It helps when your at work or your doing something like binge watching on Netflix to keep your mind off of things!

I remember last year a lot of stuff popped back up closer to con, but I mostly just saw mission valley, which is where I stayed last year. I'd like to be closer to downtown this year. Not only for the shorter travel time, but better food options. I spend a small fortune on room service last year as I repeatedly forgot to eat dinner before heading back to the hotel 🤦‍♂️

Last year we stuck out but just keep looking at the hotel list from the waitlist. They had a lot pop up even downtown hotels, just constantly check. We got the Manchester last year from stalking the hotel page lol. I saw Others also like Bayfront and Hard Rock but not for all the days we needed.

The farther downtown hotels like doubletree and Hotel Republic will regularly pop up. Be very vigilant.

However, don’t use any browser extensions to check for you or at least ones that reload every minute or else they will block you. You will have to be constantly looking yourself.

Interesting, I didn’t know they would block you for something like that. Thanks for the heads up

I have a friend who got blocked last year and was only MANUALLY checking regularly - not even using any extension or other monitoring tech... :(

I heard I about that. I used a refresh add on for 3 weeks 12+ hours a day and didn't get banned. Whatever system they are using is not good.

How is the blocking done? I assume it’s by IP address? Is it permanent or temporary?

IP address blocks aren't effective.  Since most people have dynamic IP addressing at home, it's trivial to change the IP address.

Many times IP blocks are done since checking too often is interpreted as a denial of service attack.  So the server blocks that IP address for a certain period of time.

Yeah, I figured as much. I'm on VPN at home, so it's trivial to disconnect and reconnect. I can even connect to a different region so it's an entirely different block of addresses. At work, it'd be more difficult since I'd be on company network, and I'd have to be careful how often I check (and hope there aren't others in my company doing the same).

Of course, I'm already assuming I have to go through this process.  :-[

On my phone I searched under subscriptions and then forums or was it forms and subscriptions? Anyway, I put in hotel results and hit home then for him and a couple others and I got it. It was kind of hit and miss.

That sucks. I guess I’m not surprised since everything OnPeak does doesn’t make any sense.

What was your friends solution to the ban? Changing to an entirely new laptop or pc? Changing browsers?
