But my couch loves me...
sit in small chairs.
Sit?!?
Who sits at ComicCon?
I've places to go and and people to see..I've not time waste sitting.
Actual your plan sounds very good.
I've gotten away from stretching.
Good for you.
Unless you're in Hall H sitting all day and waiting for a panel or two. I count that as sitting in small, uncomfortable chairs.
but i deal better with simplicity.I hear that. I had to stop with the fitness and food trackers because I got too bogged down in the details. I just use Google Fit on my phone now which tracks my steps during the day for how much time I spend moving. I can add in any other exercise just putting in how long I did it. So, I'm just hitting an overall time goal rather than calories/steps/weight etc. Not checking weight either...just how my pants fit!
Yep, time for me to come out of hibernating! At this point, i am trying to commit to jogging every day, even if I can just get in 10-15mins. And weight lifting once a week.
My wife is really into fitbit, she loves that thing. It's really amazing all the stuff it can measure, but i deal better with simplicity.
My treadmill broke, and i got sick of using my spin bike every day. Stuck to a meal delivery plan but plateaued for over a month.
i don't like going outside (fresh air and sun make me fill sick. outdoors just doesn't feel natural).
<snip>
Is it terrible that I'm primarily up-ing my exercise routine for the purposes of rocking my cosplays instead of for the sake of improving my health? XD
I've been spending at least an hour on the treadmill everyday at maximum incline- even at a brisk walk, I burn 550+ calories in an hour! Just put on Big Bang Theory (or listen to podcasted lectures) and it's generally pretty painless!
I also recommended downloading the app 'My Fitness Pal' to track your caloric intake/output everyday if you have any weight loss goals!
So, my big plan for getting in shape was to start walking a TON now that the weather is nice enough.
Except a few days ago, I broke a toe. So walking is out. It should be healed in time for SDCC itself, but not so much in time to get a lot of walking in.
Any suggestions on what I can do to prepare that doesn't involve putting any pressure on my left foot? I'm so mad at myself. Walked right into a stepladder that I forgot to put away.

Alright, well I likely wont be getting a gym membership until after the con is over as of now. I did however get a good pair of athletic shoes just in time to break in. What are some activities aside from walking and running that one can do at home with low/minimal equipment?
Well my get in shape plan has gone terribly so far! Anyone else get derailed? Work was crazy for two months plus a traumatizing event led to me eating my feelings for a few weeks. Uggh. Baked chicken will be my best friend for the next month.
anyone else do single track mt biking?I have...it's fun, a total blast! Helmet!
My pedometer said that I was walking 35,000 steps a day, which was more than 15 miles. No joke!
Crazy! The most I had was 18,000 steps. And Friday sitting in Hall H was pathetic :D.
To folks that have lost significant weight, do you get rid of the larger cloths?
To folks that have lost significant weight, do you get rid of the larger cloths?I did have to go through a "wardrobe change", but I waited till I was sure I kept it off for a good couple months before I bought new clothes. That way I knew I wouldn't gain back into it.
If I continue as I have, I will be forced to buy new summer cloths next spring. I think I can get another winter out of my cold weather clothing. Hopefully
but still...yay?
Hmm...it could actually just something be your body's natural cycle. Body weight changes a lot during the month, especially for women. I find that 1 to 2 pound constant difference to be frustrating as well. Trying to go by inches/clothing feel rather than weight, but I want to see those pound numbers drop!!careful if we start talking woman's biology the guys will run away screaming....<wink> lol
and see what my 'benchmark' weight was
Inches are the most important thing?
Oh man.....................C'mon. I've been telling ladies that it's not important ;)
Remember muscle is heavier than fat.
random thought
I find it way more easy to limit my food intake then actually do an activity that causes me to sweat
I have been lazy since SDCC though. I signed up for Pilates, I was told no sweating would be involved :)
I manage to sweat during Pilates :). Some of the moves are really difficult!
so, just had to pass this fun story along. i've had a few pieces of clothing i needed to return & finally got around to it yesterday. I fully intended to not go cloths shopping but being a girl... lol, well needless to say i quickly found myself, out of curiosity mind you, trying on a some jeans.
i brought two sizes into the dressing room, the smaller was close <yay>
got the next size down & it fit perfectly <double yay!>
now i've got to go through my closet removing all the winter cloths that are too big <sigh>
And jeans are deceiving, because they are tight when they're new (or freshly washed) and they loosen up a bit later on. So you'll find that those new jeans get even looser!
Help, I am in need of some motivation. How do you guys stay on track and motivated?
In addition to going for the occasional run, when watching shows I've missed via On Demand (Agents of Shield, Flash, etc.) I'll do quick routines during the commercial breaks. So, commercial comes on during the Flash, I'll drop and do 10 pushups, head over to the bench to do 15 situps, then do 10 arm curls w/dumbells, until the commercial's over. Then back to watching, until the next break. It's a really good way to get some exercise in, instead of sitting for the full amount of time watching the show(s).I really like this way of exercising. With the dozen or so shows that I watch starting back up this fall if I challenge myself to do a simple circuit before the end of commercials i would be sneaking in a work out literally every single day. Add a little cardio at work and I can see myself shedding some lbs. great idea.
Hey, anything is better than nothing :)
I have problems with snacking and eating the wrong type of snacks. Also it's hard for me to eat on a regular schedule sometimes I go 6 or more hrs without eating then I binge. And I need to add more exercise to my week. Keeping track of what I eat has helped in the past and it would probably be a good place to start. Any help with how everyone stays motivated would be great.
I've found that the chewing of bacon provides great exercise...Are you the British Prime Minister? ;)
argggg
no, the workout vid
i'd die into a puddle of sweat ..... best of encouragement in sticking with it tho!
Just signed up to start Pilates 2 times a week start mid-November. Hoping to get past this plateau I'm stuck on.
Also I just bought a Star Wars onesies and it fits perfect so I have to maintain so I can sleep out in it at SDCC. I'm bringing onesies back in style.
Thanks, now I'm disappointed that there is no flap in the back :(

Anyone have experience with trend mills? I'm thinking of getting this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007O5B0LC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Also what up with these Fitbit type things..... Do they synk with the iPhone? How much does a beginner need?
I don't. But whenever I see someone on one, I wonder how they do it without falling and breaking their necks.

We had one for a while, never had an issue with falling off :). What was difficult was not getting completely bored, I found I had to have something to watch or listen to. Having a treadmill that let you program a schedule with different speeds and incline settings helped a lot too.
As for other types of machines it just depends on your needs and goals. An elliptical would also give you a bit of an upper body workout as well and is lower impact. Most gyms will give you a few days free for a trial, one option would be to try out a workout on the different machines to see how you like them. Treadmills are the loudest of the exercise machines, especially if you are running on it.
The activity trackers are all over the place, different ones track different things, some are waterproof and some aren't, so you really have to list out what kind of tracking you want to do and then pick one. They should all sync to an app on your smart phone and also to a website, but worth checking the tracker against your exact phone/OS to make certain they are compatible. I bought one of those posture trackers, but it was months before I could really use it since at the time it only had an iPhone app. I know a few people that had a clip on tracker and promptly lost it, so that's another consideration.
Yeah that would make sense; they seem to be setting him up for something nasty, like him having too much faith in the world

Today's task
Jealous! Work out one, the assembly
i ended up with the jawbone up3 due to the sleep monitoring & seemingly easy phone app
Also curious to hear what you think of the jawbone. I've had a Basis B1 for a while now, at the time I got it it was the only one that did sleep tracking. It tracks things quite well but I've already had to have it replaced 3 times (which to their credit, they've done for free.) It also has one big design flaw, when you twist your wrist it lights up the screen, which is cool unless you are sleeping and roll over, in which case you get the light right in your face.
But is eating breakfast really necessary to get your metabolism going? (And what does this mean anyway?)http://www.abc.net.au/health/talkinghealth/factbuster/stories/2013/11/25/3898283.htm
There is no clear evidence breakfast can significantly affect your metabolism, says Dr Therese O'Sullivan, senior lecturer in nutrition and dietetics at Edith Cowan University. ...... O'Sullivan says randomised controlled trials have shown the metabolisms of people on starvation or crash diets slow down to conserve energy, which means their BMR can drop by up to about 15 per cent.
As well, when people lose weight quickly during long periods without food they also lose lean muscle tissue or muscle mass, which can also contribute to a reduced metabolism. Most of your basal metabolic rate is determined by the amount of muscle you have, so the more muscle you have the faster your metabolism is.
However, O'Sullivan says, studies looking at the effects of reduced food consumption on your metabolism were conducted over a period of 10 days to a month. So while it is possible a shorter fast — such as that we do every night when we sleep — may have a similar impact, there is no solid evidence at the moment to support this, she says.
update,
I am following through with the plan of a half an hr every day & feeling the need to increase the speed/incline. only hickup occurred after the Christmas party.... felt under the weather <LOL> yeah, not a big drinker i am.
re the jawbone u3, the sleep function is wonky- or maybe it just can't figure out my wonky sleep patterns- regardless it's requiring a verification of the time slept since it thinks i get way more or less sleep then i actually do- anyone have experience with the fitbit sleep function? the iwatch?
also, been diving into the myth of the need for breakfast to 'jump start your metabolism'. I dislike breakfast- so resist the push and need to see the documentation on the rational. http://www.abc.net.au/health/talkinghealth/factbuster/stories/2013/11/25/3898283.htm
I believe the fitbit is entirely movement based. Some of the models require you to press a button when you are ready to go to sleep and then again when you wake up. My wife had one of these for a while but could never remember to press the button when she woke up. :) The Basis I use looks at blood flow, skin temp, perspiration as well and does pretty well with sleep tracking, I have problems with insomnia so that's key for me. That's probably the only thing I would recommend it for though.the up3 is motion based but doesn't require a button push. it seems to get confused especially with naps but it's got an override feature so it can be told 'sleep and/or wake'. i'm not sure if it is 'learning' because it seems to be getting better. here's what up3 says abt it's band
During REM sleep, the body usually does not move (strangely enough, it becomes paralyzed so we don’t act out our dreams) but the heart rate is fairly irregular. Deep sleep has slightly more physical movement but a very steady heart rate. Light sleep is associated with more movement plus a couple other identifiers. By coupling the signals from our new bioimpedance sensors with smart algorithms, UP3 can accurately identify sleep stages.i am wondering if being a person who doesn't move while sleeping could possibly cause a miss-read by the up3 band.
Food wise, the thing that trumps everything for me is just avoiding bad decisions. I find if I have a good workout in the morning I am much more likely to eat healthy during the day, and if I don't workout I tend to go into slob mode. (This is entirely irrational.) To have a good workout I find I need a decent breakfast beforehand.
My 2 cents on the subject. Think of your body like a car. A car needs fuel to operate and do does your body. Eating breakfast is giving fuel to your body. By eating breakfast in the morning you are telling your body it does not need to retain any fat for energy needed during the day. It will also help in losing inches.that is the conventional wisdom but i'm trying to find the documentation to back that up. trouble is how to test for it.
I gained a bit over Thanksgiving, but I lost it again! Now I'm just trying to maintain until Christmas, when I know I'll be gaining again. Hopefully I'll be able to take ti off relatively quickly in January.

I gained some also :( why does it go on so easy and it's so hard to come off? Back to watching what I eat, I have declined all the sweets in the office though so I am winning the battle with sugar.

Um, don't you have a teenager in the house? That would seem to be an excellent way to get rid of snacks.
Nuh-uh. My mom flies in next week and soon treats and ice cream will start appearing throughout the house. And sopaipillas, why does she have to make the sopaipillas?
Have not been doing well with all of the holidays parties and potlucks.
Every time I get on the scale, I've been getting SO frustrated lately. I've been working for over a year to lose weight by making MAJOR changes - working out 3-5 times per week (though that number has gone down to about 2x since my hours at work nearly doubled in September), cutting out soda almost entirely and drinking tons of water, and eating a more balanced diet by trying to incorporate more protein and veggies. And even with all of that, I've lost a whopping 3 lbs since last January. Super irritating :-[
Changes I'm hoping to implement soon include going to the gym for more frequent and varied workouts (I only have an elliptical and some individual weights at home), and meal prepping every week. And getting my license, since that will be what gets me to the gym and the grocery store!
Try sprints on the treadmill, those really helped me. I found it's harder to get my heart rate up on the elliptical.
Hi my name is alyssa & i haven't taken a walk in 9 days
i've lost my motivation..... ARGGGG
Hi my name is alyssa & i haven't taken a walk in 9 days
i've lost my motivation..... ARGGGG
idk what i need.....i'm in a funk staring at my treadmill
In order to boost my own motivation, I decided to try my own meal prep plan for one week and see how it goes. I'm going to attempt to work in little workout sessions in the mornings too, since I've been having trouble getting those in lately due to my work (and sleep) schedules.
Anyways, today is day #2, and I can't help but think to myself, "How do people actually survive on correct portions?" AKA, I think I've been over-eating my whole life, and now I'm hungry when I portion things out correctly. And I also keep thinking of every bad food that I can possibly eat, and I am craving it. On day #2. Yikes! :o
However, I *did* buy everything, cook it, and portion out my meals and snacks for the week, so after all of that work, I'm determined to get through the week and see how it goes. And once I make it to Friday, I get a "cheat" bagel, so that's something to look forward to! >:D
Good for you!! And RIGHT??? Appropriate portion size seems so small! My daughter and I are going to do a 21 day program and they sent us plastic containers to measure the food and the containers are TINY. This is going to be interesting!
The program I am on allows me to eat all the flute and veg' I want
In addition to the appropriate proportion meal today at work, I brought 2 sliced oranges 2 pears & 2 apples.
Do you have any podcasts that you love and can't wait to listen to each week? I do and that's how I get myself to the treadmill. I listen to my favorite podcasts while I am on treadmill or elliptical and I tell myself I can't listen to them unless I'm working out. It has helped a lot, especially when I see a topic they will be discussing is one that I am REALLY into.
Congrats on giving up cigarettes for January. After 25 years of tobacco use, ive been tobacco free since 2013. It's been tough, but take it one day at a time. Congrats and keep up the good work!I haven't had a cigarette since December 30th. It actually hasn't been that tough for me. I've been smoking for 16 years, but over the last 2-3 years I became more of a social smoker, so I'm not getting the cravings day-to-day. I have had cravings when I got out with friends for a beer.

Almost to my low from last year and then I just have to get past the plateau.
Sure [member=2339]NCDS[/member] , I'll take the blame! Especially if you are enjoying it :). I have to miss my class Saturday for the badge sale, boo! Sale success will make up for it though.

When you get the badge, do a vigorous victory dance for 30 minutes. That should make up for the missed class. ;D
Excellent idea! I'll start working on my victory dance music selections now. [member=2339]NCDS[/member], we can dance together, at a distance :)

Does that count as a victory dance, there was no Olivia Newton?
[member=2339]NCDS[/member] that definitely counts! And all the nervous energy from the sale, which burned TONS of calories, is your added bonus ;)
Mine is still the same as it was before I went into hiding .........running and then running some more. When I stopped letting tobacco products rule my life, I also gave up alcohol and soda. I still have my coffee.

I managed to go a week without carbs (rice, pasta, bread, cereal, pretzels, crackers, etc.), quite a tough thing for me. I treated myself with chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant last night :). I lost 2.5 lbs for the week, but we'll see what happens when I add carbs back in on a regular basis. I'm back to my carb free life now. Sigh.

i am maintaining within a pound or 2. I had hopes of loosing but then a case of gourmet popcorn showed up <looking at [member=314]Transmute Jun[/member] > & i booked a trip to downtown SF in china town. That's like going to Italy for me- *love*love*love asian food & have always wanted to fully try west cost asian food vs the east coast variety. yes, i have a walking tour of china town booked the first day which ends at a dimsum restaurant for lunch.
the only saving aspect will be that the trip is sandwiched between C2E2 and WC so hopefully my metabolic rate will be high enough ;)
I'm staying within a certain range. I haven't finished going over the information you sent me yet, I'm trying to decide if I can make room in the fridge with 7 people in the house. I think I'll try no carbs this next week to see how it goes. I did learn that I can get Miso Soup with the no brainer veggies from tokyo Joes for $3.50 and 160 calories, now I feel like a have a good alternative if I forget my lunch. It fills me up for the rest of the day.
TardisMom, low carb really worked wonders for me, but it was soooo hard! I love all of those carbs: not just the sweets, but the bread, the pasta, the fries... But the diet really did work for me. I lost about 15 pounds before my wedding going low carb, but the last month I couldn't stick with it anymore and I cheated so much that I just maintained.
If you're at your goal weight and you want it to last/be a lifetime diet, the trick is to slowly introduce carbs back into your diet until you're at a level that will keep you at the same weight. IIRC, that's about 100 grams per day for most people.
Congrats on maintaining! I remember being stuck inside for weeks on end in the winter back when we lived in Ohio. And then it would be hot and humid. Can't win :Pthx- it's about living with the food & not being on a diet which is why the 'not eating anything different' is so great- it's just portion control & learning how much you can and can't eat. for me it's a cycle & as long as the trend is down i'm ok ;)
What I like about the info I send is I'm NOT buying anything different, just limiting myself and doing proper portions of what I have on hand.
Thanks for the carb tips! I have a few pounds to lose before I get to add the carbs back in full time. And I'm finding I'm okay without them most of the time. I had a few days of my tummy wanting more each meal ("where's the stuff to fill me up?") but now it has resigned itself to the situation.
[member=3884]mlgagne[/member] and [member=2339]NCDS[/member] and everyone else, so how's everyone doing?

Happily, I am slowly making progress! I did one day this past week where I calculated how much I was eating of each food group, and it looks like I am actually overeating fats rather than carbs (and I always thought that carbs were my enemy)! I also calculated how much I have been eating based on the fact that I've been pretty consistently maintaining weight for the past year, and it looks like I have been in the ball park of 1,800 calories per day.
So, starting on Monday, my plan is to try the macro diet (40% carbs, 40% protein, and 20% fats) using the food chart for healthy ideas in each food group. Though you ARE allowed to eat pretty much anything that fits within your macros on the diet, I want to try to keep junk food to a minimum. I am aiming for a 1,600 calorie basis on my work out days, and a 1,200 calorie basis on my rest days. Hopefully, this will work well, since Saturdays & Sundays are almost always both work out days for me, and those are the days that I go out to eat most frequently. I am hoping to re-boot my body's system to get on a sleep schedule where I can start working out on weekday mornings before work as well, but I don't even know where to begin with that LOL.
On another note, after taking last weekend off with open reg Saturday and a day trip on Sunday, I finally got back to running today! It made me feel happy to be active again!
That's great! Looking forward to hearing how the macro diet treats you. Good luck!
Is everyone just drinking water while they do this? I have been drinking water and tea. Curious if there are other alternatives.
I mostly just drink water. I sometimes drink coffee or tea in the mornings/evenings, but I'm trying to cut out milk for and only use Stevia or Truvia as sweetener for my calculated macros. I also have the occasional glass of orange juice or - even more rarely - soda as a treat every now and then for being good, haha. But I've tried to stick to water for a little over a year now, and I've found that I feel much better drinking it than anything with too much sugar!
Giving up my sugar Chai Latte has been hard though :(if i must have a chai, starbucks makes a Oprah chai latta with skim milk that's not too sweet- in my system it's worth 3 points out of my daily allotment of 30. Not a daily thing but if i'm driving all day, it's a nice little treat

I like to save my SDCC podcasts and listen to them when I run or walk. I get so excited hearing all the news, that it doesn't feel like exercise.Exactly. I've suggested this a couple times! It really helps!

I'm proud to say that after months of TALKING about it, I finally got up early to run before work this morning! I've felt SO much more energized throughout the day - and I get more calories/macros for it being a "work out" day (which was probably my motivation to get up, haha).
Now, if only I can keep this up on a regular basis... ;)

I cheated Thursday because I was held up late at work and barely had time to eat, and fast food was so easy. To compensate, today I pulled out my Spanx.
Does that count? ;)
I know I haven't been playing along on thread so much, but I've been low carb since the beginning of the year and it's worked nicely. Last night I put on a pair of jeans that I bought 4 years ago while "wishful thinking" as they were too small but I lived them. Well, for the first time in 4 years, they fit!
We have really figured out low-carb and my wife has made it a kind of hobby looking up and making recipes. It takes work, but she found a great dough you make out of almond flour, mozzarella and egg. We makenpizza with it and calzones. So good. I'm lucky she's into cooking because I'm hopeless and have no patience for it.
There's always next week. And little pizza never hurt anyone!Look up "fat head dough" online. We make pizza all the time with it. There is also a marinara called "Rao's" that is 4 carbs per 1/4 cup and we use that for the sauce.
Spanx are the BEST.THING.EVER.
Congrats on the jeans! Low carb seems to be working for me as well, but I'm going to need a pizza one day really soon.
How's everyone doing??? :D
I don't want to talk about it!!!!!!!
I'm doing great on the exercise but not the dietary portion. We all know eating right is 80% of the secret to success.
I really like my new macro diet! I've been able to stick to it all week, and though I've been a little over on carbs or fats on some days (but never protein - I guess I know what I need to focus on), I haven't been over on calories any day this week. AND I exercised 6 out of 7 days! I guess I've been motivated by the whole "you get more calories on work out days" thing - and, of course, by everyone on here!
Now, the real test will come in when I finally weigh myself to see if I'm losing any weight this way ;)
I don't want to talk about it!!!!!!!
I'm doing great on the exercise but not the dietary portion. We all know eating right is 80% of the secret to success.
I'm the opposite. I eat pretty healthily (I just made a salad with baby spring mix, sunflower seeds, almonds, cranberries, and uncooked tofu with sesame dressing--yum!). I need to get off my derriere and exercise more. >__<

Ok so after this weekend i am going to start using my stationary bike and not just thinking about to. You guys are my witnesses
I did 14.25 miles on the treadmill/elliptical and 3 Pilates classes. I'm willing to trade 4 miles and one class for two days of your healthy eating :)
Hope everything goes well at the weigh-in, Mlgagne! *crosses fingers*
Glad the new diet is working for you! Keep us posted :)

I don't have access to a treadmill, but I have an elliptical that I used this morning, and I walked a mile on my break at work today (the weather was beautiful today)! And I plan on doing the same tomorrow. Does that count? ;DChallenge just started guess you'll have to do all those things again tomorrow morning

I actually don't use twitter at all, ha ha. We'll see how this goes...
I don't need twitter to find you >:D
Ha ha, of course not. You can always find me here... ;p
This is the simple no-gym exercise set that I like to do from the comfort of my own bedroom, ha ha.
30 seconds of jumping jacks.
10 to 15 reps of push-ups.*
20 to 30 seconds of planking.
30 seconds of wall squats.
10 to 15 reps of bicep curls with 10 lb weights.
10 to 15 reps of tricep dips (either using the edge of a chair or a bench).
30 seconds of running in place.
Repeat everything three times.
30 seconds of jumping jacks actually is good for cardio. It sounds like a short period of time, but when you're actually doing it for 30 seconds, you'll feel it.
*For the push ups, I do three different variations: the regular/standard push up where your arms are directly underneath you (basically at the same width of your shoulders), a wide push-up where your arms are placed further away from each other than a standard push-up, and a "diamond push-up" where you bring the thumbs and index fingers of both hands together. I usually do about 20 reps of each variation, instead of the 10 to 15.
^__^; There you go. My sort-of-lazy person's workout routine. I'm thinking about adding some jump rope into it for a little bit more cardio.
For the more advanced, you can double the reps for everything (but still do it three times).
Challenge just started guess you'll have to do all those things again tomorrow morning

Challenge accepted (both the run and the walk will be my "treadmill substitute") :D
Edit: Annnnd, it looks like I *may* have gotten sunburn on my walk today. I'll have to bring sunscreen tomorrow haha!
I think today will be the last day I wear my largest pair of slacks. I have been pulling them up all morning. Time to put them in a drawer and let them gather dust.
Thanks [member=842]TardisMom[/member]
[member=3884]mlgagne[/member] sounds like my challenged worked for you :) Shall this weeks challenge be side planks, 3 sets of 10-30 seconds depending on everyone's strength by Friday. [member=1060]DRWHO_42[/member] your wicked strong so 30 seconds for you!
Glad you guys are going in the right direction!
I'm managing to stay on track, but I'm worried, because I am attending 3 cons over the next 4 weekends, and I know I'll be tempted to eat more often. Hoping I emerge after ECCC with not too much gain!
With 3 cons, at least you'll be doing a TON of walking, so perhaps you will come away free of any weight gain!
Yeah, I'd like to think so, but last year after ECCC and WC on 2 consecutive weekends, I gained 15 pounds! I couldn't believe it! I think a lot of it was because I was eating more often rather than my usual intermittent fasting. So I'm going to try and reduce the number of times a day I eat. Hopefully it will work out! *fingers crossed*

Honestly, for me salt isn't a big deal, because any water retention goes away after 2-3 days of being back to my 'normal' eating.
You're lucky! If I even have tortilla chips and salsa I'm bloated the next day. But it can be worth it!
Got two teeth drilled down for crowns on Tuesday. I'm finding the temporary crowns and ongoing tenderness to be a great way to limit eating :'(

Oh definitely it's worth it! ;) You can't have a diet plan without 'fun' food in it. You'll never stick to it if you're always longing for something you 'can't have'.

Hangs head in shame.....This week is already starting our tough. We had an audit party yesterday which involved free drinks, queso, guac, empanada's and then Wonder Con in 3 days which will break up my routine and include lots of high calorie foods/beers. I'm going to be realistic and instead of loss this week I am going to aim at maintaining
No shame in maintaining, or even just taking a week off. Life happens!
Glad you're doing well, Mlgagne! NCDS, I am also in the 'maintaining' camp. I am pleased to report that I was able to stick to one meal a day over the weekend, when I went to Silicon Valley Comic Con. Yes, I ate like a pig, but I was able to maintain the intermittent fasting, which is the most important part of my dietary routine. Yay me!
No shame in maintaining, or even just taking a week off. Life happens!I find that at SDCC I am walking so much and carrying a heavy bag the whole time that it makes up for not working out. I never have time to sit and pig out. Even when I snack it is on the go.

Damn salty foods , they always add a few pounds (retaining water) for a few days until the effects wear off
Not as bad as I thought, it has been hard to get back into it this week and my neck still hurts from whatever I did to it. Next week I will be back 100% this week was 45% :( However 45% is better than nothing so at lest I'm going.
i have the flu currently, so doing nothing but also eating nothing. We'll see how that works out when I feel like standing up.

Does anyone have recommendations for a source of vegan recipes? Books, websites, secret family recipes, etc. Trying to change my eating habits a bit, but need to find things that don't taste like sadness and despair :(

*I don't have precise amounts or times. I just go with the flow :)
- orange lentils (the ones that turn yellow when you cook them)
- thinly sliced onion
- thinly sliced ginger
- finely chopped garlic
- chopped thai chili
- chili flakes
- bay leaves
- salt
- pepper
- lal march (you can use cayenne)
- gharam masala (you can make your own or buy)
- soy sauce
- juice from lemon or lemon juice
1) Saute onions with oil and chili flakes. (I also use butter, but since your vegan you can't :D )
2) Add everything except the soy sauce and lemon and mix well, coating each lentil with oil.
3) Add water and bay leaves and boil. (2-3 times as much water as lentils.)
4) Turn to low once it reaches boiling state. (You can roll boil if you want.)
5) Check on the water absorption - add or don't add as required/wanted.
6) Use a masher to smooth it out.
7) Add soy sauce and lemon to taste. (Also salt and pepper.)
8 Optional: fry sliced onions, sliced garlic, and cumin seeds and throw it on top.
Eat with rice, as soup, with bread, etc.

How many of you are on My Fitness Pal? With the illness I haven't been able to leave the house, but I started calorie tracking again yesterday. Hoping to go for a walk tomorrow! (still achy and tired) Will probably still track hikes on Map My Hike, but MFP seems better for food tracking. I'm on there as NikkiTurret (my name is not Julia, ha ha).
I'm on it. I'm better at tracking some weeks than I am others. Are you offering to keep me honest?
Totally! My goal is to track every day until the con. I need peer pressure though because my follow-through has been spotty :D

Anyone else use Fitbit? If so, friend me!Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
I was actually motivated enough to start at the end of February! Been working out 5-6 days week (weights/HIIT/cardio) and eating clean and using Isagenix.Isagenix is what I used to lose my boatload of weight...tough but great if you can keep it up!
Honestly though, I have used SDCC as an excuse this year to get back into my good habits. I was really in shape through last fall but feel off the wagon due to family and work stress. My s**t spiral was absolutely fantastic though! At least I had fun doing it.
Gotta get in stellar shape for my cosplays!
i need to get back on my diet..... /sigh it's the late night snacking that is absolutely driving me crazy. i'm back on the treadmill everyday i'm not working & eat right but at 8pm- i loose all control.I feel your pain Alyssa.... I lost 40lbs by severely limiting my carbs, but Christmas thru March has just been killing me.... :-[
It's the cons and the irregular schedule that have made it difficult for me. Now that I'm home, I am better able to stick to my plan. I gained a couple of pounds over ECCC (and got Con Crud to boot) but I'm hoping to get rid of all of it by the end of e month. Fortunately, the Con Crud is nearly out the door. ;DVery sorry to hear about the concrud.
i am soooo glad you & ncds didn't get my concrud at wondercon!! & super glad it's almost over for you
Danny Cahill stood, slightly dazed, in a blizzard of confetti as the audience screamed and his family ran on stage. He had won Season 8 of NBC’s reality television show “The Biggest Loser,” shedding more weight than anyone ever had on the program - an astonishing 239 pounds in seven months.
When he got on the scale for all to see that evening, Dec. 8, 2009, he weighed just 191 pounds, down from 430. Dressed in a T-shirt and knee-length shorts, he was lean, athletic and as handsome as a model.
“I’ve got my life back,” he declared. “I mean, I feel like a million bucks.”
Mr. Cahill left the show’s stage in Hollywood and flew directly to New York to start a triumphal tour of the talk shows, chatting with Jay Leno, Regis Philbin and Joy Behar. As he heard from fans all over the world, his elation knew no bounds.
But in the years since, more than 100 pounds have crept back onto his 5-foot-11 frame despite his best efforts. In fact, most of that season’s 16 contestants have regained much if not all the weight they lost so arduously. Some are even heavier now.
Yet their experiences, while a bitter personal disappointment, have been a gift to science. A study of Season 8’s contestants has yielded surprising new discoveries about the physiology of obesity that help explain why so many people struggle unsuccessfully to keep off the weight they lose.
Kevin Hall, a scientist at a federal research center who admits to a weakness for reality TV, had the idea to follow the “Biggest Loser” contestants for six years after that victorious night. The project was the first to measure what happened to people over as long as six years after they had lost large amounts of weight with intensive dieting and exercise.

He was hilarious and extremely helpful on the show yesterday. Loved all the guests and am finally motivated to get off my butt and start working out!
I have all this free time at the moment since I am not currently working and yet I still don't have the motivation to workout at all. I say everyday that I need to get back at it, even back when I was working, but only attended the gym a few times. I watched some of the Englishmen talk this past weekend talking getting SDCCFit and with having two trips coming in the next few months, I think it's time to really put forth an effort. I have the means, just need to truly find the motivation. I hope to find it, not just for SDCC but for life in general.Start off maybe just doing 10 pushups and 10 situps when you wake-up every morning or before you go to sleep. From there go to 20, 30, etc. Before long you may find the motivation that thus far has been lacking.

Also, since it's my first time posting in this thread...a little about me and getting into shape. I have quarterly blood tests to worry about and so exercise has indeed become an important part of my life since Thanksgiving 2012. I had extremely high glucose levels and since then have had to work really hard at carb counting and control and exercising. Since I don't have the time nor energy to do it daily, I opted to make the times I can workout more on the high impact side. More often than not, it's been climbing hills or stairs nonstop for at least 20 minutes.
I fared horribly at first and couldn't even last 10 minutes. Also the blood sugar levels weren't going down as much and as quickly as I would like. Anyhow, flash forward to 2016 and I'm much better health wise now and can do a bit over 50 floors in 20 minutes.
Personal Health Update:
It's been three weeks since my Heart Valve surgery and I can drive my car now :D , been working from home part time.
My surgeon used a Da Vinci robot at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDgmcZnaxwU
However, when I was sticking to it, I lost 3 lbs in a matter of 2 weeks...and I was mostly just walking or running (or both) 5-6 days per week, and I was making sure that I was eating the correct amount of calories/macros daily.
This!! Tracking food intake is the key for me.
Personal Health Update:. Glad everything went well. If u need any assistance at SDCC just ask. The forum sticks together.

Overall though I eat a lot better than I use to and I found once I understood how bad some things were I lost my taste for them. Others are just too good so moderation is the key :)
Look at Indian recipes. (I tried to go vegan back in '04. After six-weeks I settled on vegetarianism. That, ironically, ended in the summer when I was in India lol.) Indian recipes involving lentils and veggies are vegan. Here is one for a really tasty quick daal (lentils):
*I don't have precise amounts or times. I just go with the flow :)
- orange lentils (the ones that turn yellow when you cook them)
- thinly sliced onion
- thinly sliced ginger
- finely chopped garlic
- chopped thai chili
- chili flakes
- bay leaves
- salt
- pepper
- lal march (you can use cayenne)
- gharam masala (you can make your own or buy)
- soy sauce
- juice from lemon or lemon juice
1) Saute onions with oil and chili flakes. (I also use butter, but since your vegan you can't :D )
2) Add everything except the soy sauce and lemon and mix well, coating each lentil with oil.
3) Add water and bay leaves and boil. (2-3 times as much water as lentils.)

Agree completely! I can no longer put breaded, fried food in my mouth without a lot of thought (and calculation of what I will give up for it). And I have always LOVED fried food. Fried dill pickles are about the only thing to make the cut nowadays, and I come across them rarely.
Chips and salsa in moderation, though. Can't give them up :)
I can definitely relate to this. It's been a good 3 years since I've had a baked potato or In-n-out's vanilla shake or Disneyland's Dole Pineapple Whip, just to name a few "bad" carb or high sugar foods I've had to give up.
I wonder if any of you have the difficulties I have had at social gatherings where huge amounts of food are being served? On one hand, you have your personal limits on how much to eat, what to eat, on the other hand, there can be a tendency for people to tell you "oh what's the harm in just one piece?" You don't really want to dampen everyone's fun and you don't really want to get into why you have your eating limits...Anyhow, I find that I still don't handle those situations very well.

Another thing you can do is to have a drink in your hands. It makes your hands looks busy and 'explains' why you don't have a plate of food in them.
Yes, I often keep a drink in my hand to keep people from bugging me to drink. I'm a lightweight.
The 'drink' doesn't have to be alcoholic. It can be water or free or diet soda.
You guys are making me feel like I'm a rude person. When they go into peer pressure mode I tell them I have goals and they are important to me. They usually get really quiet at that point, if they don't I point out how their lack of respect for my goals is insult (no one takes it past that point). I must admit though I really get irritated with people who can't take no for an answer. Especially when I have said it 3 times.
For the most part though people around me tend to respect my personal goals and a lot offer suggestions.
Finally got around to trying this earlier this week and was great, thanks to [member=3906]dcuodust[/member] !Glad you enjoyed :)
Seems the key thing about eating vegan more often is to remember to check your teeth. Had an hour long meeting with a new boss today, realized afterwards I had 2 big black bean chunks in my teeth the whole time :-[

You're NOT rude.
Now off to the gym, got weighed at the doctors yesterday and it wasn't as good as I hoped. My scale is so much nicer to me.
I don't suffer the food/drink pushers.
I regularly have to make weight for jiu jitsu competitions, and about 3 weeks prior my diet and calorie intake gets super strict; I say "No, I'm good" and smile the first time. I say "No, I am good" without smiling the second time. The third time I ask them point blank "Why are you trying to f**k up my training regimen?" That usually does it.
I was put on a medication about a year and a half ago that caused me to start gaining weight fairly rapidly (something that I will say isn't super normal. I've always tended to be fairly consistent in terms of weight.) I was still in undergrad and I tend to only wear high-waisted skirts with tights etc. most days, so I didn't really notice the weight gain until shirts started not to fit properly at which point I discovered I'd shot up about 15 lbs. Mentioned it to my mum that I was gaining some weight (she's an NP) and when she asked how much she immediately became a bit concerned and put the dots together that it had started right around when I went on the new med. I've always been thin but that much weight gain (roughly 20lb at the end) in just 2-3 months wreaked havoc @.@ Needless to say, I was taken off quite quickly and while a chunk of the weight came back off immediately, the rest has lingered.
I had something VERY similar happen to me in undergrad, except the weight gain was over the course of about a year to a year and a half. I went from about 95 lbs at 20 years old (which had been pretty standard for me my whole life) to 145 lbs at 21-22. I was also starting to form a sleeping disorder - all from the medication! It took us SO long to figure it out and, once we did, I changed medications immediately and dropped like 20 lbs really quickly. I was able to get down a few more from a better diet and exercise regimen, but I'm still working on the rest (and, for reference, I'll be 25 in a few weeks) :(
I'm glad you discovered the issue so much more quickly than I did, though! Once you find the best diet/exercise routine for your body, you should be able to get the extra weight off with consistency
Ironically, the medication I was on was to aid me with my sleep. I've had chronic and severe insomnia about as long as I remember and I don't do well on sleeping pills and it's not recommended I take them anymore. So we were looking into options like mild antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds to help instead. Quite honestly, I probably had some of the best and most consistent sleep while I was on it and if it had only been 5-10lb I would have just dealt with it. However, there was no sign of the weight-loss slowing down/stabilizing. I wasn't eating anymore than usual either and was eating quite healthy at the time too.
The reason I brought it up with my mum was I needed to go out and buy a couple new pairs of jeans before I went out of state on a quick trip to see family and she was going to return a pair for me since I was flying out the next day and couldn't do it myself easily. My mum immediately went in medical mode like "How much have you gained? Do you have a rough idea when it started? You do realize that September was right when you started on a new medicine right? Let me go pull up my drug handbook app and see if weight gain is a common side-effect. I'm not familiar with this one myself."
I'm hoping this helps kick me a bit into a healthier routine (and maybe not ordering food out constantly while at work >.>)

I just posted my thoughts on How To Get Convention Fit (http://www.thejerd.com/how-to-get-convention-fit/4956/ (http://www.thejerd.com/how-to-get-convention-fit/4956/)) over on my site.

I got a Fitbit! Anyone want to be my friend? And if so, please tell me how we do that ;)Looking at the Fitbit dashboard, you can send an email from the dashboard to invite friends. PM me and I will get you my email address. [member=283]Devorah[/member] and I are friends on Fitbit (and she stomps my backside every week! I need to step up-literally!)

Congrats on passing your long overdue driving test.
To celebrate I'm off to the gym to get fit :)
More importantly, in the zombie apocalypse she is most likely to survive, because she can outrun all of us!
Oh my, I hadn't even thought of that! Maybe I can learn to drive a van now so I have room for everyone and we can all get away from the zombies ;)
Yes, those almonds do add up in a really sneaky way ;)
Unfortunately, skipping meals doesn't really work for losing weight or in my case lowering blood sugars. Not being a medical professional, the best one to put it is that I guess your body always tries to stay at an equilibrium state so if you don't eat, it responds by breaking down food extremely slowly (I think???? Once again, not a medical professional).

Also, I'm glad I'm reading this thread because just now I realized that I forgot to log in what I ate for lunch and dinner.

sorry for this question as I know I could google it myself- does anyone know if I could join the group? I use a jawbone
Just actually read up on this manual entries don't count so unless your jawbone syncs steps with the fit bit app you are out. My Microsoft band doesn't sync so my steps don't count :(Let me look into what we can do-we shouldn't let different devices hold us back!
The fitbit app did populate itself with data from my apple health so I imagine it might do the same with Jawbone?
For Fitbit I'm: //www.fitbit.com/user/4JMBDX
Woohoo! I did 20K steps yesterday! The challenges can be really motivating. That's Con level stepping. And-I am not as exhausted as I thought I would be.
I did find a neat app today called FitRPG. It claims to gamify your Fitbit experience. You can fight friends, go on quests, etc. using the steps, distance and sleep tracked. I will be trying it out in the next few weeks. It only syncs with Fitbit now, but they have plans to include other trackers in the future. They have a kickstarter too. I may check that out if I like where they are going with the app.

Can I ask how you get that many steps I get around 10K a day sometimes 13K and that is with 40 mins kicking my but on the treadmill.
Walk all day, don't sit unless you have to. I walk around my living room while I watch TV at night.
Just so all my Fitbit friends don't think I just sit around all day...This is why I love my Microsoft band I can track all my strength workouts.
Each week I go to Pilates twice (no Fitbit steps to speak of), do 3 or 4 hour long Muscle classes, and do 2 hour long Piyo classes (a really good workout!). My husband and I hike in the Arizona heat on Sundays and I do shorter walks other days. This morning a did a 75 minute walk (4.6 miles) and got about 7000 steps.

Flagstaff is gorgeous and about 30 degrees cooler than we are here in Phoenix. Half of Phoenix goes there in July and August, while the other half is in San Diego :)
I can and do track my classes/activities, and sometimes sleep, food, etc. on the Fitbit. But only the steps reading shows up for Fitbit Friends, the rest just to me. I don't mind being the slacker of the group.
Re: pouring out snacks to a container, Ikea's kids' plastic ware is the BEST, and perfectly sized for snacks and such. And I love the bright colors! My daughter also created art by sleepily putting a frozen waffle on an Ikea kids plate and putting it in the toaster oven. The part with the waffle stayed as is, while the rest melted in long streams between the grates. It was beauteous.
[member=364]Angology[/member], thanks for the tip about the fitRPG. While the app doesn't seem to actually load or work, I looked into and downloaded 3 similar apps - Wokamon, Fit Hero and Walkr. I'll report back on which one I like best.Yes-I am seeing the same issue with FitRPG. I hope they get it worked out. It looks like fun. I will also check out the ones you mention
Out of curiosity, I looked over my step counts for last year's SDCC and they ranged from 16K to 20K per day with Sunday being the 20K day. Your mileage will vary, quite literally, and I was actually expecting a higher range but I suppose if you're in line for Hall H or B20 or whatever else, you're not walking very much for a huge time frame.
Wow, 60 pounds? That's incredible! :o. Congratulations to you and all of your hard work!Thank you and I'm no longer diabetic. Our company has weight loss goal prizes at 20pct loss you get a ninja blender, 40pct is a Fitbit, 60pct is a Fitbit scale and 80pct loss is wireless headphones. I've got first three and so close to the headphones. My wife has dropped over 40 lbs.
I started eating right and going to gym a lot more and I have lost 60 lbs, I'm so ready for SDCC this year.

That's amazing! Congratulations, [member=405]vegasndn[/member], on your hard work and efforts! (Congratulations to your wife as well.) Love hearing great success stories about becoming healthier and fit.Thank you. Getting healthy for SDCC is a can do.
I'm in full swing for SDCCFit I have been walking a mile or more everyday and trying to work out other parts of my body but not always sure I'm doing the exercise correctly. My biggest problem is eating. I'm small by genetics only weigh 100 to 101 pounds so the last thing I want to do is lose weight. When it comes to eating I just do not have the motivation to stop eating yummy foods and my favorite foods. Also I'm not always sure what's healthy and what's not and even where to begin! It's very overwhelming. So if anyone can give me some advice about eating healthy and where to begin that be awesome!
I got in 21K steps today and it's good enough to pass Devorah temporarily but not Angology. Keep up the great work both of you!!!Thanks for the advice! I will definitely cut back on the red meat to begin with. Also I will try to cut back on foods that have lots of toppings. I still feel like I get tired pretty easily when working out. Granted I have only been doing it for about 3 weeks and took a break during memorial weekend. How long does it usually take to build up stamina?
Welcome to the site Callie! Walking a mile or more is definitely a great start so definitely keep that up. As for eating, it sounds like you have a tremendous advantage over many of us in that it's not necessarily health troubles that are driving you to eat healthier. That's really awesome that you want to even though you don't really need to.
Speaking from experience, cholesterol can be a problem even when you're thin so maybe one thing you can try is limiting how much red meat you consume? You definitely don't need to severely cut down or eliminate it but whenever possible, try to choose chicken or fish over beef.
Another area you can work on is with foods that have a lot of toppings or additives like baked potatoes, maybe don't go for the works and all the trimmings that go with it as those can be a sneaky source of excess calories, fat and cholesterol. A few toppings is fine but you don't necessarily need with your baked potato sour cream and cheese and bacon and whatever else. Hope some of this helps! Any specific questions or concerns, feel free to ask away.

Thanks everyone! I think I'm more slow and steady as well so I will just keep with what I am doing. The food part is what's going to be hard for me but just like with the exercises I'm going to take that little by little as well.Sounds like your doing good. If you a gym member take personal training class and tell instructor what you're goals are and help with proper exercise techniques.

Back to my macro diet and exercise plan today! AND, my FitBit is now set up! Feel free to add me:Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
So I think I am going to go full on nerd and wear two step trackers. I looked at the fancy Fitbits and they just don't do want I want them to do :(
I want to do the challenges though, so starting tomorrow I'm going to wear both my old fit bit and my Microsoft band until SDCC. If I put my fitbit on my ankle it will look like I'm on house arrest >:D
Alyssa's plate arrangement is definitely the way to go! It's how my diabetic educator and 2 doctors require me to eat though sometimes I go even lighter on the starches.
I created a #SDCCFit Fitbit group here: https://www.fitbit.com/group/22ZKPJ (https://www.fitbit.com/group/22ZKPJ).wish I had a Fitbit are they worth it? What do they do exactly?
Should make it easier for us to find each other and set up challenges.
:)

Looks like the Fitbit Charge would be great for my purposes as it tracks floors climbed but....this soon before SDCC, I'm not sure if I should splurge on unplanned expenses as I'm sure you all can understand. Unless, of course they have SDCC exclusive Fitbits? Maybe one that looks like Marty McFly's watch ;)thank you so much! I think I do a little bit of interval training as is. I have to take little tiny breaks maybe 5 min at most in between exercises sometimes. If I do one after another I get winded as well. But I will definitely look into this interval training! Lately I have mostly been walking instead of running. I walk 2 miles up 2 different hills. I need to start throwing some running in there as well. I know cardio is good for you just afraid to do too much with how tiny I am already.
Now for Callie's question about stamina, I'm sure that a pro trainer would tell me that I've only gone about it at 60% efficiency but this is what worked for me when I started off on my fitness journey a few years back. I was in terrible shape and very, very ill so even carrying things from the car trunk into the house would cause me to be winded. I figured climbing the hills near my place would help except that I was in such poor condition that I had no choice but to use what they call interval training. Basically, on the first climb up the hill, I'd go as quickly as I can, come back down and then repeat again but much slower. When I'd feel out of gas, I would go downhill and proceed to walk along the flatter parts of the block. I'd do this for 20 minutes and pretty much the last 17 minutes of it would be at a really slow pace, which is okay. I guess eventually my conditioning got a bit better where I could attempt a few more climbs up the hill before reaching completely out of breath and energy status. Mind you, I only did this one or two times per week since it's so draining. The other days I would just walk for 20 or fewer minutes.
I believe you mentioned that you do a combo of running and walking so I'm sure if you googled "interval training", you'd probably find helpful tips from others that are more knowledgeable.

[member=3884]mlgagne[/member] I think the June Fitbit challenge is between us since we both just started this week and are way behind the rest :(
Watch out guys because July is on!
Hahaha, agreed! I was struggling to even get to 9,000 steps yesterday - but, to be fair to myself, I have an office job during the week that requires me to stay at my desk for most of the day - AND a 1-hour commute both ways. But I took my 30-minute walk and tried a lot to walk back and forth for different things! Eventually, I will teach myself to get to 10,000...and hopefully more!
Side note: I'm actually pretty happy this week because even though I just started my macro routine again, I somehow managed to keep the 3 lbs off after 2 months! Apparently, it taught me how to manage my food correctly throughout the day :)
I'm at a desk job too but thanks to budget cuts and management believing I can be at many places at once :-\, my duties got merged with another position so lots of getting up for me. When I realized that I was only getting 3-4K steps per work day, I started taking the stairs and walking the entire length of a floor before going up or down. Basically taking as long a route as possible :D
[member=3884]mlgagne[/member], if you can do 30 minutes of walking regularly, I would concentrate on making that more regular and not be too concerned over the number of steps you get. When I was starting out on the fitness journey, my doctor recommended just 20 minutes and I'm pretty sure I didn't come close to 10,000 steps.

Agreed, I have to do sprints on the treadmill to get my 10,000. I don't always make it other days where I focus on strength training or use the elliptical.
I'm winning , probably the last time you see me in first place :D

To help celebrate the positive momentum of the #SDCCfit movement, I thought it would be awesome to throw out a 4 Day / 12 Mile Walk Challenge starting on June 21, 2016 (which is a month before SDCC). You can walk outside?around the house?on a treadmill?whatever you need to get those miles in!
Today starts the #SDCCfit 4 day/12 mile challenge. Tweet your progress with #SDCCfitwalk. Anyone else participating?

[member=364]Angology[/member] is there a way to translate our Fitbit weekly challenge to the 4 day challenge? I'm not on Twitter so I can't post updates but maybe someone in the challenge could?I think you would have to make a new challenge. I wasn't allowed to join the workweek challenge because it was full.
You couldn't join? I didn't realize there is a number limit. I'll leave the challenge so you can join, I'm just there so you all can beat me :)That's so sweet-you don't have to. Devorah made another one, and I joined that one. That will teach me to join right when I get the invite. We were traveling back from Houston, so I didn't get to it right away.

Isn't that the weekend warrior? I missed the workweek one also. I was too slow :)No, the Workweek Hustle. Devorah made another, so I joined that one.
Yes, but Devorah made another, so I joined that one.
[member=842]TardisMom[/member], you can re-join, I joined the second challenge.
Can I get an invite to the second one or is it full? I mean you'll still beat me but I can try :)
I just sent you an invite. It's not a second #SDCCfit one, it's another one I had going.

I'm really impressed with the number of steps many of my Fitbit friends are getting! Great job!
And brand4d2, your tests should show great improvement!
Thanks! I sure hope so as I would hate to pull a Golden State and put in so much work but fall short of my goals. If I improve even by .1% (aiming for .7%. glucose management is extremely difficult), I'll have all of you to thank for the part you've played in it.
The only time I get 30K steps is at Disneyland so 8 days of that for TJ is more than adequate prep for SDCC.
I'm walking at least a mile every day. I'm going to need to replace my walking shoes before the con.
Good for you! Though...make sure you buy your shoes soon so you have enough time to break them in before SDCC.
finish strong everyone- "don't slack off now" is what i'm telling myself
I find out on Tuesday where I ranked in our weight loss at work. Crossing fingers I get 1st place and $1600!!
Oooh, good luck!
Thanks! Even if I don't win, I won another way by losing 25 pounds in 2 months!! Still going!

My Fitbit is giving me fits today! I've already done an online chat with the support group which seemed to fix the problem, but now I'm having trouble again. First it was vibrating while I *tried* to charge it (but it wasn't charging), then we got it working, ...... and now it is vibrating again and back I go to Support. Aaarrrggghhh!Mine stopped notifying me when I hit my goal, but the only offered solution on the website is to restart it. It's only mildly annoying, and not a deal breaker. I hope you get it fixed. My mother-in-law's quit on her (I got it for her for Christmas), and they were nice enough to send her a new one, but she sure does miss it while she is waiting for the new one.
I'm not getting in as many steps lately as in previous weeks so I downloaded the Pokemon Go app which will entail a lot of walking around. Hurray for the extra steps per day!Well, for you, not as many is still a lot. You are a step superstar from what I have seen! What a great idea for getting more steps.

i'm toying with the idea of doing a group walk/run starting at 11 am Tuesday. We could start at the Gaslamp hilton & just go for a half hr or so. anyone interested?
I'm a big maybe. Would you consider going earlier, like first thing in the morning? I'm hitting Great Maple for brunch but I'd do this before...i'm working till 10am & am doing lunch at 1;30.
I might indeed be available for a brisk walk after pv nite breakfast.
We don't get there until later in the day on Tuesday. I'm planning to walk after the PN breakfast, though, if anyone would like to come.
I came in 4th in over 100 people at work!! That extra money will come in handy for neato things at the con!! Now if I can just sneak away from the booth for a few minutes to shop......

Started having terrible lower back pain tonight.. I must have stretched something. Any quick remedies to be back in tip top shape by the con? I can't really bend or get up without a decent amount of pain :S

It's called carbo loading! :D
Practicing for multi-tasking at SDCC (walking and eating on the way to a panel).
Pringles ... nomnomnomnomnomnomnomthe perfect con chip
So my final results are in and I only gained one pound during the college tour week and SDCC. I'm pretty proud of myself for keeping it close. Of course, I'm heading off to GenCon next week and we'll see how that goes...
I did the same. High five to us!
on a personal note- i may have been mistaken and in reality did end up loosing a few pounds ;)
So I ended up not being able to get much exercise and prep in leading up to this year's con like I had planned. Unfortunately the few months leading up to it I went into one of my severe insomnia periods and never had the energy for anything (I was basically falling asleep right after I finished work and classes.)
This year, as I'm starting so much earlier I have more hope. I'm pretty sure my mum gets fitbits and the like at work at a significant discount so I might poke her to see about getting one, though I know with how my work is my steps will be abysmal at first. (Desk job where I spend the majority of the day drafting legal documents and occasionally walking to the main printer hub.)
Best. Mistake. Ever.it's odd but the weight seems to be coming off rapidly now- not unhappy with this but it's odd-
Now that I've had my Fitbit tracker for a week, it does seem that Fitbit's stats are extremely liberal or else Apple Health/ios's counts are too conservative.
Whichever the case may be, it means all my counts for every challenge we've done in the past two months have been too low ;)
What model Fitbit dof you have? I have the Charge HR and I have the opposite problem. It does not count all of my steps.
Hi, my name is alyssa and i haven't been on my treadmill in 3 weeks
/sigh/ I'm going to die during ST:NYC and NYCC
Also, looking at our Fitbit challenges, you aren't the only one to have fallen off pace post SDCC. Come on everyone, keep it going! Don't put yourself into a hole where you have to do double the work just to get back to where you were.I took my step goal back to 10K/day the week or so after (I had to get caught up at work, and could only leave my desk for short amounts of time), but am back to 12K/day and ready to kick it back up to 13K. This is unusual for me-usually I fall off the deep end, but didn't want to be struggling at Dragon Con.

It's actually the Fitbit challenges that have helped. Accountability is a great motivator for me.
Exactly, there's still time Alyssa! I find a lap or two around the block to be an adequate substitute for when you can't do your normal fitness routine.
Also, looking at our Fitbit challenges, you aren't the only one to have fallen off pace post SDCC. Come on everyone, keep it going! Don't put yourself into a hole where you have to do double the work just to get back to where you were.
I actually made it on to the treadmill today and didn't cry

I'm back to pacing back and forth in peoples cubes. They actually say they are use to it now :)
Still can't beat brand4d2 - I think he has a treadmill at his desk :)

So the big day for me is this coming Monday, my Blood Test Olympics so to speak and I'll see if the hundreds of miles that I've walked this quarter have helped my hemoglobin percentage as well as a hundred other tests - seriously, the order form from my physician covers three pages.
I'm in 15th place for August in the Fitbit diabetics group so I figure I should be doing as well as the best of them.
can i take this to mean your numbers were by & large good?
i hope so
anyone interested in getting more involved with the @nyccfit tweeting?
I've definitely lost momentum with a really busy stretch at work, it's also pumpkin season where I live, which adds hours to my commute. Coming up on 9 months before SDCC, so I've been thinking about starting something focused.
This is going to be one of my more wacky posts......
What is up with powered peanut butter??? Anyone tried it?
I ran it through the weight watchers App. Powered PB is 2 points vs regular PB which is 6 points. If it's decent it'll solve my PB cravings
I know there was a thread about getting fit somewhere, but I couldn't find it.
I wanted to share that after a really difficult and challenging time moving around SDCC 2016, I decided I have to do more to get in better shape...for cons..and for my life in general. I have a pretty sedentary job and needed something to get my blood pumping at my desk. I searched around and finally purchased an under the desk cycle. It is super quiet and after a learning curve of about a week, where my chair kept sliding back when I pedaled, I got the hang of it. Over the last 3 months I have now lost 30 pounds! I am so thrilled I had to share.
I started just doing 1 mile at at time, slowly building...now I pedal between 5 and 20 miles each day, and give myself a day of rest. This cycle has different 'effort' levels, so that you can pedal quickly and easily or make it more difficult.
For my upper body, I take some soft balls and play toss and catch...sometimes while pedaling. Then I feel like I am in the circus....lol.
Anyway, I am pretty happy with where I am going with this and I know I will be more ready for SDCC 2017....that is if I get tickets.
Forum Housekeeping:
Since there is still an active, already established "get fit" thread--it's more for getting healthy in general and can be applied to more than one convention--I'll merge this new thread into the older one ("the annual couch potato" thread).
Thanks Zero....this is the thread I was looking for!
My friend wanted to do the Great LA Walk this weekend, so we went. You start in Downtown LA and then walk all the way to the ocean. It took us 7 hours (including an hour lunch break) but we did it! She sent me the stats from her Fitbit afterward - we walked 17.3 miles, or 36,000 steps. It was a great time and we discovered parts of LA we'd never seen before, even though we've both lived here for a decade.
Who schedules a blood test for the day after Thanksgiving???? me! ;) I didn't really have a choice as I need to complete it at least a week before my quarterly visit with the endocrinologist. So sorry for your loss, Brandon. Sounds like you found a great way to honor him and help others, and help yourself at the same time. That app sounds interesting. I will have to check it out. ((hugs))
October was not a very good fitness month for me as my father was critically ill and I spent way too much time in hospitals not to mention all the tremendous stress and worrying. Unfortunately he didn't make it but out of that I found two things that I can do to help others in similar situations...I signed up for the Lung Cancer association's stair climbing event in April as well as downloaded the Charity Miles app which will give donations in my name for every mile that I walk. My dad got diagnosed with stage 4 cancer the week after SDCC and sadly it was too late for him as it struck rapidly and struck really hard and treatments were not effective at all. However, it's not too late for someone else out there and if my climbing up the stairs of a downtown Los Angeles tower for that event can help that person then I think I will do this yearly in honor of my late father.
Thanks, [member=317]Zero[/member] ! Recovery was pretty fast - the next morning, only my feet were still sore, and that's probably because I don't really have good shoes.
The route was to just stay on Pico Boulevard all the way across, so we saw some historic homes in West Adams, and a lot of small areas where different cultures had concentrated themselves - a Greek area, a Korean area, etc. And we passed some mysterious windowless buildings that we looked up during lunch - it turns out they're pumping stations for the Beverly Hills Oil Field. I had no idea there was an oil field under Beverly Hills!
My fitbit is officially done, it hasn't sync'd since November 4th. Does this mean none of my steps counted?
I'll Just have to count them manually.
Have you done the thing where you hook up the charger to your computer and push the little button? That might work to reset it. If not call the 800#. When mine died they sent me a new one, no charge.
I got my brother one for Christmas last year and it died. They offered to send a replacement, or let him upgrade to the newest, fanciest version for $30. Naturally, that's the option he took. ;)
there's a joke in there somewhere given your profession.....
today is the first day of reporting for the twitter challenge by @sdccfit called #NoHolidayGainChallenge. Folks were suppose to weigh themselves last Friday & report the gain/loss. the goal is to maintain your weight during the holidays.
if folks don't do twitter, your welcome to post here & I'll repost on twitter. remember we're just looking for the difference not the actual #.
eta, I lost 1.8lbs but that was due to turkey day digestion issues..... i've been tracking my weight on a daily basis for a year or 2 now so i've got a really good sense of where i am digestion wise.

Mines too old to replace. I tried resetting it and that worked! Thanks for sharing that trick :)
reminder, tomorrow is the check in day for the #noholidaygainchallenge [member=5419]Aaron[/member]
post your gain/loss for the week either here or on twitter
Tomorrow will be my first weigh then I'll post from there. Figured it was best to just start on a Friday, even if I am late to the party.
My body hurts. I'm still going to my classes at the gym and Pilates but not walking as much. Maybe I should educate on this "fibromyalgia thing" I was diagnosed with 30 years ago. I've been avoiding that becuz I'm very suggestible and would right away have any symptoms I learn about.
since it's officially January, how'd everyone do for weight gain/loss in December?
i think i gained a pound and a half
time to hit the treadmill- What's everyone's workout schedule? time for some mutual support?
Happy new year! I lost 2 lbs in December but early in the month. Last half of month I've been maintaining. Still doing Fitbit at least 10k a day. I'm also using the 30 day challenge app for strength training. December was the 30 day butt challenge, and in January I'm doing two - abs and arms. I did not meet my goal of doing a legit push up in 2016, so I'll focus on that as well. :)
Who else is going to work on their " food discipline" this month?that's where i am- i've got to cut the chocolate out /whimper/

problem is i've got a bunch of really really good dark chocolate in the house
Today I go through the pantry and throw away lots of perfectly good chocolate

I've put on about 5lbs in a week (damn you chocolate). But now I'm on the diet. Got someone coming to do professional headshots of me at the end of Feb, so have to get my weight down by then. So I'll be hardcoring the exercise and eating healthy for the next six weeks.you might want to re-weight yourself in a few days- it's kinda sounding like excess retention might be a possibility

I gained 10 pounds during my recent trip... but I'm already back on the wagon, dieting to get it off? I'm hoping a lot of this is water weight.
Hope you had a great time on your cruise!
I'm on my "track my calories" routine for the month of January, then will decide about February, etc. One week down! I had gained 8 lbs since last spring, just don't want the trend to continue.
I ADORE that idea! There are so many faves that I just want to have on to feel the 'aura' of goodness. I am going to try this.
..... it's putting one foot in front of the other day after day, month after month, it's progress not perfection. So good luck to all! Let's b e better in 2017!
some people find hard rules, like no deserts or drinking to be insurmountable. I tend to go more along the lines of, i won't have cheescake today..... :) but the main idea is right, it's the daily small choices that produce lasting control of ones weight/fitness. we use to call this a change in lifestyle & everyone finds their own balance.
first day back on the treadmill after surgery .... i finished what i set out to do & didn't feel horrible ::)
i've gained weight....
Glad you are back at it!thx, did you ever get your medical thing sorted ?

I lift 4 days a week, play basketball one day a week (more when it's nicer out but we play indoors now), and I walk to/from work. I walk (sans workouts) 25 miles a week since I live in NYC I have no car. I find that using "new years" as an excuse is silly. The gym empties out by the end of January. Since may of 2015, I've lost 25lbs not that I was huge to begin with. I'm 6"2 200lbs and feel great. I find it's the little changes that make a difference. I don't drink Mon-Friday anymore, don't eat candy, no desserts, etc. It's not that you wake up one day and are "healthy" it's putting one foot in front of the other day after day, month after month, it's progress not perfection. arggg
my jawbone fitness band broke
i got the jawbone u3 because it's not wide & doesn't look like a fitness band.
i can't see buying another jawbone if it's going to break
Get a Fitbit! Come to the dark side.
One of us, one of us...
Controlling my eating is difficult at night but I'm working on it.
this time of the year is soooo bloody hard given the colder weather- i just want meatloaf & mashed potatoes-
does the weather effect folks in the south as much as it does here up north?
I sometimes get the munchies in the evenings, and it's hard when the rest of my family is snacking on something and I can't. I find that a bottle of Coke Zero (or fizzy water if I don't want the caffeine that late at night) helps, because it gives me something to hold in my hands and helps fill my stomach, but without any calories.
I like to eat a snack in the evening and I don't deprive myself - when I feel deprived that's when I'm more likely to fall off the wagon and into a giant plate of cheese fries. I make sure throughout the day I'm eating right so I have enough calories left over for a snack. I use the Fitbit app to count calories. :)
Oh, and handfuls of carrots to munch on, that doesn't count as food, right???
ik, & I would enjoy that but i really do like the jawbone & to get a replacement is only $50
sry to not be joining everyone on fitbit.
Looks like we'll be doing a Fit episode on the hangout Feb 19th! [member=1987]The Mighty Jerd[/member] might have to talk pre-reg fall out LOL
I'm back on track after the medical stuff (yay). Still havent been able to get back into the strength training due to the physical stuff. it's really interesting how much the strength training helped shape the body & helped the specific areas. I've always kinda discounted people when they went on and on and on abt that... /silly me/
How are folks doing? getting their work outs in?
That's awesome, Brand! Were you able to keep climbing continuously, or did you have to take breaks?
Thanks TJ! No breaks but it's really distracting to see the floor numbers and then do the mental arithmetic of "okay only 30 more to go...only 25 more...etc.". I had music to listen to so next time I'll try to focus more on that and not go crazy counting down the floors ;)
Lots of inspiring posts here!
I have now walked 1,204 km playing Pokemon Go. No joke. 748 miles. Might just walk down from Davis, CA to SDCC this year. ;) As great as that is I have been at too many pubs/breweries late at night and the carbs negate the walking so I am not gaining weight but I'm not losing it either. Up to 40 pushups in a row and I do 100 each day. Same with sit ups. :) Tonight's dinner was blanched broccoli, BBQ chicken, cheesy rice washed down with bottle of Gigantic. Gotta get back to svelte self hahaha ...
This Saturday is the big day! Open reg, of course, but also my 63 story stair climb for the Lung Association! Months of training has all come to this and I'm pretty sure that I'd like to do this every year in honor of my late father.
Gonna be like a leaf upon the wind up those stairs! ;)
Congrats to you and BB-8!! I'll see you on the Sails steps in July :)
I'm a pretty big Funko collector and almost every weekend I drive around to a bunch of stores (sometimes as many as 15-20) looking for stuff. I always make sure to park as far away as possible from the store so I get some extra walking in :D It might sound silly, but it adds up!
Other than that now that it's nice outside I've been taking my dog for more walks and just trying to get out and about - every little bit helps!
[member=1256]Iris_aya[/member] , Best wishes on your recovery!
I just bought a Fitbit Charge 2 in January because the company I work for has health incentives where the number of steps you walk each day and tracking your fitness adds up points - and they pay you if you hit different levels with the points. I like my Charge 2 - I have a small wrist and worried it would be huge on me, but it's actually just a little bit big. If the Alta had the heart rate at the time I was buying, I might have considered that one. But I've been happy with mine. I already had to get it replaced once though because it died on me, but the Fitbit people were pretty good at replacing it.
Back in the gym after a very long hiatus. Trying to get more fit and SDCCfit.Awesome! Welcome back to getting #SDCCfit! What kind of workouts do you do at the gym?
Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
First, thanks for the best wishes!Want to also send out best wishes for your recovery! So sorry that you had to go through all of that.
I was considering the Charge 2 moreso because of the heart rate tracking, and I think your comments have further supported my thought on that. Especially with FitBit being good about replacing it.
Ten weeks until SDCC!! Woo hoo! How's everyone coming on their fitness goals?
I'm really mad at my Fitbit.
I recently got an iPhone and was playing with all the neat features, including the step counter. The numbers were noticeably higher than my Fitbit step numbers so I did a test, and took a walk with my Fitbit, the iPhone step counter, and the Pacer app, and counted my steps in my head as well. The iPhone and Pacer numbers were quite close to each other and to my count in my head, but the Fitbit number was 15% lower! So I did a longer walk and the numbers were even more out of whack --- 4.2 miles, with Pacer at 8000 steps, iPhone at 8200, and Fitbit at 6300.
So I guess my Fitbit is now my watch that lights up :-\
I have the Fitbit Charge HR and I've known it was shorting me for a while now. I guess I don't really mind, it would be worse if it was giving me extra steps. It's much more accurate when I fasten it around my bra strap but that's not a look I can rock all day long. ::) I'm thinking of switching to the Fitbit One or Fitbit Zip as they clip on and are supposedly more accurate.
I have the opposite problem as you, TardisMom. My iphone 6 (which is going to be replaced soon) is the one shortchanging me for steps and flights climbed while my Fitbit One gives higher numbers.
I've been working too much. I better get moving and in shape or I'm not gonna survive SDCC 2017.
I have been doing better at getting even 15-30 minutes of cardio in before or after work but my job is super stressful and most days of the week my couch, a beer and Netflix talk me out of working out. I'm averaging 5-6,00 steps on my Fitbit which is better than it was a month ago :) On the days I can talk myself into working out I feel so much better, less stressed and even sleep better but does anyone have any tips on finding motivation or ways to turn it into an everyday thing no matter what?
I've been working too much. I better get moving and in shape or I'm not gonna survive SDCC 2017.This! This past year has been crazy busy since we lost people in our department, and did not replace them. On top of that, my boss left, and I am now team lead for our group in Guadalajara. At least I am not the boss-I don't want that job! But, I do have a lot of my old boss's responsibilities.
I re-joined Weight Watchers this week. I guess I need structure. I know I won't be to goal by SDCC, but should be healthier. I got the food tracking down, but need to focus on an exercise plan this weekend.i find the ww app to be really useful- the bar code scanner is brilliant. I feel as tho a good 85% of my weight loose is due to restricting food intake. not to minimize exercise, it's great- and it certainly helps but restricting food intake is critical.
Since I got a low back pain due to stress, I lost condition for resting two weeks. Now I feel tired after less than half hour standing still and my right leg hurts a little. I'm going again to the doctor to see what I can do to rehab and get ready for walking a lot at the con
i have a wonky knee. i did some PT work on it a while ago & it really helped. I've started back with my PT person and am even doing my exercises between appointments.Well, I haven't gone to PT but I feel a little recovered so this Monday I started to walk for now. I'm tired but is just because I was doing any physical activity the last month. So far I walk 2 miles in 40 minutes. I think is the least I can do before the con, considering all the walking and standing that requires.
ask the Doc for a Round of PT. having an appointment one or twice a week is wonderful- it really helps
i wish my weight loss would conform to the Black Friday sales !!! That would be great :DWas at the mall this weekend and noticed that Victoria's Secret is having their semi-annual sale. I don't know if it's as good as the November sale, but just thought I'd mention it. Looking at the website, it seems it's still going on.
i usually happy just to get through nov/dec with out gaining too much
We really need to start challenging each other in Fibit :DDid anyone ever get this started? I've started back walking and always find a little friendly competition to be a great motivator. I'd definitely join any challenges if we can make it happen!
I got an iPhone and I'm using it to count steps now (since I discovered my Fitbit was at least 15% low on my step count).Yeah, I think they all tend to be a little off, either high or low. For example my IPhone says I have hit 5673 today, my Fitbit says 6671. I just look at it as a guideline. If it says I walked 8000 steps today, I try to add activity the next day to make sure I get close to my target 10000.
I am worried. I was working hard towards my goal with both strength & cardio- then one wrong move at the market & my knee went out.Oh no! Who is gonna make a schedule for volunteers to roll our venerable leader around the convention center?! (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170614/5da6ae2c717d5c30c56e10f20463007c.jpg)
I go in for a mri next week. the fear is an ACL tear.
I have a PT appointment on Thursday. hopefully we can figure out a way so i can stay in shape during rehab.

I'd definitely join any challenges if we can make it happen! One of the Facebook SDCC groups has been doing them, and they are keeping me on my toes (Devorah and Aaron have been involved, along with a couple of other forum members). But, we do need to start up the ones we were doing with the forum members.
I will set up a Weekend Warrior challenge, if anyone is interested.Done! :)
There was a Lapras today (Pokemon) I jumped out of bed, dressed and ran up the street to get it. I realized on my way that I was't wearing my fitbit. Does this mean the steps never counted? Just like the tree never made a sound?
thx as long as it's not a torn acl- i'm will be good to go for sdcc
and my mri was moved up to tomorrow /big grin/
Done! :)I sent you an invite to Jim's Weekend Warrior challenge. :)

I've been slacking on SDCCfit for the past couple months due to a knee injury. Planning on getting back to it starting this weekend!
How was the appointment, Alyssa? What did they say?pulled quad muscle
After walking around Vegas for several days last week, and then E3 yesterday, my knee has decided to protest... So I may not be able to get back to running this weekend after all :( I will have to come up with an alternative workout routine that does not involve impacting my knee. Which I should have been doing all along anyway...i don't know your situation- but my PT person is really good about helping me strengthen teh muscles around my knee and working with me one my over all strenth -I saw a noticeable improvement with my knee prior to my most recent injury
pulled quad muscle
I will be fine for sdcc as long as i do the program- I was even on the tread mill doing slow walking for 20 mins today.

Good to know. I haven't seen a doctor or anything about it, so I may end up getting it checked out.i'm not a doctor person- but am a huge Personal therapy advocate.

I was feeling weakness in my knee- like it was going to give out. I saw noticeable improvement within 2 or so PT visits.
the PT person really worked with me, strengthening my body to the point where we were developing an at home plan of a series of 10 body resistance exercises. Those should enable me to maintain & not loose strength
You are a good patient ;D
I've been back on the SDCCfit train since the end of April. So far, I've lost 18 lbs, and I'm hoping to lose 10 lbs more.
Also, a bit of a gripe, if I may. What stinks for me is that I walk and jog so much normally that when I get to SDCC, I actually end up GAINING like 5-10 lbs, not losing weight like other people. It's because I walk less there than I do at home, and some days will be spent in a panel room or sitting in line all day. Then on top of that, I eat way, way worse. I think I'm going to buy fresh fruit/veggies from Ralph's on Wednesday. Grrr...it's frustrating.

Definitely preparation is key here, if you don't come prepared with supplies then you're stuck eating whatever you can find, but if you take the time to stock up on supplies (from Ralph's), then there a much better chance that you'll have at least "better for you" goodies... how about some veggies and hummus dip

Thanks guys! I have to do something so I can be as awesome as [member=3681]comicconfamily[/member] :)
awww, very sweet of you! :) <3 We can do this!! And congrats to you winning weekend warrior! How can I join the fitbit group too? I don't know what my user name is? This is my profile though: https://www.fitbit.com/user/2CFND5I am Angela C. on fitbit. I just sent you a friend invite.
An update on my Weight Watchers progress-I have lost 11 pounds since I started! Woo hoo!!!it's a constant -- for me it's not allowing myself too many treats- and when i should choose fruit over a bagel & cream cheese.
I have done WW before, and had great success. Hopefully, this time around, I will remember that I need to keep at it. I love the structure that it gives, and getting away from monitoring my food intake is exactly why I had to rejoin.

My SDCCFit paid off as I am not sore at all, just a bit tired. I did manage to gain a few pounds even with all that walking so I guess it's back to work!

I went in with a weak knee and skinned the other one on pv nite. But it only caused minor problem and I was able to do some fast walking when needed /connanpop etc/
Not making me feel any better... >:|
Know what'll make you feel better? #SDCCFit ;)
i am so screwed, I had a year to plan for this and planning is all did. #lazy
I slacked off way too much this con by going to 14 panels and ended up with 46,000 fewer steps than last year.
2016 178,366 steps for the week
2017 132,611 steps for the week
Cone of shame for me!
all of a sudden i'm thinking my step count of 90,131 for pv-monday was a bit slackMine was lower, and I didn't do Hall H on Saturday, if that makes you feel better.
i blame hall h on saturday -
i guess I didn't get around much, I didn't average more than I do when going to a baseball game, around 15K per day.
i lost my jawbone tracker at boston comic con... not only do i NOT know how many steps- i don't have my tracker thingy. /sigh/
I just bought q fitbit flex 2, can I get into one of the groups?

Did you find a group?I guess I found one in the fitbit page and joined it, but it doesn't appear on my app

Welcome to the sdccfit/comicconfit zone. you're in the right place- we're all about loosing a few pounds, and increasing stamina so we can enjoy life a bit more-
and very supportive!

i lost 60 lbs and have kept it off for 2 years- my biggest suggestion is to control how much you eat- i did/do it via weight watchers- there are plenty of other options out there. choose one that is based on the perimeter of grocery stores- vegg, protein, lean dairy. not dieting- just reducing the amt of food you eat. Ik, Ik easier said then done- believe me i know! it's about retaining your eating for your current level of exertion
if i've been good i treat myself to the following;
Chloe's Dark Chocolate fruit pop or
1/2 cup Breyers delights ice cream with a diet vanilla cream soda- like a rootbeer float
Follow ^, top notch motivator and it's awesome the sense of community that he's built around getting fit all around SDCC and more. While I'm nowhere near where Aaron is, it's really coot to see his tweets on what he's run, plans for staying fit, and various other motivational items. Makes me strive to do better where I can. Great stuff!Thank you, sir!
Anyone doing the #ComicConFit #NoHolidayGainChallenge? I'm down 1.2 lbs from last week's baseline weigh-in! As I mentioned on Twitter, my baseline weight this year was 11.6 lbs higher than last year. :o This challenge is just the wake up call I need to start getting back to getting fit. Thank you [member=5419]Aaron[/member]!oh yeah, i weight myself almost everyday due to not wanting to go back to the weight i was ;)
Lost 40lbs since last Thanksgiving :D No crazy system or anything, just tried to cut out sugar (artificial as well), fast food, and watch my carb intake as well as significantly upping my workouts. Unfortunately between age and poor form suffered a couple of injuries but still chugging along. Have an obstacle course race through the mountains next weekend that I'm excited about.

I go to the gym everyday. Granted it's in Pokemon Go. But, hey, it's a start.
... I can't wait to see/feel what I'm like by Comic-Con!
Remember everybody: if you want to get in legit shape you have to exercise AND have a good diet. I changed my diet awhile back and lost around 20 pounds just from the diet change. Since I started kickboxing before Christmas I've let my diet go (stupid holiday snacking/junk food/candy); I have to be more disciplined about what I eat, and to not eat too much junk after dinner. I don't know if one can affect awesome health change w/out diet AND exercise: one w/out the other will get you in a better place, no doubt, but not ultimate top health
ANY activity prior to con adds massively to the enjoyment of con. I've run the gambit- massively over weight & out of shape, so so shape, good shape & light- even being so-so with the physical condition sets a person up for a much better con!As an adult (30's-now, 41) I've never been way overweight, or felt I was in a bad place weight-wise or health wise. But I've never been in good shape either, except maybe when I was in college. I've never done anything like this; the only exercising I've ever done was walking, and I was walking 4.5/5 miles an hour when I was at my healthiest. I'm really excited to see where I'm at in 6 months! Of course, I reeeeeally need to do better at not eating junk food at night, and eating better meals. But hopefully that will all click sooner than later
that was the premise for starting to talk abt geek fitness- anything and everything is better then nothing. ;)
and this isn't directed to perc2100 but being 60lbs heavier and not able to walk up a flight of stairs led to a miserable end of sdcc for me. On the other side, being 30 lbs lighter & in decent condition (able to walk a mile in 20 min's) led to sprinting across the street/down the block on Monday following con.

It depends on if you want to loose weight- if you're happy where you are & can do everything you want to ( don't feel beat up on the monday after a big con) then there isn't any reason to limit your food- as long as you do get enough healthy stuff.
The problem comes when a person wants to loose weight. Loosing is mostly done in the Kitchen- & while up'ing the metabolic rate helps it's not the key to weight loss.
being fit certainly does help the cloths fit better and makes it easier to loose -
on sunday we're starting the mysterbox challenge- it's a cooking excersize formulated to help us all be a bit more mindful of what we eat- more veg less fat etc.
I'll be posting teh guide lines & food box items here on sunday If anyone wants to take part.
there will be a list of items, folks are asked to pick 4 add their own pantry items or augment with others, and see what they come up with.
it's a challenge in cooking creativity & naming , a prize will be given for the best name ;) since we have folks from all over I'm hoping to get a variety of different meals from the same ingredients that I can cook myself.
once the mysterbox is over, [member=5419]Aaron[/member] is going to be running a veggie challenge during Feb- We're trying to get folks a little more accustom to cooking with fresh produce - but not too wacky- like Kale is still a challenge for me- i'd like to cook with it more but i'm clueless- maybe if i had a way to use it... OH how about I push on aaron to do a veggie of the week that WE nominate /mine is an evil laugh/ He has to figure out how to cook it for us....
Brussels sprouts? I live in Brussels sprout central so I should probably learn how to cook them better :) An added complication I am having these days is trying to move to a very low-sodium diet since many of the recipes I know for veggies are pretty high in sodium.as someone who rarely cooks with anything processed and has to be reminded to add salt, this baffles me.... just don't add salt ? What am i missing?

I love salt and add it to everything. My arteries are clogging up just thinking about it. But I avoid adding butter or lots of oil to my veggies, so it is a trade off. I love roasted brussel sprouts.
This is me. I (knock on wood) have never had blood pressure problems, which is good, because I salt everything to an insane degree. Generally we do brussels sprouts with lots of salt and pepper, or with pancetta (also salty). Sometimes we just do a balsamic vinegar glaze, though... is there lots of sodium in that?
Balsamic vinegar is great, a little more sodium than other vinegars but still really low, will have to try a glaze. I've been using it with olive oil for a makeshift salad dressing.
I joined Weight Watchers today! Well a few days ago but I started today. :)
Does anyone else use WW? How do you like it?
I joined Weight Watchers today! Well a few days ago but I started today. :)I started Weight Watchers again after Comicpalooza last year (May). I have been doing well-have lost 35 pounds so far. I am loving the new Freestyle program (mostly because they made corn zero points!! Also like that chicken breast and eggs are zero points) I do it online only, but it really gives me structure.

Wasn't brussel sprouts what Sheldon had on cruciferous vegetable night... ;)
Any kinda safe exercise can help so u not get winded or feel gotta take a break alot and able to handle walking at anytime through out the day. there are variety areas and places u can sit, chat and grab some eats if not have any with u at time. even slow job is good to where it kinda like fast walking in a way and the more u walk or jog over time u wont mind walking or jogging cause u pace ur breathing and feel better with the fresh air u get around u if not around areas that got u sucking in crap in ways. but being at the con is really not alot of running it more like alot of walking at times cause for safety u cant run inside just fast walking if not in area the gets clogged cause people stop and dont move when told to at time. but there are times staff be around and if see it slow too much they will say to move to side so traffic keeps flowing like the blod in ur veins when nothing stops it from flowing right. that one thing about a job i had last year , it gave u some power to make everyone move at anytime if on the clock. but had to deal with it when not working lol cause had staff around to help at anytime.Definitely agree [member=6880]cabler30[/member] about not needing to run at the Con! I am hoping that improving my running before SDCC will help me not feel exhausted at the end of the day! :)

I joined Weight Watchers today! Well a few days ago but I started today. :)I did that for awhile several years ago and it worked well. I'm a planner, so the meticulousness of tracking food intake worked pretty well for me. I think I only dropped it because money was tight at the time and it was an 'easy' thing to cut back on. I naively thought "I've been doing this for a year or so & I can track my meals myself (spoiler: that didn't work out so well).

I naively thought "I've been doing this for a year or so & I can track my meals myself (spoiler: that didn't work out so well).I read about an app called iTrackBites. It seems like it's similar to WW. The app is $1.99 for Android. There are in app purchases, but I read those aren't really necessary. I looked into it, but still decided to go with WW (I am wondering if iTrackBites might go away for legal reasons-it has been around a few years without apparent issues, but you never know.)
For whatever reason I've not come back to weight watchers but maybe that will be my next step after I feel more comfortable w/the kickboxing program and I'm looking to kick it up to the next level.

i was on ww - and did well with it however the $20/month is steep- I had thought once i reached my goal weight i'd be able to use the app for free. That is not the case- the free lifetime offer is only open to folks who go to the meetings & do on site weight in'sI've heard good things about My Fitness Pal. They seem to have a really extensive food database.
I have gained 5 lbs since christmas- and still reach for the WW app to track. /sigh/ I intend to try other free/one time payment apps.
I'll look into that one [member=364]Angology[/member] I may also look into these; https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/318610.php

I've heard good things about My Fitness Pal. They seem to have a really extensive food database.I have used My Fitness Pal before and found it easy to use!! Personally, I have found the carbs are my biggest culprit, so I have the most success when I cut back on them. There are some decent faux-carb recipes that I have found for when I need a fix!
We're predicted to get close to a foot today.. and i'm at work :(
Anyone try Orange Theory? I am thinking about trying it to get fit for con. I'm a bit worried because I found out I'm being laid off in 6 weeks but I think $15 a class is reasonable. Just you have to buy 4 for that month.
I have some friends that go there and they love it, cost wise I think there's a heart monitor you have to buy as well.
I really fell off the wagon over last 6 months. This was my big week to start and I get a cold. I really need to get motivated! What gets you all motivated? There's a fitness challenge on the Funko Funatics boards that keeps me motivated. I have to message a picture of my weight to the guy that runs it, which is terrifying, but motivating. Plus, there are prizes. :) It's just run by a member, not Funko itself.

I also am part of a group on Facebook that started from the SDCC Badgeholders group. We do Fitbit challenges every week, and we started doing adventure races too (also on Fitbit), which are fun too.

Just don't really expect your prize. I never got mine. I think first place did.Bummer about the prize, kudos on the Orange theory! I'm looking to drop 20 myself
I just did my first class at orange theory fitness class and survived! It was intense and just what I needed I signed up for 4 classes a month. I've gotten even bigger than when I joined this thread so I am hoping to join you all at SDCC 20 lbs lighter this year.

I am sooooooo sore from that Orange Theory class! I wish I could pay someone to workout for me...lol

Congrats on the surviving that first class! It's always the hardest. I may look into it-there is one fairly close to my house.

I ran into [member=364]Angology[/member] last night and I have to say that she looks fabulous! Her hard work has really paid off!Awww! Thanks! It was great seeing you. I wish we could have done dinner.
i dusted off the treadmill today.... and did some of my strength thingies.
and
put on the wrist monitor (fitbit)
i supposes i should join the group for Fitbit motivation... but i'm not that motivated
My insurance just gave me a free fitbit zip so this intrigues me! What is the Fitbit group and how do I join? I've been SUPER lazy lately and need a good motivator!I wish I had a fitbit for kickboxing. I don't dare wear my Apple Watch for that, but I'm really curious to know how many calories I burn in a 60 minute class. One guy w/a fitbit regularly burns 1000+ calories a class, though he's in WAY better shape/agile than I (I still fail at quite a bit of core training stuff so I assume this guy in great shape who's been in the class for awhile is burning more than me).
I'm desperately trying to get motivated again. I was walking on the treadmill daily before -- at least 8000 steps a day and a few days over 10K, which was huge for me. I got sick in December and just stopped. :( I've been hit or miss with wearing my fitbit too (more miss than hit). And once again, WonderCon and Disneyland killed my feet and legs. I was doing StepBet which was hugely motivating for me before so I think I should probably start that again. You and me both. I finally started working out again this week. Preview Night is 103 days away. That should be some kind of motivation. Stepbet looks interesting!
I need to get in on this StepBet! I could have been killing it all this time! ;)I am thinking your Fitbit died from exhaustion! You are a step-master, that's for sure. Good luck with the stair climb event. Such a noble cause.
My Fitbit one completely died recently...put thousands of miles on it over 2 years so now I have a new Charge 2 Fitbit.
This Saturday will be my second time doing the American Lung Association’s stair climb event in Los Angeles. It’s going to be very warm that day and my wave isn’t until 11:45 am so I may not beat last year’s time. I won’t kill myself trying to beat I though as the important thing is that I’m doing this for lung disease research and to honor my late father.
I'm doing the weight watchers freestyle program now and starting to get into the groove of how to stick to it and feel full. I've also just finished week 1 of the Couch to 5k program. I've used this before and it really helps. My body is already starting to remember what it felt like when I was running a couple miles a day!I am loving the Freestyle program. Down 45 pounds so far. It's been a slower go this time around because I have been taking more breaks, but it is a workable plan.
I think I'm on good track for my SDCC goal as well as my end of year goal.
[member=364]Angology[/member] ... how long have you been doing the WW Freestyle? I have been considering starting it and was wondering how effective it was ?Only from the beginning of the year (when it started), but have been on WW since May of last year. I have taken breaks for cons, and Thanksgiving to New Year’s day, so I think I would have lost more had I not. I am taking amore relaxed approach these days.

I think I will give WW a try... thanks for answering my question. :)Words cannot express how much I love that corn is a free food. And eggs and chicken breast and beans, etc. etc. I try not to overdo them, but it's nice to have them as options when you are hungry.
I'm still learning to navigate the FitBit app but I'm always looking for some accountability and motivation and trying to do weekly challenges, if anyone would like to add me my email is [email protected]!I sent you an invitation from Angela C.

I got a rude shock today ---
the first step on the scale after vaka....
plus i am NOT in good enough shape for SDCC
Yeah, I'm not happy with where I'm at right now either. :\ Just gonna keep at it and keep checking. We've got a good two and a half months to keep working. We got this!
I'm like 7 pounds lighter than last year, but I'm still another 7 pounds away from my goal to SDCC. I feel a lot better for this year and hope it will be like this from now on...

Breaking my ankle has put a damper on everything and can’t walk At least I haven’t been super hungry the last two weeks since breaking it... lol
can u get some time with a PT person? you may be able to come up with a series of movements that maintain your current condition & maybe even strengthen it
it is amazing to me how much variation there is in my weight between when i get hm and once my system is cleared out -
i got hm on Wed., weighted myself. 2 days later i am 5 lbs lighter. LOL & it's not water weight ;)
[member=8063]clarrkkent[/member] you may want to incorporate some light at home weight training now. I've found tremendous benefit in just doing a series of light body weight resistance exercises consistently.
I'm talking 10/15 reps with 3/2 sets
leg lifts (all 4 directions)
modified situps
door pushups
planking
etc
No worries. I’m getting that in. The 8fit app I’ve been doing is short, HIIT workouts using mostly body weight or light weights. I’ve added a 25 lb weight vest to most of the workouts.I should have known ... LOL
I guess I meant “serious” weight training to add lean mass. Heavy squats, deadlifts, clean and jerk, lots of compound movements. Not unfamiliar with those. Just been quite a while since I’ve stepped into the weight room (aka my garage).
So, of course, now that I'm all signed up for Weight Watchers, I find out my health insurance offers a super similar thing for ZERO dollars. *sigh*to my mind the huge advantage WW has is the app- with the bar code scanner- invaluable at the grocery store!
to my mind the huge advantage WW has is the app- with the bar code scanner- invaluable at the grocery store!Very true! I'm already on with WW for a few months so I may use a combo of their resources. I can decide at the end of my WW time which I like better.

MyFitnessPal is great for tracking calories and macros too. Granted, it’s not a points system like WW so requires more know how if tracking macros.
what all does the bar code scanner tell you?I can't remember if it lists the fat/carbs etc or if it just gave the point value. It's been a while since i've been on WW
I can't remember if it lists the fat/carbs etc or if it just gave the point value. It's been a while since i've been on WWIt gives you the points value and the breakdown. I don't eat tons of packaged food but it's super invaluable for the stuff I do eat...helps choose better bread and basically deter me from breaking and getting chips.

I love the zero points food simplicity and when I'm sticking to it I really started to loose. I'm finally past all the big food social stuff of the spring and am ready to get serious about it again.

every little bit helps....my biggest issue right now is constant pain in both my heels.... arthritis in my Achilles tendons...makes it tough to get moving sometimes
proper shoes go a long way to help with that
one of the tricks my sister does re sugar is to only eat 'home made' items- they could be neighbors/bake sales etc-
I like sweet but not sugar- if that makes any sense - like i'll eat a Cannoli but not a cupcake
my son works at a very creative bread type bakery-
I've got a half doz fav's. they have a Sunflower seed bread that is yummy ... a perfect side/starch for a soup dinner
I'm also not really losing after dumping 5 pounds really fast. I'm hoping that is because I'm putting on some muscle from the workouts and the weight loss will start again soon.
Tomorrow I finish week 8 of the couch 2 5k program! My pace is terrible (compared to when I was running before) but it's getting there! I've been feeling some differences in my yoga the past couple weeks too. Getting further into poses than before and such.
I've got some good 20 minute yoga routines that really focus on stretching out that I'm gonna load up on my tablet for post con stretching every day.
I gained 15 pounds on our recent Florida trip and have dropped 6 pretty quickly since we got back... but I'm working on the remaining 9 now. I'm pretty much living on chicken/white bean soup (high in protein) and apricots from our backyard tree.
Starting to get a little nervous about eating at the con. I've made so much progress. I can feel it in how my clothes fit, and energy levels, plus workouts. But the closer we get the bigger my cravings are getting. I'm doing well avoiding them so far because saving money for SDCC means no eating out or going off grocery budget! But whew, I caught myself looking at the MGH restaurant menus the other day and envisioning a giant burger and fries and margarita as soon as I check in.
Of course I'm gonna let myself have a few treats but I need to keep myself in check and on the wagon that week. I don't want to undo these 10 pounds!
Challenge #1: We have a catered 4th party at work today. From one of the best restaurants in town. So, lets see how I do today! hahah
I did alright! Had one tiny bite of a sausage. Then stuck to coleslaw, mac n cheese, and a roll. Did sample some desserts because my coworkers made them! But, I took small enough portions that I didn't feel crazy full afterwards. Ate sensibly yesterday. :DHere is the SDCCFIT group (not super active)
On another note, I finally joined the Fitbit cult. Anyone else here have one? I think we can make groups? Anyone interested in friending up or grouping?
Awesome! Friend request is coming your way from Cat C.Some of the forum members are doing a weekend warrior challenge this weekend and a workweek hustle next week. Do you want an invite?

At the end of June I became a vegetarian. I have now lost 33 lbs. and counting. Today I had to buy a new belt because my old one didn’t have enough notches.

Nice job! Do you think it’s from an overall caloric deficit due to less calorie dense food?Well, I ate more nutritious caloric dense foods like almonds which are good for the heart and avocados. I must’ve ate at least half an avocado a day since June. I am sure my daily caloric intake has dropped but The idea of writing down every calorie is too tedious for me. For my dinners I cut out carbs almost completely. Absolutely no processed foods. Plenty of salads from Trader Joe’s. Made meals from the Engine 2 Diet. We usually order pizza from Steve’s Place which is gluten free.

It's that time of year again. I have to get prepared for the holiday eating binge that I know is coming. So my husband and I started keto again yesterday. We did well on it last winter, so we have hopes again for this winter.
My boss walked in today and announced that he was starting keto. He then gave me his fancy pre-made meals that he can't eat anymore. This is literally the highlight of my week. ;D
Fancy, pre-made meals? What are those?
LOL, on Keto, I pretty much live on caprese salad with lots of oil. Sometimes I'll throw in pesto and/or no-carb bread. And I have fatty/bulletproof tea when I need those extra fat grams. For a treat, I'll do a pesto pizza on a cauliflower crust.
They're these meals packaged in meal prep containers that he was ordering through Under Armour gym. The company is called Territory. You can probably design them based on what your goals are. I had calabrese-style chicken with eggplant & basil mashed potatoes today.
I wouldn’t call mine fancy, but I subscribe to freshly and/or factor 75. Pre made meals that are prepared and delivered weekly. I just choose the meals based on the macro/workout regiment I’m on.
Now I’ll have to check out Territory!

I have lost 70 lbs. since July and not in a healthy way. Initially, I was losing weight at a healthy rate ( about 2 lbs. a week) by becoming a vegetarian and exercising. Sadly, I ended with some really serious digestive issues that sent me to the ER four times. I had to be put on some Proton Pump Inhibitors which caused several other health issues that I am still dealing with. The deathly ill diet is no fun and I don’t recommend it. On the plus side, my old clothes fit and my gut/digestion is returning to normal. Knock on wood. Stay healthy everyone.

I am so sorry to hear that you went through this! I am sending good vibes that you are on the road to recovery,
Sadly I took 20lbs of your 70ilbs and am now working to on losing it. Being laid off and taking 7 months to get a job really threw me into a depression I have never dealt with before. I am finally working, not my dream job but pays the bills. They have a free gym here and I bought a rebounder. As of last week I no longer sit to watch TV, I bounce!
Current status: dreaming of fitting into my old clothes.
Thanks for taking 20! ;)

I am sending good vibes that you are on the road to recovery, Sadly I took 20lbs of your 70ilbs and am now working to on losing it. Being laid off and taking 7 months to get a job really threw me into a depression I have never dealt with before. I am finally working, not my dream job but pays the bills. They have a free gym here and I bought a rebounder. As of last week I no longer sit to watch TV, I bounce! Not great. I think I'm going to try Beyonce's air and hope diet.
My goal was to lose 10 lbs before comic-con. Total fail. I ended up gaining 10 lbs. Stress eating.
so.... my quest for free food may have backfired, I gained 5 pounds at con LOL
How'd everyone do this year?
I'm doing this wrong! Where was all this free food!?
Panda Express had an offsite where all they did was give away free food. It was just their new chicken dish but I can eat a lot of chicken. Just keep rotating back into line. It moved fast. They also had soda and water. The Amazon Prime offsite also had free food. Pennyworth had cookies, chocolate and lemonade. There was free food at the Petco Parking Lot like chips, chocolate, ice cream and soda. At Power Hour there was free bar food and a completely open bar.

It. Was. Free?!!! My wife and I saw the construction on Tuesday and thought they would make a fortune!
Just finished week 9 of 14 for C210K, on the way to the 10 mile Broad Street run!
I've found that a week of explosive diarrhea followed a month later by a mild case of the flu (yes, I got my flu shot) are good for about a 10 lb weight loss.
I went to my very first spin class with a friend. I can't say that I enjoy it, exactly, but it's a great workout!Haha you learn to love it.

I've been back since that first class. I like how intensive it is b/c I can't really motivate myself to go that hard when I'm alone. But on the other hand I still don't enjoy the activity itself. I feel like it might get to enjoyable with a really *great* playlist, but so far I haven't been to a class where that happened. The instructor makes or breaks the class as far as enjoyment. I’ve been to classes I hated because the instructor wasn’t a good fit for me or the music was bad.

My most effective diet ever was food poisoning... but I would NOT recommend it.
the local ymca in City heights SD is closing for the duration.
I've got a list of 12 exercises i can do at home for a rounded core strength sequence. I'll dig it out & list them in case it'll help other folks.
Everything is closed except my garage gym! It’s always a benefit to have a home gym and now even more so in times like this. Not pictured are gymnast rings, climbing rope, additional squat rack, and adjustable dumbbells.
Brother-in-law wants to come use it though. Should I hand him a hazmat suit as he walks in the door?

I've been walking the 2 miles home rather than taking the bus. Increasing trips to the gym for extra walking cardio and weights. And yoga. I will be stretchy and ready to stand in lines and sit in small chairs.
Here's my round of core strength training. This is preceded by 20 min of cardio, like walking. I usually aimed for a mile
these are gentle, basic moves designed for someone who is not a gym person
Please, if there is something unclear either ask, or if you find a modification that is better post the change!!
Exercise list
Do each exercise 3 sets of 10 OR 2 sets of 15. Whichever causes a burn.
Leg lifts: this works the leg muscles
Use ankle weights if capable. lift leg to about 10-12 inches off the floor

Both leg lifts: This works the abdominal muscles.

Lower back: be careful with this one
1) lay on tummy with feet under a heavy piece of furniture and hands clasped behind your back.

My New Year's resolution was to lose 10 pounds. I only have 15 more to go.i resemble that remark !

And I agree, just don't have stuff on hand.
For me it's more of a need to crunch on something than real hunger, if you know what I mean. I'll grab just a couple (like, 4-6) goldfish crackers and give them a good chomping. Then my brain is happy for a bit, lol. And I agree, just don't have stuff on hand.

Oddly, when I do regular kickboxing at least twice a week my weight is OK, but since COVID has radically altered that regularity for one reason or another I've def. gained a bit of weight. I joke around that my wife lost around 30 pounds during COVID, while I've found it
I am right there with you. I do cucumbers with a touch of garlic salt.
