Since GusGus received an email, we know that they are not reviewing all of the applications first and then sending out all of the approvals/rejections at the same time.
To make things even more interesting, some press folks have already received their confirmation emails, and their application period began on 9/11. According to CCI’s website, press has a 5-8 week review period (https://www.comic-con.org/cci/press (https://www.comic-con.org/cci/press)), and it hasn’t even hit 5 weeks since 9/11.
And the volunteer interest list opens up this coming Monday.
So, that begs the question: why on earth would they have the pro app period open/close so much earlier than everything else if they weren’t going to send out the responses before everything else?
Again, as stated earlier in this thread, I am not surprised in the slightest...but at the same time, CCI was already skating on thin ice with me after their handling of the Hall H line this year & how the staff treated me personally in that process (though I must voice that the onsite security people they hired were complete angels, as per usual). So to have this happen so soon afterwards is even more off-putting :-[
-
I still can't shake the feeling that they're adjusting their standards so that the number of approvals equals a predetermined number of pro badges they plan to award. Maybe some decisions were easier resulting in some earlier notifications. I don't really know, but at this point they've had all of the entries for 8 weeks. I do tend to worry more than I should, so I'm hoping that's all it is.
-
The different departments are run by different people. So, I wouldn't put too much into comparing Press and Pro timelines.
They definitely have changed the guidelines for Pro and are leaning more heavily in teachers and publishing. I'm guessing that had brought on a whole new batch of applications when they added teachers to the mix. They also quit splitting Trade Pro and Creative Pro.....also making the stack bigger

You are right - I always forget that different people run those departments!
I’m remaining hopeful, since some of the materials I submitted were for audiobooks that are originally based on comics (and I did both narration and exec production for them). Audiobooks are a facet of publishing, so fingers crossed!

I, also, tend to do this. But I think a lot of people here probably already know that about me LOL

Update (and again, apologies for the double post) - Here is the response that I received from the email I sent to pro reg on Saturday:
Thank you for contacting us. The review period for Comic-Con 2020 applications began after applications closed on August 16. Due to the large volume of applicants, the processing of applications is taking longer than expected. We notify all applicants, whether approved or declined, of the status of their application when processed.

Congratulations! Your application and verification materials have been reviewed and you have been approved as a professional for Comic-Con and WonderCon Anaheim 2020.

Keeping my fingers crossed that more people hear back this week!

I submitted mine on 7/11! So it appears that CCI isn’t processing them in the exact order they were received - but since 7/11 & 7/13 aren’t that far apart, the processing could be happening “approximately” in the order received or something like that.
We will figure out the internal mysteries of CCI one of these days, LOL!
Congrats to everyone on their Pro Badge approval!

Stupid question, but as this is my first year of being Pro - how do you know it’s good for 3 years? I didn’t see any type of indication on my approval email!

It is under the terms & conditions for pros on CCI’s site!
”Professionals must provide verification materials demonstrating their continued qualifying work in the industry every three years.”

-
Can you just imagine if approvals were only good for one year? Considering the volume of applications they go through each year, multiply that by 3 and the deadline would probably have been back in April of this year to get approved for next year. And then do that all over again each year. On second thought, I'd rather not even think about that.
-

-
Got my approval yesterday at 5pm (submitted July 14th)!
This bit in the approval email has me a bit concerned: "Verified and approved professionals are not guaranteed a badge for Comic-Con or WonderCon Anaheim 2020. Professional badges are available until capacity is reached. Information regarding professional guest registration for Comic-Con and WonderCon Anaheim 2020 will be provided via email once allotments are determined."
I wonder if they're changing up the badge system again.
-
I contacted CCI about this and they said it's something they always include in case of extreme circumstances. The system isn't changing drastically from last year. :)
-
Reportedly CCI will still guarantee the Pro a badge, but each Pro will have an allotment for free or paid guests. Their allotments assume that some % of eligibles do not register, based on past years, plus a pad. In the past they never ran out of badges for Pros or paid Pro guests, but they've had to have a lottery for free badges for Creative Pro Guests. Starting last year they allocated guest passes and guaranteed availability for the pro and allocated number of paid or free guests.
CCI posted an information page on changes for 2019. That page has been removed since March of this year, but I found it on the Internet Archive. They may be fiddling with the process for 2020, but the only thing "new" is an increased availability for teachers, and they don't tell you if you're a Creative or Trade pro; you figure it out from your allotment. Here's what they posted previously:
New for Comic-Con 2019! All NOT DUE professionals will receive guaranteed allotments and pricing for their professional badge and guest badge(s). You do not need to rush to the professional registration website when it opens! Guest badges will not be allocated on a first come, first served basis. You will receive an email notification to the address associated with your Comic-Con Member ID account when badge registration opens. At this time, you may log in to your Member ID account and select the “Professionals” tab for your personalized allotment. Your personal allotment of guest badges is guaranteed for the duration of badge registration.
I'm on the "re-up" list. I'd be interested in hearing from anybody who was Not Due or already got their acceptance email on whether any of this shows up on the UserID page.

7/13 and still nothing.. ??? ??? ???
The delay does hint that they may be testing new rules. Of course, they don't have 20 people managing the process, and if the main 'worker' left or was pulled over to help with Returning, it takes a while for anybody doing it for the first time to learn the ropes. There shouldn't be all that much rush to get it finished before most people have to start making reservations, but obviously it's taking longer than they thought it would.
My current other speculation: They're reassessing the boundary between free and paid Pro and Guest. So many of us are on the boundary of what used to be designated Creative vs. Trade. Is an editor a publisher or an artist? There are low-output artists who don't do it for a living, but serve most often as promoters or historians. Lots of teachers may be on the same border. So it might not be the approval process that's taking so long, it's the allotments.
I don't have meetings with clients/customers/etc., and I said right in my application that my first reason for applying was the chance to guarantee a spot. Ten years ago it wasn't as tough to get badges in the lotteries.

7/13 and still nothing.. ??? ??? ???
FWIW the week before Returning Registration my wife asked a CCI associate that she works with when they'd conclude evaluating Pro submissions, and they essentially laughed and implied not anytime in the immediate future (to be fair she explicitly asked if that would conclude before Returning Registration). She was told they don't have near the staff to efficiently evaluate all of the Pro submissions and therefor it will take a bit of time.
Sometimes I have to remind myself that as huge as WonderCon and (especially) SDCCI are as events, they behind-the-scenes operations are relatively smallish. At least for me, knowing the process will take a bit of time lets me relax a little bit as I wait for that email in my inbox. I sent my application (as an arts teacher) on the last day, so at this rate I'm not sure I'm expecting to hear back before Thanksgiving but we'll see! I was lucky to secure a 4-day badge during Returning Registration so at least my going to Comic-Con isn't 100% contingent on securing a Pro badge.
-

That goes for a lot of outfits throughout the industry. Some of the Pro applicants could look at their own customers or organizations; the "team" for a subject might be one or two people part-time. CCI only has a small core staff and relies on part-time support during times of huge blips in support needs (like badge and hotel lotteries, and a month or so before the Con). I've worked with management groups for other Conventions who might take a long time to act on an issue because everybody's working on a more "time critical" event.

I just got my approval. I sent my application in on July 27th.

I sent mine in on July 24th and haven't received a response yet. :(

Adding to the datapoints: Got my approval email October 23rd. Application sent in on July 31st.

So those of us Procrastinators who waited until day-of deadline to submit may be waiting until, like post-Thanksgiving.
OK; I do appreciate those of you who've heard back who have stated what date you submitted the app. in to help us better track
-
This may have already been posted in here, but what do you make of folks who submitted in the first couple days but still haven't gotten a response when there's folks hearing back way later? I submitted my on July 13th, and later folks have already heard back, so they obviously aren't going just based upon day of submission.
NOTE: This is my 3rd time re-applying and if anything I'd say my credentials have improved this time, including publishing a book, podcast, and new film projects.
-
Have you emailed to ask about your submission yet? I did a couple of weeks ago and they just told me to wait. I'm thinking about emailing again since I now see all the people that submitted after me getting approvals

100% spit-balling here...
I wonder if it has more to do with going through via submission date & approving the most obvious first (and also rejecting the most obvious). Then they'll go back to the "plausible" pile if/when the "allotment" of Pro badges hasn't been 100% fulfilled.
Like, say, Kevin Feige is obviously a Pro, while a PA on a no-budget indie movie is a "maybe" and someone who submitted pictures of a colored-in drawing up for sale on Etsy is a "no"

I purposely did mine on the last day to submit. I haven't received my results yet. You are still good.

I'm wondering if something like that may be the case as well. I mean, why else would they be skipping some and going to later dates? Unless they are saving up all the maybe or rejects or something haha. Has anyone on here been straight up denied yet?
And FYI, I did already email them a few times. Each time it said to keep waiting basically haha. The only thing is that they keep saying they are going at them in the order they are submitted which seems not quite accurate, at least in how they are responding.

And thanks. I am wondering if they may just be waiting on responding to same basically. Why else would later date folks already have responses but not others?

I haven't heard of anyone being rejected yet. Maybe they're rejecting everyone together at the end. :(

Maybe we need a screen with a spinning blue circle and yellow banner/banter, saying "Pro badge allocations for Saturday are not yet running low. You will still be able to participate in Open Registration. Be gentle with cosplayers asking for candy Thursday night. #BePatient #PR2020"

Just got my "Approved" email! :D I submitted August 12. But as a long-time "Trade" I don't expect to be allocated free badge or free guest(s), so that could be why I was comparatively "early."

Woohoo!! Congrats to you!! And that is certainly possible. I actually think I figured out why it may be taking them forever to get to mine, and it's actually a submission issue with my email. For some reason it didn't send some of my attachments I had on there :(. I resent though and got an email back saying they would use them to take a look at my renewal. Hopefully that's a good sign!

Congrats to everyone getting approved, and I hope that everyone else hears quickly!

That link was for people who were going to apply for THIS year, and it was removed months ago (and became irrelevant after the close of Pro sign-up on August 16th). However, the notice shows that you won't need to rush during Pro Reg before they run out of free or paid guest badges: Through 2018 guest badges were first-come-first-served, and people would jump to register on the first day or week. Now you will be assigned your allotment, and you can register yourself and your guest allotment through the last day of the Pro Reg window. The guest allotments for 2020 approved pros haven't been sent out yet (as of November 4).

I vaguely remember that Pro badge purchasing happened before the general registration last year. I could have faulty memory, though.
Will that happen this year?
-
I just got an email for open registration but still nothing about Pro.
I’m so confused

I do believe it happened before general. I could see it happening again this year. Maybe this week?
Edit: Nov 6 was last years Pro Date, with Nov 10 being Open Reg.

Hopefully more confirmations roll out this week. I got swamped at work before and after the con and didn’t submit my recertification materials until the last week, so I’m waiting as well. It’s not fun

Yeah, I was hoping to know my allotment before general reg happens.

Same here! I am stressing out over it haha

Don't we always get at least one paid guest at the very least? Last year I got two paid guests, but no comp. The previous year when it was still waiting room I got in early enough for one comp guest which was nice. I do not at all mind paying though

Greetings all,
I have a friend that is a professional but, due to money circumstances, doesn't want to buy a full $300 badge and is wondering if she can buy a single day during Open Reg. (She received the email today saying she is eligible to participate on the 16th. but not sure that being a professional would allow her to only buy certain days.)
I vaguely recall this being an option, but wanted to pose it to the forum.
Appreciate any feedback!

I was renewed as a professional on 10/14, but received an e-mail today saying that I'm eligible to participate in open registration on the 16th. Checked in my account and it says that my professional verification is not due, but also says OK CC'20 Attendee Open Reg and now I'm confused.

I'm in the same boat. This goes along with my earlier question as well: Basically, even though you are a professional, you have an option to participate in open reg since you didn't buy a general attendee badge last year. I'm assuming that we have the option to buy only certain days during open reg, but can potentially buy the full professional badge if we choose to do so before the professional registration ends (and therefore forfeiting those open reg days). i'm not 100% sure on this, but it makes some amount of sense.
In short, if you are planning to use your professional badge for yourself, you can use your open reg code to help someone else get in.
Cheers,
~S

So if you register as a Pro do you have to purchase all 5 days? I know that concept might seem sacrosanct to folks who thing "if you have all 5 days guaranteed, why would you not jump on em all?!" but I'm just curious.

Assuming your Professional Badge status means you have to purchase rather than get a complimentary badge, then yes, it's an all or nothing type thing. It's a fair question because I have a hard time selling my guest badge because all my friends don't do all the days and the $300 price tag is a bit much.

Oh good, yes I was hoping we would get our allotment prior to open reg. Fingers crossed we hear about pro reg in the next 8 days...

You have the choice of either doing the open registration and being a regular attendee or going as a Pro.
However... you cannot have overlapping badges in both. They will cancel your regular Registration badge.
At some point, they'll announce when you can buy Pro Badges. Pro Badges are for all days and you have an option to buy a guest badge for a friend.
In Open Registration, you can buy anything that isn't sold out. Things sell out quickly. Because this is my third year as a Pro and I will have to apply again next year, I may see if I'm lucky in the Regular badge lottery. If I can get 3-4 days, I won't buy my Pro Badge. There's never a guarantee they will approve me next time and having an attendee's badge opens me up to the returning pool.
-
The posts above are correct. You don't have to use your Pro privileges if you have them, and if you're Not Due next year they will still be there. As a paid-badge type of Pro, I look for opportunities to choose my days and to use my Senior discount rather than pay "full price for 4+PN" as a Pro, which I'lll use if I must. I went through Open Reg last year and this year obtained 4-day (with discount) in Returning, and CCI still approved my Pro status renewal application. So I'm an example of a continuing Pro who doesn't always sign up that way, either for "can't come" or who used the other options (returning/open, press, volunteer). Undoubtedly they use the statistics on how many Pros haven't gone through Pro Reg to help set the allotments for the next year.

I'm creative professional and never have received an option for open registration before which is why I was confused! Like why would I pay when I've always been offered a free badge for being creative professional. Now it has me worried if creative professional badge types are different this year.

Got the email last night that I'm now officially a Comic-Con Pro! After being an attendee for 20 years, this was the first year I applied as an educator & it was definitely exciting to see that email! I applied the morning of the deadline date and received my confirmation around 6:15 last night. My wife applied at the last moment deadline date afternoon, and still hasn't heard yet. She actually hosted panels last year for the educators blocks in the library, with a Pro badge last year, so I anticipate she'll hear back soon as well.
Exciting times, and this being my first go at the Pro process/logistics it almost feels like doing Comic-Con the first time!

The usual 1 comp and 2 paid guests for myself and my wife. So glad they provided this info prior to open reg like they did last year.

My wife still hasn't heard back, either. She submitted at what I think was almost literally the last minute. She got a Pro badge last year (that CCI issued literally the week before Convention, as she co-hosted panels at the library for the educator's tract), so I would be dumbfounded if she doesn't get one this year.
-
I never received a response to my application. I'm guessing I wasn't approved though since pro reg seems to be open now....
I was told late last week by a CCI peep that it might take up until next Friday to process all of the applications: but they seemed confident CCI _WILL_ get through everyone's apps before Gen Reg so everyone knows where they stand.
FWIW these were the same peeps that literally laughed when I casually asked, "so...will Pro status be straightened out before Returning Registration" so they seem to have a good grasp of their situation :P
-
I got one comp and two paid. Same as last year.
-
Just a thought:
I'm in a buying group: one that has been AMAZING over years! Even though I got Pro Status (and took my name off the list of "people who need a badge" list for next Saturday's Open Reg) I'm waiting until after next weekend to claim my badge(s) so I can still participate and help the group out next Saturday with my account. With the randomness of Registration, you never know who's code will magically hit early, so if you're in a position to help, go for it!
-
Are there any "NOT DUE" pros still waiting for their registration code?

No, it should be right there in the Professionals tab of your Member ID. If you don't see it, email them.

Which is strange considering my application this year has been beefed up considerably since my first one three years ago after working with two large comic book publishers. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My wife got approved, and her email came on Monday, Veteran's Day. So at least it seems CCI may be burning the midnight oil, so to speak, to get through the apps.
She applied, from what she told me, the absolute last minute (like, late afternoon due date), so if I'm spit-balling/hypothesizing I might guess that maybe they approved the most "obvious" applications, are looking at the "maybe" applications now to see what they have left. IDK. I'm 100% new to all of this, meaning it hasn't been a thought in my mind and I haven't paid any attention to this process before this fall so I really don't have much of an idea, I'm just hypothesizing. I do know that someone I talked to awhile back w/CCI seemed confident that everyone would be notified before General Registration, so maybe a whole batch of emails will be going out in the next 30 hours or so. My email came after 6pm (closer to 6:30 than 6), so it seems like they're working hard to get through that pile

Does this mean I have been denied? I guess that explains I haven't heard anything, also weird they did not send out emails. Even though I emailed a few days ago and they replied they were still working on approvals... I been a Pro for 9 years now so I am not sure what is going on..

I logged into my account and noticed this under the professional tab:

No, doesn't mean you have been denied. I had the same thing in my browser before my approval came yesterday.
She applied, from what she told me, the absolute last minute (like, late afternoon due date), so if I'm spit-balling/hypothesizing I might guess that maybe they approved the most "obvious" applications, are looking at the "maybe" applications now to see what they have left.
Possibly,...but I know a group of four artists that work in a collective studio that all applied together and put all their applications inside the same e-mail (they all have the same qualifications and portfolio) and only 1/4 has been approved so far. It would seem to me if one was approved they would all be approved...
I think too many variables are at play, but the biggest one is probably too many applications and not enough people working at CCI to review them all as quickly as they had hoped.
-
Thank you, that gives me hope again hahaha

I called to check on my application a couple of weeks ago. When I asked to be transferred to the Professional Registration department, the girl that answered said "He's out of the office right now, can I take a message?". So I'm guessing it is just one guy that is reviewing everything....

This is my first time doing Prof. Reg. Is it normal to take this long?
Trying to figure out if I should do Open Reg this weekend.

Take this long for approval? I don't think so. I looked over the thread for last year and it seemed like a few people might've fallen through the cracks and didn't get approved until January, but it seems like a lot more people are waiting for approval this year.
If you've already been verified then I wouldn't worry about Open Reg. If you haven't been verified, and are able to - I would give Open Reg a shot just in case. They will refund your Open Reg badge purchase if you get approved later on down the line.
-
I haven't been verified! I'm a TV writer for Netflix shows. Is that good enough for a professional badge? My last show was a hit so hopefully!
-
You definitely qualify, Rebecca. Did you turn in your application late? There is no way in hell they will deny you.
To make you feel better though, you can do Open Reg, then when you are approved Pro, they will refund the attendee badge. I was once approved after I had paid for an attendee badge and they just issued me a refund and swapped my badge over to Pro.

You would think with such an expensive, big money making con, they would have more people working on pro badge approvals..

CCI is a non-profit. It's a very small staff.

I've been a pro for the last eight years but I didn't get approved until March when I took a chance and just sent a follow up email. They sent over an automated approval email like a week later so i got the sense that I fell through the cracks. Always follow up.

I just got my approval email! That took huge load off my shoulders. Anyone else got theirs?

I submitted mine second day of application period being open and I (thankfully) got mine earlier this week. I did have to submit some additional documentation though since some didn't correctly attach, so it's hard to say how they are going through approving folks.

Thanks Mel! I sent mine in July 29, 2019.
So within the window but what I would guess is late. Still haven't heard any damn thing!

I send in my application on July 13 and finally heard back yesterday. Hang in there! I’m sure you get approved soon.

Yeah, talking with people over the years, CCI seems like an incredibly razor-thin line between a huge company that can successfully work with the top entertainment companies in the world to present amazing things to Con-goers, and a mom & pop operation that feels like a handful of people making decisions around a card table. I was told my assessment earlier in the thread (the def. yes & no piles + circling back to the maybes after-the-definites were approved hypothesis that has been rebuked with anecdotal evidence) gives CCI's amazing team too much credit on the approval process and that it's more "yes" or "no" than that.
I think far more likely is that there are just a TON of Pro apps and CCI's staff hasn't gotten to all of em yet, gods bless em. I wonder how many people they have sifting through the applications: like, dozens? Double digits; single digits? I suspect the number would be a little surprising
-

Someone before mentioned calling to talk to the Pro Department and getting an answer back that implied only one person was in the department.
I don't think its dozens. I think it likely about 3-4 people, if even that.

Yeah, that would be my assessment

I called them once and got very personalized service. It didn't feel like a big operation.
-
It didn't feel like a big operation.
Probably for the best. I imagine if they added a huge amount of people to the workforce - many of the things we have been accustomed to (guest passes, complementary passes, three year verification) might disappear.

Has anyone gotten a rejection email; or does anyone know someone who got a rejection email?
Just curious

Are people still waiting on pro approvals? One of my friends is, and she hasn’t gotten a rejection email or anything yet.

I am. I have also gotten nothing.

I still haven't received a response to my application that was submitted in July

Might be worth a shot to e-mail them again if you haven't done so lately. My friend hadn't heard anything back and he e-mailed and got his approval the same day within a couple of hours.

if anyone has an extra guest badge they're not using, some long time active members might be interested. I know of one person in particular who got shut out of both open & gen due to technicalities. Just to be clear, i am only asking this for long time active forum members, like 300+ posts & years of membership who due to no fault of their own got short changed.
PM me & I'll put folks together.

Out of pure curiosity of the process, does anyone know of someone who's gotten a rejection letter from their Pro application?

Question:
Should i be concerned?
I applied as a Creative Pro, got approved, but Im hit with a badge fee?? Could this mean that they have me listed as a Trade Pro??

Possibly, but they've gotten rid of the distinction between badges and its all internally handled now and up to their discretion. You could always e-mail and ask, but it seems a like a bit of randomization is used when it comes to who has to pay for their badge and who doesn't.
-
I still haven't gotten anything. All of my emails asking for an update are ignored lol

The Early Bird hotel sale lit a fire under my butt and I finally paid for my pro-reg badge today. I guess it's real. I am NOT looking forward to Hotelmageddon, but at least I know I'm locked in again this year... whew.

This is what happened to me after years of being categorized as Creative. It’s like being hit with a bucket of cold water. I was thinking about emailing them myself but I’m figuring that those who are actually in the comics industry not only get priority with pro and comp badges but with their badge also being comped. Since it’s not profit and more and more people are applying as pro this is most likely their way of balancing out the costs.
-
Yeah there are no Pro categories anymore. And they revamped how they prioritize Pro status. It's now more meant for comics, publishing and teachers. I expect to pay next time I reapply, because I do TV and they made it clear tv and film is not a priority.

FWIW most of my credits were film and I received a comp badge for this year after reapplying last year. I know of others who had mostly worked in TV and still received comp badges. The criteria they use to pick who gets a comp badge and who doesn't seems to be pretty subjective now. Who knows if this will change though, I imagine with more and more people applying each year the criteria will only get stricter.

I just now finally got a response to my pro application that I submitted last July. They denied my application.

Sorry to hear that. Can you appeal? Maybe they just needed more info?

I applied in July and STILL haven’t heard anything.
I see a previous poster said they’ve been denying TV/Film people and I work in TV :(

Does anyone know if our Professional status will 'roll over' so that we will still have the remaining years left of "Verification Not Due"?
SDCC 2020 would've been the first year of my current eligibility and I would then reapply for SDCC 2023.
But due to the cancellation, would it be bumped to reapplying for SDCC 2024?
The message on our Member page is a little vague in regards to future applications. It only really mentions if you are eligible this year, you are eligible in 2021, but that comes off sounding like if this was your last year of eligibility you can still attend 2021.
Just curious if anyone has insight. I reached out to CCI as well.
Cheers,
~S
