The John Byrne’s X-Men Artifact Edition, in the tradition of the company’s award-winning Artifact Editions and Artist’s Editions, will feature more than 100 pages of “covers, splashes and pages” from across Byrne’s run on X-Men, scanned from the original black-and-white art and published in a 12-inch by 17-inch format to mimic the dimensions of actual art boards.

What's the opinion on these?  I almost picked up the Frank Miller Dark Knight Returns one but never did...

I **love** them
I love the full page format- 11*17, really can see the work- it’s the closest I ever be to owning the original art.

Tate a look at eBay- they seem to hold there value, or so, I’ll post a pic of my collection in a bit

I got the Miller dark night one ;)

I love these as well, my only complaint would be how to store them, some of them are huge. I think [member=1]alyssa[/member] is right, there's got to be a special version of this for sdcc, really hoping there will be one for the Starlin book, even though that comes out in this month.

Hmmm...a special Gallery Edition of his Dreadstar stuff...that'd be killer.

Nice! Beats my towering piles of oversized books. Some of my books are in the 22x16 inch range too.

Keep an eye out for the Starlin art book being republished by Aftershock comics in May. I think the IDW one will just be Marvel stuff. (I'm a big Dreadstar fan too.)

It's hard to describe how awesome these books are, part of it is you can really see how incredible some of the artwork is, with all of these details that you can't really see in the final product. Part of it too is the behind-the-scenes aspect, since you can see notes, little fixes, etc. Another plus is that IDW often has the artists there at SDCC for signings.

Saw a report from the Wondercon panel where they announced the Starlin "Cosmic Edition" would have a special, signed version at SDCC.

Deal! This is the article, has a few more tidbits in it You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

There will also be an SDCC edition of Joe Jusko’s Marvel Masterpieces, and he will be one of IDW's guests. Unfortunately, the mention of John Byrne’s X-Men Artifact Edition is accompanied with a picture of Sienkiewicz's Mutants and Moon Knights artifact edition. (Which of course I also will want.)

/gulp/

from the article
Quote
Next up were the Artist’s Editions. First Dunbier shared Jim Starlin‘s Marvel Cosmic Artifact Edition. Every page in the book will be from Starlin’s work on Captain Marvel, Warlock, The Avengers, and Marvel Two-in-One Annual 2. The book is scheduled for release in April 2018, with a signed limited edition being available at SDCC this year.

Dunbier then discussed another Artist’s Edition from Jack Kirby. Kirby has had, from my count, eight releases to date, and Dunbier shared some images from the upcoming ninth, Jack Kirby’s Marvel Heroes and Monsters Artist’s Edition. The book will feature Captain America on the regular edition cover and will have two variant covers, but Dunbier only shared the one with Fin Fang Foom.

Next was John Byrne’s X-Men Artifact Edition. Scheduled for release in July, the book will only include Byrne’s work on X-Men from issues 108-143, except it will also include the wrap around cover from Phoenix: The Untold Story issue one.

The last big announcement, previously shared here, was the upcoming Jim Lee DC Legends Artifact Edition. Dunbier shared a video of Jim Lee himself talking about this upcoming release. Featuring splash pages, covers, and panels from Lee’s long run at DC Comics, the book will be 12×18 and will come out in September 2018.

so probably  2 new AA's for SDCC, Byrne's X-men and Starlin‘s Cosmic book......
$200-300 set aside for idw

I will say- i am very very glad i've kept all teh boxes my AA's came in- they make transporting and putting them into storage so easy!

Mutants and Moon Knights will make it into the collection..... eventually

I forget where I heard about the new printing, I completely missed the original one but tbh I would rather have the Dreadstar cover than the Breed one. Supposed to be released in a week!

Haven't been able to find anything else out about IDW yet :(

This arrived unexpectedly today. Think I had preordered it late last year.

This is where I hit a button on my (imaginary) intercom and say to my (also imaginary) assistant

"Clear my schedule."
