Saw him in "The Russians are Coming" in the theater!!!

My problem with really funny movies is I spend so much time laughing, I forget the plot.  He was very funny!!!   :hystery:

I also recommend "The In-Laws".  Alan Arkin and Peter Falk.  It doesn't get any better than that.

RIP!!!

To me he will forever be Schmendrick from The Last Unicorn.

That's the beauty of Alan Arkin's career: he chose so many diverse roles!  He could be funny, serious, a bit of both, animated voice actor.  He was a treasure, and ALWAYS made a film better, even if said film was already great.

Here's to you, Alan:
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

*spoiler is a specific quote from a Best Picture Oscar winner than Arkin co-starred in, and I didn't want to censor a 'bad' word in order to honor the actor and his art

Yes; he and James Caan are awesome in that buddy cop movie!  That's a fun one

I'm going to watch GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS tonight for a fairly rare movie where Arkin is incredible but is still upstaged by almost everyone else: he actually has the mostly understated role/moments while everyone else flies off the handle!  That's also a movie where it was mostly a failure at the box office, I suspect because how the eff does a studio market that movie to a mainstream audience, but has become so renown it's more than a cult favorite: I think Mamet even rewrote his original play, where most productions nowadays include the Alec Baldwin scene that wasn't originally in the play (and kind of comically, the original Pulitzer-winning play was set in Mamet's hometown of Chicago, but the film has a bunch of references to NYC - tons of critics have said the film takes place in Chicago, likely because they know the play; I don't remember if it's ever explicitly stated in the film)

Paul Reubens died last night at the age of 70.

Not only was he Pee-wee Herman, but he was in Batman Returns, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Nightmare Before Christmas, Mystery Men, The Smurf movies, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, TRON:Uprising, Gotham, and so many more...

I first saw him on stage at Caroline's Comedy Club in NYC in 1986 - and then again as Pee-Wee in 2010 in LA. He was a brilliant comedic actor. He'll be missed.

I was an adult and I still loved watching Peewee's Playhouse. That show was gold. And Peewee's Big Adventure too. So many stars started out in his show and movies.

For anyone that remembers the first Murphy Brown, there was always a routine where she got a new 'crazy' secretary every week.  The bit was each had a different issue, and they were always fired the same day.
Well, Pee Wee came in one episode and was the perfect secretary.  Murphy, thinking he wouldn't last, gave him a ridiculous task.  It was something like counting the times the word 'the' appeared in a document.  He performed the task perfectly.  He was hysterical.  He did six (6) episodes.

May he RIP!!!

I was living in Honolulu entering my high school senior year when HBO began airing the Pee-wee Herman special.  I was like “who the hell is this wacko?”  Back then, I had a snooty attitude about television airing TV shows of unfamous people, which showed how much I knew about how celebrities get their big breaks.  I did think he was funny when I first watched his show.  I was taking tennis lessons then and my tennis instructor imitated Pee-wee by saying in his little boy’s voice “I’m the luckiest boy in the world!”
