Anyone have any interesting pre-badge sale rituals?
« on: November 07, 2018, 01:00:49 PM »
Anyone have any interesting pre-badge sale rituals they'd like to share? Do you wear your underwear inside-out, or eat the same meal every year the night before? I don't really have any myself, but I will say this is the first year my stress level isn't through the roof.

Fun topic!

I don't really have any rituals, unless you consider being really cranky a ritual  ;D

I eat about 14 pounds of food ahead of time as I burn a lot of calories during the sale.

I wear a Comic-Con shirt. I may play the song that was playing when I got in during Returning Reg, just for fun.

Pre-sale - minimal sleep from excitement/nervousness
Post-sale - go out for a nice lunch

I do this, too! Gotta put on the right threads for the sale so the Comic-Con Gods take notice.

Pre-sale: A Dunkin' Donuts large coffee (half regular/half decaf) and 2, maybe 3 donuts...
Post-sale: Head out for a celebratory lunch which includes an adult beverage of some kind, preferably a nice craft DIPA.

Chai tea from Starbucks and banana bread. Usually have my Outlander mug next to the computer. Since last year open reg my group of friends have a call on messenger. Before that we would text, the call is so much easier.

This will be my first sale since moving from Hawaii. I was used to waking up at 4am for the sale so only ritual was dragging myself out of bed.  Well I do always tune into the sdccblog live podcast during the sale :)

The last several years Pre-Reg has been during one of my marching band rehearsal mornings, so my 'ritual' has been:
*get to work a bit early
*make sure there is a plethora of coffee (that's not really exclusive to Registration)
* log on to my computer in the band room so I can monitor sales from my vantage point
*log into my Buying Group spreadsheet
*stay in contact with my wife who is manning at least four other devices in our condo
*use an old iPad (that I don't feel is reliable enough for sales) to monitor Buying Group activity
*run rehearsal while constantly monitoring both my computer screen & iPhone for my wife's messages/updates
*when I get into the buying room, immediately "decide" it's time for a water break during rehearsal
*move from the podium to the computer with cat-like stealth
*buy badge
*celebrate with students

For Open Reg (until this weekend) which has been after marching band season:
*wake up around 7/7:30 at the latest (I have a toddler, so the chances of sleeping that late on a Sat. are slim anyway)
*make coffee
*make breakfast (or my wife makes breakfast because she's amazing like that)
*log in to roughly half a dozen devices
*sit back and watch the sales unfold while myself, wife, and teenage son being the 'race' to see 1) who gets in first and 2) who's bumper messages get updated first.  It's a pleasant game that cuts the tension slightly
*after securing badges, I take my son out for doughnuts to celebrate

I have rehearsal again this Saturday, so it'll be closer to Pre-Reg ritual this year.

My tradition, at this point, is not sleeping at all the night before. It started out of pure nerves, but now I'm not too nervous to not sleep the night before (just the half hour before and during the sale now.) But I still don't sleep because it's tradition. I think the more sleep deprived I am, the better the sale/lottery/etc. go.

When I was in Uni, it'd order food for delivery early in the morning, and then regret eating because I was so nervous.

Badger my group for information sorted by a google form that spits into a spreadsheet. From there, I sort info into groups etc. prepare all of the codes, prepare extra computers if needed, and badger my friends some more.
