NYCC: 7 Train Extension to the Javits
« on: January 17, 2015, 03:23:32 AM »
There have been delays. But it's now scheduled to be open during the second quarter of this year.  Between April to June I assume.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority now says the 7 train line extension to the West Side will open in the second quarter of this year.

The opening has been pushed back time several times.

This time around, testing issues with elevators and escalators inside the new station at 34th Street and 11th Avenue is to blame.

MTA officials say the new station will help serve the West Side's redevelopment and provide better access to the Jacob Javits Center.

Finally! I only wish Christie hadn't killed them from extending the 7 all the way to Hoboken. That would've been heaven for me.

I can't wait! I'm always too impatient to wait for the bus so I walk every time to or from the end of the 7 line.

It's certainly going to be more convenient than having to wait for a bus, but it won't be as convenient as it could have been.  I recently read that the main entrance to the station will not be facing Javits Center, but will instead be on 34th Street, roughly between 10th and 11th Avenues.  I suppose I shouldn't complain because this is still going to be something new, but when your feet are killing you after a day of conventioneering, every step matters.

Hooray! It was not a lot of fun walking back from BookCon on Sunday to Penn Station in the pouring rain.

I commute using the 7-Train everyday; and from my experience it usually doesn't run on the weekend. So even if it does get extended to the Javits, don't expect it to work efficiently, or runs on the weekend.

You can still, however, take the bus to the Javits, from various Subway entrance;I'm surprised not many people have chosen that option.

The 7 line hasn't been running on the weekends cause Super storm sandy took damaged most of the electrical components in the under river tunnel, they also are working on making the 7  line automated.

I was at BookCon at the Javit this past Sunday and I snapped a photo of a construction sign. Notice how it says that the project is scheduled to be completed by December 2015. I guess that's to trick tourists like me into thinking that the city is a model of efficiency and that things are moving ahead of schedule. ;D
