Overall I was impressed on many fronts. Great choice in companion, nice monster (unique as well), different approach to The Doctor's portrayal. Everything I wanted and more.

Great review and completely agree, thought it was a really strong episode.

How are you guys liking this season? So far, I think its meh. I love Matt Lucas' Nardole but I am really not feeling Bill. She's kind of getting on my nerves. I kind of felt the same way about Clara after Danny Pink died. It seems that the characters are really reaching for something emotional from the audience, but it falls short. I feels like something is missing in this season. I don't want to seem like a complaining grouch, but man, really missing the spark from other companions like Amy and Donna!

Thoughts?

I am enjoying this season. Capaldi is hitting the mark and Bill is a great addition.

Matt Lucas really has not done much for me since his scenes are limited but we will see.

The stories are unique and not boilerplate. This upcoming week should be exciting and of course a new monster to be afraid of.

Each year it seems Capaldi plays the Doctor differently and I like him this year as he is gravitating towards a kinder 'teacher' type --- for now.

ZOMG. I was pretty surprised when they showed Susan's picture on the desk this season, been wondering where they were going with that.

That's funny, I think I am totally on the other side (except for Donna, best companion ever imho.)  I really like the chemistry between Bill and Twelve and think it's been a really strong season so far. I especially like the writing in the emoji robot episode with the multiple twist ending.

My family hates this, but I am wont to go around the house pontificating in a mediocre yet enthusiastic Scottish accent, so the line "I'm not Scottish, I'm just cross!" has been a welcome addition.

Seems like Attack the Block was a good launching platform for actors :)

What did everyone think of the Xmas special?

Here is a link to my article leading up to the episode.

I asked my daughter what she thought of the new Doctor and she replied, "She wasn't in it much. All she did was fall down and out of the TARDIS.'

My husband added 'The TARDIS expelled her like projectile vomit.'

Doesn't sound like an auspicious beginning....  :P

It was okay. I’m ready for a change and looking forward to seeing what the new show runner comes up with.

I had one issue with the episode. The Doctor is a time traveler so all versions of him should be familiar with many different time periods. Makes no sense that the first doctor would be stuck in a 1960s (human) mindset.
