San Francisco CC Eats
« on: August 14, 2017, 12:18:20 PM »
SF has some of the best food in the world, but let's start with the basics.

For quick variety

1) Meteon movie theatre across 4th Street.
2)Walk toward downtown on 4th st a block and take a left on Mission, walk a half a block, on right had side enter the back of the mall and go through Bloomingdales to the food court.

If you enjoy Indian i would highly recommend New Delhi at the corner of Ellis and Cyril Magnin. Just be aware everything there is made to order so it usually takes about 20 min to get your food. If you like your Indian food spicy, ask for the ghost pepper sauce. It's not on the menu but it is amazing when you add it to almost any dish.

For vegetarians, corner of Market/Larkin (just before 9th St, it curves slightly)

Flying Falafel is a vegan option, I am a notorious carnivore so for me to recommend a vegan place means it's really good :) It's a few blocks down on Market but worth the walk.

Blue Bottle coffee on Mint St.

The Grove has a location on Mission by 3rd. Great food, very casual.

For something fancier and interesting there's the restaurant inside SF MOMA.

Amber India has a fairly upscale lunch buffet which I recommend. It has a lot of unique, high end dishes that are not very common for other Indian Buffets. Be warned though, you need to be in the mood to splurge as it comes at a price...26.95. :o (Last time I went, which was during WonderCon, it was 16.95 and I even thought that was too expensive...but it was so good!)

I hope you don't mind, but I changed the thread name to spell out San Francisco so folks don't get confused between SFCC and SDCC.  They look very similar at a quick glance.  :)

Thanks.

Many moons ago I helped put up the dart boards in both locations if anyone is interested in a game, if they are still there.

And for the Carnivore/Ominvore

A quick cab ride or an easy 30 min walk to an all you can eat Brazilian meat buffet with a salad bar spread.
They come around with various meats on skewers.

Yes it's pricey, but a vacation treat.

These are both good, and fun to grab brunch or dinner with your beer. But if we're strictly speaking beer, no SF brewery (in my humble opinion) hold a candle to Cellarmaker: (A few blocks from the convention center at 1150 Howard St, Between 7th & 8th)

Also just a Block up from SFCC there is Fogo De Chao at the corner of 3rd and Howard. Not an SF exclusive but still very good.

It may not be next to the convention center but if your willing to hop on BART, grab a Pittsburgh/Bay Point train and get off at Rockridge station for, IMO, the best deep dish (heck the best pizza) in CA. Zachery's Pizza. There is always a wait in the evenings and weekends, but it is always worth it.

A couple blocks away is a really good ramen shop, Mensho Tokyo. It's a chain from Japan and this is their first overseas location. It's been "hipster-ized" for SF (i.e. using kale instead of seaweed). Their specialty is the Tori Paitan ramen, which has a base of a rich, creamy chicken broth. In addition to the regular toppings, they also have some interesting ones like duck chashu, and ground lamb.

Be warned, the wait is very long especially if you are in a group of more than one. Not recommended if you want to be back for a panel anytime soon. It can be an hour or longer. For just one person, it is much shorter, like 15-30 min.

We ended up having lunch at Oasis Grill. Pretty good Mediterranean place. Fairly quick and was easy to transport back into the con right across the street.
