I guess we're all 'new' right now since Alyssa put up this new version of the board! Besides, I don't think it's been around that long? It's a great resource though, and I'd like to see this stay for future years.Ha ha. It took Alyssa and I some time to figure out the best way to organize the forums, but I'm definitely happy with what we've come up with (whew, moving all those threads and creating the sub-forums). Before, there wasn't a place for us to introduce ourselves to get to know each other as a forum community, so I thought this thread would be the perfect place to greet people (of course, we'll have point it out to any new members). ^_^
I've been attending SDCC every year since 2008. I meet up with a big group of friends every year and we all have fun (like a giant sleepover party that goes on and on and on...). I'm from northern California, but my friends come from all over the US and Canada.
Greetings! I live just about an hour north of San Diego. This will be my tenth year attending this Granddaddy of the Geekfests. ;) It is my annual treat to myself to experience Nerdvana at its finest. This forum is a valuable resource for seasoned veterans of the con and those testing the waters for the first time. Hmmmm, can't think of any more cliches or trite phrases for the moment... ;)Greetings, Rainer! Oh, are you in Irvine? (I'm in San Diego myself.)
Hi! I'm Tarra and this is my first year attending San Diego Comic Con, I'm coming from the Gulf Coast of Florida (Tampa area) and I'm so excited because I've dreamed of attending SDCC since I was 13, so five years later, I'm finally going!Hi Tarra! I'm glad that you're able to come out to SDCCI this year! Maybe we can have a forum meet-up... (Like dinner or something on one of the days at con.) ^_^
Hi...I'm Danni. This will be my first time attending the Con. I live in Ontario, Canada. I will be going with my friend Sean from Wales. We are both super excited to be going. Trip of a lifetime for me. I've been a big fan of the horror genre since I was 5 years old. I love comics and graphic novels and am a voracious reader of everything. I wear my geek badge very proudly. Sooooo excited to be going!!! Eek.Hi Danni! Wow, Ontario and Wales. Quite a bit of traveling! Don't hesitate to stop by in some of the transportation or parking info threads to learn how to get to and from the convention center from the airport.
Hi, my name is Doug, and I have a comic-con problem. (Hi Doug). Is there a 12 step for this? I attended my first con in 1989 at the old Concourse up by Horton Plaza. Missed 1990 because my spouse was pregnant with our first-born, but I have since forgiven my son. I started reading comics because my friend MadMax told me that there was a comic book based on my favorite TV show of the time, Robotech. So each year at the show, I try to close in on completing the collection of the three series. I first volunteered in 1990, which was the first year at the new convention center, and worked in the photography department for a few years. I've recently returned to the volunteer pool, mainly to have more pocket money to buy stuff, if on a rare chance you can actually shop in the dealers room ;-)Welcome to the new and improved forums, Doug! Ha ha, I don't know... we might eventually have a 12-step process for this. *laughs*
What I love about this board is the wide variety of ages and con experience! I think it really makes a difference to the quality and variety of information posted.Absolutely, I would definitely agree. It's great that we're able to connect because of just one convention. ^_^
Hi Everyone! My name is Jennifer :) I've been going to SDCC since 2004 (the year before my senior year in high school). I would've gone earlier if brothers would just let me tag along (they started mid 90s I think). Since I've started going most of my family/friends have stopped due to the crowds and stuff so I guess I'm a little more hardcore than they are. I attend mainly with my boyfriend and you'll find us on the exhibit hall floor 90% of the time.Hi Jennifer! Ah, an avid collector of the awesome exclusives at Comic-Con... Very cool. ^_~
I usually go around the Toy Growers Cultyard (altho I think they changed that name last year?) and the main booths. I mainly collect dunnys, plushies, mighty muggs, and pop vinyl. I used to buy a lot of manga and comics but it just costs too much for me to keep up all those hobbies and I can read through novels in less than a day, so I stick mainly to collectibles. I love sci-fi shows altho they keep killing my favorites :'(
Before the convention I try to create the biggest list I can regarding SDCC exclusives from both individual artists/creators and the larger booths since most lists disregard the smaller companies.
Hello! Actually, I live north off of the I-15/215 in Murrieta. ;)Ohhhh~h, cool, near Temecula. I actually live twenty minutes (without traffic, of course, ha ha) from Downtown S.D. *laughs*
Hello everybody, thought I'd be neighbourly and post to commemorate that I'm digging the new look, and to show my appreciation for the change of scenery! Much thanks to Alyssa and to Zero, this is wicked awesome work.Hello, Winston! Welcome to FCCI! Look forward to some more awesome updates--it's a work-in-progress. ^_~
I'm Winston, and I live in Ontario, California. I joined Friends of CCI just after I got my badges in the first sale. Aside from a query I posted soon after I joined, I pretty much just stay tacit and keep track of the goings-on, having basically done nil to contribute given how meager my knowledge of things are, sticking to the sidelines , or I linger amongst the gargoyles in the slated rooves, whichever is the better vantage point :-) Been going since the early 1990s up until the mid-2000s when the compass I was following took me down a different trail for a few years -- at the end of which I got my bachelor's in nursing and work full-time in the hospital setting. But despite all I've gone through, reading comic books (and really just experiencing being told a good story no matter how its dressed up in) is, I have realized, a part of what makes me tick. But I don't collect, just dabble. It's quality time we are all looking forward to when we go again (or for the first time, for the newbies here), and I wish all our journeys to be transformative and as good as or better than what we imagined.

Ha ha, I love the imagery in your post, especially the "gargoyles" line. Perhaps a hidden talent amongst working in the medical field? ;p

Are you from the Bay Area or further up north in California?
Hi, everyone - I'm Leonard from Cleckheaton in West Yorkshire. This will be my third Comic-Con in a row; my first, in 2010, was my honeymoon trip with my then-new wife Caroline, a Welsh woman born and bred.Welcome to the new forums, Leonard! (Great thread with IFTTT.com, by the way.) Nonsense, it's great that there are some international SDCCI fans visiting here. Perhaps someone could make a meet-up thread in the "Off-Topic Chat" area, if one is interested in having a forum hang-out during con... ^_~
[snip]
I'm doing my best to pass on any help to fellow Con-ers travelling from the UK with a dedicated Group and I'm hoping I'm not over-staying my welcome on the other pages. And I'm so looking forward to meeting up with everyone, in a pub, at some point in July - don't know about calling a round in but I'll do my best! See you in SD!
Wish I could take credit for that bit with the lingering-on-the-rooves, but Fritz Lieber came up with the original phrasing of that in a poem from Ill Met In Lankhmar. Sorry, I should've cited that source, then and there. Credit where credit's due, obviously. I get completely muppets sometimes, I apologize ^_^Ha ha, not at all. Shhhhh, you're not supposed to tell us that. ;p
Bay area. It's nice to be from this area in terms of SDCC, because we have the option of either flying or driving, depending on what is more convenient for that particular year.Oh, nice! Sounds like a wonderful vacation. If you can, you might as well enjoy the sights and sounds of a few theme parks along the way. ^_^d
This year we're going to do a slow drive down, stopping at Magic Mountain and a couple of other places along the way before getting to San Diego, then on the way back we're thinking of going to Seaworld and Universal Studios.
Hey there,Hi Tom! Welcome to the new FCCI forums. It'd be really cool to meet Katsuhiro Otomo! I hope you get the opportunity to do so.
My name is Tom and I'm from outside Baltimore, MD. I'm deeply engaged in fannish things (mostly anime and gaming). My first time at SDCC was back in 2007 and it wasn't fun due to not choosing what I really wanted to see. This year I will have a full weekend pass, but will only do a couple days and try to do Seaworld and some other local attractions. The biggest things I'm looking for is to finally meet Katsuhiro Otomo (the manga-ka of Akira along with anime director) and to see some Iron Man 3 panel.
Ohhhh~h, cool, near Temecula. I actually live twenty minutes (without traffic, of course, ha ha) from Downtown S.D. *laughs*Rainer and Zero are pretty close to me then! :) I live in the IE also. I'm more inland tho (Hemet) but my roots are in North (San Diego) County.
Hi, everyone - I'm Leonard from Cleckheaton in West Yorkshire. This will be my third Comic-Con in a row; my first, in 2010, was my honeymoon trip with my then-new wife Caroline, a Welsh woman born and bred.
I'd heard of Comic-Con for years before, just as it had started getting insanely popular. However, when I saw (or rather, heard) the crowd reaction of Hall H to the teaser footage to Tron: Legacy, I was determined to make my way to San Diego. It would be not only my first Con, but also my first trip to California, to America - and my honeymoon? Big trip!
hello! my name is steve and i've been attending comic con off and on since 99. i'm heavily into photography, toys, horror related, music...to name a few. speaking of, i'm getting some new business cards/flyers made specifically for comic con that i'll be passing out to cosplay attendees that i photograph. i've taken pictures in the past that turned out alright and i thought to myself, "wish i knew this person so they could see their pic". or like on year i had mine taken (regular clothes) but i've never seen it.Hello there, Steve! Welcome to the new forums! Oh, a cosplay photographer? Nice!
anyway, thanks to those responsible for this board, and looking forward to july!
Rainer and Zero are pretty close to me then! :) I live in the IE also. I'm more inland tho (Hemet) but my roots are in North (San Diego) County.Oh, the Inland Empire. Cool! Yep, I'm in San Diego. (Moved down from L.A. for college, ha ha.)
once we get closer to the con people will start posting "i'll be wearing this..." posts, so we can meet up. but to play it safe, i can always post a link afterwards with the pics i take. i love seeing other peoples con pics as well. the weirder the better, haha...I'm sure the other mods and I can figure something out. ^_~ Don't worry. There's already a special section for cosplay on the forums, so that's a good place to start... As for pictures, there is a limit to how big a picture can be before it is automatically shrunken into a thumbnail size. (Otherwise, people can just post links instead of using the image BB code tag.)
not too website savvy, but there has to be someone on here that can figure it out. i would just be careful though because some people like to post ALOT of pictures and in big sizes. sure you're seen those threads from time to time ;)
Hullo everyone!Greetings, PZ. This is a place to share info and ideas, so I'm glad to be a part of this community as well. (I'm still doing coding and graphic designing for the forums, so stay tuned for a few more updates, ha ha.)
First off, massive props to Alyssa and Zero for putting this all together and for being so incredibly patient and helpful to newbies like me. I really appreciate all the advice given by everyone on the forums, so THANK YOU, seriously.
I'm PZ, and I hail all the way from Singapore. This will be my 1st time at SDCC so I'm just thrilled out of my mind to be able to go.
[snip]
I admit that I'm most excited about the panels and getting to see my favourite actors and writers in the flesh this July, but another highlight is getting to know other fans because I don't have many real-life friends who are into books, movies and shows the way I am. Finally, I'm just psyched about visiting the US again, since I only get to go about once a year. You guys have GIGANTIC food portions, and THAT'S what I'm talking about, not the tichy little portions you get here in Asia. :D

Wow, all the way from Singapore! That's a long way, but it's wonderful that we have quite a lot of international fans here on the forums. At any rate, I think forum communities such as this are great ways to meet new people--especially for cons. ^_^d
Yeap, my best friend and I have to fly for over 20 hours to get to the US, but we're stopping by NY for a couple of days before heading to SDCC. I think it would be awesome to meet up with new friends at the con - maybe we could have a get-together after the con for drinks!@__@! 20+ hours. Yikes. How many stopovers do you normally have for your flight?
My name is Andrew and as you can guess by my screenname, I live in Costa Mesa in Orange County, about a 90-minute drive north of the CCI site.Welcome to the new "Friends of Comic-Con International" forums, Andrew! Glad that you can join us.
There's a direct flight to New York from Singapore but only for business class and above, so it's pretty expensive and I opt for regular cabin instead. Usually when I fly to/fro the east (JFK mostly) I stopover at Frankfurt, whereas if it's the west cost (LAX) I stopover at Tokyo.@__@;
I booked my flight from NY-> San Diego for 11th July via Delta and it cost me a whooping $350! (This was the cheapest deal I could find as of last month!) The last time I flew from Minneapolis to Vegas on X'mas eve it only cost me $250, what with holiday peak charges and all. Guess that's Con season for you, the price hikes for hotel/airfares are INSANE. :(
Yes, there should be a meet-up thread! Unfortunately I'm utterly unfamiliar with SD and SDCC so I wouldn't have a clue where and when to suggest it. Anyone else has ideas?
So do you recommend that I should avoid the high-profile panels as they may take up most of the day waiting in line?
It is tough to answer the high profile panel question for someone else since everyone’s Comic Con objectives are different. Some people do nothing but wait in lines & spend the whole day in big panels while others avoid the panels entirely & just walk the exhibit hall.
You best bet is to:
(1.) Wait for the schedule when it comes out two weeks before the show
(2.) Make a list of all the panels you want to see
(3.) Rank them: Dying to see, Wouldn’t mind seeing, etc.
(4.) Calculate wait times (usually 3 hours ahead of time is enough although popular shows like Big Bang Theory can be as long as 8 from what I have heard)
(5.) Figure out which ones might be in the same room right after each other.
(6.) Decide if the panel/wait time is worth it to you --or-- you can decide if walking the exhibit floor would be something you would enjoy more.
Sorry for the wishy washy answer, but each person’s con experience is different depending on what they like to do and want to see. Hope this helps!
Welcome to the new "Friends of Comic-Con International" forums, Andrew! Glad that you can join us.
As for any tips or advice for con-going, check out this thread: http://www.friendsofcci.com/forum/index.php?topic=6.0
*goes back to making new button designs for the forums* (Ha ha.)
Hello to all Con Vets & Newbies!Greetings, hoserzgirl! Oh, Frank and Sons. I love that place--I haven't been there for a while (mainly due to my being in San Diego for most of the year, ha ha). I've gotten some pretty good deals from some of the vendors there.
My little tribe and I have been to CC for the past 4 years. It really is so much fun to hang out with cool people for 4 days and get away from the daily grind. We also live in the Inland Empire here in So. Cal. We enjoy getting out to Frank & Sons and going to local events. I would say to anyone who doesn't already know that one of the big reasons it is so fun to go the Comic-Con is the people. So talk it up while you are in line and get ready to meet some pretty amazing people. The Big Kahuna has over 2 thousand friends on facebook and it's awesome when we get to meet them IRL. CCI is really like the biggest summer camp ever for all ages.
And definitely a shout out to the Creators of this forum. I hope all will find some useful information, and maybe even make some new friends!
Thanks for the thread Zero. I wish I had come across it before last year's Con!You're welcome! ^_^ I figured it'd be a good place to start off with posting on the forums, whether you're an SDCCI veteran or not. Actually, the original "FCCI" forum was created sometime in November 2011, and this new, upgraded version of it was created in the last month or so. The admins are in the process of making it even more awesome, so look forward to it. (In other words, it didn't exist yet, but I do wish we had a resource like this earlier, ha ha!)
I'm glad to see families coming! I'm bringing my entire family for the full 4 days as well. It's important to raise children right, to appreciate the geeky things in life... ;)Heh, I used to take my kids when they were little, then they got bigger and didn't want to go any more, now they are older and try to get tix for the past few years. They finally came around.... :P
How old are they?
yeah, my son's in his last year of 'free'.
yeah, my son's in his last year of 'free'.Luckily my daughter was short, so she was 12 for a couple years :o
I know. I'm eagerly waiting to hear about your experience transferring him to a junior badge, so I can apply that knowledge next year. ;)My hope is that he'll be able to buy his own badge... maybe with proof of age so only 12 year old's can buy a badge
Luckily my daughter was short, so she was 12 for a couple years :omy son will be taller then me by next year plus we don't do well with bending the rules, i tend to hear about it for months... and months.. and months afterwards.
What's up nerds?! My name is Ismael and I've been going to the SDCC since '99. These last few years my wife (Jeanette) and I have been going and she just loves the cosplay scene. I enjoy picking up some back issues of Marvel Comics, mainly The Punisher. I'll be there this year, all 4 days and staying in downtown. See you soon!Hi there, Ismael! Welcome to the FCCI forums.
Hello all my name is Paul and last yr was the 1st time for the me and the family. We went on sat only, this yr it's all four days. I got tickets thru the 2nd chance resales because when we finally got into the waiting room we were about 35,000 so we had no shot, during 2nd chance it was about 835.Hello, Paul! Welcome to the newly upgraded forums. Oh, cool, will your daughter be cosplaying this year as well?
We stayed in Anaheim last time and we'll be much closer this time. Haha! My daughter dressed up as Sakura Haruno and she was happy cuz ppl were recognizing her costume. We got parking under the convention center and that was nice because when our bags got full we went downstairs and unloaded and grabbed snacks. Anyways see you all in July.
However, what with everyone here talking about their jobs and kids, I feel like the average age bar is raised! Or maybe it's just on this forums, but now I feel like a kid compared to most of you! :P It's awesome that so many people here are still unabashed fans and pursuing what they love together with their spouses and children. :)I agree--it's great that some people get their families involved in some of the things they're interested in. Good family bonding time as well as meeting new people! ^_^
Hello Everyone! Finally joined as an official member since I've been stalking this forum for months. This is my first time going to the Mothership and it's already been a mind blowing experience dealing with badges, hotels, etc. Didn't get a badge for all the days but did luck out and got accepted as a Volunteer so I'll miss Preview night but will still get to be there for the rest of the week. Got a hotel but like a lot of people not on my "wish list" - still hoping for a downtown location.
My partner and I are coming from Alaska (I know the heat is going to kill me!) and really hope we get to meet some or all of you!
Thanks so much to everyone who posts here regularly on all subjects - you don't realize how much you've helped this newb!!!
"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see it's path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
Hi, Zero, great to see you here! :D
Zero - You can call me anything you want as long as you don't call me late for dinner!! HAHA (gasping from laughing so hard)
Sorry, that was pretty bad.
Thanks for the welcome messages - we have been consumed with Con Craziness since we made the decision last year to finally go instead of watching the coverage on G4 or jealously reading about it on the internets. We keep saying this will probably be the only time we go because of the cost but I have a feeling I'll be on the plane heading back North in July and I'll be mumbling to myself as I pat my bag of cool swag - I want to go to there - Again!!
but I have a feeling I'll be on the plane heading back North in July and I'll be mumbling to myself as I pat my bag of cool swag - I want to go to there - Again!!Don't worry Rain, the first decade is the hardest, after that its an easy decision to come back to The Con! And congrats on the volunteer, you will be on the early entry list for the volunteer pool now for future years, and will be able to sign up ahead of the crowd.

It's great to see you here, Kevin! I've been going to Comic Con since 2008. Some years I go alone, some years I take some of my family. But I always meet up with friends while I'm there. For some of us, this is the one time each year that we see each other!
Geek Chic... really, who thought that up? Geeky stuff has *always* been the best! I mean back in the good old days, playing Nethack and D&D, reading comics that were actually fun instead of 'dark', collecting toys that were actually designed to be played with... *That* was cool!
Don't get me started on collecting toys that you play with, my mother gave away all of my Star Wars, He-Man and Transformers toys.
Oh, it's always been fun but there was also an undeserved social stigma attached to it, as if you couldn't be a normal and fully functional person if you were into scifi and comics.i have been thinking of that a lot recently--of how it was and the general acceptance of peoples oddity's at the modern con's
Just so you don't think I'm in with the geek chic crowd I want you to know I've been collecting comic for 28 years (mostly Marvel, I have a full run of X-men).
i have been thinking of that a lot recently--of how it was and the general acceptance of peoples oddity's at the modern con's
LOL, I wear contacts... does that count? ;)
Hey, it's all good...it's all good. 8)
Hello everyone, as you can tell my name is Kevin and this is my third SDCC (would have been going longer but it took me a decade to give up on any of my friends or family coming with me). Just so you don't think I'm in with the geek chic crowd I want you to know I've been collecting comic for 28 years (mostly Marvel, I have a full run of X-men). I primarily collect comics and limited edition statues and figures (like Hot Toys). This site is a great resource and I look forward to conversing with you all.
Hi everybody!!
I'm Mike. I'm a San Diego native who refuses to leave, haha. My first Con was in 2010 incredibly enough. I had several friends who used to go to Cons when I was younger, but I never heard about it in time to get tickets. I was sooo excited when I finally got to go, now I hope to go every year. Almost didn't make it last year, after striking out on both ticket sales I won tickets at the last second from a local tv station! I've always been a huge cartoon fan, still am at 33! Collected comic books & cards for several years, and always loved action figures. Currently, i'm mainly collecting Star Trek stuff of all kinds! Though I am running out of room. Guess that's a good thing, or I'd probably be out of money too. haha
Hopefully I'll see some of you there!!
Thanks!! Nice to meet ya.
I won the tix from CW SanDiego6 - they have a fb page & I won the tix thru there
(hint:their website posts the "watch&win" answers, get answer & submit to fb page)
It was REALLY last second too. I got the tix the Friday afternoon of Con wknd!
p.s. FOX5 was also giving away tix last year FYI
Definitely want to see the screening "but"... I only have Sat passes. I'm sure you do, but can anyone confirm the necessity of having a thurs badge to see screening? It didn't say on TrekNation page, but I assume that's the case considering it is a Con-linked event.
Hey all! I'm Natalie. This will be my second year attending SDCC but my first year going as press. I write for a toy website called tomopop.com (http://tomopop.com). My specialty is plushes but I also deal with other kinds of anime toys, gamer toys, and Disneyana. Tomopop will be covering the con (and likewise so will I), so I am both excited and a tad nervous. Still, it is great to go to Comic-Con in any capacity!
Other cons I visit include Anime Expo in Los Angeles, DesignerCon, and WonderCon.
Nice to meet you all! ^_^
Morning all! My name is Jeff and I'm from Houston. This will be my first trip to SDCC, and I am super excited! I attend a few cons here in Texas, and I love other nerdy festivals like our wonderful RenFest and Dickens on the Strand. I'm mostly into scifi/fantasy, all the usual stuff LOTR, Firefly, Sliders, GoT, Harry Potter, Invader Zim etc. I'm also a bit of a steampunk. I'm going with a good friend, but look forward to meeting some other people to hang out with for future SDCC's.
Best,
-Jeff

Hello,
I'm new here! I moved to SD from Switzerland couple of years ago. I attended the Con last year for the first time, going again this year as a pro.
Cheers!
Hello everyone!
My name is Megan. This will be my first time going to SDCC. I'm from Baltimore, md and this will also be my first time going to california. I am super excited to be going. I was lucky enough to get a four day pass.
I'm looking forward to going to some panels and checking out the exhibition hall. Also looking forward to the homestuck meetup and possibly meeting Andrew Hussie who is the creator of homestuck.
I love to cosplay, and will be wearing three different outfits through the weekend!
Can't wait to meet new people!
Hi Kappolo! Wow, that's a long move! Did you move for professional/work-related reasons? I've been to Switzerland a few times. It's a beautiful country!school related reasons (at first). Thanks!
Gonna be there next month!Oh absolutely! Where are you from and have you been here before? For steaks I think Strip House is probably my favorite, its not local they also have them in NYC and Vegas. For a local place Taste of Texas is my favorite, been going there my whole life. For BBQ my favorite is either Rudy's or Goode company. I would def suggest getting some TexMex while your here to.
Any recs for BBQ joints? Or a good steakhouse?
there's people lurking..... :o :oHaha thanks Alyssa! 8)
;D, welcome
Haha thanks Jeff. I'm in Orange County. Houston trip for first time to visit some friends.Ah wonderful, I think you'll enjoy it. I love this city, I am a bit biased though ;)
Hi there! I'm Melissa (Mel). I actually joined a while ago, but I'm just getting around to posting. I'm a 9 year veteran of SDCC, going again this year. I'm glad I found the forum... there are still plenty of things that I'm learning.Welcome Mel, Alyssa has certainly put together a needed resource, and there's lots of great peeps who visit here who are always ready and willing to answer questions, so dont be shy at all!!
I live in Raleigh, NC, but I'm a born army brat, so I kind of hail from all over.
I don't do any cosplay, but I always love to see the people who do!

Hello all. They did have a press area where some companies would drop off their propaganda, and a place for the press folks to escape the crowd for a bit. Check out the program guide to see if they still have it, it's been a number of years since I was a press photograher, but it was a handy resource. Enjoy the con, and enjoy this site!
I've just joined hoping to get some knowledge of how the con works. I've attended SDCC once before, but this time I have a press pass and hope to learn as much as I can before going on how the process goes.
I'm a co-owner of two True Blood Related websites. The Vault - TrueBlood-online.com at http://trueblood-online.com and AllStephenMoyer.com at http://allstephenmoyer.com, so I guess you've already figured out that my main purpose in going is to cover True Blood. However, I hope to attend other stuff too.
Any suggestions or help on how to get the most out of the con would be helpful.
Thanks for letting me join and for creating this forum.

Do try to get sleep while you are here--
Welcome to the forum evelienh!
I hope you bought a round of drinks for everyone once you successfully obtained the badges! Glad you're enjoying the forum! Feel free to ask any questions as we have a lot of vets here more than willing to help newbies.
Great to see you here Evelienh! Wow, Belgium! That's a long way to travel. But I'm sure you'll have a great time!
Great to see you here, Kim! I'm glad you had such a fun time at this year's Con and decided to come out of lurking!
What was your favorite moment at the 2012 Con?
Thanks for the encouragement. Yes, after I got past the initial disappointment I realized that it wasn't the end of the world, nor the end of badge sales. If nothing else, I have time to figure out what went wrong and make sure that doesn't happen again. :)i have to second what trans mu said- either start a group or join a group!
Damn there are a lot of cool parents on here! Mine just allude my cosplay and fangirl tendencies to mental illness. :D
Mine think it's strange, but then my entire life my interests have usually been different from theirs, so they've come to accept it by now They're just glad that I can have fun with my husband and kids enjoying the same things.Heheh, my life plan is to be single and childless because of my lifestyle/travelling habits, but luckily I already have a niece (11) and nephew (5) to convert to the dark, nerdy side bahahaa! My friends are smarter, they're all like "please stay away from my kids, if they end up getting into cosplay I will SERIOUSLY KILL YOU!!"
The best part is that when you become a parent, Dogberry, you'll be able to pass on all of your interests to your kids! And then they can turn up their noses at them... j/k! :D
Hi everyone,Con withdrawal, hits early, and often :-\
I'm Sean and I'm Danni's (Luna13darke's) friend from Wales.
I was pretty down when it was all over and we had to go home, so when Danni toid me that tickets were going on sale last week I thought, "To Hell with it, why not?"
Con withdrawal, hits early, and often :-\
I'm Kim, a 25'ish (plus 15) year old guy from Norway.
I have arranged conventions like Comic-Con (on a waaaay smaller scale) for many year and always wanted to go.
This year my brother and I finally decided to go and had an absolute blast.
Been lurking at this forums for a long time. It is a wonderful compilations of important information, so kudos to all the contributors for that.
Didn't notice this thread before, but since this site has been so helpful to me going into this year's con, I'll give it a try.
No surprise, my name is Dave. I'm from Wisconsin. This year was my 8th Comic-Con and I love that its one place I can spend some quality time with my son. He's in his 20's now, so he doesn't spend every moment with dad, but I love meeting new people at Comic Con. I've met many new friends there and that's one of the best parts of Comic-Con, hanging out with so many like-minded geeks, nerds and fans.
Well, today didn't go as I hoped (sorry for any whining), but I am determined to figure out what happened and make a better go of it during open registration next year. I'm still optimistic that I'll get there and might even meet some of you. Like I said, this is a wonderful site and I appreciate all the ideas and information people have shared.
Time to say hello.
My name is Phil.
My first con was 1982. Yes that's right I'm old and grumpy and talk about how great the old days were and they were. Because the classic old artists were still alive. Kirby, Gil Kane, Bob Kane, Carl Barks, Will Eisner, Milton Caniff, Burne Hogarth, Mell Lazarus, Jim Davis met them all.
No I haven't been to all the cons but I bet I've been to more cons than most of you have been alive! Back in the day you could get a back issue for a few bucks, and by that I mean classic silver age for about $5 and issue. Even then it wasn't that much.
These days I tend to get Masterworks reprints because really who can afford a thousand bucks for a comic book.
Hi! I'm fairly new to comics (read a bunch as a kid in the 70s and I've always maintained an awareness of them; just never got into regular buying/collecting) and new to SDCC.
The DC reboot got me and my fiancee into the hobby in a big way, and we scored a Sunday pass this year in the returned ticket sale. Even with a mere 8 hours spent entirely in the completely chaotic and crowded exhibit hall we fell completely in love with the experience. We got our 4 Days + Preview for '13 and we're thrilled -- she's planning costumes already.
I'm buying a lot of titles but I'm still a total noob to collecting and how one deals with artists and dealers and getting sketches and such, so I'm likely to ask a whole bunch of stupid questions over the course of the next year. Please bear with me. ;)
Hi everyone,
I'm Sean and I'm Danni's (Luna13darke's) friend from Wales.
I've been a comic book nerd for over thirty years and the SDCC has always been a just-out-of-reach Mecca.
I'm no stranger to cons, I used to regularly attend the UK and Glasgow Comic Art Conventions in the 90s but I always had an itch to go to San Diego.
So when my friend Danni suggested going to the 2012 con, I jumped at the chance.
I think I speak for Danni when I say we had the most fun four and a half days I can remember for a long time.
I knew it was big, but I didn't think it was THAT big.
I was pretty down when it was all over and we had to go home, so when Danni toid me that tickets were going on sale last week I thought, "To Hell with it, why not?"
We managed to get four day tickets without the preview night for next year.
See you there.
Hi everyone,

Hi my name is lance and this was my first con. Wanted to say thanks for this great forum it gave me a lot of advice so I was only a little lost when I got there.well done Lance, amazed at the reports of people getting passes vs those not getting them. Glad you were successful and see ya next year!
I live in Oklahoma formally Maine and have been into comics for almost 30 years. Went for the first time this year with my wife and she had so much fun that she wants to go back in 2013 so off we go again.
Already got tickets and a hotel so hopefully will see some of u there.

Welcome, i'm glad you found your way here<grin>
I think I was in the audience for those two panels too... wasn't there a Glee panel too?
yes, supernatural & dr who were on sunday again last year. I think, the WD and the GoT was on Friday tho....i could be wrong. I know they weren't on Sat in hall h.
<snip>...well... In any case, glad to back! That's pretty much the nature of this board, after all it is pretty much geared to a single event...<grin> glad you found your way back.
Hey all, I'm not new to the forum (as my post count will prove) but I have been absent for quite some time. For a refresher, I am an associate editor for tomopop.com and will be attending Sdcc 2013 as press for the second time. Hoping I can acquire a press badge for wonder on as well... In any case, glad to back!

Transmute cool. I've talked to a couple people that go to the Trek con In Vegas. They all talk about how much of a great time they had. I was kind of bummed out by comikaze this year. I know it was their second year, but they had several flaws. The main one being wristband pick up. At least I was able to work on my tan waiting in line for an hour and a half to get in. It cool bringing the family to the cons. Everyone has a good time and you get an extra set of hands to carry swag. I was reading some of the posts. You cosplay? I'm working on my TK armor so I can join the 501st.
Cool. Maybe a pink boba fett.
Transmute, you do know a million Fanboys/girls just screamed out in anger reference your princess boba and fairy yoda comment. Don't blame me when a Sith Lord comes to force choke you!
Whateverrrrrrrrrr transmute. Like that would happen.
Greetings to all the wonderful people at San Diego Comicon!!! I'm Super Laundry Bag, Super Hero For The Arts, and will be trying as a professional webseries producer to get tickets to San Diego Comic Con!! So looking forward to meeting and greeting fan out there at my favorite West Coast city destination, and hope that everyone continues to support music, art, theater, and dance in our local public schools!!! Although I work with no budget to produce my You Tube webseries, I try to make sure the storylines and costuming are entertaining. Also, please look out for my film in the Comic-con International Independent Film Festival July 18th-21 entitled "Double Trouble" focusing on identity theft. Thanks for your "POSITIVE" support, and feel free to check out my channel.

Hello everyone just noticed the Welcome thread. My names Ced from San Fernando Valley Ca. I've attended comic-con since 2001 with my family. The wife is the queen of swag, my daughter coplays and DC comics lover a true geek girl. I'm an old school comic book collector. Comic con is our favorite vacation of the year. The friends of comic con website is great very informative for neebies as well as veterans. San Diego is a beautiful city if you have time visit some of the area sites. Coronado island, Cabrillo monument, and Old Town San Diego are great places for a change of pace during con week. One of my favorite events at comic con is watching the medieval fights on the mezzanine level.
I've enjoyed reading here and getting lots of info. I'll be crushed if I don't get a badge because I'm so looking forward to it.
If I go, I will be going alone as most of my friends and family members think I'm nuts. The few family members that probably would go with me are not family members that I want to spend extended time with. I'm looking forward to the freedom to do what I want when I want and not having any expectations on me.you sound like me my first year at sdcc....except I took my young son & flew across country. You will have a blast & meet a *lot* of new, friendly, interesting people. don't be afraid to talk to people! Khan is very good abt showing people around....<runs & hides>
Hi everyone! I've been lurking around this site for the last few weeks and finally figured I needed to introduce myself. My name is Susan and I live on the Central Coast of California. I'm a comic-con virgin and am planning to go this year if I can get a badge. I'm hopeful which is kind of the theme of my year. I even have a hotel on hold. I'm trying to step out and try new things - CCI being one of them.

Is there really anything close to a bad day at SDCC? Just being there makes you smile and forget everything else that's going on in the world and your life.
Hi Alyssa
I'm not on Facebook, so wouldn't be able to join that group, neither is the missues. Hopefully we can all connect on here or via Twitter.
Hi everyone,
My name is Mark and I in the UK. Me and the missues are hoping to come over for the convention this year, we have been saving for about 2 years now. It's something we both have wanted to do since seeing "Paul" :)
I will be there as a regular punter, but my side job is a film reviewer/feature writer for several print and online sources. You can find me on twitter: @Mark_Searby
Good to meet you all

Hi everyone,
I'm Jenne all the way from Washington DC, this year will be my first comic con *crosses fingers*
I've been reading every single post about the comic con here and I'm just soo excited.
I'll be going by myself :( so hopefully I get to know someone here to hangout with or cosplay with :)
Nice meeting everyone
Great to see you here, Jenne! I hope you find this site to be a good resource!
Hello. Welcome and trust me you will have fun no mater what.
Me and my group are always willing to hang out! Nice to meet you!
nicely done!, thanks for sharing, I'd actually like to hunt down that film on the demise of the uk record shops thanks to your review.
I don't know the ins & outs of the press badge situation but at some point you may want to find the press thread & take a read of it. It seems as tho you qualify for a press badge. I suspect it's too late for this year & of course, it's the least of the worries coming from the UK but every little bit helps <grin>

Hiya.
I've been keeping an eye on this site for well over a year now, and I thought it was time to sign up and say hi.
I'm Penny from Melbourne, Australia. I went to SDCC last year with my partner and we'll be attending again this year. Last year, we spent most of our time in Hall H and the Exhibit Hall but this year I'd like to venture out and get involved in more of the offsite events as well.
And though I didn't post last year, this site was a big help for me as a first timer in 2012. So, I'd like to just say thanks to those that run this site. It's really awesome.

Hi Jose! I'm sorry you weren't able to get tickets on Saturday, but there is hope in the form a a resale. I hope your'e finding a lot of good information on this site. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
Great to see you, Kelly! I'm from the Bay Area, so not too far from you. One nice thing about being in NorCal is that you have the option to either fly or drive to SDCC.
The shows you mentioned always have a huge presence at SDCC, although of course the cancelled ones might have less of a 'panel' presence. then again, they had the Firefly 10th anniversary panel last year.
I know you'll have a great time at 'the mother of all Cons'!
Jose, I'm glad you're finding useful stuff! Yeah, I love that picture of where the lines start!
I guess I should do a "formal" intro!
My name is Barb and I run WhenNerdsAttack.com. My first SDCC was in 2010. I attended again in 2011 but skipped last year which ended up driving me insane. WNA started off as something small, it was actually a subdomain on my personal blog where I shared my Con stories/photos. Then one day I just went for it and expanded it. Now I have 4 people who write and support the website! I've attended a few other conventions as well:
Welcome Barb, love your page you created!! Enjoy the group here, they are pretty awesomesauce!
As far as non-con related interests, I support my Baltimore sports teams. I love to read and I watch way too much TV. Edgar Allan Poe is one of my favorite authors. I love animals as well and help raise money for local animal shelters!

Ah ha! I knew this was Barb. Hi Barb! *Waves* Welcome to the funny farm!
Great to officially meet you, Barb! I've been enjoying your site and your posts for a few years now. Keep the articles coming!
Welcome Barb. been following you on twitter for awhile GREAT JOB !!!
We're just excited to have a 'nerd-lebrity' here. ;)

Hi all... I've jumped right in to posting about the badge getting adventure (!) this weekend, but thought I should come and say hi officially.
My name is Rach & I live in the north of England. I went to SDCC for the first time in 2009 with a group of 5 friends - we rented a condo and had a wonderful time! In 2010 I returned with just one friend and had a completely different but just as awesome experience - I spent a lot of time on my own that year as she and I had totally different interests and found it much easier to get around the exhibit hall without having to check if I still had my friends in tow! I returned again in 2011 with one friend again, though this time we spent pretty much the whole time together. I skipped last year (boo) and hated not being there, so I booked flights in December and crossed my fingers for getting a badge - I was rewarded with 4 day (w/o PN).
This year I'm travelling alone though there are a few people attending who I know, and I'm combining the trip with a visit to Houston to see a friend of ten years who's been to see me in England multiple times and I've never been to Texas. I managed to get a LHR-IHA-SAN-IHA-LHR ticket (with 3 days in Houston either side of SDCC) for £700 which was the price I paid for my direct to SAN flight the last time I went, so I think that was pretty good going - hence snapping it up before I had a ticket!
Looking forward to hanging out here more in the lead up to this year's con! :)
Hi Everyone!
My name is Kelly and my partner and I are from Sacramento, CA. This will be our first time going to SD Comic-Con and we are super psyched!
I don't have much experience attending comic conventions but last year, while on vacation in Seattle, we happened upon the Emerald City Con, ditched our original travel plans and spent an entire Saturday attending panels and checking out the exhibit halls. It was great fun! Since then, I knew I had to try to attend the mother of all Cons at least once in my life. Luckily the gods were looking down on us this past Saturday and we were both able to score 4 day passes!
My genre of interest is science-fiction/fantasy and I am a big TV series enthusiast (Buffy, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica -the reimagined series, True Blood, GoT, Dexter, The Walking Dead etc.).
This forum was extremely helpful in assisting me with the badge buying process and I am looking forward to learning more about attending the actual event. Thanks everyone for all of you help :D
Cheers!
Kelly
Hi everyone,
My Name is Jose Morais and I'm from Sao Paulo, Brazil and this will be my first SDCC and my first Con in US. At least I hope so, because I wasn’t able to get my tickets last Saturday. Hopefully I’ll be able to get my badge on the resale.
I have been a Comic book collector since I was 9 or 10. I like to think that I'm a big Comic book collector here in Brazil. I had around 17.000 comics but most of it are the Portuguese edition of Marvel and DC comics. Probably have around 13.000 Brazilian editions and 4.000 US comics.
Really don’t know what to expect from SDCC. For years I have seen pictures, videos, add, interviews and SDCC have become a sort of intangible idea. Let's hope I'll be able to attend this year.
Nice to meet you all
Hi all,
Solo traveller from Singapore for this year's Con. short intro - will die without my coffee (and possibly Wifi, unverified to date).
great big thanks to the very helpful information found on this forum!
They do have a Starbucks inside the con!

Welcome!

Welcome to the forums, Harry! ^-^/ Very cool. I've been hearing that Phoenix Con is steadily growing larger in attendance every year (which is a good thing, ha ha).Thank you. This will be my first Phoenix Con. I believe they now take up two hotels. Look out San diego! 8)
Welcome, Harry! Great to see you here! I hope you find this site helpful! Thanks! Yeah, after reading all the complaints on the SDCC facebook page I figured this is the place to be. :D

Hey there!
My best friend and I are travelling from SG too, although this is our second year in a row. This forum was an INCREDIBLE help to us both - from acquiring our first badges to navigating the convention grounds. Is this your first SDCC?
Hi everyone, this will be my and my boyfriend's first time at SDCC. We were really lucky to snag badges; I got the dreaded white screen on two different machines at home and ended up timing out. My boyfriend decided to try on his iPhone and was successful!
We are both very excited and not entirely sure what to expect. We've only ever been to small local cons with the exception of PAX. :)

Hello. Never been to PAX before, so I can't saw how much bigger and better SDCC is. Let me say this about that. Roll the Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup finals, NBA finals, Indy 500, Daytona 500, Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year, and feeling you felt waiting in line for the Avengers and it kind of comes close to how you will feel being outside of the convention center. Once you walk onto the exhibit floor, it's kind of like meeting god and realizing life is pretty good!8)
I've been going to SDCC on and off since about 1977 (I was 18 then) , I may have gone before that but I really don't remember.
My best friend was into comics and I really was not. I loved Movies, TV shows, books and movie soundtracks and posters.
I remember buying Stephen King's "The Gunslinger" book at SDCC (1980) , I was a really big fan back then and have never even heard of that book. Of course it turns out that the book was a limited edition 1st edition (about) 10,000 were made at a small press Donald M Grant. I bought it for 20 bucks and at some it was worth 700 bucks.
I remember in 1982 Lucas film came to the con and had a slide show of "The Revenge of the Jedi" (before they changed the name)
I'm know of bummed I started going in my 30's.
Ya but when I look back and think that I've could have been going for so many other years it kind of bums me out.
I'll probably mostly lurk, I like reading up on all the info you guys have compiled here, but I'll try to force myself to speak every so often. Now that tickets are bought, the hotel is booked and the flight's been paid for I'm not sure what I'll do with myself for the next five months.

Hello! This will be my first time going to SDCC (I was actually the one to snag all the tickets during the most stressful hour of my life) and I'll be flying in from the east coast to meet up with my friend who lives in California. She's been once before in... 2009-ish? If I remember correctly.

Hello-
I'm Robert, I'm in San Diego, and I've been coming to the Con since '98 regularly. I went to the '94 and '95 con, but only for a couple of days. I just found out about this site recently, while looking for info about WonderCon anaheim.

Hello-
I'm Robert, I'm in San Diego, and I've been coming to the Con since '98 regularly. I went to the '94 and '95 con, but only for a couple of days. I just found out about this site recently, while looking for info about WonderCon anaheim.
Thanks for all of the great info, this place is great! I'll try and help out with info when I can.
Welcome to the forums, Robert! I'm glad that you could join us! I'm a technically a San Diego local too. ("Technically" because I'm not there right now, ha ha.) *laughs*
So we are part of the 1%s now
Aren't we all locals? for like 1% of the year?
Hi all,welcome dave
I've been lurking for the last few months and decided it was time to say hi! My name is Dave and I'm from the Austin, Tx area and last year was the wife and I's first con---wow is all I can say... There was waaaaayyyy more going on than we knew at the con. There is tons of great info here--just wish I'd have found it last year! Here's to many more cons and posts from this guy!

Hey, peeps. Name's Daniel. I reside in Northern VA. This will be my second SDCC; my first being in 2011. This time I've conned my wife into coming along. I've been perusing the forum for about a month now & absorbing a lot of good tips like a tip-absorbing sponge. I look forward to much awesomeness.
Hello and welcome. Congrats on the new one. Stand by for everything to change....in an awesome way. I've got three of my own. Have a two week old, so I'm there with you. The first time you take your kid to a con is a great experience. Both my daughters have been to SDCC several times. This year will be my son's first. Congrats and welcome.
Thanks. Got my little Boba.
hey, tay,
welcome aboard,
pm me if the forum acts up or something doesn't work as it should...<grin>
May the Force be with him!
Great to see you here, Taylor! I hope you're able to pick up badges in the resale!
Hi all! My name's Richard- this will be the third Con for my wife and I. I'm a Production Coordinator in LA. I mostly work on awards shows and such, but I've also done a few low budget movies. We're expecting our first child any... minute.. now. She's a Comic Con baby (I have the adrenaline from The Walking Dead Escape to thank)!
I've lurked on the forum here for a year or so, and used a lot of the advice last year in planning. Looking forward to contributing anything I can to the discussion!

Hi!
I'm newer to Friends of Comic-Con! My name is Taylor. I am a college student in Florida. I was originally going to go school for SFX makeup (to create monsters of course!) but had to detour due to a skin latex allergy :( I typically attend cons here such as Megacon or Spooky Empire. I have a special interest in more horror and sci-fi based things and movies. I am a huge Creature From the Black Lagoon and Walking Dead fan. I'm also a theme park lover and Halloween Horror Nights enthusiast. If I get a badge during resale this year it will be my first year at Comic-Con so I am hopeful!
Hey everyone (waves). Thought I would finally introduce myself here. My name is Jamie and I'm from Minnesota. I've been lurking on the forum here for a year now. Last year was my first time at Comic Con and this year will be my second minus the Saturday badge I still need :D. All I can say is that if not for this forum last year I would have never been able to be as prepared as I was for Comic Con. Thanks to everyone's advise on here I was able to not get completely overwhelmed for the four days.
Welcome to the forums, Richard! Congratulations! Wow, that's a very cool job. I think my other dream job would have to be in production--I love the behind-the-scenes coordinating of shows, events, and concerts. Ha ha. (Alas, I'm on a forensics route, which is cool too. Ha ha.)

Thank you! My gig isn't very flashy- I usually handle all the logistics for shows. Phones, internet, tables & chairs, printers & copiers... that sort of stuff. But I have managed to work on some pretty neat shows. I usually work the Oscars (6 years now), MTV Movie & Video Awards, Scream Awards, Emmys, and a few others. My favorite jobs are when I get to work independent film- I've Associate Produced and AD'd a few low budget movies, and have a great time doing it. Not bad for a kid that grew up in a tiny town in Idaho, dreaming about being in the movie industry. What's your forensics focus? Still going to school?
Hello!
Well, I'm Alexia, but rarely people call me by name, so you can call me Ale, that's fine. I'm from Brazil (Campinas, near São Paulo). I'm hard of hearing and I'm going/studying at a film school(and yes, it's a challenge).
About SDCC, this year is my first year, and I'm going as volunteer! :D I'm pretty excited for this experience.

Ale, welcome to the forums! Film school sounds interesting. Are you interested in acting or producing?
I'm sure volunteering will be exciting! Here's a good thread to get started on what to expect: http://www.friendsofcci.com/forum/index.php?topic=14.0
Check out the "List of Helpful Threads" in my signature for more info about various topics on Comic-Con. ^-^d
I'm sure you will find several things during SDCC to help you out in your career.
I'm interested in producing, probably I'll focus in screenwriting, but who knows? I still have time to decide.
Thanks for the links!
Hey everyone,
My name is Jason and I'm from Zurich, switzerland. I have never been to comic con but I'm a comic book fan since forever. My favorite heros are Iron Man and The Silver Surfer and my favorite villains are Red Skull, Doctor Doom, Magneto and the joker (of course).
I can't wait to see some of you at comic con some day
Welcome to the forums, Jason! ^-^/ Wow, Switzerland! I'd love to visit the country some day--the landscaping is just beautiful.
I know that you'll be able to join us all at Comic-Con some day too. (In response to your thread, I'm glad that your brother is improving!)
Transmute Jun: Paris comic con is great in some parts it feels like a parody of the geek culture though but otherwise its cool
Welcome Nancy, I see we will be attending some of the same off site events (Veronica Mars, w00tstock, Nerdist), hopefully you'll be able to get passes for some of the con days
Great to see you here, Nancy! Welcome!
You definitely have the right attitude. There is so much to see and do outside of the Con that you would have a great time even without badges! Heck, you could even get a bunch of swag just walking around in the Gaslamp in front of the convention center.
I don't see the Walking Dead at Petco on your list!!!! ;) Also, keep an eye out for Nerd HQ, because they have their own panels. IIRC, they usually have a Nathan Fillion panel. You'd probably also enjoy the Geek & Sundry headquarters.
That being said, I hope you do get badges for at least one day of the Con. I agree that it would be a shame to come so far and not get in.
Hi all!
My name's Nancy and I'm from Sydney, Australia. I've been lurking for a little while, but everyone seems so
nice that I thought I should finally introduce myself.
Hello Nancy. Welcome aboard.
Hi Nancy - in case you're on FB and would like some travel buddies, there's a great group here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/263313320416156/?fref=ts
Welcome to the forum!
I would love to do The Walking Dead Escape, but we're trying to weigh up which we'd
rather rock up to in our zombie get up; Veronica Mars or the Nerdist? haha!
Definitely trying to keep on top of Nerd HQ updates, but tickets went so fast last
year (and so soon before SDCC!) that we're hoping to have all our ducks lined up
beforehand. The very idea of being in the same room as Nathan Fillion...cannot
compute. And thank you for the Geek & Sundry heads up - love Felicia Day!
Definitely Nerdist for zombie makeup. After all, doesn't Chris host the Talking Dead?
And yes, last year G&S had a free HQ where you didn't need a SDCC badge, but they had all kinds of cool events and autograph sessions and meet & greets going on. I'm sure you'd have a great time!
Hi all!

I've never been to Comic-Con either, just our local cons (Supanova, Armageddon) and I went to a Firefly
con in LA a few years ago.
Am hoping to make it this year as my flatmate and I will be in San Diego in July. We're all set for a bunch
of the offsite events (Veronica Mars, w00tstock, Nerdist), but are crossing our fingers for the SDCC badge
resale possibility to try and at least check it out for one day :-)
Pretty much into anything pop culture (especially if it's Whedon or J.J. Abrams related) and music. Nice to
finally "meet" you all!!
Welcome to the forums, Nancy! Glad that you decided to jointhe dark side... I mean, join us. ;p
This is definitely the place to be when it comes to getting the best information for Comic-Con badges. Check out the List of Helpful Threads (http://www.friendsofcci.com/forum/index.php?topic=453.msg6696#msg6696), if you haven't already. I recently updated it to include a few of the exclusives threads as well as the private forum group thread for networking for badge buying during the resale.
Again, welcome to the Friends of CCI Forum! ^-^/
It sounds like this is your lucky year, Michael! Enjoy yourself and make the most of it!
And just to warn you, once you've done one SDCC, you're addicted. You'll go home thinking about attending the next one...
I've been posting here a few months but not introduced myself
My name's Michael. I live in NY, thus m and NY are now explained.
This will be my first SDCC and likely my last for a while cause while I am super excited the cost would be prohibitive to do this yearly. I have been going to NYCC and this will be my 5th year and I go to a smaller show here and there.
Not really into comics per se, but all things entertaiment in general, so while say you wouldn't see me in line getting that comic signed you would see me getting a autogrpaph here and there, and maybe kirkman too! Other than that I used to collect TFs so Hasbro is going to be a highlight for me since they only did one NYCC and missed last year and I miss them!
Lucky that in my second attempt I was able to get 4 Day w/preview, last year my first attempt I was sold out so I came in this year with very little expectations and was so pleased when it worked out, even got an insanely low number in the waiting room (under 250) and was able to get my first choice hotel (quick hands fininshed in 2 minutes without auto fill in) so I guess this year was meant to be!
Hope to see you there!
Okie dokie....I'm stepping up to the plate. I've posted stuff already, but thought I'd say howdy for real. I'm Kitty <hears everyone say "Hi Kitty" and feels like I'm in AA> and I have been going to comic con since the 80's. Eeekk...that makes me sound old. My onions (aka my kids) have been going for about 8 years now and my son thinks he owns the place, running off on his own and meeting all of the artists and writers as well as the vendors. We live here in San Diego, so we come home each night, I bake stuff for our friends.
I'm looking forward to meeting new friends! I'm so glad I've found you guys, it keeps me occupied at work. ;D
So.....HI!!!!
Cookies, brownies, bark (well, I guess technically I don't "bake" bark), hobo toast (especially for Dan Goodsell (Mr. Toast) who hates figs), cracker cookies, muffins, cupcakes, fudge (oops, another I don't "bake"), and at Wondercon, I didn't have a working oven, so I had to improvise and make other goodies with an Easter theme. I need to come up with cool comic book-esque names for my treats. ha
I just hope I don't blab so much, I get banned or something. hahaha!!
I will have to let you guys know where I am and let you grab my goodies. Then you can have some cookies. Ha! I kid, I kid. But for real, if you want someone to notice you, forget wearing a Batman or Vamperella costume, carry a container of baked goods. You'd think I was carrying a tray of brains and they are zombies. It's crazy town! I'll bring baked goods for anyone who wants something. As long at it's under 3 people. Ha, I kid again. I'm getting punchy, I better hit the hay!
Isn't there a board where people can post notes to each other? Does this group have a symbol or something to stand out from other notes? It would be cool to say "hey, I'm doing lunch at 2pm at blah blah, wanna meet?" and stuff, things.
^-^; Ha ha.
No, not particularly at the moment, but this "Off-Topic Chat" area can be used for meet-up threads. (There's also the shoutbox on the main index page of the forum as well. ^-^d)
What exactly is the "shoutbox"? I've seen it on the main page, but confused. It looks like an instant chat box for anyone logged on at that time, though I don't know how anyone would be alerted if someone did chat.
I guess I should finally get around to introducing myself. Hi! My name is Thao and I'm from Sacramento, CA. I got into comics a few years ago when a comic shop opened up near my house. This year, comics have become a bit of an obsession with my BF and I. So I'm both excited for and dreading the amount of comics I'm going to end up buying. Haha
This year will be my second time attending Comic-Con. Last year I was very fortunate to obtain a preview night pass, not so much this year :(. However, I will still get to wander around for four days and am super excited to explore--with more experience and a better game plan (must buy a tiny chair to sit on....).
I am looking forward to attending comic-con this year. It is my second time. The first time I went was in 2004. I am coming from Houston, Texas.
What about my pet rock?
He uses Dragon Dictation, so the video would be kind of boring. How exciting is it to watch a rock talk.
More like another friend of transmute. Break out the tar and feathers!!
Break out the tar and feathers!!
Maybe just feathers. As a Devilstar, she can deal with that. ;)
Greetings, all. I've been doing a fair amount of lurking here over the past year, and I guess it's high time I actually introduced myself. I'm from Canada though I currently live in the U.S. Midwest. I've been to the SDCC in 2010, 2011, and 2012 and I'll be at this year's too. As it happens, I'm not all that well-versed in comics, but I claim some geek "cred" as nearly all the books/movies/TV shows I read/watch are fantasy or science fiction, (or historical). I also like anime a lot, and cosplay (that's me in my avatar -a Devil Star from the old anime "Gatchaman").
Oh, and I'm a friend of Transmute Jun too (*waves* Hi, TJ!)
My pet cat will not be posting here any time soon. He will be boarded at the vet's while I'm in San Diego. :D
Hi, I'm Julie and I'm from Northern VA, right outside of DC. I'm a longtime lurker and finally registered to the forum.
2013 will be my 2nd year attending SDCC and I have a 4 day w/PN. Last year, I only had a Thursday pass and made the most of it.
I will be attending with my sister and my 9 year old son.
Welcome!!!
Welcome aboard Julie.
Cool. Go Wings

There might be too many things to do and not enough time, now that you have a 4-day badge! (Ha ha!)
You'll find it very fulfilling and exhausting for 4 days + PN, but you'll have a great time Julie!
Just prepare your son for the realities of standing in line, and make sure to bring along some snacks and something to do for him every day.
Welcome,
thanks for the compliments abt the forum. I've really tried to make this a knowledge resource and a friendly place.
i don't know what floats your boat but http://www.outsidecomiccon.com/ has amassed an amazing list of stuff, badge not required.
Hello
Thought I should come out of lurking and introduce myself, I’m a many year Comic-Con attender; all four days for the last 6 or 7 years and probably about 12 over all. I was only able to get Thursday and Sunday in the pre-reg sale this year, and was totally shut out in the general, so this is the first year I won’t be going the whole time. I’m disappointed about it, as is my dad who attends with me, but I’m trying to not let what we don’t have overshadow what we do. The fact that The X-Files panel is on Thursday is making up for a lot. :D
I found this board a few weeks ago while doing a search for 2013 ticket give aways/contests and have lurked around ever since. I’m super impressed by all the knowledge you all have collected here, and by how open to trying to answer any question anybody seems to have you are, great job!
Hi. Ive been around for a few months here, but never introduced myself.
I'm Jeremy, and I'm a comic con vet of .. 8 years or so. I'm typically the one in my group that makes sure we all get badges/hotel rooms... a plan. It's exhausting, and non of my friends appreciate it one bit /selfpitty. I even took a day off work to get my friend a 4-day badge.. that I paid for myself! and he might bail on us. /moreselfpitty
Anyways, i never camp out, usually out too late with my friends drinking and being stupid. Last year I missed some panels because I got in line too late, but This year I am going to make sure I go to bed early enough to wake up in time.
Thing i like best about Comic-con is meeting celebrities in the gaslamp district/hotels or even at the con, when i have no idea who they are, and actually having a normal conversation with them. I think many are there to just enjoy comic con themselves, and maybe attend some parties where they can meet producers/directors and stuff. I'm sure they get tired of all the fans going crazy around them all the time. When I get home I usually google them to see what they played in, then im like "oh crap, that was frodo!" or "that was that dude from the office!"
I'm from central California and have driven down every year. This is the first year I am flying. I'm getting too old to handle a 7+ hour drive home right after a week like this.
I'm very opinionated , but also interested and respectful of other points of view. Don't talk much, but do enjoy a good conversation. (This is starting to sound like a dating site application)
This site had been very helpful so far, so ill stick around and keep putting in my opinions all over, which you can safely ignore =)
I might meet some of you this year, but my schedule is going to be pretty crazy.

Welcome to the forums, Matryoshka! Thank you for the great compliments on the forum. I'm glad that this has become a new (but great) resource for you. ^__^d The idea is to make this forum community the to-go place for information and help on Comic-Con.
Hello Friends of CCI! I have been a member for about a week or so and missed this thread somehow. I just wanted to officially say hello! I have been going to Comic Con since 2000 except for 2008. I absolutely love comic con and the community here. Hope to meet up with some of you this year. :)joined a week ago & 68 posts! i am impressed <grin>

Thanks for the assist, Zero. I'm trying to get Pyramid to sign up as coordinator for the Thurs one. :P
Whenever people talk about lurkers, I feel like I should close the blinds or put more clothes on or something….
you will probably have a hard time deciding what not to get.
I'll be there for the whole Con, arriving on tuesday so I can get over my jetlag (a nine hour time difference takes some extra preparing ;) )
Welcome Breuls & if i officially didn't do it before, welcome reshef all tho after all the conversations abt tuesday's meet up for the movie Pacific Rim, i must have.
regardless, breuls, check out all the meet ups- the big one being after the con on Sunday
Welcome BreulsThanks!
regardless, breuls, check out all the meet ups- the big one being after the con on Sunday, the person who's organizing it is on Vaka but will be back shortly. if you haven't already check out the lanyards so you'll know what to look for when you spot one of us. but there's also a meet up planed for wednesday mornign for breakfast- it'd be a great way to get the lay of the land before the event.I'll have a look. :)
@Breuls, Glad you're delurking, because everyone's amazingly friendly here and this forum is very gezellig, as you'd say.I would. :D
Anyway, the reason why most people get their hotels via TP/CCI is because a large percentage of rooms from almost all of the hotels in San Diego are blacked out for CCI and the bookings are at a subsidised rate. As a result, you'll notice everyone going into a frenzy trying to score a room at that special price (especially in a downtown hotel) - it's almost like a lottery, the way your average chances are. I'm glad you managed to book a room directly through the hotel, was it difficult at all to get a room?Well, yes and no. There were (and still are, I guess) plenty rooms available on the edges of the city, and the hard part was just comparing prices on several hotel booking websites. But eventually, you'll find something that's doable. I have something near the sports arena now, which should be okay; not too far from the Green Line so I should have a decent connection to the Convention Center.
Hello Peter. Congrats on being lucky to attend this year. It is well worth it!I'm counting on it. :)
Hi everyone -
I've been one of the dreaded lurkers for a while now; I'm pretty outgoing in person but painfully shy online, so I hope you all will forgive my reticence.
-Lora
Great to see you posting, Lora! I'm glad you've found useful information here, and I know you'll have a great time at the Con!
Hello everyone,
I'm Jaime from Santiago de Chile. I'm a second year sociology major (and currently getting my certificate on social anthropology) and next year I'm leaving to Chicago for an exchange program, so I'm pretty excited about that. That being said, I've been to a few places in the US before (as in Washington and Florida for the holidays with my family, which was pretty fun).
I've been to a great deal of anime fests and video game conventions here in Chile but the chilean Comic-Con is quite new (it's only been about two years since it began) but it's not as massive and elaborate as SDCC (we did have Billy Boyd last year, so that's something, haha). I'm really interested in going to SDCC next year so I hope I can get my hands on some badges.
I'm learning a big deal about SDCC through this page, so thank you so much for having it available (it's been really helpful).
Hey everyone. Another noobie here :P . I live in San Diego (convenient!) and I've attended CCI/SDCC the last two years in a row. Last year I managed to only get a single day Saturday pass. I had hoped to get a four day pass for this year, but had to settle for a Saturday and Sunday passes. Maybe next year will be my year and I'll finally snag a 4 day pass *Fingers Crossed For Pre-registration*. Before moving out west, I was big in the Con scene out east and made it to Dragoncon, Chicago Comic Con, and others, yearly. I'm a Con addict! Lol. I sadly don't have any fellow geek friends out here in SD, so I'm hoping to make some! SDCC was a lot of fun, but going alone isn't exactly my cup of tea lol.San Diego is like Geek Mecca. You should have no problem meeting people with your interests. Glad to have you here.
I'm already eagerly awaiting next years CCI show, as well as looking at going to Wondercon and few other SoCal cons for the first time.

Welcome! Now go over to the other link-- just kidding.
Be sure you post your reviews after the show. :)
Hello Everyone!
My name is Melissa, I am 35yrs old and live in Northern NJ. I will be attending my very first Con this year. I am going to NYCC, on October 12th. Just the Saturday as I can't really afford to go all of the days.
I am a huge fan of the Walking Dead, True Blood, Marvel and all sorts of fangirl things!
I look forward to getting to know everyone and to attend NYCC!
Hi!
My name is Valerie, I am 35 yrs. old and live in North Carolina. I have been to HeroesCon the last few years, but I have never been to SDCC. I really want to make this happen for 2014. There is so much great information on this site, so I should be prepared!
I am a fan of all things Marvel, Doctor Who, Sherlock, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and other random things.
I am looking forward to meeting everyone! :)
ValMarvel, Mar-val, Captian Mar-Val... There's a Kree play on words in there somewhere. :)
Welcome to the forum! Feel free to jump in with questions for our merry band of misfits.

Gheeez......my first Con experience was SDCC in 1987 when it was held at the old convention center. I'm a huge Robotech fan (ok.....my son's middle name is Khyron) and miss going to comic cons. I miss being around people who are weird, fun, and know how to have fun, nerdy-type, comic-convention, sci-fi, gaming geeks because this type of crowd rocks! I'm thinking of starting to go to cons again but not sure if this nerdy old lady is too old to fit in :P It would be nice to get dressed up again but too old to cough up the nerve to go solo.

I'm thinking of starting to go to cons again but not sure if this nerdy old lady is too old to fit in :P It would be nice to get dressed up again but too old to cough up the nerve to go solo.
see, i would never refer to myself as old- all tho i gather i am older then the majority of folks attending.
i only notice it when looking at comics - i remember when some of the older ones were first published. <ha> plus i don't really attend parties-
maybe we should have an 'experienced fan' meet up next con.
LOL
Sounds like you've got lots of great con plans, Nicole!
I do and hope to follow through with all either with my partner in crime or solo, although the first option most time is the best. 8)
Greetings ;),
I'm Nicole from Phila, PA and I found this forum via FB from something else I was looking at, needless to say this forum is great. 2014 SDCC will be my first time attending (hopefully) as I have began the planning process. First con I attended was Wizard World Philly 2013 and loved it. Attended the John Barrowman panel (seen other panels online) and purchased a TARDIS, couldn't have been any happier. Even took my nephew, friend and her son which they enjoyed as well.
I had planned to attend NYCC 2013 but waited to late to get tickets. Now I'm setting my sights on SDCC 2014, Vampire Diaries Con and Supernatural Con that take place in Jersey 2014. All are marked in my calendar w/reminders. Since my sister moved to ATL, I'm going to make a plan to attend Dragon Con 2014 also. I already have cosplay ideas for SDCC, priced airfare and pre-booked two hotels, so I just need a badge. And any advice from vets of SDCC to a first timer. Sometime in my future I would love to attend Supanova in Australia and MCM Expo in the UK.
no worries abt the horrible introductions- we're all a bit wonky <grin> or perhaps i should just speak for myself. lol
If going alone, I think the best thing to do this early in the process is to find someone to room & team up with. This way you can help each other with badges and look for a hotel room too.
Hello Everyone!
My names is Jessica, I'm from Central New Jersey. Next year will be my first SDCC (fingers crossed). Finding this forum was great!! I was a bit nervous about going alone, but after reading through the forums you guys have made me feel at ease. I have attended NYCC for the past 3 years. This year I'll be there on Friday. :) I'm a fan of Torchwood, Lost Girl, Doctor Who, Walking Dead, and the list goes on.
I guess that's it, God I'm horrible at online introductions, sorry :)
Hey, I'm Loralei.
I'm new-ish to SDCC community; I've had badges both in 2012 and 2013, but only attended in 2013. I have been apart of this forum for about a year, but have never posted. Guess that's where my shy demeanor kicks in, haha.

I've been to my fair share of cons since I was 11, none outside of Florida, except for SDCC now. I find myself to be more of a sci-fi fan when it comes to TV. I’ve noticed for the most part that we can count on them to be on for at least one full season, and then get canceled somewhere around seasons 2-4.
Comic Con ’13 was my first time on the other side of the United States. I had an incredible time out there, despite going alone, and I can’t wait to go back. Reading this forum and talking to some of you helped me prepare for my trip out there, so I thank-you all.
Now all I hope is that we don’t preregister on my birthday (Nov. 16th), even though it would be a nice birthday present to myself.
Hello!
I'm back!
Sorry for the long long time I haven't been in this forum!
Cheers
I'll try to come back every day to the forum (I don't want to spend thousands of dollars in comics for Chris :D)
Hello!
I'm back!
Sorry for the long long time I haven't been in this forum!

i kinda see it like, re-using a good thing from another forum<grin>You know, I've never looked into local con's. I'm more interested in the Hall H style panels for big movies and tv shows at the moment. (Not saying I don't love the floor too)
welcome & good luck in the pre-reg sale. Are there any decent local con's in Iowa?
I visited the state once when i was rock climbing. Consequently then only place i went was the City of Rocks, i don't even remember what large city it was close to.
Just going to steal a little something from another forum I'm a part of..

Hello everyone! I've been lurking for a couple months, but I couldn't resist getting involved any longer, so here I am!
Misha - Portland, OR - turn 18 years old on April 12th
SDCC first timer this year! Will also be my first time in Cali.
I have yet to attend any sort of con, but I hope to spend at least one day at the WW Portland Comic Con in a couple weeks.
I love music, concerts, dancing, etc. (Bet you couldn't have guessed by my username ;)) I'm a pro concert-goer at this point, which I feel is helpful preparation for battling SDCC. Bring on the huge crowds of sweaty people, long hours waiting in line, aching feet/body, and celebrity encounters!
My main fandom interests that I intend to pursue at SDCC are: Hannibal, Almost Human, Sleepy Hollow, Marvel, Orphan Black, Star Trek, Teen Wolf, Supernatural, and literally anything involving Lee Pace, Tom Hiddleston, and Zachary Levi. Obviously I'll be keeping very busy lol. Here's to hoping I can land a 4 day w/ preview badge, and lots of Nerd HQ panel tickets!

Hi Ross and Misha, you have come to the right place!
I live in San Diego, and I've been going to Comic con for awhile, but this group of people has a ton of good info. I don't post much but I'm in here a lot as we get closer to the event. Its nice to have all of these resources.
Hopefully I can give some helpful info sometime.
...The Broken Yoke for a hearty brunch before preview night...
I'm down for this again. Hopefully, I'll focus on eating the food while it's still warm as well as catching up with everyone...!
You let The Man get you down, The Man wins - I say, Damn The Man.
"I can't lie to you about your chances, but... you have my sympathies."
We'll have to have a pool on who Hardwick's guest(s) will beNow that is a good pool bet. The meetup was great and I certainly would like to organize one again. If I score PN tix I will be in town in time to hit up Broken Yolk again before I start lining up.
Peter Capaldi ?

Wow, multiple meetups for the Con?!? You guys are all right :)
down the street from the brokenyoke away from the con is a *great* cupcake place
because we may or may not like cupcakes & stock up for the con.

Hello All! My name is Louie and I have been collecting comics since I was a kid, long time fan. Still read a few issues per month but not as much I as I want to. I have a 2 yr old at home so that takes up most of me and my wife's time.
I have attended SDCC for the last 3 years, and have a blast every time! Definitely keeps getting harder to get badges and I think this forum is a great idea to keep plugged in. I am attending solo this year and hoping to get sat and sun badges. I am willing to team up to increase my chances or help someone else. I will also post in the registration discussion thread.
This is a great community and I will contribute however I can leading up to the big show!
Hi,
I've actually been reading this forum for a while (years?) to get info on the con, but didn't sign up until this week. I've been going to SDCC since 2009, which was basically the last year it wasn't a big deal to get tickets (I got a Saturday badge in April and they still had like 20% inventory on them). I tend to spend most of my time in the exhibit hall and photography is a huge part of my experience there the past few years. I'm not a pro by any stretch, but I plan portions of my days at the con around taking photos.
I have some offbeat tips I've picked up over the years I'll post in the tips for newbies thread. Glad to be here - and to finally come out of hiding ;)
-Lee
Hi, I'm Bradd from Massachusetts.
My name's Aaron and I'm a long time lurker who finally decided to start posting.
I'm a huge Comic Book guy who attends Comic Con more so for the Comics and Comic panels than the movie/tv show lineup.
I've lurked on this forum in past years. :X But finally decided to join
Welcome KEPinion and jujubaSD!!!
It was my lurker recruitment drive that convinced you, right? :o
As a matter of fact...I think it was. O0
It definitely was for me!
Can I be allowed to hold the reeds?
I would say my biggest regret is that I have lived in SD for 14 years now and never got to SDCC until 2012.
:: weeps in corner ::
LOL. Are you from SD? I would highly recommend the SD Comic Fest. It's only been going the last two years, but it was started by the "kids" who started comic-con back in the day and is organized by a lot of the original SDCC peeps. It is very small, but special and mostly about comics and sci-fi. You get to meet and spend time with all the special guests and artists. I will have no regrets when it comes to SD Comic Fest. I've volunteered with programming the past two years and really enjoyed my time there.
Hi all,
I am Mel and I live in San Diego. This will be my 3rd year going to Comic-Con. I was lucky enough to get 4-day no PN during pre-reg and I couldn't be more thrilled. I have been lurking for a while and decided to sign up yesterday b/c I saw a couple threads I thought I could be helpful.
I would say my biggest regret is that I have lived in SD for 14 years now and never got to SDCC until 2012. It was one of those things where b/c it was local and b/c for many years as a member of the press I could go to press reg at the Con and just sign up on-site using my business card or press credentials I just kept thinking, "I will take the time off next year" b/c it was something I felt I could always do, until I realized how hard it was becoming and decided I'd better go before it was impossible! Of course, I got hooked and being unable to travel out of down due to special needs elderly doggie, SDCC has become my one and only "staycation" and I feel incredibly lucky and grateful to have it in my own backyard.
I would also like to add, for hope, that last year during pre-reg I was so far back in the queue all passes were gone when I got to the front. Then in general sale, I just kept getting the white screen or screen with "waiting room is full tickets are likely gone" message immediately into the sale and never got in a queue at all! I'd given up hope mostly but was chosen in the resale lottery and was able to get a 4-day pass! So it's not over until it's over. I know how devastating it can be to get shutout in the online sale. I am in my late 30s and I actually cried and punched a pillow! So I just wanted to say it's not over until it's over!
Welcome to the forums, Mel! I'm glad you decided to join as a member of our online community. It's always nice to have to new people add to the experience and to the plethora of information we have here.
Woo-hoo! Another S.D. local! (I'm an S.D. local, and every year, I thank the lords and ladies of Comic-Con International that I don't have to worry about hotel space. Hahahahahaha!)
^__~
Thanks, Zero! We really are lucky we don't have to worry about hotel! I wouldn't be able to afford it if we did. Everything about attending I feel grateful for it....from just having a badge to not having to travel, it's all amazingly good fortune!
I've always just taken the trolley. The special passes they have for SDCC are a cool keepsake. I have gotten on at the SDSU stop and the trains aren't packed yet so I always find a seat to chill out on the way in and it's so much fun to watch all the different people cosplaying board the train on your way!
Oh, yeah! I've gotten the special passes for the trolley before. They're cool, ha ha.
I actually live rather far away from the nearest trolley station. It takes about 1 hour minutes by bus to the closest trolley station (two bus transfers plus waiting time for the buses to arrive), and if I stay past 8:00 pm at con, I won't be able to make it back on the bus in time to get home. >__<;
Where do you live? You could always drive in and park for free at Qualcomm and board the trolley there. It's still relatively early on the route. A lot of people board there. Trolley passes for all days are $20 I believe which is cheaper than parking, unless there is more than one of you then after about 3 trolley passes you are in the pricing territory of parking downtown.
Yes, from what I remember from previous years, the trolley passes are usually $20 for five days ($16 for four days). In my group of friends, yes, there is more than three of us. Plus, some of us are volunteers, so we like to get to the convention center very early and park there. *laughs* As for where I live, I'm in the La Jolla area.
Yeah, if you are carpooling more than 3, doesn't make sense to trolley. Trolley does run pretty early. If we catch the earlier one from here, which we did last year we got to the CC a little after 5am. Not too bad! I signed up to volunteer, hoping to be able to do it pre-con since I already have a 4-Day badge.
Hi everybody!Hi Dr. Nick!
I've been lurking for a while now, but I've finally decided to delurk. My name is Michelle, and I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area. I've attended SDCC twice (2009 & 2011), and after a few years off, I'd like to try to get to SDCC 2014. And I really hope that the forum will help me with that once the general sale begins, which is the main reason I've decided to register.
My main interests are Doctor Who (note the username :) ) Sleepy Hollow, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and just good genre TV in general. I'm also a huge comic book geek and a novice cosplayer. Nice to meet you all!

And I see that you're a Simpsons fan as well! Hi Michelle! I'm from the Bay Area too! There are a bunch of us around here.
If you PM Batgirl, you can join a badge buying group for general registration, which should help you out. And you should find all other kinds of helpful advice around the site!
Welcome to the forums, Michelle! ^__^/ (Yes, I totally noticed the username, ha ha.)
Keeping up with the forums is definitely a good idea to get help and information on badge sales, hotels, and the like. Start with the Registration and Badges (http://www.friendsofcci.com/forum/index.php?board=12.0) section, if you haven't already. You can also check out the thread linked in my signature, which has a lot of good links from various parts of the forums as well.
Hi Michelle! Looks like you might be a Bravest Warriors fan too! Wishing you luck in the General Registration! Everything is ok!!
This forum has been very informative and I am glad to have found this wonderful community!
Seeing more folks from the Bay Area puts a big ol smile on my face. Hi all!! i'm a newbie myself and these forum folks have been uber helpful in my short time here.
Hi, Mel! I'm also a Mel :)
Hello everyone, my name is Phil, this will be my first SDCC ever, I am in as a volunteer but will attempt to pick up badges when the general sale happens. I first really heard about SDCC when I was living in Ventura, CA in 2002-2003. I currently reside on Guam out in the Pacific Ocean. Draw a line south from Tokyo, one east from Manila, where the lines intersect you will find Guam.
I just stumbled upon this forum after I was accepted as a volunteer for this year's con and started to look up what other had to say about volunteering. This forum has been very informative and I am glad to have found this wonderful community!

I've tried for years to get tickets, scored them last year and then, at the last minute, was unable to go.
Might as well de-lurk. Joined last year but have been hiding.
Names Clarissa and I'm from Canada. This will be my first SD con. I've tried for years to get tickets, scored them last year and then, at the last minute, was unable to go. I was going to stop trying for tickets but I volunteered at the Montreal Comic Con and had such a blast I decided to keep trying. Now that I have the tickets fingers crossed I finally make it this year.
I'd just like to say, as a newbie to the event, the info people post here is beyond valuable. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time and effort to provide it.

Hi, I'm Will. I don't have much experience going to Cons. I've only ever gone to the first two C2E2s here in Chicago. I'm still very new to the whole thing but I do love it. I'm happy I found something like this on the web and hopefully I meet a lot of interesting, cool people. Nice to meet everyone.

Put this in a different thread, so repeating myself with a bit of an edit here:
Hello! Just registered. Long time lurker of the forum! From Northern Ireland in the UK. Hoping to get a badge in the upcoming sale and take part in a bit of craic (Northern Irish word look it up!) here on the Forum.
Have booked to come over and spend the week leading up to the Con in Vegas and if I am lucky enough to get a badge will then head to San Diego.
Welcome Jonny! I have a friend who comes to visit from Norn Iron every year and we hit up the Irish pub The Field, he loves it. So stop in there during your visit! It is in the heart of the SDCC hub bub and a nice respite for a bite and a pint!

I realized I never posted here so thought I should now!Hi Sandy,
A hello to everyone. I'm Sandy and have been a lurker until I saw how great everyone was and finally decided to get over the shyness to take part in some conversations. I've been to CC before, but was crazy enough to commute since I only live about an hour away. This is my first year being prudent and going for a hotel so I can actually sleep and not be so exhausted ;D
I love reading all the advice and stories here. Thanks so much for creating this place! I can't say how helpful it's been.
heyo.. i'm denni and i've been sneaking around here for a bit. i went to sdcc a couple years ago and had a blast! did some cosplay and met amazing people! i definitely learned what to do/plan/how to survive and hopefully i go this year.
i'll be solo so hopefully i find some hotel buddies to make it easier. i'll cross that bridge if i score some tickets. good luck everybody :)
Hey everyone! Just joined this forum. Was able to get in and order my SDCC 2014 badges! This will be my first SDCC, very excited. Will definitely be checking this forum out a bit in the coming months; for tips, tricks, hotel (roommate), places to eat etc..
Much planning needs to be done to get to SDCC from Florida.
Hi! I'm very new on the forum, I've been reading threads for some weeks now and I finally decided to sign up. I'm really sorry for the spelling and grammar mistakes, I'm French and I'll probably make some! I'm one of the lucky ones who got badges for SDCC 2014, so I'll be travelling from Paris this summer with two friends to attend the con! We're all very excited and very nervous with all the preparation left to do ><
Don't hesitate to ask anything if you're curious :)

Great to see you here, Koop! We have someone else from Oahu (Angel_K) who is attending as well! I bring my entire family to Comic Con with me as well (my kids are 11 and 13 now). I know you will all have a great time!
[/quoteWelcome koop1974!
Thank you both for the welcome and the info on Angel_K, I'll check the posts for addition tips :D
Hi, my name is Ursula from Oahu. My family (husband, two children ages 9 & 11) will be attending the SDCC (thurs & sun) this year for the first time. I'm extremely excited and stressed. I'm slowly working my way through the forum and seeing so much helpful hints that will hopefully make things easier. I'm sure it will be a great experience and hope my kids think so too.

Zero and angel_k - Thank you both for the welcome. Besides SDCC, the kids are looking forward to Legoland. For myself, I really want to go to the San Diego Zoo. I've never been to a "real" zoo before, if you've every been to ours here you'll know what I mean.
I am kicking myself in the butt that I didn't book our flights the day we got the badges. The prices have gone up about almost $200 since and with the four of us going, I just cringe. I just hope we have luck with the hotels so we'll just need to rent a car when we go to Legoland and not the whole trip.
If I can't make it to the meet ups, is the next best thing to buy a Friends of CCI lanyard and hopefully meet some of you?
Hi all...new to the board.
I'm from Queens, NY and have been attending SDCC since 2002. This will be my 13th Year.
While I'm sure most of us share the same interests, my current main interests include Marvel Comics (pretty much reading everything nowadays, but Silver Age fan at heart), Walking Dead (comics and show), Masters of the Universe, Pro-Wrestling (recently got back into with the launch of WWE Network).
Found out about this board on reddit after the aftermatch of SDCC hotel reservations and after looking around the board, figured I'd may very well fit in.
See you all around the boards.
Hello everyone! After lurking around since last year and finally signing up this year, I figured it should be time to say hello.
I'm from San Francisco, CA and had been attending WonderCon for awhile and decided to make the jump to SDCC in 2011 and I haven't looked back.
I'm into comics, tv/movies, video games and all the geeky, nerdy stuff that they jam pack in SD for 5 days. Most recently I've become fascinated by cosplay and enjoy the work and intricate details they put into their costumes and designs that make you appreciate their art and passion.
After getting so much from this site about tips and advice on how to make the most of your con experience, I hope I can give back from my experiences as well.
Hope to see you more on the boards as well as on the convention floor.
FP3
FP3, nice to see another Bay Area person on the board! There are quite a few of us here.Hey TJ, yup, catching up on them. Unfortunately I won't be making Tuesday's, or Wednesday's breakfast, but I plan on hitting up the others. I was even considering helping out on the Thursday/TBD one, so I'm trying to scope out a place that I've frequented everytime I hit SDCC, and am awaiting responses from them. Definitely flag me down! Be great to meet up w/folk.
Michael, I've seen you posting elsewhere on the site. I will definitely be looking for your FoCCI lanyard at the con. You know about the FoCCI get-togethers, right?

FP3, I think maybe I have seen you in Sulley/Mike costumes...
That's probably me. I haven't run into another mike or Sulley yet.
I found this forum through Reddit this morning while trying to figure out if I wanted to keep my TP hotel reservation. I'm kind of new to forums participation in general, including Reddit, and usually keep to Facebook and Twitter. And that's the problem. I wasn't getting enough info from those sites. I'm hoping to get a bit more involved here since most of my friends aren't really that into Comic-Con.
About me, I'm 35, male, 4th year attendee/volunteer (I do both to guarantee preview night admission), San Diego native, and am just looking to connect with ppl with similar interests at Comic-Con or try something new that I never realized I would like!
I attend SDCC mainly for the amazing cosplay, chances to try out unreleased video games, wandering the Exhibit Hall aimlessly, and attending panels like TWD, GOT, Psych, and less popular ones like Cartoon Voices. I also really like venturing into downtown SD for all the free(ish) events and specials, but always ALWAYS make time for the Nintendo Lounge.
Anyway see you on the forums!

You know, I don't think I did this...
Comic collector for years...slowed down in my 30s...now pick up some select books...always wanted to go to SDCC and have been lucky to do so for (what will be) the past 5 years. SDCC has spoiled me in that after going, all the other ones (like Wizard for example) just kinda pale in comparison. Haven't been to NYCC yet, but hoping to.
East coaster here, Philly burbs, born-n-bred here...interests are comics and anything comic related, comic art, statues, and the like. Do play a bit of video games (Sony here, PS3 & 4), and funnily enough I'm playing Lego Marvel Super Heroes a lot (go figure).
Lurked here for a bit, but just recently started picking up the pace of participation here...it's a fantastic board, with many, many helpful information and folk, and it's a blast to be a part of. Hope to meet more than a few of you in 3 months...I'll be looking for those Friends of CCI lanyards...
- Michael
PS: You all *did* buy at least one lanyard, yes? :)
Greetings and salutations!
I am sorry but, I've been hanging around here since I followed a post from Alyssa on the SDCC FB page after the badge sale and I have not introduced myself.
Hi, I'm a 40 yr old female from Austin TX. This will be my 1st SDCC, even though I've been trying to get badges for years now. My 13 yr old daughter is joining me on this adventure. We do a lot of Cons here in Tx, but we are out of our minds excited for SDCC! It really is amazing that we got badges since we have been shut out of badges since 2010. I can't even begin to explain how fracking excited I am to be going this year! It will be my daughter's 1st trip to California.
We do some Cosplay and are going as 11th and River Song one day and Arwen and Frodo on another day.
Our loves are Doctor Who, Star Wars, Marvel, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Tolkien, Fire Fly, Star Trek, Game of Thrones, Anime (My daughter is totally addicted to Fairy Tail right now) and many more. I also collect comics and toys and have passed this addiction on to my little girl. We also enjoy playing video games and table top games, and I have a huge crush on Wil Wheaton that goes all the way back to STNG.
Thanks for all the great people on this forum and I hope to meet some of y'all at one of the meet ups
Welcome to the forums, lilred! (I have a habit of abbreviating usernames, mostly because I'm lazy, ha ha.)
Glad that you could join our online community, and it's great to hear that you and your daughter got badges for Comic-Con this year!
If this your daughter's first trip to California, I hope you'll get a chance to do some sightseeing in San Diego or Los Angeles while you're here. (Maybe squeeze in a trip to Disneyland, California Adventure, San Diego Zoo, or SeaWorld, if you aren't too exhausted from con, ha ha.)
^__^
Greetings and salutations!Greetings fellow Texan! I am from the Austin area also. You guys are going to have a blast! Which cons in the area have you attended? We most recently went to Sci Fi Expo in the Dallas area. The next one will be Comicpalooza, which we really love attending. Again-welcome to the forum!

Zero thanks for the welcome, lilred is fine it's a nickname that stuck years ago :)
We are coming in real early Tuesday and are hoping to at least hit the beach and the Zoo before we head home late Monday. We were hoping to stay longer and go up to LA but she is in a summer Engineering program and has to be back by Tuesday.
I read a lot, mostly YA novels. I'm a big Harry Potter fan, as well as Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire. I cover Teen Wolf for the website. I also love Archer. Funnily enough, I discovered that I love Archer by sitting through the panel last year at NYCC...while waiting for the Teen Wolf panel.
Yay!!! another Archer fan >:D
Hello! I found the forum because I didn't get my badge approved until after the hotel sale and was lamenting on Twitter that I didn't have a place to sleep.
My name is Jamie. I'm 32, and I live in Brooklyn. I work in the tape archives for the news division of one of the major networks. I have a cat named Merlin. She's evil. As an (unpaid) side job I write for a website called Fangirlish, which is how I'm able to attend SDCC as press this year.

This is my second SDCC but my first as press, so I'm excited and nervous. I last went in 2012, and I was with a friend. This year I anticipate doing a lot of things on my own. I know I missed a lot my first time, so I love that there is so much advice in this forum.
I'm sure I can't be the only New Yorker here, so if any other NYC dwellers are interested in meeting up and hanging out before the con, I am totally up for that.
Welcome jamiesugah!
I echo Jim's - Yay! Another Archer Fan!
I think Archer is hilarious and it's one of my favorite shows. I tried more than once every day last year to get the exclusive Pam dolphin puppet at SDCC but missed out every time. I love the writing and this season has been very different but a lot of fun.
Great to see you here, Jamie! Did you end up finding a hotel?
That's pretty cool that you work at one of the major networks. I'm sure you have a lot of interesting stories to tell about the news (if you could tell them, ha ha).
I love the writing and this season has been very different but a lot of fun.
Thanks for the welcome, everyone!
I did, yes! I went through the "looking for roommates" thread, and dancetomusic and I will be rooming together at the Embassy Suites. When I went last time I stayed in a hostel, so I am very excited about the upgrade in accomodations.
Ha, I don't know about that. We don't see much action down in the archives. Most of my stories would involve some level of me complaining about how no one understands my job.
This season has been pretty great, but I'm glad that they're going back to the spy thing next season. I think this season was a perfect palate cleanser.
I'm sure there has be some inside humor regarding archives. ^__~
So, hey, I just remembered something! I mean, most of my stories are only funny to my coworkers, because there's a lot of insider knowledge needed to appreciate them. But I think this one will work for everyone. All you need to know is that when you do a search in our system, you can clearly tell what format something is (tape, digital video, DVD, etc.). Some of the things that require special handling are even different colors to make it obvious.
I got a call one night from someone who needed clarification on something she was seeing in the system.
Her: I just need to know if this is a VHS or DVD.
Me: (thinks: Um...we don't have anything on VHS) Sure, just give me the number and I can check.
Her: *gives number*
Me: *looks up number* Yeah. This is film.
Her: I know it's a film. I just need to know if it's on VHS or DVD.
Me: No. This is film. As in a reel of film. As in something that goes into a projector.
She was trying to find the DVD of Titanic and ended up finding actual film footage of the actual Titanic.
Hello! I was directed here so I thought I would introduce myself. I am 31/F from Des Moines, IA. 2014 is my first SDCC and I am going solo. I am a big TV nerd and pretty much watch every show imaginable. It has always been my dream to write for a TV show, so I love scripted TV best. I am looking forward to meeting up with some of you!

Hello,
My name is Morgan, I'm a 33 year old Ohioan who lives in Texas, and SDCC will be my first con ever. Last spring I fell hard for the show Hannibal, it got me all wrapped up in twitter and tumblr and deep into fandom love. Last July during Comic Con, I was watching everyone with total jealousy over all the fun that was going down in San Diego, so it was that month I decided I had to try and come this year. Luckily I had my cousin who had been before who was like, "buy your flight now!" "Reserve a room now!" Soon I had everything but the tickets...which I didn't get. but hurray I signed up to volunteer, so I still get to go everyday and I'm pretty stoked to have an inside prespective(even if it's just picking up trash) I'm really excited for this adventure, and crossing all my fingers that Hannibal comes back this year.
Thanks a lot Transmute Jun, it's nice to meet you.
Hello everyone!
My name is Michael. 32 from Los Angeles. After trying for three years to get tickets this will be my first time! I'm going solo but from the friendliness of this page and its posts, it doesn't look like I'll feel like a loner at any time! If I'm not in one line or another or shopping for awesome stuffs, you'll find me downtown looking for the Walking Dead parties.
I think I may have actually purchased tickets to SDCC by a fluke! While in the "queue" I accidentally hit refresh and low and behold...in all it's wonderous glory, there stood before me the heavenly order page. I had to screen capture, photograph, email, and print out my confirmation page just to make sure I wasn't still dreaming.
I'll only be attending SDCC from Wednesday night until Friday evening :( I was actually one of the very few who had to return Saturday and Sunday tickets
OH MY!!!! I could only imagine that pain of having the badge in your hand and then relinquishing it back to CCI. Oh the pain, the horror! Someone buy this guy a drink!!
Transmute, do you speak of the Zombie run? I went once. It was a lot of fun and I would love to go again soon but work has me super tied up :( As it is, I'll only be attending SDCC from Wednesday night until Friday evening :( I was actually one of the very few who had to return Saturday and Sunday tickets
No, not the Zombie run. There is actually an escape course set up at PetCo Park by the Walking Dead people. You can book a time and run the course as a survivor, be a walker (with makeup/wardrobe applied) or a spectator.
http://www.thewalkingdeadescape.com/ (http://www.thewalkingdeadescape.com/)
I believe they are running it on Friday, so you might be able to attend, if you are interested.
Oh this looks fun! Thanks for the link. I attended one pretty similar except you wore a belt of detachable flags around your waist that the zombies would chase after you for. Each flag represented your "health". Once all your health flags were snatched from you, you were "infected" and you would no longer be chased.
In this one, the walkers have stuff on their hands that shows up under a UV light. If they touch you, you're infected.
Hey, I'm Bryan. My wife and I are attending SDCC for the first time this year on Thursday and Sunday. It's my first con, she's been to X-Con in Myrtle Beach, but that is tiny. I'm US Navy, currently living in the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego. Looking forward to July, the more I read about Comic Con the more excited and impatient I get.
First of all Welcome the to the ones before me!
I am Hector Meza also known as Saintocamus, Camus, "The Hooded Bunny" or that weird dude with the bunny ears.
I am from the Imperial Valley which is HOT...... I have meet many from the forum in person during the con.... I like to use my black hooded mask with bunny ears because is creepy and from. I am a Photographer. I was a photographer for Consplayers, but now I am independent :P
I have been a press member before but now I can't even get those hard to get free tickets :)
my first year in SDCC was in 2008 and I went for 2 days and a 1/2..... I sleep 2 nights in front of Hall C or D, I can't remember..... But I was first for 2 days and I got my Tite Kubo autograph that way.
I love sushi, But this year I promised my self to not eat sea food for a year.
Oh and if you guys want I have comic con pics in my facebook page of The Hooded Bunny :P ...... lame plug
no prob 0 <--- see I use an abbreviation of your username >_<
I don't know I just want to know if I have what it takes to say no to something I like so much..... I don't smoke so I want to feel for others in another way :D
So not really a Introduction/Welcome but more of a "Where are they now?" but Alyssa or any of the mods, where's Khaaaaaaanh!!!?? I know many of us go through a dormant time, especially post SDCC or through the holidays, but he hasn't been on forever. Is he OK? No prob if he chose to drop out, but as long as that's the case and he's not debilitated or kidnapped somewhere. Anyone know?
Due to work and personal obligations, he's been inactive for a while.
He hasn't been kidnapped or dehabilitated, I promise. Ha ha.
(Aw, Chris C and I don't get a name drop, ha ha. *runs away in tears*)
;p
Hi, my name is Mitch. This will be the first SDCC for me and my wife. We live in North Carolina and have gone to the Heroes Con since the 80's, we have been to Dragon Con for the past seven years, we've also gone to a couple of the Wizard World Cons, and Star Wars Celebration V. We hope to get into the Marvel, Warner Brothers, and Star Wars panels. Probably an impossible task but the Marvel panel is the most important to me. We have four day tickets plus preview night, can't wait to get there.
Good to know and while I've felt on an occasion or two with me specifically he was a bit harsh and less than "mod" diplomatic, I like the guy and he's made many positive and helpful contributions. Come on back Khanh! ;)He won the ComicCon decoding contest today.
Thanks Zero. SDCC is nothing like any Con I've been to before. Getting ready for it is too much like work. lol. I read this forum everyday, study the maps, and look at previous years schedules to try to plan ahead. The last two weeks before the Con will be a mad scramble though. I hope you have a great time at the Con!

My name is Lee and I am a 28 year old male and I am currently living in ABQ, NM and by the end of this year my plan is to move to NYC (and I look forward to checking out the NYC ComicCon in the future as well). I have lived in quite a few places. Ohio (multiple locations), Oregon (couple locations), border of AZ/Utah, New York (upstate just outside of Ithaca), and currently in New Mexico. And have visited quite a few places in the USA as well (hoping to get to Ireland/UK in the next couple of years and then to various locations around the world).
2013 was not only my first SDCC and my first time to San Diego but it was my first comic convention in general. Since then I have been to the local con and in about a week I will be attending the local expo. I will be back to San Diego and SDCC this year as well (I hope to be able to make it regularly moving forward). I think living in NYC will make it easier to attend NYCCC and still allow me to go to SDCC(hopefully).
I like to have fun and feel like it can come in many shapes and sizes. Some of the things I like to do are considered "extreme" but I only do them occasionally. Things such hang gliding, sky diving (actually went about a month ago while in Phoenix), etc. But I also like to stay in and read, go running, watch movies and tv, go hiking, etc as well. I am up for trying most things at least once.
TV and movies (including web only programming such as Geek & Sundry) are probably the biggest thing I get geeky about but I also enjoy video games (probably the thing I get second most geeky about), comics, books, music (mainly just listening to when driving and running), comedians, travel technology & gadgets (I am currently in IT Sales), art (mainly just looking at for fun when traveling), board games (pretty new to this area), etc. I have never LARPed but I have dressed up for a renaissance fair a couple of times...
I don't have Facebook anymore (and rarely use twitter) but you can find me online here:

Welcome to the forums, Lee! Glad that you could join us.
I agree that having fun can be done in many ways, and as long as it allows you to enjoy yourself and enjoy life, it doesn't matter if it's considered "extreme." Some people might even say that going to conventions like Comic-Con is also extreme in some ways, ha ha.
What are you looking forward to seeing at Comic-Con this year? (In general, since the schedule isn't out yet, ha ha.)

Hello All!
I know I have atrocious manners in not having introduced myself. I am Jemifa, a nerd through and through. Sci-Fi is my crack. I love fantasy. I'm warming up to Cosplay! And I'm here for the comic books! Don't get it twisted! I am so happy to see a whole community of my people here. I am a veteran of 2 SDCCs in years long passed. 1993 and 2007. Yes I know...long ago in a galaxy far far away. I only recently got reintroduced to this wonderful world of amazing people by a lovely gentleman. He has been the most amazing ambassador into this strange and wonderfully new land called (SDCC post Twilight). I know, I know- I hate to bring up the painful past...
While its true I do not know first-hand of the pandemonium that our beloved SDCC has turned into- I need to raise my flag and say that I am a purist. I want to be able to talk to the artists that are shaping pop-culture today. I have been warned that you can no longer walk the artist alley at your leisure, as it is not really an alley anymore...its more like a 6 lane superhighway in "LA status" rush hour traffic. Still and all- I am thrilled to be going this year with the "peas to my carrots". If you will be there in a few weeks I hope to meet you there! Got my snazzy lanyard and erythang! I love the posts and the conversations I am seeing- I will check in more often as work permits. Have a great rest of the week and I can't wait!!!!
Hello All!Big time props to Jem for the Big Trouble in Little China sig!

Howdy! My name is Kathryn and I've been going to Comic Con since 2009 with my younger sister. We've also been to Wonder Con since it's been in Anaheim. Welcome to everyone new :)))
I feel like I'm new again cause I vanished for several months.
HIIIIIII EVERYONE! SO EXCITED TO MEET SOME OF YOU
@pinniped, kmcleer25, and mepat1111:
Technically, I was away for a few weeks (:X long story short: staffing another convention and then, the week after that, got sick with really bad sinus infections), but I'll be on and off on the forums during Comic-Con because of limited WiFi access... ^__^; Ha ha.
Hi everyone! I just wanted to say that I enjoyed meeting many of you at Comic Con this year! I am Transmute Jun's redheaded friend who wore the label "newbie" at the breakfast and Sunday Night get togethers. I also enjoyed "camping out" for Game of Thrones with many of you! Thanks for being so warm and welcoming to this newbie! ^-^
Hey all, wanted to say hi after spending two years trying to get on this forum!

Hi everybody
I am chunks. I am from San Diego and have been attending Comic-Con since 2004.
Nice to meet you all
chunks ;D
Hello everyone, my name is Zoya and I'm hoping/praying/wishing that SDCC '15 is when I get to actually attend Comic con for the first time and not just have to youtube all the panels and vlogs (very few of those around surprisingly, tbh ).
Living on the other side of the world from SD and having a very weak currency, my quest for SDCC is taking over my life basically. ::)
I'm a DC fangirl through and through and didn't even know about Marvel until like, Iron Man came out. I do really like MCU now, but just a smidgen less than DC still.
My other fandoms (print/movies) include LotR/Hobbit(love both the books and movies)Harry Potter(books only, I may be part of a tiny minority who hates the movies),Hunger Games,Paranormal Romances,Urban Fantasy books. Also the original Star Wars trilogy.
Someday, I don't know when, but someday, I will cosplay as a female Han Solo. It's a bucket list item.
In TV, it's TWD,GoT,Gotham,Arrow,Flash,Constantine and AoS that I'm watching these days. Too many in the past to mention here.
Here's hoping I get to actually meet some of you, come July.

Hello everyone!
I am a noob when it comes to SDCC. It has been on my bucket list though! My son is the one who actually got the ball rolling. I told him I would take him wherever he wanted to go for his 21st birthday, and COMIC CON is where he wanted to go! Thankfully, I am just as excited as he is to be going! Well, HOPEFULLY going :D
So, my son and I are doing our best to attend...I have to slap myself around a bit, because my son calls me the metagamer...yet I waited UNTIL NOW to start doing my nitty gritty research on comic con!
Both my son and I will be traveling from North Pole, Alaska! probably not as far as some people, but far enough for us :)
Thank you for all these wonderful threads to help us learn what it is that I need to accomplish for making our first trip to SDCC as good as it can be!
Christie
Christie,
Welcome to the Forum from a fellow Alaskan! My girlfriend and I live in Anchorage and have gone to SDCC for the past three years. We already have our badges for next year so looks like it will be year four in 2015.
This Forum has been an amazing resource for us from the beginning and continues to still provide excellent information and support for all of us. Doesn't matter if you're a first timer or been there just a few times, the tips, hints and advice from Friends of Comic Con has been invaluable to us. Plus, you can feel good that you're amongst friends :)
Zero,
Well, I'm embarrassed to say I haven't been anywhere - I check into the Forum every day but I don't often post anything. I'll try to start that New Year's Resolution, early, "To be more involved in the Forum and don't just be a lurky loo"
*waves back*
Hello everyone,
My name is Froggy. I'm a french girl living in Germany.
I've been lurking on this forum for a few years now but this year is the first time where I have the money and the time to attend SDCC so I've finally decided to create an account!
Nice to meet you all & hopefully we'll meet in SD :)
Thanks, guys. :)You should look into joining one of the buying groups. In the group I belong to we have someone from Australia and someone who is in China.
If I manage to get a badge, I'll definitely participate!
Hey all ... My name is Keisha. 2015 will be my 3rd year attending the Con. My mom, sister, and I make it a family trip. We're from North Carolina. Love the con! Its not very often that you go to an event with that many people and about 98% of the attendees are so nice. That really says something about all us geeks/nerds/insert any other term about us here. lol.
Hi Everyone
I'm Kristina from CA. I attended SDCC last year for the first time with my sisters and absolutely loved it! I want more than anything to be able to go again this year so I'll be looking to join a badge buying group so help up my chances! I realize I'm a little late to the party but hopefully some of the forum community veterans can help me out with getting myself and my sisters to the SDCC!
PS: it took me way too long to figure out the registration questions D: I guess I'm not as big of a nerd as I'd like to think since I couldn't finish a few names.....
My name is Melissa and I've been attending SDCC yearly with my family since 2006. We started attending as a reward for our middle son. He was having a difficult time learning how to read and a friend of ours gave him a huge box of reader comics and it worked like a charm. (To this day he tests in the 98% of reading state wide) He was the one to tell us about the Con of all cons.
Well, needless to say the family fell in love with the SDCC and we plan to attend every year so long as the Comic Con Gods see fit. I only found out about this forum last year and through it, I was able to secure a hotel downtown, so thank you. We'd been attending SDCC for awhile and as I was reading through the different forums I never realized how much stuff we were missing out on. Like cosplay, we've never done it before and are hoping to start that tradition this year. I love all of your helpful insights and I'm hoping to make it to some of your meet and greets.
Thanks to all of those who make this forum possible :)
That does sound like fun. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is traveling alone or having to stay in a hotel alone. And after the forum meetup maybe a forum Zoo visit? :)
The forum meetups are quite the zoo, in and of themselves! ;)
Traveling alone I can't help with, but you might be able to find someone to stay with in the Room Share thread.
Hi, My name's Sarah and I live in Belgium. Last february a friend and I decided to go to SDCC so we booked a flight. Then we tried to find a hotel and were surprised there were almost none available. We ended up in one on Shelter Island. (Luckily there were shuttle busses). We had no idea getting badges was so difficult and of course we didn't get any. We still went and had a great time at NerdHQ, the offsite stuff and just visiting San Diego. (And then we went to New York as well)
This year I've decided I'll only go if I get a badge. I've joined a group so hopefully that will help my luck. There's a big chance I'll be traveling alone so I'm still looking for people to travel with and/or share a hotel with (and do more touristy stuff in San Diego. As awesome as it is I don't want to go all that way and spend it all in a convention center)
Hi everyone!
My name is Mathieu (Mat, I know it's easier for English-speaking people that have troubles with the "ieu" part ;D), I'm from Paris, France.
I attended SDCC for the first time last year, I was lucky enough to get a 4-day badge + PN. For this year, I got the 4-day badge during pre-reg and hopefully I can get the PN on Saturday!
I had been on the forum before, without registering, and since the community looks so nice and helpful, I thought it was time to join!
Hope I can meet some of you in San Diego :)
Welcome to the forums, Sarah! ^__^/ Glad that you could join us in our online community!
Working together in a badge-buying group will help more than attacking the badge registration system alone, and as Transmute suggested, check out the CCI 2015 Room Sharing Thread (http://friendsofcci.com/forum/index.php?topic=3837.0).

Thanks! I've bookmarked the thread and I'll wait till saturday to see if I get badges. Maybe more people are waiting till saturday and there'll be more posts then?
Hi Mathieu! I took enough French that I *think* I'm mentally pronouncing your name correctly. ;) Great to see you here! As Zero said, we will be organizing forum meetups at the con again this year, so be sure to attend one or two (or a few) and meet up with some of us!
Ooh, there's more than 1 forum meetup?
Ooh, there's more than 1 forum meetup?
Yes. last year there were 4 or 5, IIRC.
ETA I was wrong! There were 6.

Welcome to the forums, Mathieu! It's great to see that you decided to jointhe dark side, I mean, the forum community! ^__~
I wish you the best of luck for Preview Night. (>__< We all know it's guaranteed to sell out fast.)
Keep an eye out for the forum meet-up threads in the next upcoming months. They're definitely good ways to meet a few line buddies, and some people may even turn out to be life-long friends.

Hello Sarah, welcome!
I attended SDCC for the first time last year by myself and I had a great time! I flew in and out alone, and spent most of my time both at the con and around San Diego by myself. Don't be afraid to go solo!
I did share a hotel room with someone (which I recommend doing because rooms get spendy fast), and I found them here on the forum in the room sharing thread we had last year, so I agree with the others that it's definitely a good option for you.
Good luck in the badge sale!
I just don't think it will be as much fun if I don't have someone I (kinda) know with me. And I know it's weird but it's always nice to have someone with you who speaks the same language (and my English is obviously fine). But I'll definitely check the hotel thread. Must wait 24 hours first. :)I wish you much luck tomorrow! Did you join any of the buying groups? They opened a last minute one last night. It will increase your chances!

I did join a group. Thanks :)
Hi all!
My name is Melissa and this will be my first time at SDCC! Loved comics all my life, but never had the chance to do this.... raising 3 kids gets pricey. Kids all grown and on their own now, but my oldest caught the bug from me. We did a small con here on the east coast this past summer and decided that we needed to register for the big dance. We were lucky to get tickets and San Diego here we come!!! :D
Hi all,
First off, I just wanted to say thanks Alyssa and Chris H for starting FCC, and to all of the mods for doing a great job at answering all of the myriad questions that we have!!! That being said, HI!!! My name is Max and I'm from Northern California. Roseville to be exact...a couple miles north of Sacramento. I've been to Wonder Con when it was still in S.F., Wizard World in Sacramento, and most recently, The Walker Stalker Con in S.F. After several years of trying in vain to buy my way in to SDCC, I was lucky enough to get accepted to the Volunteer program. This is going to be my first year attending SDCC and am going to do it solo, since none of my friends were able to buy their tickets this year. I found this forum while Googling, "Do I really need friends for Comic Con?". I found most of the answers to the questions that I had about volunteering that Zero had posted but, as a "guest", I didn't have access to his *spoilers*, so I joined. Best decision ever. Best. Forum. Ever. Hope to meet some of you guys!
Welcome to the forums, Max! It's great to have you with us on the forums, and I'm glad you were able to get many of your questions answered! Ha ha, see, there is an incentive to join and then participate.
Spoilers are truly amazing things, which is why they're called spoilers. <3 (Mwuhahahahahaha. My evil plan worked! Once you've turned to the dark side, you can't go back. The door of knowledge and information will be open to you. Ha ha.)
There is a common misconception that I'm a guy, but I think it has to do with the character image for my avatar. Ha ha. ^__~
Definitely check out the meet-up threads to get in touch with fellow forum members during Comic-Con:
http://friendsofcci.com/forum/index.php?topic=4262.0
It's true that you might end up meeting life-long friends.
Thank you Zero! I will definitely check out the meet-up threads and, sorry about the "his" presumption...I used "guy" logic. Which means, "60% of the time, it works all of the time." - Ron Burgundy
P.S. All of the best people are on the Dark Side... ;) and yeah, <3 the *spoilers*!
You're welcome. Ha ha, no worries about that! I understand it can be confusing, especially on the internet. ^__~ (I only mention it if other people mention it about me first, ha ha. ;p)
Maybe I need a new avatar. @__@! It could be so completely different that it could alter the time and space continuum of the forum.
Or maybe Alyssa could have a part of the profile where people voluntarily state their gender, and a symbol appears next to their avatar. I have seen that on a few messages boards.
Hey everyone. I'm new to the forum, but I've been a long time lurker. I decided to make an account to help contribute. I ran into this topic kind of late. My name is Kevin. I've been convention hopping for the last couple of years, after graduating college, because hey, we need money to convention hop. I live in the Sacramento county in California, and I hope to make the trip to SDCC a yearly tradition.
I guess I'm just like everyone else here. Major interests in all things pop culture. Comic books, TV shows, movies, etc. Looking forward to posting more on this forum to learn more about other conventions around the country. I'm also looking to share some of my convention experiences with others to help address any questions or concerns they may have about attending large conventions.
Hey. I'm Emma (or just call me Dougie). I'm from Scotland and will be a first time attendee at SDCC. I've been to the West Coast a couple of times, but not San Diego.
I'm a musician, teacher, Star Wars obsessive and a Tabletop player. I also have a major interest in pop culture - books, comics, movies and tv shows.
I joined the forum to get to know people before I get there, as I doubt there will be a Scottish contingent there, let alone anyone I know. Also too find out about the Con before I go.
Welcome to the forums, Emma! ^__^/ (I know I already said so in the "How far away are you coming from?" thread, but...) Glad that you could join us in our community!
What instruments do you play? Do you also teach music?
There's actually a facebook group run by one of our forum members, ukdeejay, dedicated to U.K. attendees for Comic-Con. Perhaps you might be interested in taking a look to meet up and connect with fellow Scottish attendees at the convention: https://www.facebook.com/groups/comicconukattendees/
^__~
Yeah, I teach music in a secondary classroom. As for instruments, I can play every orchestral string instrument, guitar, bass, drums, percussion and a bit of singing. I am currently trying to master the ukulele.
Thanks for the tip about the forum, I'm off to check that out now :)
I didn't know this thread existed! I joined last month and have already gotten a TON of great info. Everyone has been extremely helpful (and patient!).
My name is Jessica. This will be my first SDCC. The only other convention I have ever been to was a Harry Potter Convention in Orlando in 2010. So I'm quite a newbie but VERY excited! I'll be in San Diego July 8-14, going to the Con on Thursday and Sunday.
I'm coming from Cincinnati, Ohio. I'll be joined by an old college roommate and her friend from high school. I'll be travelling separately, though, because they live in another state. (Fun fact: We are all named Jessica!)
I have never been to the West Coast (the furthest West I've been is New Orleans), so I can't wait to experience that. I definitely want to visit the San Diego Zoo while I'm there, and there are probably more restaurants that I want to try than there are meals that I'll actually be eating.
I'm a big fan of Doctor Who (including classic, but I'm only up to the Fourth Doctor so far), Sherlock, Community, The Walking Dead, Grimm, Once Upon a Time, and a million other shows, including some that are sadly over (Lost, Fringe, Buffy). I recently got into Game of Thrones (this will be the first season I watch live), and am halfway through the fifth Song of Ice and Fire book. And, not Con-related, but I'm also a huge sports fan, namely college basketball and NFL.
Any recommendations for touristy stuff to do? This will probably be my only trip to San Diego (at least for a long time), as I don't really have the budget to make it an annual trip, so I want to make it count! We will not have a car, so something accessible by public transport or a short taxi ride would be best.
Thank you for the suggestions!
hello, there! my name is Alex, and i'll be coming from Honolulu, HI with my boyfriend Mike! this was our first time trying for tickets, so we're still pretty shocked to be going. the only other convention we've been to was Flanvention in 2006 (Firefly/Serenity convention), which is where Mike and I met.
We like reading (mostly fantasy - Jim Butcher, Larry Correia, Kevin Hearne), movies, and tv. So much tv!! Maybe too much tv? We're super excited for this trip! I just have to reign in my impulse-buying so i don't go broke!
Hello there, Alex! Welcome to the forums! Glad that you're here to join us in our community. ^__^/
Ha ha, sometimes, I feel the same way when I'm walking around the Exhibit Hall. Too many cute or cool things to see or buy! What sort of items do you like to collect? (Or, rather, is there a particular "theme" to the type of items most commonly purchased during these impulse-buying sessions? Ha ha.)
Alex, it sounds like you and your boyfriend are going to have a great time at Zcomic Con! We have other members coming from Hawaii, do you won't be alone in that either. Make sure that you look around this site so you have an idea of what to expect when you arrive.
Great to see you here!
Thanks, Zero! Not really sure what there is to buy at the con...i'm hoping to end up with some good shirts, plushies, maybe something from Artist Alley, and something from the Funko booth!
You mentioned that you like to watch TV. What are some of your favorite shows?
The ones still airing? Once Upon a Time, Flash, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Grimm, Castle, Game of Thrones, Big Bang Theory.
How 'bout you?
Hi, My name is Adalisa, and I've been going to San Diego on and off since 2004. I'm a comic artist/writer/translator from Mexico who sometimes suffers from terminal net shyness.
I love all kind of comics, but I rarely go to panels. I'm seeing if this year I manage to break the tradition and actually go to more than one panel.
Hi! I'm Shellie and I'm from Austin. My first Comic Con was in 2010. This summer will be my fourth. I wish I'd known about this forum a few years ago, but I was just alerted to it during the hotel craziness.
I'm a writer and a book nerd, so you can usually find me in the spotlight panels with comic book writers or in the publishing preview panels. It's been a few years since I've braved the Hall H or Ballroom 20 line, but I will for Doctor Who or a Firefly reunion. Current comic obsessions include: Captain Marvel, b***h Planet, Sex Crims, Ms. Marvel, and The Wicked and the Divine. I'm also a big fan of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, The Flash, and pretty much anything Joss Whedon lays his hands upon.
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and trading SDCC tips!
Welcome Chicklit, glad you found us! Did you go to the Firefly reunion in 2012?? It was amazing!

Hi Shellie! Welcome to the forums. The forums have always been a great resource for a variety of things, including hotels, badges, food, convention tips, related news, and even friendly individuals, so it's never too late to join. Glad to have you with us in our community!
Do you have a favorite character created by Whedon?
Great to see you here, Luxshine and Chicklit! I'd love to hear your perspectives on how you think the con has changed over the past decade or so. Not just the obvious stuff (lines, demand) but also content and programming.
It's really hard to say because my perspective changed each year, as did what I attended. My first year, I went to a lot of the movie and tv show programming. Last year, I spent most of my time in the smaller rooms. The year before that, it was probably about half and half. I've typed out an answer and then deleted it three times now, so I'll have to think on it a bit more and get back to you.
Just one? :o My heart says Buffy. She was my introduction to Whedon and I was immediately hooked. But I also have a soft spot for YoSaffBridge, poor, misunderstood con artist that she is. She's just so devilishly fun.
Glad to be here!
Hey there,
I am a long time SDCC attendee, started in 2006/7 I think, and have been four times, one time was strictly business and I did not get to enjoy myself at all.
The first year they started doing the registration for next year on-site, is the first year I purposely skipped. Well, it's been 3 years and I finally was able to get tickets again!
3 years of me and my partner getting up at 8am and waiting to be told, sorry, no more passes.
Now, we can't find a decent hotel and are actually considering getting a refund for the tickets if tomorrow and next week does not pan out.
I really dig San Diego, it is a decent drive from here in Tucson, AZ.
Well, Hello forum!
Did not realize I should post here first as a newb to the board, been lurking a month or so.
Myself and a friend are coming to SDCC this year from Calgary, Alberta Canada. We're fortunate to be booked into the Marriott Marquis and Marina and have tickets to see the Nerdist Podcast Live already. I think we're open to seeing whatever we can, having been once before 4 years ago I know seeing everything is literally impossible. I met some lovely folks last round we hope to meet for a drink but I look forward to meeting many more wonderful people and hope to make some new line up buddies.
I am pretty pleased to have found this forum as there seems to be all kinds of excellent tips and tricks, thanks to those who run this ship!
Welp, I lurked a while and then I just sort of jumped in on posting and completely forgot to come here and properly introduce myself! This will be my 4th time (started in 2011, skipped 2012). Bringing the SO for his first time this year. And my best friend is bring his SO for the first time.
Anyway, I'm Cat. I'm coming from New Orleans where I've been the past 12 years. The trip to SD in July is always a welcome trip to much, much cooler weather. Nothing like getting off the plane to 30 degrees cooler than home.
I'm a TV aficionado so I tend to hit up as many of those panels as possible. This year hoping for Hannibal, Penny Dreadful, The 100, Supernatural, Vikings...well and more. I watch a lot of tv. But, I do try to mix some variety in and catch panels for new stuff, comics, games, etc.
We're at the Manchester Grand Hyatt and are signed up for the breakfast on Wednesday! Hope to see y'all there!
What's it like living in New Orleans?
Hmmm....That is a complicated answer. It is both wonderful and difficult. It is very easy to get swept away by this city. That's how I ended up here. And there are wonderful people here with wonderful attitudes about life. The public perception of the city isn't necessarily what it is. For instance, Mardi Gras is much more a family event. You get together with family (kids included) and friends and watch parades and drink. Out of towners are the only ones flashing boobs and such. On the other hand, the booze flows freely here. Its cheap and easy to get swept up in that lifestyle as well. And the rents (and purchase prices) are skyrocketing but people do not make a lot of money. The authenticness of the city is getting pushed at by gentrification and hipsters from all over who've moved here more recently because we're "cool" now. Education is terrible...crime is horrible....but it is beautiful.
That was probably more than you wanted in an answer but I have a complicated relationship with the city. I go back and forth between wanting to move away every few months. heheh She's great to visit though and if you ever came this way I"d be happy to give a rec list that would, of course, include the museum I work at!
I work for the Historic New Orleans Collection. We are a private foundation/publisher/research center/museum. I'm the assistant manager in the retail and wholesale department. I work with a lot of history nerds! But, not a lot of comic nerds. :(
Hi All,
My name is Jess. My school year is winding down, which means it is time to spend way more time reading and researching for Comic Con than I ever did with my term papers. ;D I have been lurking for the last couple days, so I figured I would at least introduce myself.
Some basics: I am from San Diego, born and raised. I studied drama and stage management in college and now I am taking some business tech classes to keep me busy between projects. I grew up watching Gundam, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, etc. with my siblings growing up. Eventually, I got more focussed on theatre and production, but I am finally catching up on pop culture now that my head isn't stuck in Shakespeare. I am currently trying to get my head wrapped around the Walking Dead, which is my mom's favorite show, Orphan Black, and Game of Thrones. I don't think I have turned on my TV in a year before this. So, there is a bit to catch up on. :-\
I have a four-day pass for SDCC 2015 and I am hoping to make this year's adventure the best one. Last year, I only managed to get two days and had to miss out on a lot because of my work schedule on top of it. It was still fun, but it didn't feel like Comic Con without being half asleep on the grass outside the convention center at 4am ever day. I was also broke. I barely remember much, but I used to go way back when I was a kid a handful of times, then I managed to get a 4-day badge for 2010 and I have been going ever since with a 4-day badge aside from last year.
This year is already shaping up to be great. I have the week off, I am sharing a hotel with some friends to save some gas, and I even have the money to treat myself and my niece and nephew to some cool stuff. It my be my last, because I plan on moving to Seattle next year, but we will see.
I don't know what else to say, but hello :)
Hey all. Sorry I kind of jumped into posting for the past couple of months without introducing myself. I'm Sebrina from just outside of Nashville, TN. I'm a 911 operatorIf anyone is choking or giving birth during The Con, get in touch with Sebrina!
Hey all. Sorry I kind of jumped into posting for the past couple of months without introducing myself. I'm Sebrina from just outside of Nashville, TN. I'm a 911 operator and this will be my 2nd Con (1st was last yr). I grew up loving comic books and cartoons but not knowing how expansive they were. I'm excited about seeing everything esp. anything wonder woman related. Thanks for helping me get a great hotel room (MMM), I joined right before hotelpacalypse not knowing how fortunate being a member would be. That's pretty much it!
Welcome to the forums, allmebri! It's never too late to say hello and introduce yourself in this thread! ^__^ Glad that you could join us in our community.
It's pretty cool that you're a 911 operator! How long have you been an operator? Are the work hours usually very long?
I've been an operator for 12.5 years. I enjoy it. I've just come to the conclusion that everyone is nuts! :o
Wow! That's awesome. Is it common for people to stay as operators for a long time? I once saw a 20/20 (or perhaps it was Dateline) story about some 911 operators burning out because of the stressfulness of their jobs, but I wonder how accurate that was. ^__^;; Ha ha.
Burnout is pretty common. I just have a knack for it I guess. It can be rough though. My trainee and I took a call tonight about a guy who tried to cut his own jugular and carotid. Then I turned around and went to work a radio and dispatch officers to calls. So you have to keep it together. I love what I do though...

Hello from Argentina!
I found this forum looking for info about NYCC :D
Me and my wife starting to travel to USA in 2010 for Star Wars Celebration 5 in Orlando, in 2012 we went back to Orlando for SWC6 but we also did Dragon*Con 2012 and was really awesome!
In 2014 we parade at SW Weekends in Disney Hollywood and this year we visit Anaheim for SWC7.
Now we are planning to visit again Florida and NY for the first time, we found out about Wizzard World FT Lauderdale and we have 3 day tickets, also for NYCC but Saturday was sold out :'(
See you around!
Juanchi
Yikes! I had better introduce myself too, since I've been yammering away on the boards.
Name is Mark, I'm originally from New Mexico, now live near Half Moon Bay, CA. My wife grew up in San Diego and has family in the area so we get down there regularly, this'll be our 5th SDCC. Two kids, a son and a daughter. We do some of the smaller cons as well, especially ones focused more on art and comics. Someday hope to get to some of the big European events like Angouleme and Lucca.
Professionally I'm what they call a Data Scientist, (half math, half computer programming,) so if you have any statistics questions, shoot away. Unprofessionally, I'm interested in all sorts of stuff. I'm a bit of a talker, you've all been fairly warned :)
P.S. comiccondad is an homage of sorts to moviemom who used to do these wonderfully detailed reviews for Yahoo movies. I started a blog with the goal to do something similar for families at SDCC, we'll see how it goes.
Thanks! This year my wife and daughter are skipping out early, but my daughter is big into Dr. Who and my wife will usually try to track down some authors, and Nathan Fillion. My son will haunt the video game demos and panels.
I'm waiting for all the panels to be announced, I love some of the unusual ones you get, like last year's "Obscure Cities" one. The best part for me is talking to people and seeing all the random acts of creativity, but I'll do some exclusives, some panels, a lot of shopping, and try to get a new signature on my hip flask.

This started with a party the night before leaving for SD one year where, a bit in my cups, I declared to all that I would get Bruce Campbell to sign my hip flask. Such oaths being sacred, I took it down and it actually worked out. Since then, I've added the creator of the Hip Flask character from Elephantmen, along with a sketch of Hip Flask, and Kazuo Koike. Last year I forgot to bring it, but hoping this is the year of the Hasselhoff.
A personal interest of mine is the stats behind the comic con/pop culture boom. Having lived through a few boom&busts...., well, that's a topice for another thread. lol
if you have time take a look at this thread http://friendsofcci.com/forum/index.php?topic=4173.0
are you coming to either of the meet ups?
Hi, I'm Holly.
I've lived in San Diego my entire life, and I'm currently in Hillcrest/Mission Hills.
This is my 15th Comic-Con, and I've been going since I was three years old.
I'm a big fan of comics, graphic novels, film, and fashion.
For the first time, I'll be alone for part of the con, so I'm looking forward to exploring on my own, and meeting new people. ^-^
Hi everyone I'm Jo :) really love all the helpful info on here and I'm hoping to be able to go to SDCC next year. I look forward to talking with you guys!
Welcome!
Brainiac and Jo, you are here at the right time! Now that we're all coming home from the con, we are starting our 2016 planning! You will start seeing posts about it in the next couple of weeks.
Hi! Everyone :)
First post here, I'm Brainiac :D and I'm hoping to make it to my first SDCC next year ;D
I look forward to having some great discussions here with you guys :)

Hi everyone. I've been posting a little here and there lately and decided it's about time I introduce myself, too. My name is Ben. It's been great having these forums as a resource for The Con over the past couple of months and it definitely made my experience much better than previous years. In the past, I had no idea what I was doing, what exclusives were and how to get them, how panels worked, how lines worked (especially Hall H), etc. All I used to do in the past was walk the exhibit hall floor. I knew there was so much more to do, but didn't know what/how/etc. You just have to ask someone who knows...and that's where the forums came in so handy. Thanks to everyone who contributes here because it helps put some order and organization into the chaos known as Comic-Con. One of these years I will do some cosplay...I had my kids dressed as Padme Amidala and a "Jedi" on Saturday. They had a blast!
Welcome to the forums, Jo! Glad that you could join us! My best advice is to frequent the forums throughout the year. Even during the "slow" months, there's bound to be something interesting to talk about. ^__^d
: Hey there guys. Been real busy lately sorting out a portfolio of my best comic based art.I would love some help or advice on how to get myself seen. I also am selling alot of one off pieces. Check out my instagram for more. www.instagram.com/gloombird
I love to draw cosplayers and I'm a long time die hard comic geek.
I would to share my art with you guys and hopefully get a table at a conference.
Lemmi
Sorry I didn't mean to advertise or sell. I really just have a passion for the comic world. I have done since I was small. I'm 29 now so it's a while.
How would I find local cons and getting on artists alley?

No its just I wierd statement thats not supposed to make sense lol as far as movies and shows that's a tough one you'd have to pick a category movies or shows obvious ones Game of Thrones walking dead daredevil on Netflix movies would be a lot of the Marvel stuff sarcastic comedies, action basically name a movie and I've probably saw it and most likely like it
Hi, I'm the new guy!
I'm Darren,
30 M from Ireland. I'm visiting America July 2016 for 3 and a half weeks the main reason being to see a friend who now lives in America (In Atlanta) but I'm taking in a few states while over so as part of the trip I've booked flights to / b&b accommodation in San Diego from the 18th July to the 25th so hoping I can get lucky and get a Comic Con Ticket as its pretty much a once in a life time trip.
I'm particularly interested in talking to any one who would be interested in joining up together in the open registration to improve our chances of getting tickets.
I'm happy to talk to people around the fourms / facebook / skype etc... to prove I'm real and genuine so see you all around the forum :)
Greetings,
Brandon here from DC. I have been attending SDCC consecutively since 2009. In that time, my first few years attending was as an attendee; however, since 2012, I have been going as press, representing Reel Film News.
This year, I have a group of family/friends planning to go so I will be leading their purchase group for open registration. Be sure to PM me if you are interested in joining our group...Otherwise, I'll be around! :D
Best,
Brandon
Hi! :D
New here and I'm a newb at Cons too. I've only been to one and never been to SDCC...yet. I'll be going to SDCC 2016. I'm really excited to experience it next year.
I'm interested in cosplaying (my desire for 100% accuracy is my own worst enemy though) and I love gaming (mainly xbone).
Hi all --
My name is Brittany and I'm here in the hopes that I'll be able to take my son to Comic Con in 2016. I had hoped to surprise him with tickets for his 10th birthday this year, but trying to get tickets on my own didn't work out for me. So I'm looking to join a buying group this year to increase our odds of success (and solidify my spot as the coolest mom in his class).
Fingers crossed, and nice to meet everyone!
Welcome to the forums, bexbaby! ^__^/ Glad that you can join us in our online community! I'm sure you'll enjoy Comic-Con.
I love video games as well! What are some of your favorite titles?
Well, lately, I've been playing mainly GTA V, Star Wars Battlefront, and AC Syndicate. I'm in love with all the Lego games. My favorite all-time console game though is Red Dead Redemption. Still have my fingers and toes crossed for its Xbox backwards compatibility *sigh* :-Thumbs up on the RDR! My fave too
What about you?

Hi guys,
I'm Jeff and I'm hoping to do a road trip down from Canada for the con. I've been to Comic Expo here in Calgary a bunch but I'm hoping 2016 will be mine and my wife's first Comic con. We tried to get tickets this past year but no luck so we're going to join a group this year. I heard about this group from Reddit!
SoCalNerdGal was the one that told me about the forum.
I'm a big fan of a lot of random graphic novels. I've really liked Marvel since I was little and collected the cards!
TV is pretty varied too. Just finished watching Jessica Jones which was awesome. I never thought of her as a really cool superhero but that might be the draw.
I'm a huge movie fan so I watch whatever I can get my hands on. Big fan of good sci fi. I'll often read the book and then get disappointed by the movie.
As I write this I realize I have a lot of general interests.
That sounds awesome. I think you'll fit right into our community! Ha ha. ^___~
If you're interested, we also have forum meet-ups for Comic-Con so that members can meet and greet each other. Right now, there are only a few being organized, but there are usually at least five or six different meet-ups by the time Comic-Con rolls around.
Here's the info thread: http://friendsofcc.com/forum/index.php?topic=5643.msg138171#msg138171

Hi All
I just joined on the recommendation of dolphina, she told me about this forum and all the information available to a noob like me. My boyfriend went to Comic-Con last year and I am hoping to go next year but have been warned about how hard it is to get a badge, so I am hoping to join a buying group and increase my chances.
I live here in Southern Calif (Camarillo) and I have been to Anime Expo, Comikazi, and BlizzCon.
I'm a student and enjoy anime, gaming, and tv shows like Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Marvel AOS, Agent Carter.
Thanks so much for the welcome :D This forum/community is awesome I have been checking out a bunch of the different topics and I am just amazed at all the information that is covered. Talk about a one stop reference place. And I am studying veterinary sciences to become a veterinary assistant, I just have a couple of classes left but they have been very difficult to get into :-\
Hello, my name is Stephanie and what else can I say but I'm new here.
I signed-up for the sole purpose of meeting new people, and to learn more about going to San Diego Comic-Con.
I was born in San Diego, yet I have never been to Comic Con, which is an odd thing that I'm looking to ameliorate.
Also, I am interested in going to New York Comic Con as well, specifically for this year.
Anyways, I look forward to speaking to most of you, and to learn more about possibly attending these conventions.
Peace out and have a smiley spam.
;D :-[ :P O0 O:-)
Hello friends of comic-con! I'm mlgagne's younger sister. I'm from the east coast area, and I've been to NYCC a few times...I am hoping to go to SDCC for the first time this upcoming year.
I enjoy films from the 30s-70s eras, including horror and monster movies. I also like GoT and TWD, and my favorite character is Rick ;)
I also love Twin Peaks (Laura Palmer <3)
Looking forward to getting to know y'all :)
Is your name a Pulp Fiction reference?
My cat looks like a banana slug, actually. But that would be a lot cooler, so yes :)
Great to see you here, BananaSlug! It sounds like you'll fit in around here just fine. I presume you're working with Mlgagne's buying group in general registration to get a badge for SDCC? If not, let me know. We still have a buying group setting up for spring.
most likely because I spend like half of my waking hours talking about the awesomeness of cons and FoCC 8)
Only half? :-[
Hahaha...I may have played that down a *BIT*. It's more like 100% of what comes out of my mouth is a giant garble of FoCC/SDCC/GoT/TWD/other fandoms. It kind of all flows together at this point ;D
Great to see you here, Rstacee! We will do our best to help! Make sure you look around the badge registration forum for the latest information, and to join a buying group, if you are interested.

BananaSlug will be assisting me in gen reg by taking one of the new(er) positions that I am setting up to help the group run more smoothly (will be working out the kinks in the coming weeks)! I recommended joining the forum to her, and she signed up without hesitation...most likely because I spend like half of my waking hours talking about the awesomeness of cons and FoCC 8)
Hey everyone!
New here and hoping to make SDCC my first con. I was on paternity leave for a few weeks and got back into comics after 20 yrs!
Glad to be here and hope everyone has a Happy New Year!
Hi everyone! My name is Trina and I am new-ish to cons. I have attended a couple Supernatural conventions, one WizardCon and a local NCComicCon. I am hoping to attend SDCC for the first time this year, but have yet to join a buying group due to the big unknown of finance. I can't really be sure I'll even be able to afford SDCC. :/
I just wanted to say hello, in case the odds are in my favor. :D
Well, well, well, Look who we have here. It's been sometime, more like two years or so. Hope everyone is doing well and life is going somewhat decent for you. It's true what they say "strength in numbers always works." Those of you who were successful during Pre Reg, Congrats. Those of us who got the goose egg, I know your pain. Mrs Yzrfan and I are right there with you. Open Reg is coming up soon, and hopefully things will go better for all of us. Just think after the stress of Open Reg, we have the always fun Hotelpocalypse and parking presale hell. I'm speaking from experience, you can't do it alone and you need the help of your fellow nerds. You need to have each others backs during everything SDCC related, and in life. This is the first time in many many years the Yzrfamily doesn't have badges going into Open Reg, and its a crappy/scary feeling. We have ran into some of the new and old members at different cons while I was away, with the help of everyone's favorite Rando. To all you old timers, "Hello." For all the new members after my retirement, I'm the jacka@# who brought alittle humor and a-holeness to the forum. Oh and one more thing before I go, I'm voting "Bert Su for President 2016"
I just joined yesterday, didn't properly introduce myself.
My name's Joanna, I've lived in IL all my life (though I have been thinking about moving to NY), I'm trying to be an actress (though it's tough where I am, hence the desire to move), I'm single and I'm into film/TV, video games, and cosplay. I had attended Wizard World in the late 2000s until I was a victim of the poor economy. Thankfully I'm back on my feet and am looking forward to attending C2E2 again and hopefully will be lucky to score SDCC this year.
Hello!
Welcome back, Yzrfan! It's been a long while indeed! Remember me? (Bwuhahahahaha. ;p)
Hello there, Joanna! Welcome to the forums! It's great to have you as a part of our online community. The more the merrier, I say.
If you're interested in joining a general ("open") registration buying group, check out this thread here for more information:
http://friendsofcc.com/forum/index.php?topic=5694.0 (Freight's group is still open to new members.)
There are also forum meet-ups being planned for Comic-Con. Right now, there are only a few being organized, but there are usually at least five or six different meet-ups by the time the convention rolls around:

Once again, welcome to the forums! ^__^d
Hi Joanna, great to see you here! You've certainly chosen an excellent time to get back into cons. Good luck with open registration!
Honestly, I've never heard of a buying group, does it work much of the time?
And we meet again Zero. Hope things have been well for you.
Work is work. You have good days and you have bad days. It's been very trying given the social/political/emotional climate we live in these days.
Hi peeps, think it's time for an introduction after a bit of lurking.
I'm a kiwi based in NZ and planning on travelling to the states later this year with my fiance for a few weeks (yet to be determined how many, based on $ saving ability!). I was big into X-Men / Marvel comics in the 90's, and she is a big Buffy / Potter fan. Other stuff i have an appreciation for...Spawn, Stargate, Marvel / X-Men trading cards and all the Marvel movies :) For about the last year we've been watching a lot of YouTube cosplay vids from various conventions but neither of us have talent in that field so just have an appreciation for it. I've attended a few of our local cons (Armageddon) with the last being in 2014, but they're nowhere near the scale of the US cons.
We have no firm plans but a big part of our upcoming trip was to make it to a US con and once we know what's happening regarding that, plan other things. SDCC is my big hope but i was totally unaware of how hard it is to get badges! So, we're coming to the realisation that maybe we'll have to settle for another con, but still going to give it a go for getting badges to SDCC. If we can't get in there (pretty likely!) then i'd hope to hit somewhere else that does it on a big scale....maybe NYCC. Thankfully nothing at all is booked yet, i've just made sure to have enough leave to book in a decent break around a con once we're locked in.
That's about it for me i think.
Hi all! Just found this forum since it will be my first time attending SDCC in 2016!
My name's Zi, I'm born and raised in Singapore. I attended college/uni in Melbourne, Australia and I'm now living in Seattle, Washington.
I've always been into comics and I've collected Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image and Vertigo comics. Favourite artists would be Joe Mad (anyone remember his comic Tellos?), Todd Mcfarlane (grew up reading his work on Amazing Spider-man) and the late Michael Turner.
I had attended my first con at NYCC 2010 when I've just gotten my first job out of uni and I had such a blast! This time round, I will be attending SDCC 2016 with my wife! I was very fortunate to be able to obtain tickets for Thur - Sat through the open reg. On the morning of open reg, my car broke down while I was out getting breakfast and I couldn't return home in time for the start of the reg. So I had to use my iPhone throughout the whole process and luckily the website works!
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the con!
Hey everybody! I discovered this forum when looking for more information on SDCC. I'm a military brat so I'm not really from anywhere, but I'm married to a Texas born and raised man who joined the military last year. He's been talking up SDCC ever since we met and began dating 6 years ago. We normally attend PAX or other gaming-related cons since we're both big gamers, into anime and DC. To celebrate my graduating with my bachelors this fall and to have some fun before he may be deployed, I decided to try and get us badges for SDCC 2016. I honestly didn't expect to get into registration and was already making plans to attend SLCC instead, but somehow I lucked out and got in, snagging us Friday through Sunday badges.
Overall I'm very excited to attend with my husband, who agreed to do at least one couples cosplay with me. :) This is our first comic con and I'm sure it will be a great experience. I'll definitely be reading everything I can here and preparing ahead of time.
Hello everyone!
I am attending Wondercon for the first time this year and I am excited for the getaway! I am going solo, but I always enjoy being self-indulgent ;).
I am mainly into comics (imagine that), but I can geek out in any number of mediums or genres. For the past couple of years I've been relearning to draw, so I've been getting more and more into that aspect of comics.
I've been to a few other conventions, but this will be my first in California, a state that I truly love. I currently live in Austin, but my favorite part of the country is the west, and I'd love to end up there eventually.
I have my ticket for the Dawn of Justice showing at LA Live thursday night, so I hope to meet some of you there (I'm afraid I've been lurking a bit around here).
Thanks, Zero!
I've attended Wizard World Austin, Mondocon, and various San Antonio cons. Wizard World gets worse every year here. I've actually flown out to Charlotte twice for Heroescon, which is by far the best con experience that I've had.
And no, I didn't plan on the brb thing!
Hello. I'm Rodney. I'm from the midwest. My wife and I tried to get SDCC tickets this year for the first time and we were lucky enough to get in with the chance to buy all days including preview (we purchased the 4 day pass w/o Preview Night. Something we might be shooting ourselves in the foot for, but maybe not.
Anyway, needless to say I've been bitten by the SDCC bug. It's probably turned into somewhat of an obsession. I blame that on selling the tickets so early and having no con information available (I understand why, but grr!)
My wife and I love San Diego. We took our honeymoon there, we went there for our first anniversary, and most recently went there for her birthday. The Gaslamp district is beautiful. I hope to be able to impart some of my SD and Gaslamp knowledge to those on this forum. So far I've received so much wonderfully useful information regarding hotel sales and offsite events. I imagine you'll be seeing me around this site pretty often for pre/post con information and celebration!
Planning has become a bit of an addiction. Just hung up this cheap whiteboard last night. Will be roughly planning our offsites, hotels, important info on this.

Thanks, Jun, I will keep an eye out for the lanyards. I saw the ad for them. Hopefully someone will bring extras of those? I'd gladly buy one! :)

Zero, to answer your question about Heroescon, what makes it great is the art. There are so many great artists there and it's pretty easy to get commissions done if you do some prep work beforehand. Plus there's great art at the art auction and a drink and draw on Friday night. Plenty of comic vendors there as well. Oh, and the programming includes a lot of art-centered panels. The two years that I went they had SCAD faculty do a couple of panels.
Welcome to the forums, Rodney! It's great to have another new forum member joining us. We'll be glad to have you before, during, and after the convention for information and celebration. ^__^
I like your white board! Personally, I think you might need a larger one for Comic-Con's listing of panels, programming, and off-site events once it gets closer to the convention, ha ha. There's so much to do!
I didn't notice this Thread up until now so will write my introduction now :)
So hello people, My name is On (Yes... Like the switch/button/nob/any other on\off reference) and after a few years of just looking at the con online, me and my Boy Friend decided to try our luck this year and go for it.
We go super lucky and got the option of buying a 4 days ticket for the both of us :) ever since I find myself looking at sites constantly and trying to plan out as much as I can in order to get this trip as fun and as good as we possibly can.
We are from the middle east so the trip to the US is not a cheap one and we are both students so we are working through what we want very carefully :)
This site so far has been so very useful in the information it provides.
So thank you for this site and for the information, I guess you will see me around here until the con more and more... the Hypetrain is real :)
Great day to you all!
P.S
Not a native English speaker so writing issues will happen I believe :) but I try my best
And what is the answer for Finish the name, Peter.....: ?!?!? -_-" third time I get it and don't know what to answer.
Great to see you here, On! I know we have at least one other member coming from the Middle East. Yes, it is a long trip, but it will be worth it, I promise you!
You may wish to arrive a day or so early, to adjust to the time zone a bit. Most of us run on very little sleep during the con, so you will want to start off well-rested!
That is the plan for now :) although I am dreading the Hotelpocalipse heading our way :P
Welcome, Andrew! It sounds like you have a lot of experience at SDCC. What do you plan to do with all of your time if you are skipping Hall H this year? :)
And of course bar hopping in the Gaslamp. :)
Hi everyone, I'm Andrew. Grew up in San Diego but moved to NYC when I was 15, and currently live here. I've been going to SDCC since 2004 with my cousin. We took last year off because we needed a break from all of the craziness. We decided to try for passes this year and managed to snag 4 day passes with preview night. Very excited to be going back! Missing last year ended up being really difficult for me. This will probably be my first con not camping out at all for Hall H (well within the past 5 years). I'm throwing in the towel, lol. Also going to be my first year trying for a downtown hotel for the entire length of the con.
Looking forward to chatting with everyone!
I've changed my screen name!
Not new, but I've decided to move to my actual name. Cracksback, no more, you can just call me Mel. This helps with confusion in person and my name was silly anyhow.
Hello all, my name is John and 2016 is going to be my 4th year running going to the con! My wife and I live in Fresno,ca and we love pretty much anything and everything to do with pop culture. We collect funko products and our one vacation a year is to San Diego for the incredible experience that is sdcc. I joined the forum last year after I heard about it from the unofficial San Diego comic con blog. This year being the fourth year at Sdcc, some of the greatest experiences my wife and I have had have been offsite( Conan bingo, nerdist, herd hq and the small panels they put on, the walking dead escape-bummer they got rid of it this year). Well hope to see some of you around the con this year!
Thanks for the warm welcome! I plan on getting a couple of lanyards this year to not only support the fourm but also to show off how awesome the friendsofcci fourm is!!
Right now I have around 300 pop figures, a couple of dorbz(mainly from the subscription boxes) and two walking dead vinyl idols. My favorite pops are bane, my Conan pops from last year and blue meth Walter white from last years con! I will definitely check out the meet ups and I'm sure I'll see you are at one for sure!
Lol, my office is a computer desk and shelf after shelf of pops! All of them proudly on display along with a few other things. My wife has a shelf of everything R2-D2. Still have plenty of room for more pops though!
Forgot to post an intro, so I thought I'd pop in and officially say hi now. I live in Virginia, and my wife and I have been going to Comic Con every other year since 2009. Went last year and decided to try to attend this year, as well. Hope it works out. Got badges, so that's one box we can check.

First SDCC but attend others where I am. I get dragged to my son's anime cons so I am dragging him to this one!
Welcome (officially) to the forums, Satam! Glad that you could join us. ^__^/
What are some things you and your wife look forward to seeing or doing at Comic-Con every year?
Hi! I'm Becky and this will be my 4th (!!!) year attending SDCC. I have three kids (12, 10 and 2) and my husband is actually the one who got me into attending the con. It was something he always wanted to do and one year he was able to score tickets for Saturday and Sunday through the resale. I wasn't really excited about going but I ended up loving it and falling absolutely in love with San Diego. We live in SC and planning the trip every year is a huge pain in the behind but it's all worth it. This has become our yearly family vacation (minus my 12 year old because she refuses to come and person she stays with loves having her) and even if we were somehow not able to get tickets one year, I think we would still try to make the trip. Besides the con itself, the whole atmosphere of downtown during that weekend is just phenomenal.
Well, up until last year, we always went to the Kevin Smith panel in Hall H. Rotten Tomatoes' "Your Opinion Sucks" was at the same time, and I have a buddy who works for them and was at that panel, so we went to that instead. I always get a big kick out of the stuff in that Sideshow Collectibles has to show (I think the wife does, too, to some extent, but I won't answer for her), and both of us like to see the Star Trek art and autographed pieces at the Light Speed Fine Art booth. Cosplay is always fun to see, and it seems like every year we've met at least one celebrity, in passing or just going for a signing or something.
Welcome to the forums, Becky! Glad that you could join our community.
It sounds like a wonderful family vacation! What are some things you and your family look forward to at Comic-Con or in San Diego every year?
Are you and your wife planning to do Hall H this year?
Thank you for the welcome! The number one thing we look forward to is the weather! lol It get SO hot and humid here and the weather in San Diego is gorgeous. As for the con, we really look forward to seeing the cosplayers. Everyone is so creative and some of the costumes are so elaborate. I love when my daughter gets super excited because she sees someone dressed as Raven from Teen Titans or like last year, we saw several people as Five Nights at Freddy's characters. Artist's Alley is my favorite place and spend more time there than I probably should.
Depends on what's gonna be there. We'd likely go back to see Kevin Smith this year, but I don't know otherwise. Last year we managed to get into the Doctor Who panel after failing in 2009, 2011, and 2013, but I think they said they'd be skipping this year because of the big hiatus.
Hello! Lesley here! Los Angeles resident, by way of Brooklyn. This is my first year going to SDCC, after finally scoring a badge. I'm a fan of the Marvel MCU, and a couple of comic book series at the moment, but I am very much a TV nerd. I try (and fail) to watch all of the shows, but my favorite one is Orphan Black!
I'm Wayne; my friend Mike pointed me to this forum for a better chance to get badges. This will be my first Comic-Con, if I go. I'm wondering if the hassle for badges and hotels is really worth it. Maybe I just do this once and cross it off my bucket list. I'm not that interested in the celebrity stuff, but I do like comic books, toys, and action movies.
Cheers,
Wayne
Welcome to the forums, Wayne! Glad that you could join us!
Unfortunately, all badges for Comic-Con 2016 are officially sold out, but you might be interested in some of the off-site events outside of the actual convention center. The majority of these off-site events don't require a badge. Check out this thread here: http://friendsofcc.com/forum/index.php?topic=5909.0
Hello, all! I've been a member of the forum since last year but only as a lurker. I was able to get a room through the Hotel Exchange last year and the room I got greatly added to my enjoyment at my first SDCC. I live in the southeastern US, I'm not married and have no kids and usually travel with my sister. I'm a hardcore Marvel fangirl, especially of the MCU. My record for attending a single movie in the theater is 20 times for The Avengers and it's going to be 21 times come May 5th because I already have tickets for the Ultimate Captain America marathon for the premiere of Civil War. Last year in addition to SDCC, I spent time at Nerd HQ, went to the Nerdist podcast with Tom Hiddleston and got into the Aisha Tyler live podcast. And I want to do it all again this year...and more! :D
Hello everyone! Loving this forum, i haven't been part of a forum since my chemical romanceand i'll admit i missed the feel of it. I've been attending SDCC since 2007. I've been a volunteer mostly but last year finally got lucky, and scored an actual badge. I'm team batman and supernatural. I hope everyone has a great year at sdcc.
Sorry for the confusion. I actually was in a buying group from FOCC and did get badges for this year. I'm mostly just a forum lurker, but trying to be more of a participant. Thanks for the welcome!
Welcome to the forums, sweetiepiepen! There are plenty of Marvel fans here, so definitely stick around! There's plenty to read and talk about. ^__^/
A very impressive record for attending a single movie!
Thanks for the welcome; much appreciated.
Now that the anticipation surrounding hotelpacolypse has ended, I can now change my focus to Civil War!
So wonderful to find this forum... I was searching the Internet for some tips for the SDCC. It will be my first year. I got mega-lucky to get a four-day badge and I want to make the best of it!
Welcome to the forums, [member=5618]MyNameIsRinoa[/member]! Glad that you could join us. If you're looking for information and tips for Comic-Con, you've definitely come to the right place!
I saw your post in the "username inspiration" thread, and I thought, "Yes! Ah-ha! I knew it!" FFVIII is awesome. ([member=3]Chris[/member] and I talk about FFVII... We're excited for the remake, but we're hoping Square Enix does a good job with it, despite the changes they're considering. Ha ha.)
^__^/ Once again, welcome!
I haven't read on the changes to FFVII... I'm afraid now. Is Aerith still gonna die or...? I'm considering her for my next cosplay.
Hi everyone,
My name is Sherice and I'm from Los Angeles. I've been a Comic Con attendee since 2006! So this year will mark my 10 year anniversary! It may be my last however. All this time I've been lucky to find a hotel or alternate lodging but not this year. Aaargh! It's kinda stressing me out because a friend from the Netherlands is flying out this summer to experience Comic Con for the first time. Fingers crossed that I do find something!
As you can tell by my avatar, I'm a big Storm fan. Second would be Michonne. But growing up, Batman and Superman were my favs. I'm curious about this whole Rebirth thing. Hopefully it's good. It's been awhile since I've picked up a Batman comic.
But back to Comic Con, I think my fav years so far are 2010 with the Avengers announcement and last year during the Star Wars panel. The live concert that followed cannot be beat!
Hello everyone, I am Cath!
I'm from the Washington DC Metropolitan Area, and will be going to SDCC this year for the third time. My first time was in 2014 for just a day, and second time was in 2015. I *think* that's where I heard about this website - from Alyssa (1) on Saturday, discussing that days exclusives. This is the first year I'm going with a number of friends, and I am really looking forward to the convention!
I do have an initial question, though - what are the really nice restaurants in the Gaslamp District, and how far in advance would I need to make a reservation in order to eat there Saturday night?
-Cath
(1) At least I think it was Alyssa. Found her business card in my luggage a couple of months ago.
Welcome to the forums, Storm! ^__^/ Pleasure to have you join our community. I think Storm is pretty awesome too. Ha ha.
There might be some Mission Valley hotels available after the April 30th deadline for a full refund of the deposit, so keep checking the various hotel threads for news updates as well as the main Comic-Con hotel page for announcements. We also have a hotel exchange/giveaway area on the forums, but at this time, there isn't a lot of activity on it.
Hope that helps, and once again, welcome to the forums! ^__^d
Hi Storm! Great to see you!
I agree with Zero. There are likely to be Mission Valley hotels available after the refund deadline at the end of the week. You should be able to get something! Historically, OnPeak has had MV hotels available even up to a week before the con.
What do you look forward to when attending Comic-Con?
Thank you all for the warm welcome!
Oddly enough, I think what I'm looking forward to the most this year is....well, camping out all night in front of the convention center to get my Hasbro or Funko exclusives! It's such a strange thing to do, but hey, it's ComicCon! Also, getting to hang out with a number of my friends I don't get to see very often, up to and including spending the night in line with them.
Hi my name is Callie I went to SDCC in 2006 and 2007 then did not go again till 2015 and now will be attending again this year. I'm originally from San Diego but due to my husband job I'm living in El Paso TX for now. But luckily my family and all my friends still live in SD so that helps on where to stay during SDCC. My favorite moment from SDCC would actually have to be from last year I got to meet Peter Capaldi the 12th Doctor from Doctor Who! I'm very excited for this year. And if you have not yet start #SDCCfit great way to get in touch with people and stay in shape! Can't wait to get talking with everyone and getting some great advice for this year SDCC!
I like Outlaner and Bobs burgers also Rick and Morty, Game of thrones, Gotham,The Flash, Arrow, legends of tomorrow, Fear the walking dead, Dare devil, Jessica Jones. Was into Once upon a time but think I'm growing tired of it. I'm sure there is more shows but so hard to remember them
Welcome to the forums, Callie! It's great that you will be able to attend Comic-Con this year. Here's to experiencing another favorite moment at this year's convention!
What other shows do you enjoy?
^__^/

all lol.
Hi [member=5884]mrmeeseeks[/member] . It sounds like you would get along great with my family. Everything you mentioned, someone in my family is a huge fan of. In fact my boys (25, 15) are thinking of cosplaying as Mr Meeseeks. My daughter who loves Guillermo, Rick and Morty, Archer, turned 21 this year and is looking for someone to hangout with especially to go dancing and bar hopping with. Feel free to pm me and I can give you my daughters email to get in touch with her. As you mentioned SDCC is a huge opportunity to meet tons of like minded people and have fun, so I'm sure you will be able to make a lot of new friends. This year will by my family's 10th SDCC ☺
Hello friends of comic con,
Long time luker here! Thought I'd join in on the fun and introduce myself, what with the con coming up, so here goes...
I'm Ines, a 21 year old college student and freelance translator/journalist coming all the way from Paris, France. This will be my 2nd year attending SDCC. Last time was back in 2012 and I had an amazing, albeit pretty overwhelming experience... And I can't wait to be overwhelmed by the madness all over again! This time around I'll be going mostly solo though, which I'm a little nervous about, but hopefully this will be an opportunity to make friends! I'd love to find some people to hit up a few off sites/parties or even line up with, but I know I'll still have a great time either way. Besides, I doubt you're ever truly alone at comic con!
I love all things sci-fi and horror and I love comics. Marvel is great and all but I'm a DC fangirl at heart, grew up watching BTAS and JLU, which eventually got me into comics. I'm really looking forward to all the DC and DCEU stuff this year. I also like non-superhero comics like Saga, The Walking Dead, Fables, Preacher, The Incal, and many more. Both my parents work in the french comic book industry so I guess my love for comics runs in the family! I also watch a looot of television, and movies too. I'm in love with everything Guillermo del Toro does and some of my favorite shows include The X-Files, Twin Peaks, Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul, Battlestar Galactica, Rick and Morty, Archer and Silicon Valley, to name a few. I'm always up for a 6+ hour long marathon as long as there's enough food around (I did the obligatory LotR extended edition in one sitting once... Good times!)
Anyway, I have a 4 day pass with Preview Night and I can't wait to enjoy every second of it with the rest of you!
Fantastic forum, by the way. Very informative, helped me a lot in 2012 (like I said, long time lurker), keep up the good work!
Hey, thanks for the welcome Zero!
I'm afraid I won't be able to make it on Tuesday, I'll be driving down the coast from San Francisco and am scheduled to arrive in San Diego on Wednesday morning, but thanks anyway and I'll be on the lookout for other meet-ups!
Can't believe I forgot Batman Beyond! Those shows are my childhood, I'd catch reruns on french television when I was a kid but I'm glad I got to watch it again in English since then, the French dubs were pretty bad (as they usually are, nothing beats watching things in their original language imo). DC has done some great stuff in animation, I really enjoyed their movies too, Under the Red Hood, Flashpoint, Mask of the Phantasm... And I really want to check out the Killing Joke premiere at the con!
Comics are a big industry in France and are pretty highly regarded as a form of literature, we even go so far as to call it the "Ninth Art". There's a long Franco-Belgian tradition that's shaped the market distinctively. Here comics are called "bandes dessinees" or "BDs" and there are no monthly issues, instead they're released as "albums", hardcover books that usually span over 40/50 pages, similar to graphic novels. They used to be mostly humor and comedy and while those are still popular, there are also a lot of more mature, adult-oriented books now, especially since we never had a Comics Code here! Genres vary but we do have some great science fiction! (My parents deal mostly in sci-fi so I might have a small bias aha!) There are also some pretty famous anthologies like Metal hurlant (Heavy Metal).
And yeah, I recently started writing for a magazine on pop/geek culture, they're a small outlet so they've never sent anyone to San Diego before but they seem interested in me covering the con. So thanks, I'll be sure to check out all the resources here, it's never too early to start prepping for next year!
Hello, everyone!
I recently joined the forums since I was able to get a guest pass to SDCC and wanted to introduce myself. I’m Andee, a 30-something grad student living in Washington state. I’ve been to other large conventions (mainly gaming ones, like PAX and Gencon) but nothing on the scale of SDCC. My geeky interests tend to be in the sci-fi/fantasy (evident in my Whovian username) and gaming arenas (mainly RPGs, whether video gaming or tabletop) and I’m very excited about attending SDCC for the first time.
These forums have been a great resource for information and news; I’m very appreciative of having all this info in one place and for everyone sharing their insights, questions, links, etc — it helps a lot, thank you! :)
Welcome to the forums, TejanJ! So glad that you decided to join our growing community! I do hope you will continue to stick around throughout the year. ^.~
What are some things you are looking forward to for your first Comic-Con?
Thank you; I'll probably check back in periodically throughout the year; it seems like a pretty nice community. :-)
As far as SDCC goes, I'm most interested in some of the (hopefully) smaller panels like the spotlights on Peter David and G. Willow Wilson, and some of the offsites/get togethers where I can see friends I haven't seen in awhile & meet some I haven't met in person yet (especially excited for Wayward Cocktails).
I'm not planning to brave Hall H, but I'll probably camp out one night to try for autos/exclusives so I can at least say I've done it once. I did see that Robbie Thompson is on a panel Sunday, so if I am able to meet him, that will pretty much be the highlight of my con experience. :-)
Hey hey, just a follow up. Missed out on the SDCC at the time, but instead we're going to Chicago Comic Con. Super excited....as much as we'd have loved to done SDCC...Chicago will be awesome all the same i'm sure.
Super jealous of all the SDCC attendees...keep seeing vids and hearing people from work saying they've seen bits on the news, Exciting!

My name is Gabriel. I've been going to various cons for a few years now. This was my first where I met a lot of forum members. I'm glad too (everyone was super nice and easy to talk to). I can't wait to see some of them again either in NY or hopefully next year in SD.
My favorite superhero show right now is The Flash. I really only watch Arrow because of the crossovers. Same with Supergirl. Legends is pretty good, but Arrow is still my number 1....as far as DC. I think Marvel is doing it right with all their shows. I can't wait until Luke Cage comes out.
And I'm also a recent Marvel pin collector. Thanks Comicon.
Hi all! ^-^
Brand new to this forum, will be attending my first CC (hopefully) next year! I live in Australia so it's been a bit difficult to attend beforehand haha. Not sure what else to say, you want to be brief but there's a lot to people - in general :P ;) I've only attended a few cons here, AVCon and Oz Comic-Con, the latter of which I was working. Oh boy. My legs and back after that weekend haha! Hoping to cosplay next year, each year I try to go a little better. Last year went as Cheryl from Archer, this year managed to madly create my avatar from Pokemon Go within a week haha not the greatest but that's okay :) the point is to have fun and show your enjoyment for whatever is your favourite thing at the time. Fingers crossed next year I can pull of a double cosplay of Lulu from FFX and Olivier Mira Armstrong from FMA:BH :D So if anyone knows of a good material store/sewing machine in California please let me know! Haha
I was actually introduced to this forum by my friend, [member=1233]jopari[/member] :) Hi! Looking forward to all of this and attending the motherland of Cons with you next year! ^-^ <3

Hello I live in Wales in the UK. I would love to fly over one year to attend San Diego Comic con, It would be nice If I could make some friends who attend comic Com. I have seen the videos on You-tube and it's something I would love to experience.
Does anyone use Facebook or twitter?
Hello all. I'm Khai and I've been to SDCC for around ten years. My husband's from SD and has been going for most of his life. We live over on the East Coast with my service dog Fargo and a pair of weird cats.Luck!
The last few years I have been going with a professional friend, but this year she isn't coming (she's foreign and worried about the US Border). Turns out guests of professionals don't count as returning attendees, so I'm having to brave open registration. Wish me luck!

Oh man, my favorite things...that's a hard one. I love the author and artist panels, especially the smaller ones upstairs where you can talk to the authors after. I also like the weird panels, like the one led by the military who were talking about how to use the military in film. Early screenings are great chances to rest after running around. I want to make a couple of the Cosplay how-to panels this year (somehow I keep missing them). Also, we usually wander over to the game room to see what new games are being shown off.
My least favorite things are the crowds. 0/10, do not like... but then, who does?
Thanks for the advice on the buying group. I did get accepted into one, so I'm hopeful about my chances.
Hi everyone, my name is Aurora. :)
One of my friends was telling me about how awesome friendsofcc is, so I figured I should make a profile and introduce myself!
I'm from socal and work in a STEM field, which I absolutely love. I enjoy casual photography and messing around with my ukulele.
I'm a huge Star Wars fan! Have been since 10 year old me watched phantom menace for the first time (I know, not that great, but 10 y/o me loved it).
I'm really into Marvel, and lately I've been getting into some DC stuff, including Supergirl, which has quickly become one of my favorite shows.
A few other interests include Mass Effect and Game of Thrones.
I haven't been to SDCC yet, but I'm hoping this year is the first of many! I've probably gone to Anime Expo at about 6 or 7 times.
Welcome to the forums, [member=6769]aurorabeam[/member]! (Is that also a reference to the Pokemon move in the games?! Ha ha.)
Glad that you could join us in our community here! Very cool. STEM fields are awesome. I did in a STEM major and am currently pursuing a Master of Forensic Science. ^__~
You'll find a lot of people with similar interests around these parts, and you may even be able to meet some of them in person at some of the meet-ups. More details and information will follow as it gets closer and closer to Comic-Con, but some forum members plan meet-ups to hang out during con. You'll see the SDCC 2017 Meet-Ups Summary (http://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/index.php?topic=7547.0) thread get more active later on, so check back every so often to see what's up.
Definitely join a badge buying group to get some extra help in trying for Comic-Con badges during the open (or general) registration sale. We have two new groups who can take in some new members. ^__~
Check out the thread here: http://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/index.php?topic=7575.0
What kind of things will you be looking forward to seeing at Comic-Con?
Once again, welcome!
Thanks for the welcome, [member=317]Zero[/member]! :)
Yup, my user name is a Pokemon reference hahaha. I loved the series as a kid, and recently got into it again with Pokemon Go.
Masters in Forensic Science? That's awesome! That honestly sounds like a really interesting field of study. Do they let you guys practice on real cases?
Thanks for the link to the meet ups! I recently went to a convention and met some amazing people, so I'm definitely open to meeting people/making friends at SDCC. I think the great thing is that most people already have shared interests.
Yup, joined a buying group that my friend recommended, so all set there. *fingers crossed*
So I've heard there's a crazy amount of events that happen at once, and that it's hard to narrow down what to do. But if I had to choose my top events, I'd say anything Star Wars related, and definitely any Supergirl, Wynonna Earp, OUAT, or Walking Dead panels.
Hey everyone! I'm Carolyn, and I'm new here :) I'm hoping to attend SDCC this year on Sunday of that weekend! I've lived in Southern California most of my life and went to college in San Diego but I've never been able to attend the con. Hoping this is my year!
Hello, I am Yann and i am french :))
I have attended SDCC last year and the year before.
Last year i discovered your forum but didnt have time to register before the opem registration :/
This year i hope this time i am not too late :)
Hi everyone! I've been to going to SDCC for the last 9 years. Grew up there in SD, moved away, and now I go back every summer for CC. Favorite shows- Supernatural (excited for the new season!), Arrow, Iron Fist, X-Files (looking forward to reading Earth Children Are Weird). Always keep my Hulk hands close!
Hi! I'm Lola and I'm From Mexicali, a border city about 2hrs away from SD.
Last year (2016) was my first time in SD during CC, but was just ghosting around the convention, on the offsite events and I was amazed with all the things happening around! So this year (2017) will be my first time attending SDCC and volunteering.
A little of me: I'm a Chemist who also works and study animal science. My inner geeky went "out of closet" about 10 years ago, but I've never had a chance to go to a big Con.
I came across this blog a month ago and found it super helpful! All I needed to know is somewhere here, I love it! And love how nice and quickly you guys answer all the questions!
I guess... That's all for now. I hope I'll get to know some of you during SDCC, but unfurtunatelly, all the meet ups are outside my actual travel schedule
Hi! Thought I might introduce myself seeing as I'm a new member. :)welcome to the board. be sure to come to the meetup on tuesday. you'll meet a lot of people to hang out with during the week ;)
I'm Anna and SDCC2017 will be my first SDCC! Only managed to get a Sunday badge, but will be there beforehand to enjoy all the offsite offerings- I figured I would take advantage of the opportunity since I'll be flying from Australia for it (don't worry, I didn't hedge all my bets on SDCC, I'm also going to see Hamilton and I'll be at D23 Expo too). I'm a big Star Wars and Marvel fan, but I follow a lot of TV shows and film directors and comic book writers/artists.
Anywho, I can't wait to experience the madness that is SDCC and I can't wait to participate on this board- it looks like a great place for tips and hints for novices like me and a helpful community!
A belated welcome to [member=6994]go_anna40[/member] and [member=4314]accelerate[/member]!
Welcome, [member=6184]Breq[/member], to the forums! ^-^/
It's always great to see new people join our community! If you haven't already, check out the meet-up thread for forum members to meet and hang out in person during Comic-Con:
http://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/index.php?topic=7547.0
As it gets closer to the convention, more meet-ups may also pop up. (Or, if you're interested in setting one up, go for it!)
As for the current discussion at hand:
I also volunteer for Comic-Con and have been doing so for a while now. I enjoy helping out and learning about different departments (I do wish scheduling shifts would go much faster, since in recent years, it's taken a few hours to through the line, especially in the afternoon, to get a shift for the next day). I sometimes wish you could take more than one three-hour shift a day though... Ha ha. :X
I like to plan so I've been really active in here this year so far
Been on this forum for two or three years now but had only previously posted to sell/trade off-site tickets to stuff and only really getting active into it this year around Hotelpocalypse, etc. I'm Christine - from Brooklyn, NY, and this will be my 4th year going to the convention and third year as press - I like to plan so I've been really active in here this year so far
Thanks for the welcome! :)
I just wish they would just let you schedule your next shift immediately after finishing one... you're supposed to come back two hours later, but that's really inconvenient! I was sometimes allowed to schedule my next shift right away and sometimes not.
You are very welcome!
For me, I usually do a shift that ends after the 1:30 pm scheduling time, so I don't usually have to wait two hours to schedule the next day. Although, by the time you get to the front of the line, it already is two hours later... >__<
Other than volunteering, what else do you like seeing or doing at Comic-Con?
Oh, usually I try to see a lot of panels, but it depends on the year, of course! Last year's highlights for me were American Gods and John Barrowman (always hilarious!) I also love seeing people's cosplay and meeting people and just... the whole con atmosphere. I enjoy smaller cons too, but none of them have quite the same excitement as Comic-Con.
Ben, it sounds like you might be interested in offsites as well. They are basically like extended 'super-editions' of exhibit floor booths.
Hello!
Just wanted to say HI. Name is Ben and i'm from Orlando, Fl. Hopefully going to try and go to SDCC 2018 for the first time ever. Biggest Con I have been to is MegaCon in Orlando. But looking forward to the challenge.
I'm like 50/50 if I would like it or not but I think I would. I am 100% content walking around spending way too much money on nerdy things and taking a TON of pics with Cosplayers (with permission of course) and not really interested in the hassle of camping out to get Funko or Hall H. Now that being said for like an Archer panel I might be willing to camp out YOLO. But mainly just want to see all the big exhibits and get as much "swag" as I can. And seeing cosplayers which I love to do!
Welcome to the forums, [member=7547]bennyb86[/member]! Glad that you could join us and be a part of our community. There's plenty of information around here about merchandise, exclusives, figures, and even meet-ups to see fellow forum members in person at con, so definitely take some time to check it all out. Feel fee to ask questions, and participate and contribute to discussions.
I hope you'll be able to attend Comic-Con for the first time as well! It's very exciting!
What are some things you might be interesting in buying in the Exhibit Hall (based on photos you've seen online from Comic-Con 2017 or what you've see at MegaCon in the past)?
Once again, welcome!
Have been on the forum for about a month but haven't posted on the introduction thread yet!
My name is Anne, this is going to be the first year I'm trying to go to SDCC! Planning to go with two friends and we are already very excited. I live in Texas and I'm a funko pop collector! I do collect a few other things here and there but my main collection is funko pops lol

Hello! I'm draccy and 2018 will be my *counts* 6th SDCC! Will be because my group of friends and I successfully got through Returning Registration this morning.
One of my friends has been a member here for a few years and urged me to join because it's a good bunch of people, and a good place to get tips, and share tips. So I registered in 2015 because I had a hotel reservation I didn't need, and she said to post it here instead of releasing it into the wild. I posted it in chat and I think within 5 minutes it was gone, heh.
A bit about myself: I'm in California (though, alas, not San Diego), my favorite thing about SDCC is that there's so much going on that I can make each year a totally different experience depending on what I choose to prioritize, and my boyfriend was Reddit front-page famous for his costume in 2014 lol.
yay! Hi [member=4551]draccy[/member] !! I've known draccy for a bazillion years and we've been doing SDCC together since 2013 when I dragged her and my bff with me! Fun fact: We met online in a Nine Inch Nails forum in like 1999!Hahaha yeah in the forever ago days pre social media when people were all, omg you talk to strangers?! :D
Thank you Zero :)
Comics: I'm super loving Image comics. Monstress is my #1 favorite right now, Saga is amazing, I'm really enjoying Lazarus which I got because I dig Greg Rucka. Back in the forever ago days of my youth (the 1990s) I was a Marvel comics girl, and especially loved the X-Men titles. I'm thinking of getting into 2000AD stuff because I have a friend who works for them.
Movies: I love the MCU. It strikes a good balance between the different movies of fun and serious. I'm very unhappy with the DC movie-verse's grimdark all the things and think Zack Snyder needs to, like, go away. Wonder Woman was fantastic because of his minimal involvement in the movie.
TV: umm... how much time do you have? lol I'm behind on many of my shows because I decided that grad school was a thing I should do. Who needs a life, amirite? In no particular order: the Marvel Netflix series (sans Iron Fist because omg the acting and writing were soooooooooooo bad. Like I could've gotten over one if it weren't for the other. Favorite part of The Defenders was Luke Cage laying out Danny Rand.) I believe my avatar accurately conveys my love for Daredevil especially, though. Then there's Doctor Who, though I'm behind. Stranger Things, though I have many things due next week so I don't have time to watch it until probably Thanksgiving. Legion was an absolutely amazing show in all the ways - visually, acting, writing, music, feel, and oh my god Aubrey Plaza. Preacher. Rick and Morty. Sens8, which I keep hoping deep down that it will get picked up by someone else who'll keep it going so JMS and the Wachowskis can see their vision through. I used to love Supernatural so much that I slept outside my first SDCC to see the panel, but I lost interest about 3 years ago when they just kept on recycling material. I saw the first season of Mr. Robot and it was awesome, but I'm behind on that show too. And I can't friggin wait for the Netflix Punisher show to come out. I'm not usually a Punisher fan, but Daredevil Season 2 totally sold me on this iteration of the character.
And last but not least, my favorite fantasy writers right now are NK Jemisin and Brandon Sanderson.
yay! Hi [member=4551]draccy[/member] !! I've known draccy for a bazillion years and we've been doing SDCC together since 2013 when I dragged her and my bff with me! Fun fact: We met online in a Nine Inch Nails forum in like 1999!
Ha ha, nice! It's great to see more people on here. [member=3]Chris[/member] would be proud that you have successfully recruited a lurker into becoming more active and joining in on conversations. (Mwuhahahahahaha!)
I'll keep an eye out. My SDCC evening plans go along the lines of "inaugural Wednesday night dinner with my group," followed by "eat and drink at Lion's Share as often as possible."
Oh for sure SDCC has ALL the fandoms, and more. I'm already building a mental list of things I want for next year. For example, I hope that American Gods does a panel in 2018. I saw the 2016 one and squeed so hard, and was sad there was no 2017 panel.
I feel like this is a golden age for television, and I love it, but it's really hard to keep up. Thankfully with streaming I don't feel bad putting off things to watch in order to do things like not fail out of grad school.
I have a lurker recruitment quota. :)
I'm getting a Master's in Public Health. 6.5 months left, then I'll be a free woman again! It's a weird love-hate relationship between me and school. I adore most of what I'm learning. I hate the stress of constantly having something to do. It doesn't give me the space I need to let my brain rest because, even if I'm procrastinating, my brain is going over all the things I have to get done. Undergrad was easier, even though I double majored, because I cared less. But something happened to me between undergrad and now, and now I'm all "omg my GPA." Even though I'm certainly not going to ever get a PhD, so my GPA doesn't matter for anything except my personal issues with impostor syndrome.
What are you studying?
Well, I will do my official intro lol My name is Christina... while nerdy in my own way it is my husband who is the major player in the house. We are in our 40’s and have 3 kids one of which is now out on her own (yay!!!). We live on the edge of LA county and Orange County in Cali in Cerritos.
2017 was our first SDCC and when I found this place a little too late but I am making up for that!!!
Everyone in my house likes something different so it becomes a challenge pulling off SDCC but we make it work! We drove down last year but think this year we are going to take the train... something different and I won’t have to worry about parking but that also depends on hotel
Good to meet you all officially!!

Hi Christina! @clambert1273
Welcome to the forum! We are all our own kind of nerdy. I’m a pop culture/ TV nerd while my husband is nerdy about science and beer...though he’s bringing me around to the beer. :)
What kinds of things are you into? What do you like to see at SDCC?

Welcome to the forums, [member=7390]clambert1273[/member]! Glad that you could join us in our community!
What are some fandoms you enjoy?
Ahhh well that is mostly my daughter and hubby’s realm... I am the gamer girl (have been forever) so that is where I always was... in the RPG realm But I am totally expanding my horizons thanks to this group and them lol
I would have to guess my biggest that I follow is Vampire Chronicles (Anne Rice)... I read a lot but I tend to reread my favorites. I have read Outlander series, GoT series and the Vampire Chronicles (Mayfair witches etc..) more times than I can count...
I get a lot of exposure to Harry Potter from my youngest so I just roll with it for her :) my husband is ALL THINGS Star Wars and my son is ALL Anime so I kind of just get yanked all around
Oh my! A fellow gamer! *high fives* What are your favorite RPGs? What have you been playing lately? I never should have started this, but I've been playing Kingdom Hearts Union Cross. I'm not really a fan of MMORPGs--I didn't really play them when I was younger because it consumes too much time--but curiosity got the better of me last year when it first came out, and I've been doing it ever since (also my party's leader so I have to keep people motivated and organized, ha ha). Ugh, too many raid bosses. It's gotten a bit repetitive. >__<
I love Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. I haven't yet read the latest book (the one with Atlantis), but I'll get around to it eventually, ha ha.
Ha ha, it sounds like you do have a good mix of fandoms in your household! Have you attended or thought of attending any other conventions, like for Stars Wars, Harry Potter, or anime?
Oh my lol well I am very old school with my RPG’s so since they never make new ones worth anything, I go back and play my old Baulder’s Gate II and maybe Neverwinter Nights sometimes.. I do still like some old Diablo so will fire that up as well... I love Kingdom Hearts but I do NOT like MMORPG’s and I rarely will play anything online lol told ya, I am very old school & picky in my games but I also do love me Final Fantasy but XIII was my line in the sand... I like it well enough after it opens up ... I think Dragon Age was the better most recent RPG I played and replay that one too lol
You opened that can the Atlantis book was good but you can tell the difference in her writing now as opposed to the earlier chronicles...
If it was up to them they would try to attend everything; however, I have to be the mean person and say due to the expense of SDCC they have to choose so they pick SDCC lol
Oh I can NEVER have too many Final Fantasies.. I just wish they would go back to them at their best: turn based and incredible stories.... OHH Lost Odyssey was fantastic!!
Old Zelda yes but not the others you mentioned lol my husband NEVER will buy a game for me because of my pickiness unless I specifically ask for it lol my guilty pleasure is the Assassin’s Creed series and I play those (just got the new one lol)
Hello I am a nerd and con attendee. My name is Morgan however you can call me Inali or Malk
I enjoy comic books, video games, nerdy TV shows, and much more. I normally go to DCC however I want to go to some of the bigger cons.
A little of other things. I have a cat named Eddie spaghetti to dogs Joan and Parker and a parrot named Jack. When I'm not at work I'm creating costumes or trying to catch up on sleep
Took a while to find this thread, so hopefully it's still "the thread" for it. I've been doing SDCC for several years now, but mostly relying on my own knowledge and sometimes the Unofficial SDCC Blog news feed. Decided to join mostly for the hotel exchange on behalf of a disabled friend, but also because I haven't been part of a forum community in like 10 years, and I miss the camaraderie. Hoping I'll make some friends here too!
Oh, and I almost posted without intro. (Bops head.) Name's Jackie, I'm in my 30's. I'm a pretty typical millennial nerd dabbling in a little bit of almost everything: what I'm most into changes with the seasons or something. Regarding comics specifically I don't do Marvel vs DC--both are good and bad at different times in different places/ways. I don't read a lot of it in terms of quantity, but when I find a manga I like I really love manga too.
I think that's it? Hi!
Hi all, I'm Gerry from the Philadelphia area and have attended SDCC since 2014 with only one year off due to a work conference. I've frequented another board/blog and generally winged it on my own until a friend recommended this forum uber alles - I can already see he's right ! Super eager to share valuable intel and celebrate our fandom later this Summer. Thanks in advance for the warm welcome...Gerry is a work colleague and all-around great guy that loves this stuff so please welcome him aboard! Great to see you here man!
"ET" is short for my tumblr handle, which I'm tired of now but kind of like the simplicity of just "ET." :P
In the past I've been more of a panel person. I like to try and get into Hall H on Saturday for the big presentations, but last year was such a disaster with the line cutting and moving the line around for the Vikings thing etc., I'm not sure I'll try again unless they roll out some system changes that utilize the RFID in the badges or SOMETHING to get things under control. Waiting to see if they change anything!

Yeah, someone else actually started calling me it and it reminded me of E.T. too, so no worries. I like it either way.
Sorry, I mentioned Vikings because last year they had a funeral procession or something that forced the latter half of the Hall H line to be relocated along the harbor towards the Sea Port village--it was a whole thing that added to the confusion of the Hall H line. I don't actually watch Vikings. :-[
In general, I just like a good story and fun characters. If something has that, I'll probably be into it.

Hello :)
My name is Cynthia. I've been attending SDCC since 2007, WC since its move to Anaheim. I attended Latino Comics & Expo in Long Beach once too. I live in California, north of LA in the valley. I actually joined this forum back 2013 and then forgot my login information. Lol.
I have a lot of Fandoms across books and comics, film, and television: Harry Potter, LOTR, The Walking Dead, The Sandman, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, B5, SG1, Star Trek and Star Wars, X-Files, and so much more. These are just off the top of my head. I LOVE science fiction and fantasy. I'm a science nerd, too.
I appreciate this forum. So many of you ready to help with questions and advice.
Hi, all. Didn't know about this thread. I'm relatively new here. Been going to SDCC since 2012, if I remember correctly. This year, I've finally settled on a housing strategy I will be using for the rest of my years going to SDCC, unless OnPeak changes things up.
Last year, my daughter and I got really good seats at a panel she wanted to see. Our strategy worked, so we hashed out our plan for this year.
For whatever reason, I'm super excited about this year, even though I'm guessing the my beloved Star Wars won't be in Hall H. :( I did get my chance to be in there when they were there last. That was super awesome.

Welcome to the forums, [member=8132]puppy[/member]! Other than Star Wars, what are some other things you're a fan of?
Star Wars! LOL.
I can't remember what we went to see last year, because really, it was just for her. I have no idea who the guy was, but it was fun all the same.
My best friend, also a member of the forum, took me to my first one and I have been HOOKED ever since! That's me! I'm the best friend! Hahah so glad you finally got here!
Hello, first time posting on here since a friend said i should sign up. I have been going to SDCC since 2011. My best friend, also a member of the forum, took me to my first one and I have been HOOKED ever since!
My fandoms are Wonder Woman, Steven Universe, Star Wars, Funko, Harry Potter, Penny Dreadful, Grimm & a lot more, lol. I could be here all day listing them. I live in New Orleans, land of tourists and oppressive summer heat.
I am not good at this introduction phase, lol. What else should I add?
Hi all! I have been hearing about this forum from Cat, so i finally decided to take the plunge and join! Been going to SDCC since 2007 and have not looked back. So hi! look forward to enjoying this.

Hello! Everyone, I probably should have introduced myself sooner but here I am.
I've only been going to SDCC since 2017. My first year attending was purely by luck. I was always told not to bother trying to get a badge because you will never get picked or it was to expensive neither true.
I took the plunge in 2017 signed up for a member id and got Thursday/Sunday. Of course I was shocked .. when I told my husband and friends they couldn't believe it but still had no desires to attend.
Well this year I got Friday/Sat because I thought two days would be enough. Well it wasn't but I was OK just being able to attend. I found line buddies and was able to get into Hall H and ballroom 20. Those same friends as well as my husband went everyday just to hang outside watch the cosplay and attend all of the fabulous events around SDCC.
I cant say my friends will ever venture inside but my husband is now excited to attend 2019 SDCC.
My favorite fandoms are Wonder Woman, Super girl . Thor, Aqua man and many more. I could go on for days talking about it. Yes I will hangout on this forum . Hopefully I will be able to meet some new people.
I hope to meet new friends. Hopefully, I will make even more friends in a few months. Hint! Hint!
Hi everyone, my name is Matt; I was dragged here by Mike Mukalian; SDCC veteran. For me, this will be my third attempt to attend, hoping for some luck this time around. I just attended Comic Con NY and had a blast; looking forward to finally landing the King of Cons in my "accomplished" list. :)

NYCC was great!
The t-shirt hunting was excellent, there were a ton of goodie collectibles; even some suspiciously discounted Warhammer 40k kits.
I'm in to all things sci-fi; and some comic book stuff; though nowhere near as accomplished as Mike is on that.
Some of the costumes; there was an *amazing* Red skull costume there that was one of the best I've ever seen. There were a number of other excellent cosplay individuals and ensembles. The woman doing the haunted dolls from the "Annabel" and related films basically sat and held her pose for hours only occasionally moving to scare the HELL out of anyone who got too close. It was impressive.

Hi, my name is Jessica. I started going to SD comic con in 2009, I think, and have gone most years since. This year I went to WonderCon for the first time too. I have a couple of partners in crime that I cosplay with. We like to do group costumes. I currently live in a town a bit north of San Diego and have lived in San Diego or the surrounding areas for most of past several years. I was on the east coast for awhile too. So I have been to SD comic con as both a local and a traveler. I know the area pretty well, as well as getting around and the hotels and traveling here, so hopefully I can be of some help to others! I discovered this forum while doing hotel research. (The commute would be a bit too far, so we'll be staying in San Diego this year.) This forum is amazing, and I'm excited to connect with others who love cons and cosplay!
Welcome to the forums, [member=8904]kitty_dodge[/member]! Glad to have you join us! I'm sure your knowledge about getting around San Diego will be helpful to others in our community.
What are your favorite fandoms? What cosplays have you done?
Hi my name is Ferd. I was born and raised on the beautiful island of Guam and now reside in the Bay Area.
My first convention was San Diego Comic Con and that was in 2014, late bloomer I know. However this wasn’t the first time I heard of the amazing ness, first time was around 2000 when I spoke to a comic book store owner who introduced me to SDCC and the stories he told. Since then I tried to attend but of course life gets in the way Haha in a good way. I got married and had kids so needless to say my desire took a backseat for now. Up to the current date we have been very fortunate to get tickets for 5 years straight and almost missed out this year if not for a great buying group who saved us!!! Thanks FoCC buying group!!! My 9 year old son loves to go despite him being very shy and enjoys the atmosphere and all the cool art and of course majority of his favorite shows. So let’s hope for many more years of SDCC and many more memories.
So thank you admins/ moderators/etc for holding down an awesome forum!!!

Hi! my name is Sara and I've been fortunate to attend SDCC since 2013. We missed 2014...so sad I cried. It's become a tradition when we get badges for my oldest son(16) and me to drive to San Diego. So much fun... We've made some unforgettable memories. We're semi local in Orange county and have been to Wondercon a couple of times. This board has been an amazing resource for me and I just realized that I never introduced myself before. I don't post much, I'm a busy mom and part time accountant. Plus I'm shy and always think twice about speaking out. But I LOVE what Alyssa and Chris have done here... Thank you for this website and all of your hard work!!!
Thanks for the warm welcome!
Favorite fandoms: I love so many of them... Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Games of Thrones (One of my SDCC highlights is meeting George RR Martin!), Lord of the Rings (Obsessed with Weta!!) to name a few
Cosplays: We've done Kung Fury, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Infinity War Avengers at SDCC, as well as few video game characters. We did Resident Evil 2 Remake for Wondercon. I think we'll be doing End Game Avengers for SDCC this year, but we're still deciding.
I'm glad to be on this forum, and I hope to have a wonderful experience here.Hi there, @Clown001! Welcome to the forum. Glad to have you join us in our comminity.
Hi... so... it's been awhile, so I thought I better re-introduce myself.
I'm A.j. - I met some of you at SDCC in 2013, 2014, and 2015, and did the exclusives list for 2015. (I also offered to do the 12-egg omelette challenge at Broken Yolk, but no one took me up on it...) I'm BFFs with Birmabang (Diego). I took a break from SDCC for a few years, but I've found that I really MISS it, and have decided to jump back into the fray. I plan on curling up and reading reading reading the boards again. I hope to attend in 2020 because it's a milestone year for me.
About me: I work with words and I read way too much than is probably healthy. I enjoy reading all types of SF, but not so much fantasy. I currently dig The Expanse (books and TV), The Man in the High Castle, Strange Angel, Bob's Burgers, all types of comics (especially small press). I occasionally publish a zine called Syndicate Product (hence my screen name). I work in Philly and live just outside of it.
So, glad to meet you all again... and I look forward to contributing on the boards, and helping out when the time comes with buying groups, tips, and such!

hi ya'll :) Spiffy aka Spiff bkn Acasha here
Ive actually been a lurker for two years, finding the information shared on this forum to be so helpful! Ive finally decided to actually introduce myself lol
If you're a member of the Funko Funatics board, Ive been member there for few years now.
2019 was my third SDCC and Im totally an addict to the amazing madness!
I think I finally feel con-competent enough to try and find a buying group to join or start one myself. I know you guys aren't open to newbies here, but hoping maybe to make friends regardless and figure out how to get something going on my own.
Really, just want to make friends. And stop being creepy lurker haha. ^-^
What are your favorite fandoms? Also, what aspects about Comic-Con interest you (panels, autographs, toy figure exclusives, etc.)?
Thanks for the warm welcome! Favorite fandom is Star Wars, but I love so much more. Grew up reading fantasy novels, playing video games, and binge-watching television. Truly just love pop culture. As far as comic-con, I'd love to make it to a panel one day, but so far Ive had too much fun cruising the exhibit floor. My happy place at SDCC is artist alley. Ive gotten to meet so many cool people and score such great original art work. Im totally addicted! Despite being a life-long nerd, getting into collecting Funko is really what kicked off my now almost concerning pop-culture collecting habit :D
Hello... again!
Hi. Apologies for the long absence. I'm A.j. (SyndE), who is usually found with her BFF, Diego (birmabang). I will be attending SDCC this year, but D is sitting it out, so I will be solo and hope that I can meet up with some of y'all again. I haven't been to SDCC since 2015 and am eager to get back. Not staying in the Gaslamp this year, but still hoping to have fun. I can't make the Wednesday breakfast, but hope to maybe make Sunday dinner (although I fly back home on a red-eye later that night).
It's been a very long, strange two years for me, too much misery to go into here, and I am really looking forward to seeing that convention center again. And, back on the boards. I have a lot to catch up on!
xo,
a.j.
Hope you can make the Sunday dinner, SyndE! We would love to see you!
Hello Everyone! I’m David from Chicago. First attended SDCC in 2016 after a few years of trying and have loved it ever since. I met @Michael M (https://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2539) this weekend in the Todd McFarlane line at New York Comic Con and he did a great job selling the site and community. Looking to possibly join a buying group for returning reg if it’s not too late. I’m already anxious/excited for Saturday.Easy "sell" here...this community's fantastic. Take a tour, dive on in, and enjoy the camaraderie, communication and collaboration around all things cons :)

As a Mets fan, this sports morning is not the most cheerful for me...but something tells me you grok that!@marcia29 (https://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=352), I didn't realize you were a Mets fan. I would have made more of an effort to razz you in our latest buying group message :) All love!

Hoping the Padres can challenge the Dodgers and manage a couple of wins (3 would be nice though :D). They've had our number for a while, but anything can happen in playoffs.
Go Padres!

@Michael M (https://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2539) - Nice! This is the time for emotional highs and lows in MLB. Enjoy! I will be watching from the sidelines....after I recover from last night's disaster for the Mets. ONE hit...really?!I was shocked at that...for a team that played so well during the season, to get blanked there at the end...I was like "wow".
I was shocked at that...for a team that played so well during the season, to get blanked there at the end...I was like "wow".Yeah as a San Diego resident my loyalties in MLB are fairly obvious; I'm originally from Cleveland, so I had a very fun weekend of baseball cheering - IIRC the only time since I've lived in SD that both of my teams advanced in the playoffs the same years (typically one is up while the other is down, or often both are down).
Then again, I was cheering against them, cause, well, Mets :D
Hello,
I'm looking forward to participating in discussions and meeting new people.
I'm 36 and have 3 kids, love anything superheros and Simpsons related.
I love watching my kids sports and doing bodybuilding myself.
musclemom1234
I’m brand new to SDCC. This will be my first year attending and I’m beyond excited. I’ve been to a few smaller cons in Texas and Northern California but nothing like SDCC. I am fortunate enough that I know someone in a group and he invited me to join. There is absolutely no way I would have gotten tickets on my own because neither of my ids made the cut. This is a bucket list item for me but hopefully it’s only the first of many.
Hey there! Welcome to the Friends of Comic Cons forum! I'm glad to hear you were able to get badges - not quite the same as "tickets", ha ha - this year!
Is there anything in particular that you'd like to see at con? Any favorite fandoms?
Hello, and a belated welcome to the forum! What are your favorite superheros, and did you like the most recent Treehouse of Horror Simpsons episode? Ha ha.

Welcome to the board! The community as I’m sure you’ve seen is great. Quite the commitment coming from Australia. I spent some time in Sydney and absolutely loved it.
Hi everyone my name Shevonne,
i found out about the forum in a SDCC Facebook group I am apart of. I'm from Detroit, mi. Next year will be my third SDCC. I am really big horror and Simpsons fan. but at the con I like to do as much as I can, offsites, panels, buying exclusives, celebrity watching lol, parties. I'm down for it all lol. Excited to be apart of the forum.
