BBT is much better in the early seasons. The later seasons have been coasting. Start BBT with season 1.

As for GoT, I'm glad you got ahold of it after all of the issues with your son keeping it from you! Just wait, you'll catch up in no time!

They are best when marathoned because that makes it easier to remember all the characters.

Not sure on the charts-- I haven't read them.

I was lukewarm on the show until I marathoned them, then I loved it.  I wasn't able to remember everyone.

Maps are good--LOTR taught me that.  That helped me paying attention to the credits.

There are family trees in some of the books. I know there are in the World of Ice and Fire book.

This chart is pretty nice, but it might contain some spoilers for you.

Nice stuff, especially that Founders, and it even has the controversial baby label! I know we have differing opinions on the importance of breakfast, maybe this will sway you?
i finally got around to trying this- little strong for me as i'm a real light weight but it's tasty.  the Hobbs stout is stronger & more intense-

a couple of Founders may end up being supper as Lew is Cooking.  He's got to do a few recipes for his Culinary class and seems to be running rather late.  As in supper will be 2 hr's late <sigh>

Love that chart!  ;)

Other helpful tips for becoming a GOT expert:

If you are just starting out and are watching the show on a blu-ray or DVD, use the special feature functions that come along with each episode. They have ones that will show you a list and a brief bio for all the characters in each scene, as well as other features that go into the history of Westeros (helpful for understanding what the characters are referring to at times AND narrated by the cast!). I highly recommend them  :D

Also, since you are not worried about spoilers, there is this website: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login. It is run by the people who co-authored A WORLD OF ICE AND FIRE, and who also help GRRM with his book continuity. You can find character descriptions, charts, etc. Though this site mainly draws from the book material, it is really helpful for the show, too!

There is also a show-specific wiki: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login. It is not as robust as AWOIAF, but it is definitely just as helpful!

Not sure if this should go in the Star Wars thread but here is a video link to a practical joke performed in Brazil.

Since this is pretty random, I thought I'd put this here instead of making a separate thread. Here is a little something to make you lol (or cry for poor Groot). I just never get tired of looking at this GIF!

A fascinating and recommended read, although its (necessary) length might scare away the tl;dr crowd ->

IT’S STAN LEE’S UNIVERSE He built Marvel Comics and laid the foundation for today’s blockbuster superhero movies. So why, at 93, is his legacy in question?

while not geeky, well unless you're into that sort of thing & certainly not for the person who doesn't like heights....

it gives an idea of what it takes to hang a major arena show
