Comic Con is coming to the world's largest country -- and for comic fans there, it's about time.

Convention company ReedPOP announced Wednesday morning that it was expanding it's line of annual comic conventions with the launching of Shanghai Comic Convention. Scheduled to take place May 16 and 17, Shanghai Comic Convention will take place at the Shanghai Convention & Exhibition Center of International Sourcing.

“China is a massive frontier for ReedPOP, a huge market and boundless community of fans that we are eager and enthusiastic to build events for,” said Lance Fensterman, Global Senior Vice President of ReedPOP, in the announcement. “This is a huge opportunity for the millions of fans in the country who haven’t experienced a ReedPOP event and we can’t wait to see how they respond. Geekdom is a universal language and we’re sure that the Chinese people will celebrate fan culture in their own unique and amazing ways.”

ReedPOP entered the comic convention market in 2006 with the launch of New York Comic Con, and quickly expanded with C2E2 in Chicago. ReedPOP recently acquired Seattle's Emerald City Comic Con, and had eight other annual conventions including ones planned in Mumbia, Delhi, Australia and Paris.
