The real question is, if they have 2 WonderCons in 2014, will we go to both?
And the answer is... maybe. I'd say more than 50% chance...
I could and probably would since both are "relatively" convenient for me. I live 15-20 minutes from Moscone and my entire family lives in SoCal and specifically my sister lives in Irvine, also about 15-20 minutes from Anaheim Convention Center. So to me it would come down to what was being offered in terms of programming, exclusives and other events at Wondercon Anaheim. Since I live so close to Wondercon San Francisco, I'd go even if the offering's were skimpy. There in lies my only concern, with 2 Wondercons and Comic Con, would that create less attractive cons in themselves? Would the corporations and companines be willing to commit assets to 3 cons? Even WC Anaheim was lacking some big vendors (Marvel, Gentle Giant, etc.) and hollywood presence. Somewhere along the line I did post that the only scenario I see that might work is having one of the Wondercons happen in the mid/late fall to capitalize on the "holiday season" with shopping and there's always those handful of "big" movies that come out around Thanksgiving (Hunger Games, etc.). If they could get the committments of those fall movies and maximize "holiday" shopping by offering "cool exclusives to buy for your spouse, child, etc. for the holidays" maybe it could work.
CCI, go ahead and give it a shot. Why not? 3 day, Saturday and Friday sold at this WC and obviously SDCC sold out in minutes, it appears the demand should be there. Just be sure to make it quality and not just another convention for the sake of having one because people will come.
