Title: SDCC 2018 offsite events
Post by: cabler30 on January 20, 2018, 03:08:57 PM
I dont know if this has already been started, but it still maybe too early to really know what they might try to promote for us to check out as an outside event to check out if we by chance tire of things inside for any reason.

i just saw new trailer for the incredibles summer 2018- so it can be one i guess. as said it still so early to know what will be setup for any studio or theme right now, just i think too much at times and know alot or some create a thread so thought i try and see how many can maybe guess what may be created outside the con for the few days its around. i have learned u can score some good freebies or swag from offsites and inside. i know i got some goodies here and there without even expecting cause i never really ask anyone where they get stuff i just go by boths and ask if something by chance is free or see signs and take 1 or 2 at time so not be greedy but know i over did last year lol, but have learned to plan but dont expect to do all u wanna do ea day.

Zac Levi did an instagram live a few days ago and talked about Nerd HQ. He said there is a possibility it MIGHT be back this year in some form. He explained that right now he and his partner are working on finding a venue because the New Children's Museum has already been booked. The same things came up as always: venue, money to put on the event, logistics, etc.

I want to stress it is still very much up in the air if it will happen. But hopefully things can come together!

Yea, i can see how they try to bring back offsite events every year but as i have learned it does cost some bank to have it happen every year. if not everyday then be cool if they was able to have for like alday or half day this year if possible. i still not not sure what other off sites they gonna have till sdcc start posting news later. so alot stuff still not solid till they are able to say sometime after wondercon is done and over.

This is something I didn't know about, so maybe I should check it out this year...

“If you have a badge, you will be able to get in the front of the line for food and drinks and activations,” Ridgeway said. “For experiences like last year’s It bus, which usually had a 3-4 hour wait, badge-holders would go to the front of the line.”

I'm just wondering how many badgeholders there will be! Will there be 2 lines for every activation: one with and one without a badge?

Still, I am glad to see badgeholders getting priority.

If they do it right it does sound like a great idea, especially the badge holder part.  I really like the thought of a bunch of fun stuff going on over there in the evening.  I remember PETCO being pretty great the first couple of years we did SDCC with lots of stuff to do.  The last 2 years we have gone through there in minutes as besides the IT bus and Evil Dead cabin there wasn't anything that peaked our interest and those both had huge lines.

I definitely like the idea of a badge holder FOL deal. When you have a badge you don't want to waste a ton of your day outside the con waiting in lines for offsites, but we also know as badge holders we are their target, so I like the idea of them adding a little something to sweeten the pot for us.

Fear not, Genji mains, Blizzard is bringing the payload to you! The Overwatch Payload Tour, unveiled today, is a summer-long event for cosplayers, though non-cosplayers are also welcome, at some of the more prominent US game and geek conventions.(including SDCC)

Beginning at PAX East next week, there will be a promised “one-of-a-kind” photo experience on a 360-degree panoramic stage set at the center of some Overwatch maps, and a selection of iconic Overwatch weapons will be on hand as well.

Those who are able to attend will also get an exclusive pin, with a unique design for every convention the event will be held at.

There's a current exhibition at the Fleet Science Center that will still be running during Comic-Con--

MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition--

"Does toast always land butter-side down? What keeps you drier: running in the rain or walking through it? Can you really pull a tablecloth off of a fully set table without disturbing a dish? In this amazing hands-on exhibition, you can put these myths to the test—just as the team from the popular MythBusters TV show has done for years!

On display in our expanded upstairs galleries, the exhibition will overflow with hands-on props and gadgets from the show. The Fleet invites you to try your hand at busting some new myths, as well as some old favorites."

Yea I wish I would have known badge holders go to the front!

They had a lot of free treats (cookies, ice cream, water, pepsi) there last year and it was a good way to spend a few hours with a friend who didn't have a badge.

I *think* the article means, now that they have taken over the operation that badgeholders will have front of line privileges going forward, so 2018 on. Last year they didn't have this.

See the following, bold is mine:
"For experiences like last year’s It bus, which usually had a 3-4 hour wait, badge-holders would go to the front of the line.”

They usually give out the wristbands for ticket holders around 9am, then you don't have to back until afternoon, I think like 3?

I believe they started giving them out at 9 but depending on how far back you are in line it can take a while. We were at the friday show which is the one that ran out of tickets. Luckily I had been seeing that you needed to get in line early to have a chance of getting said tickets and getting out of the line at a decent time. I think we got in line at 7am and got our tickets by 10:30am. Had to be back around 3 or 4pm.

Standby got much harder to do last year and a bunch of people got locked out even with tickets on Saturday? People go just to get the pops now which makes it harder. I've been trying to get tickets since it started too :(

Comic con will email everyone when you can throw your name in the hat to hopefully win the Conan lottery. Just a website you put your info in, and then wait for an answer back. This forum will certainly have discussion threads that light up like a Christmas tree once those emails go out.

If you get selected, make sure you show up the morning of your showing to get your numbered “guaranteed entry” wristband for the showing later that day. People will line up early in the morning to get a low number wristband to sit closer to the stage.

There will also be a “standby” line next to, or mixed in with the lottery winners each morning. They hand out a limited number of numbered standby wristbands. Standby people show up for the afternoon shows and hope to get in for the no-shows/empty seats. (This is usually me)

I'm following several of the interactive marketing companies and though most are indicating that they will be at SDCC - they have not confirmed what they are bringing or who's property they are working on. Ex. Giant Spoon has indicated they are doing something for HBO, Granddesign is behind the redo at Petco.  Its just too early for them to generate solid buzz.  This was a banner year for interactive's at SXSW and the marketers are learning fast.  Our patience will surely be rewarded!

What is the best email list or twitter to follow to make sure I don't miss the Fandom party tickets?  That was probably my favorite party I went to last year and only got in thanks to help from a member here.

Zac Levi did a live stream last night and said Nerd HQ is still a "possibility" and he is looking at 2 venues right now. But he also emphasized its not a done deal yet and it could still not happen (similar to last year when they announced it and then had to recant later on) -  and he wasn't going to provide details until is/isn't.

So NerdHQ *might* be happening!

Wish NerdHQ would go back to it's roots.  Just book out jolt and joes and put some games in there both video and board.

Guessing there are alot factors in reserving a place for events. cause u not wanna affect business any do to any money loss or they charge alot to use place cause it during comic con so they try and make bank for giving u some space or any control of it for the days u wanna do anything. atleast he is trying and giving any updates where he knows he can say and not get everyone excited for it then have to cancel for any reason. so time will tell and more news will come out over time as to what can be done closer to con time.

Sixbucks! OMG I am laughing. I am a Starbucks loyalist and the funny thing is my coffees during SDCC generally cost me $6 because I add shots to my coffee.

Yes. I went about three years ago. I wasn't impressed. Organisation was all over the place. Couldn't heard a damn word because the music was too loud. Bar staff incredibly rude. Drinks options very poor. Also we paid for premium tickets which came with drinks tokens and exclusive swag bags, only to find the organisers giving out the exclusive swag in the Hall H line on the Sunday.

One more story from the event. We get there an hour after doors have opened and there is a line to get in. We get to the front and the bouncer asks for identification. I'm from the UK, we don't carry ID around plus I don't exactly look under 21. So he asks us to step to one side while he let's in other people. We speak to one of the organisers who said "If you don't have ID you don't get in." Now, it's a private party with people who are over the drinking age so why stop us going in? Eventually after sweet talking the bouncer he let us in after the line had been let in. We had to stand there like naughty children while everyone filed past.

I complained to them on Twitter the next day and they ignored me. Chose to retweet people who had a good time instead.

You were lucky they let you in. We have very strict laws and they could have been heavily fined. Even if it's clear as mud you are over 21, they still have to ID you.

Super bummer after waiting, the party was a flop.

I disagree with the criticism about Wayward Cocktails.  While it is sort of messily organized, I enjoyed the drinks and had no problem getting in because I had my ID (that's not really their fault. That's the law).  It's excellent for people who are deeply into the fandom to meet and mingle with other fandom people.  I stopped watching the show three years ago so I no longer go, but I enjoyed it when I did.  It was fun being able to meet so many people I'd only ever interacted with online.

They are talking about Rave of Thrones. You are talking about Middleditch & Schwartz (I think) :)

I'm going to split the Rave of Thrones chatter into the already existing thread momentarily. That is here: https://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/index.php?topic=9399.0

My hopes were up for a brief moment that I could still get into Rave of Thrones.  Looks like I might not be able to.  Seems the tickets went on sale at some point already and are sold out?

I need at least one good party this year.  Either a free party or, if it cost something, good perks with the admission.

Is this too off topic for this thread?  Should we have a nightlife specific thread?  I don't want to derail anything but I'm hunting for a party and I'm looking for recs lol.

My blog and a few others were going to try to throw a party on Preview Night.  It fell apart sadly because of venue cost.  But I'm kind of glad we didn't because that's a lot of competition out there yikes.  Hopefully we can pull stuff together for next year but NOT on preview night.

Sorta wonder if its due to this being in the middle of a work week which may mean a cheaper venue rate as opposed to say Fri/Sat which would be more expensive.

When we were looking for venues this was our issue.  It was an increase of about 20% if I recall (we were putting things together last fall so it's been a few months).  That's why we were opting for preview night.

I am SDCCBlog - We were here first on Wednesday nights! Ha. About five years ago when we started, we picked Wednesday nights because there was nothing going on, and we wanted to give people an alternative to Preview Night. Now though there's... maybe too much alternative? Wondering if everyone went, "I bet people will be most free on Wednesday night!" and it just totally backfired? It's almost funny at this point though.

I'm pretty okay with the variety on preview night versus the usual Thursday night smorgasbord! We used to skip out on PN in favor of Hop Con.. but now that they moved to Thursday we're happy there are alternatives

Walking Through an Undead Wonderland
Hosted by Zombie Walk: San Diego

Saturday, July 21 at 6:30 PM
Gaslamp Quarter

https://www.facebook.com/events/235978660269790/

To be a zombie participant, you have to pre-register.
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/walking-through-an-undead-wonderland-tickets-44945235409

"This year, the Zombiewalk will see a few changes in the way participants and observers experience our annual event...

The first change is that this won’t be our standard walk, where we meet in one location and shamble as one large group to an end point. Instead, participants will be split into multiple groups (hordes) and shamble to designated points throughout the Gaslamp Quarter, and then all hordes eventually will meet up (at a designated place and time) to walk as one, to an end point a short distance away. We’re hoping this keeps traffic to a minimum while also allowing more people to view the participating zombies (and for our zombies to show off their awesomeness to more spectators).

The second change is that participants will now need to register ahead of time. The event is still free, but pre-registering will allow us to manage the zombie hordes and assign horde leaders. If zombies would like to be in a horde with their friends/family, it is suggested they all register at the same time and/or select the same horde number when registering.

And the third change... we have a theme this year! We’ve done themes for some of our October walks in the past and they add an extra element of fun to the events. For Walking Through an Undead Wonderland, the theme will obviously be... the winter holidays. We’re encouraging participants to select their zombification style with that in mind. We’ll also be holding a costume contest with prizes & trophies for the winners.

Participants can register at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/walking-through-an-undead-wonderland-tickets-44945235409?aff=fb

Registration will be open until July 14th or until spots are full!"

Hey,

Has there been any info on the symphony? Don't they usually do something for the con? One year was Zelda and last year was John Williams (I think).

I've also been checking this thread for any info on any symphonies. I'm not very good at finding/figuring out events on my own. But I think in the past, the symphonies have always been announced pretty far in advance, so I'm guessing there isn't one this year.

Edit: and of course, right as I post that, I notice the John Williams concert thread way down near the bottom of this subforum.   ::)

The video from the official comic con blog said no Syfy live this year. I guess it looks like SDCC is cutting out all offsites that have panels within 2 miles of the con. I read on another page that Nerdist will not have their event either. Disappointing.

But yes, I was told no Syfy Live this year a few months ago. Things can always change, and I know they have a space reserved for SOMETHING, but it wasn't for that as of April.

Haha. I knew that too. Not sure why I typed official. My bad.

I wonder if SDCC is really making them stop or if it’s simply logistics. Either way, it’s disappointing. The offsites are just as enjoyable for me personally as the con itself. They all have their own unique vibe.

Cracking down on offsites is not a good way for SDCC to go.  Between the drama with NerdHQ, venue fees going through the roof, and major studios pulling out - they need all the offsite experiences they can get.

I stopped watching the show (not that it was bad, just lost interest) but that off site was AMAZING.  Free food and drink and swag everywhere. And easy to get, too. Just needed an email.  I fed myself for an entire day for free and got a shirt.  The shirt is way too small for me but I have it at least.

Fingers crossed for Netflix. Come ooooon Netflix. Not only do they have the Marvel properties but they have Stranger Things and a ton of other genre programming. Just looking at what's slated they have something called "The Innocents" which is described as a "supernatural fiction" show coming out in August.  There's also Disenchantment, which I've already heard a ton of buzz about.  There's also the Sabrina reboot and The Umbrella Academy.

Come ooon Netflix. Save the day here.

A few years ago Amazon heavily promoted Man in the High Castle, so they definitely have familiarity with SDCC.  So this is a strong possibility too.

It was already announced that Sony would be a offsite force this year.  The one solid thing is the Ghostbusters AR experience at Park Park.  It's my understanding that Park Park overall is getting a serious upgrade this year.

Amazon is also doing the Good Omens TV show, and I am hoping they go all out for it. I'm really, really hoping for a cool offsite (that will give me a free t-shirt). Along with Doctor Who, that's what I'm most excited for this year.

Oh my GOD I had forgotten about this. Which is a tragedy because Good Omens is my favorite book.  They've been filming for about 6 months at this point so there's a good chance they'll have something there.  I'M CRYIN

Brush up on your singing! Look up the lyrics to Time Warp! (Inside secret, they  know the music of Tetris!) The french fries are really good AND if you want "real" food, you can order from the menu next door at The Garage. I highly recommend the brunch. Cheap mimosa! You get a carafe of oj and a bottle of bubbly for something like $8!

I've been F5ing the sdccblog website but it doesn't seem to be that comprehensive compared to their twitter posts.  For example, I don't see the Mr. Mercedes offsite on their homepage, it's listed under events.  I even checked the offsites page and it's not there.  I shun all social media so I don't FB or Tweet.  I guess it's time to dust off those accounts.

Correct, we put a lot of offsites under just our offsites calendar. Best way to get updates for us is Twitter.

Is there a lag between when it gets put on the calendar versus when it gets tweeted?

Not really. We do sometimes add smaller events to the calendar that we don't tweet?

Yeah, I was trying to get tickets for a friend and it sold out instantly. I wonder if most of the tickets were allocated yesterday? However, I've been to the venue previously, and it is SUPER tiny. It could be that there were very few tickets to begin with. Best of luck to you on future events :)

All week long though, you can find Amazon at The Jack Ryan Experience, in a huge offsite that starts the corner of MLK & 1st and extending to the back adjacent parking lot.

Is that where the Blade Runner experience was last year?  I don't see an MLK road on the map.

It looks like it? I think it's the "MLK promenade" over by the Childrens Museum. You can see it on Google Maps but it's not a road, it's a walkway.

I also happened to be looking at my phone the second it posted. It says in the confirmation email tickets are non-transferrable and you must show ID and be 21.

But their twitter said they'll be giving out tickets so there is still hope!

I got a fandom ticket for me and one for a friend but I typed my friends email wrong! So I got a confirmation email but he didn’t. Does anyone know what the entry process was last year? Did you need to bring a copy of the confirmation email or do they just have your name on a list and verify your ID?

Contact them and let them know the correct details and see if they can resend the confirmation.

Last year, it was just checking your name on a list and your ID, no email print-out required.

Boom Howdy Announces ‘Castle Rock’ SDCC Scavenger Hunt

Quote

Boom Howdy is hosting our 3rd annual San Diego Comic-Con scavenger hunt ARG! In previous years we have had a blast bringing search parties together to “Find Will” for Stranger Things and hunting down Pennywise for “It.” This year we are digging into another Stephen King property with Hulu’s newest series ‘Castle Rock’ based around the mythology of King’s Universe!

The #CastleRockHunt will take place Thursday July 18th – Saturday July 20th around the convention center. Clues will be randomly dropped each day between 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM so be sure to follow us on Twitter and set your notifications to ding!

A designated location will be setup for “Castle Rock” and “Shawshank” – these will be two very important locations that participants can find “Cujo Coins” hidden in the area. You will redeem these “Cujo Coins” for a ‘Castle Rock’ Collector’s Case full of the prizes listed below.

Fans can follow [member=8224]boomhowdy[/member] and @CastleRockHunt on Twitter using the hashtag #CastleRockHunt to get clues and join the hunt. You can also find additional information to interact with on WelcomeToCastleRock.com COMING SOON.

PRIZES INCLUDE:

Castle Rock Collector’s Case

– If you have been obsessing over the trailers like we have at Boom Howdy you will notice a burning VHS tape on a wood stump. We don’t know what this means just yet but we do know it was a perfect opportunity to create a faux VHS design for the show that will be our Collector’s Case that will hold all of these goodies.

Boom Howdy SDCC Exclusive Castle Rock Trading Card Set

– Based on the fantastic key-art (seen above) from the show. We will be giving away a limited amount of sets at SDCC and 5 pairs online to users following the hunt at home!

Shawshank Correctional Facilities Bumper Sticker

– Seen in the trailer on the back of the car as it sinks into the water.

Cujo Dog Tags
– With so many call backs to the King universe one of them that was mentioned is Cujo. So we thought why not make a custom Cujo dog tag!

Boom Howdy Logo Stickers
– Take a pic with your sticker and tag us on Twitter to show us some #SDCC2018 love!

If you love what we do at Boom Howdy and want to see more activations based around your favorite shows please considering supporting us with a donation to our Patreon!

Happy hunting! We can’t wait to explore more of ‘Castle Rock’ together when the first 3 episodes drop on Hulu July 25th!

I haven't seen it mentioned yet but there were two Stargate Command offsites that went up today.  A meet and greet and a screening.  Both are sold out now.  I missed them even though my offsite bot was beeping at me.  I thought it was my pre-con shift bot again so I ignored it.  My phone has been beeping off the hook today.

I'm going to keep checking it.  Another event that sold out earlier this week opened up again briefly before selling out again.

Never fails. Happens ever year. I panic thinking there is a shortage of off sites till I'm overwhelmed with hard choices to make.  Then I get there and blow off all my plans and walk around aimlessly. It's a vicious cycle.

I wouldn't  hold my breath my breath on this one.  (See Nerd Night thread).  This link may have gone out in error.  The event usually sells out in 4-5 minutes, and the local NerdNight San Diego was supposed to get advance notice - which didn't happen.  Our reservations may not be honored, or they may make this a giant - first come, first serve.  Who - knows.

No, it doesn't seem fake. It appears as though a press RSVP or something similar was accidentally sent out as the general attendee ticket sign up. No malice, just error. We're not sure yet, though, so no harm in signing up just in case.

Yes the link is real. I got it as press just before Ublog posted it. It’s real but it wasn’t intended to be the official announcement.

Thanks for doing the legwork to figure that out for us -- it's greatly appreciated! What a total bummer. I hope they change their minds or hold some kind of contest or something beforehand.

Sounds like it was National Geographic's decision, not Nerd Nite's, so probably unlikely to change. Also sounded like too many folks had RSVP'd in the past and then not showed up, so they wanted to change the process. Basically: No one to blame but attendees for RSVPing to stuff they don't show up for, sadly.

Thanks Kerry for confirming.

I think they'll find that this year they'll have TONS of no-shows.  Even though I RSVPed there's no way I'm going to show up and stand in line for an event with unlimited RSVPs.  I mean, what's the point of having an RSVP???
Title: Re: SDCC 2018 offsite events
Post by: semigeekgirl on July 08, 2018, 08:36:50 PM
Exactly. If it's just first come first serve the RSVP is pointless. Might as well just take the first however-many that show up. It's also not indicitave of demand AT ALL since people will literally sign up for anything free during SDCC week.

Plus didn't some people say they had to wait to go in last year because the rooftop was at capacity? So it's not like they weren't getting enough attendees.

We had something going on earlier that night and showed up last year around 9:45-10 I think. There were maybe 15 people in line and we had to wait a little while to go up. I don't know how it was at the start but it didn't seem to have a participation problem last year. If they were concerned about no shows they could just raise the RSVP limit, but thid seems excessive.

Updated info on the Amazon Fire TV's "Fast Forward to the Future."

https://sdccblog.com/event/amazon-fire-tvs-fast-forward-to-the-future/2018-07-22/

The activation includes vignettes like the “Device Garden,” where antiquated technologies will be given a place to call home; a graveyard of sorts to commemorate devices we once knew and loved before they were overshadowed by newer, more user-friendly technologies. Hang out in the “Backyard Cinema Club,’ where you will be able to try the Fire TV Stick in a reimagined outdoor theater created from retired VHS tapes. As an homage to all the fan-favorite content available on Fire TV, you will also be able to take a stroll down “Fire TV Street,” where you can uncover hidden photo moments and surprises along the way. To top it all off, the reimagined neighborhood will dedicate a corner of the block to Comic-Con’s most prized-possession, HBO’s iconic Iron Throne.

After stepping through a 16 foot Fire TV home screen, you will enter the “Stress-Free Streaming” zone where you can unwind with some of your favorite shows. The silent streaming party will bring the Fire TV experience to life with immersive lounges inspired by hit shows from partners including Prime Video’s “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” and NBC’s “The Good Place.” In addition, you can recharge with readily available mobile chargers and a tempting selection of show-themed mocktails to sip on.

This is my good place.  ;D

I often wonder this.  Being open later would definitely get more foot traffic instead of competing against the con.  Maybe CCI puts limits on hours of operation?

I'm unsure on this one. On the one hand, its food and drinks, so what could go wrong! On the other hand, I'm confused...isn't it a kids game? But it's an adult only party, so will there be a decent turn out? I stumbled upon a forum for the game and a bunch of folks seemed to think there weren't that many adults that played the game. I guess I don't care either way, so long as the party is a good time!

What do y'all think?

Ready Player One experience at comic-con.  I tip my hat to Warner Bros for bringing this even though the movie has already released.  So far, it's my favorite movie of the year.  It's right on time for the blu-ray release which is a couple of days after comic-con releases.  HTC has also put out the call for developers to develop RPO VR content.

https://sdccblog.com/event/the-ready-player-one-experience/2018-07-19/

I don't know if it'll be similar to the RPO experience at SXSW.

THE GOOD PLACE OFF SITE!!!

https://sdccblog.com/2018/07/welcome-to-the-good-place-at-san-diego-comic-con-2018/

Welcome! Everything is fine.

NBC will be transforming downtown San Diego into The Good PlaceFrom IGN, complete with a replica foR the neighborhood from the show where cans can find all the perfect photo and video opportunities, as well as giveaways. , who broke the news, here’s a look at the rendering of the installation, which will be set up in the Gaslamp Square in front of the Hard Rock and Omni hotels:

The Good Place makeover extends even further, though, as Tin Fish will become “Good Plates”, with special menus and decor. And, 50% of sales off the special menu will actually go to No Kid Hungry, a charity aimed towards ending childhood hunger in America. You can pre-register for the experience starting Wednesday, July 11 by visiting www.thegoodplacesdcc.com, and you will receive a customized profile and wristband to get the most out of your visit.

This is my good place (until the panel that is). :D ;D 8)

Right?! I was not expecting this embarrassment of riches. I can finally make up for missing their panel & offsite two years ago.

Bummer about the food. But that's okay. Hopefully there's food referenced on the show. There's so many to choose room. I loved LOVED the Dance Dance Revolution episode.

They are even doing it weirder than Nerd Nite.  It opened then they ran out of tickets and they closed the registration.  Then a few hours later they reopened it again with 75 tickets and when those ran out they closed it again.  It's currently opened again with about 130 tickets.  I don't know if it's reopened and closed and how many times in the days in between.  Why don't they just leave it open instead of cycling between open and closed?

Just an FYI, my husband isn't into fish tacos, but he really likes the chicken tacos there. I don't think he has ever ordered fish at Tin Fish! LOL! Agreed on the always packed thing, but we usually go once per con. They seem to do decent turnaround without rushing you.

The venue is two stories, so that's possible.  I've only ever been to the bottom floor for the FoCC meet up so I have no idea how many people the top floor fits.  Bottom floor fits probably 100-150 sitting, but likely more if they move the tables and make it a dance party.

The Good Place Off-site registration was up briefly, you can’t register for a specific time, you just sign up to skip the day of registration times. You get an email with an activation code.

Edited to add: It’s up now here!

https://www.thegoodplacesdcc.com/Home/Signup (https://www.thegoodplacesdcc.com/Home/Signup)

Still doesn't let me register.

Nevermind, it is just slow. I got an email confirming.

Same here, I hit submit over and over and nothing on the page changed. I thought something was wrong. But then the confirmation email popped up so I guess I'm good.

There is a Manifest Lounge but I'm not sure if it's the same space.

Thursday, July 19-Sunday, July 22 at Hard Rock Hotel

NBC's new fall drama series "Manifest" will offer attendees a chance to relax, beat the heat and recharge their mobile devices with a Montego Airlines-branded lounge, located at the Hard Rock Hotel. The space will offer a custom oxygen bar, charging station and a chance to preview new content from the anticipated new fall show.

It was already announced that Sony would be a offsite force this year.  The one solid thing is the Ghostbusters AR experience at Park Park.  It's my understanding that Park Park overall is getting a serious upgrade this year.

grandesignmedia Sony Pictures Entertainment’s “Ghostbusters World” — in collaboration with Ghost Corps, the game’s publisher FourThirtyThree Inc. (4:33) and developer NextAge —invites attendees to experience the new augmented reality game for smartphones at its first public demo. While attendees wait their turn in line for the first chance to battle and capture the ghosts populating The Experience, they can try on authentic Ghostbusters costumes, pose with the original Ecto-1 and awe at the towering Stay Puft Marshmallow Man!

Typo on my part. But either way, the name has changed multiple times. Petco Interactive Zone last year. Then it was going to be The Experience at Comic-Con this year. Now it's just "The Experience".

Predator is still in post-production and is going for an R rating so that can't be it.

Ok I didn't think that'd be pg-13 but the cast was going to be there so I was thinking someone already coming. It says clips not the whole movie. Even if they're filming they'd have some footage in post.

Highly doubt it’s predator because they could really use the screening at sdcc as a great publicity event just as they did with the Star Trek screening a couple years ago. Also it does say that the movie is expected to be pg-13 which does not match the predator

Looking at an upcoming slate of movies for 20th Century Fox, I'd pin it as "The Darkest Minds" which has a release date of Aug 3 and is rated PG-13. Anything else is too far out, rated R or outside of possible scope of SDCC (ie oscar bait).

The Purge City activation was fantastic and for me was well worth the 3 hour wait.  Once inside, fans were given $20 Purge bucks to spend on a variety of exclusive swag.  For $3 Purge bucks I bought a copy of the 28th amendment, 15 got me a T shirt, and 2 bought a magnetic Purge bumper sticker.  There were masks on display, Purge stain removers, 12 hour candles, hats, pins, Purge cards, etc.  This activation was everything a fan of the movies wanted: a real world experience that matched the ip.

I got almost the same, I got two pins instead of the bumper stickers.  I really wanted the candles but they were so heavy.  I didn't want to carry them around the rest of the day.  I thought about getting just the t-shirt and keeping one of the $5 bills instead.  Did you stick around for the demonstration, that was awesome.  Things like that were the best part of it for me, not the swag.  It was the build and the actors.  Particularly the actors.

Got in line around 10am, got out at about 1:20pm.  An hour of that wait was because they didn't open until 11am.  As usual had to deal with linecutters.  This older woman in pink swept in to pretend she was part of my group as we entered the door.  I said loudly "That person in pink was not in line."  The Purge store security came over and told her to leave.  She gave the standard response, "Is there a line?".  Jake, the main actor while you are standing in line came over and thanked me for helping with the Purge.  Full props to them for dealing when a linecutter.  Too many store, offsite and booth officials just let it slide.

No, I didn’t want to miss the Purge panel later that day and I was so hot.  So I raced over to the convention center.  What was it?  Glad they dealt with the line cutters.

We also waited 3 hours for the Purge yesterday, but had a blast! The ‘store employee’ in line was awesome and funny! We got lots of t-shirts and other things. I loved the aspect of shopping for your own swag!

The guy in front of us was being obnoxiously self-righteous about people moving through the line (usually because they left to go to the bathroom or get food) and blocking their path and yelling at them about line-cutters. Then he would rant at those of us behind him about linecutters. My husband wanted to join us in line about an hour in, but I was honestly scared of how this guy would react, so I waved him away. But then, with 30 minutes to go in the line, Mr. Self-Righteous scammed his way into the ADA line in the back of the building! Those of us who had been around him just laughed ourselves sick at his obviously flexible line morals. Then my husband showed up with bags of candy (Deadpool gummies) from the Omni VR exhibit and handed them out, and everyone around us was happy for him to join us.

Con karma... it is real. ;)

Since we didn't have Thursday passes, we did a lot of off sites on that day, including Purge City. By the sounds of it, this was a smart thing to do. We got in line around 10:30 or so and the line was just inside petco (right by the accessible entrance). We waited maybe another half hour after the doors opened to go in and were out before noon. It was fun and well crafted and the freebies were great. I really like that there was a large selection of swag so you could really choose something that you wanted rather than have something they were getting rid of. I believe this is always part of the reason the lines were so incredibly long though. Too much choice can be a bad thing and lead to people becoming incredibly indecisive and just milling around inside the building rather than completing a purchase and allowing someone else in.

We walked by it the Friday around the same time and the line was 3-4x as long.

Then my husband showed up with bags of candy (Deadpool gummies) from the Omni VR exhibit and handed them out, and everyone around us was happy for him to join us.

About 10:30am, two kids came to the front of that Disneyland line with about 4 boxes of those Deadpool gummies.  The older girl started tossing them into the crowd.  The younger boy walked the line and handed them out.  I was wondering if they worked for the Purge or not.  So that's what happened.  7-11 gave away the rest of their Deadpool gummies.

Also, did the 7-11 people give anyone else the Deadpool Slurpie cup.  When I was up there on Thursday, the table had all the Deadpool gummies on it but I chatted with the dudes there for a while and one of the guys reached under the table and gave me a Deadpool Slurpie cup for being so nice.  Did they end up putting those on the table?

"Jake", the actor working the line was good.  I especially loved his voice.  He got that perfect.

No, I didn’t want to miss the Purge panel later that day and I was so hot.  So I raced over to the convention center.  What was it?  Glad they dealt with the line cutters.

It was a parody of those Oxy clean commercials.  But the actors were good and the two volunteers from the crowd also played along really well.

This was mainly an offsite year for me, I spent 3 out of 4 of the main comic-con days(Thurs-Sun) at offsites.  I even did a volunteer shift on one of those 3 days but other than walk through the exhibit hall to get to the other side of the convention center to get to my shift at the end of the day with a stop for WB swag, I spent the rest of the day at offsites.

Taco Bell, The Purge Store, Sacred Lies and Laika were all good.  But overall I liked Nerdist House the most.  It's a slow burn.  There was not an acute this awesome moment.  But through the hours, Nerdist House pulled it off.  The tastefully done space, the great staff, the free food, the free water, the open bar and the panels all made it stand out.  The goal was to have a Wired Cafe experience for the masses.  They succeeded.

At times it was, at times it wasn't.  They even ran out of bottles of water.

I just dug through my swag, I wish I had double or triple dipped at the Purge Store.  That's good quality swag.  USA buys good shirts.  I'm still wearing my original Mr. Robot shirt from 4 years ago.  I wear and wash it once a week.  It's still in good shape.  I actually wear the t-shirts I get at comic-con as my everyday clothes.

I thought that everyone that only go to the offsites are locals.  Sure, some people come down from LA but that's still pretty local.  Last Friday I met two people who flew in from other parts of the country just to go to the offsites for the 4 days.  They go through everything all out of town people do such as the hotel scramble, they just don't go to the actual con at the convention center.  They've been doing this for years.

On Wednesday night they had vanilla creme cookies, bottles of water, chips, gummies, peanuts, etc. it was literally a mini 7-Eleven there. Also apparently they didn't care if you had badges or not for Preview Night so you could've just walked in, do the demos, and take the food. It was pretty great.

They did.  That was why I was hoping it would be like that for all the con.

Sounds like the Omni VR Exhibit is the place to be if you don't have PN!

Oh yeah the Overwatch booth gave away pins if you took pics! Speaking of which, it's super crazy how small that line was. Apparently there was a 2 hour wait when the booth was at AX but when I went by the booth throughout SDCC, the line was consistently small.

Anyways, I actually like the offsite set up in the Omni. It wasn't too crowded and the exhibits themselves are so fun, especially if you're into VR!

Do offsites always close when con closes up for the night? My wife and I were very surprised and disappointed that when we left after last panels of the day that all offsites were closed (exception being Taco Bell...kinda) It makes no sense to us.

I thought that booth was really well done. They had a separate line for Overwatch cosplayers but the general line was pretty fast for us as well and the people who ran the booth were great.

A lot do, but there are the various parties and movie screenings that are later in the day.

I was surprised at how quickly the tear-down starts on Sunday. SDCC ended at 5pm and by 5:30 the installations outside the Bayfront were already well on their way to being disassembled.

Not all of them.  It also depends on what time you are thinking of.  The experience booths stayed open until 7pm.  After that they showed movies on the big screen well into the night.  The Star Trek Discovery offsite stayed open until 9pm I think.  The last Teamcoco show wasn't until 11pm.  And of course the offsite parties went until 1am or later.

I believe Adult Swim was open until 2 am?

We went to the FXhibition at 2:05 pm on Sunday, only to be told that they had closed at 2 pm. That's why teardown was so far along when you saw it, Mark.

This was my 5th year going and first year doing offsites. I only walked the floor for a bit on Friday to get the free deadpool T shirt. Saturday was all offsites for me and I had fun! didn't even walked into the convention center lol Conan was the MVP for offsites this year with teamcoco house giving attendees and non attendees a chance to see him and get a pop if they didn't get tickets to his show ;)

That makes sense. it was my first time being in the gaslamp Sunday night and Monday. Was a bit sad seeing everything being taken down.

A lot of the offsites have to get out in a hurry, especially the ones on public spaces like the parking lot.  Also the convention center or the Marriot can go back to back with conventions.  I didn't see it happening this year, but last year in the Marriot they had already taken down the comic-con signage and put up the next conference signage by Sunday afternoon.  Places that rent out private space can probably take more time to break down.  Is the Laika offsite still there?  Not opened, I know it closed on Sunday but are the displays still there?

Speaking of which, I think Laika stayed open until 9pm but the line was probably capped hours earlier.

We did the Overwatch thing on Preview Night and it was so empty that the guy doing press check-in let us through using him, basically letting us cut the line (which was maybe 10 people (with maybe 3-4 groups total) so it's not like it was a huge skip).

The whole tech pavilion seemed muted this year which upset me because I've loved it so much in recent years. Last year was awesome with the two 3d domes (think the meatwad dome but showing something else) that you could just chill out in. This year was littered with bitcoin peddlers and didn't even look to fill out the whole room like previous years.

I really wish I could have made more time to check out these off sites, but with the full schedule that I had, there simply was not enough time to walk out there, wait, do the offsite and then come back to do what I wanted to do at the con.  I've always thought that if I somehow do not get all the days, that day is going to be spent at the off sites only.

Also, I do wish, as others have said these off sites consider staying open later.
