Thank you for the donation, [member=1732]SamTurtledove[/member]!

Yes, but you will have to make the changes to the settings in your PayPal account (not on the forum).

Here are the steps for reference (if I recall correctly):

Just made a donation through PayPal. You guys are so amazing for maintaining this site. It helped me get a hotel room at SDCC last year and I can't believe it took me this long to get around to giving back!

Thank you for your donation and support, [member=2742]spritegirl24_7[/member]!  It's greatly appreciated, and I'm glad you were able to get a hotel room at SDCC last year through our exchange.

Here's hoping for some good luck for the hotel lottery on Tuesday (so that you can participate in the exchange and help another forum member too)!

Any preference on Patreon vs. Account Setting/Subscription vs. PayPal?  (i.e. which one results in the least fees/biggest bang for our buck?)

If it were me, I'd personally go with one of the options that includes an incentive.  I think those are the ones that are the most bang for your buck, so to speak, but truthfully, it really depends on what you're interested in or what you're looking for.  There are several donation methods, just it's up to you on what you think works best.

I'll do my best to explain the different options and methods below.  It's a bit lengthy, but perhaps this will help you decide.  (I've included them in a spoiler tag so that this post won't look like giant wall of text, ha ha.)

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Hope this helps!  Thank you for your consideration!

Thanks for the explanation Zero.  The "biggest bang for our buck" was actually re whether the Forum is charged greater fees on one platform vs. the other but since that does not seem to be an issue, I'll just keep sending random donations throughout the year via PayPal like I usually do.  O0

Ah, I apologize for the misunderstanding.

If you use your debit card or credit card to add funds to your PayPal account when you make the donation, PayPal charges the recipient $0.30 (and takes 2.9% of the transfer amount, if I recall correctly).

If you transfer funds from your debit card (or bank account) and keep a balance of money in your "Wallet" on your PayPal account, then I believe they won't charge you any fees when sending money (meaning the forum gets all of it without having to pay any PayPal fees).

Here's the information about fees on PayPal.  In our case, scroll down to the "Sending money" part at the bottom.

(From PayPal's website, linked above)
PayPal balance or bank account: Free when sending money inside the US

Debit/credit card fee: 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction

Outside the US: 0% to 2% fee when fully funded with your bank account or PayPal balance or 2.9% to 5.99% plus a fixed fee based on the payment currency if paying with a credit or debit card

I'll need to re-check if there are any fees for Patreon if you use the credit card payment method versus the PayPal payment method on there.  I don't recall off the bat, unfortunately.

Hope that helps, and thank you for thinking of us and donating!

Meeting Alyssa and crew at the con was worth it's weight in gold for me.  Wish there were more local Cosplayers but I've joined some FB groups also.

So when you do the annual for $40 through the subscription portal, when do the ads go away?

Thanks again for organizing such a great community.
