A friend is bringing their 7 year old son. Do they need to have any proof of age when they register him?

We didn’t last year.  We just went up on Wednesday afternoon and picked up her badge.  They asked for our badge, her age, name etc...  I did have her BC in case but didn’t need it.

I never needed proof of age when my children were that young. The only time I needed anything was when they were 13 (but had been 12 at the cutoff date)  and were starting to mature. 7 years old should be no problem!

As long as they are under 12 I believe they won’t ask for any identification. We have gone the past two years and never been asked for any identification. My son was 7 for our first comic con adventure.

I've been taking my now 16 year old son since he was 2 or 3, as well as his friend who is a year younger.  I've NEVER had to furnish ANY type of ID, proof of age, etc.  As my kid and his friend got older the person who 'checked them in' at registration in Sales would ask how old they are and maybe when their birthday is (my son turned 14 after the arbitrary date), but it was never more than that.  Even last year, when my kid had to pay for the first year and his friend was on his last year of free child's badge all they asked was age/birthday: zero other information asked (other than, of course, who the guardian is and contact info in case of separation).

Shouldn't be any worries for your friend

We almost never were asked for an ID for our kids. But there was one time that we did get asked - my son was on his final year of getting a free pass. We didn't have an ID for him and I just told them that. She said something about a school ID and I said, no - he's homeschooled (which he was). Honestly, I don't think she was even supposed to ask, but he's tall for his age and I think she decided to just do it on her own.

Thanks.

One more question.  My friend has Saturday and Sunday badges, her husband has both and also a Friday badge.  Their plan is to spend Friday at the beach or swimming and then go to the con on the weekends while her husband gets "big boy time" by himself on Friday.  Does her son need to be there on Friday to get registered or can he register him separately?

The son can be registered at any time. Just bring him up to the Sails on his first day there.

What about babies less than 1 year old?  Do we need to register them?

Yes. I have seen babies before with badges. Usually people just tie them around the edge of the stroller. ;)

You don't have to register the baby for a member ID, but, I'm fairly certain you would need to "register" for the child badge when you arrive at the convention center (since the policy is children 12 and under).

2017 SDCC Child Badge Policy was

Child Badge Policy

Children (age 12 and under) are free with a paying adult! Children do not need to register for a Comic-Con Member ID to receive a complimentary badge. You may register two children per paid adult attendee. Adults will be required to provide emergency contact information for any child registrant. Please visit the Attendee Registration Area when you arrive onsite for more information.

To accommodate the transition from child to junior (age 13-17), we have set a static date to determine who is considered a child for Comic-Con 2018. If you are age 12 or under on September 30, 2017, you do not need to buy a badge for Comic-Con 2018. You may attend as a child, with a paying adult. If you are age 13 or older on September 30, 2017, you must create a Comic-Con Member ID and purchase a badge for Comic-Con 2018.

Comic-Con 2018 Child-to-Junior Badge Validation

The child-to-junior validation period is now closed. The deadline to validate your Comic-Con 2017 child badge for Returning Registration eligibility was October 6, 2017. If you missed the validation deadline, you may still be eligible to participate in Comic-Con 2018 Open Registration.

I saw that limit for Child badges this year.  Any parents or adults have Child Registration issues this year?
