Yea!  I really liked it at the Children's Museum.  I don't remember going last year, but in 2015 it was real fun

I found some information about the next Heroes Brew Craft Beer Fest--
(https://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic1.squarespace.com%2Fstatic%2F519d22fde4b0f5d1146af190%2Ft%2F58c34afcbe659451377941da%2F1489435783896%2F%3Fformat%3D1500w&hash=0e1ced7e5c49d4166585a1c29d7dfc3037263c92)

It looks like it will be back at the Waterfront Park.
Granted, the website still has a lot of old info from last year and needs to be updated, but it does state "San Diego's Waterfront Park transforms into a Craft Beer Comic Book Saturday, July 22nd" and "Tickets go on sale soon!" and "Stay Tuned!".

I guess this qualifies as off-site news, at least for next year--  :)

"Gaslamp goes Hollywood with multiplex upgrade"

"The Gaslamp promises to go Hollywood, inspired by the legendary Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, with a multimillion-dollar rebooting of a 15-screen multiplex that went dark a year ago.

Interior demolition has begun on the former Pacific and Reading cinema building at Fifth Avenue and G Street to prepare for an upscale eight-screen replacement, paired with a Landshark Bar & Grill by Jimmy Buffett and a celebrity-driven Sugar Factory restaurant, lounge and candy store.

“We’re innovators and feel the theater business has to go to a different level,” said the project’s developer, Elie Samaha. “What we’re trying to do is create a new experience for people to come into downtown.”

Samaha is a film producer and part-owner in the TCL Chinese Theatre (Grauman’s Chinese in Hollywood, opened in 1927), where star-studded premieres are held and tourists worship at the foot- and handprints of celebs embedded in the pavement.

He said the “Theatre Box” project will open by year’s end and host film festivals, Comic-Con screenings and countless birthdays, bachelorette parties and nights on the town."

Warner Brothers always has a screening. Maybe Annabelle 2?

What about The Dark Tower? That would be cool.

Normally I put a list of movies together so I looked through and just decided to do it now :P.

Valerian
Dunkirk
Atomic Blonde
Emoji Movie (pls god no)
Annabelle 2
Nut Job 2
Baby Driver

Panels make sense but prolly too far away for showings:
Kingsman 2
Lego Ninjago
IT reboot
Blade Runner 2049
My Little Pony
Justice League
Thor: Ragnarok (D23 so prolly not)
Coco (D23 so prolly not)
Star Wars: The Last Jedi (D23 so prolly not)
Jumanji reboot
Maze Runner: The Death Cure
The Predator
Black Panther (D23 so prolly not)
Pacific Rim: Uprising
Deadpool 2
Wreck it Ralph 2 (D23 so prolly not)
Tomb Raider
Ready Player One.

That takes us to March 2018... there could be other movies but there's plenty in there for a very solid SDCC this year.

With all of the delays and back and forths with the Dark Tower I had completely forgotten about it. If I had to choose I would still vote Valerian, since it still predates even the first draft of The Gunslinger. (But The Dark Tower would still be awesome.)

I don't think Dunkirk will be shown beforehand as it comes out the weekend of SDCC.

I'd place money on Annabelle 2 making an appearance though.
Also because Baby Driver has already screened in the US, I'd say there is a good chance for that as well.
It will be too early for the Kingsman 2.

You're prolly correct about Dunkirk.  The only reason I put it up there was because Interstellar came a few years back, and since WB always has a huge presence, maaaaaaaybe they try to sneak in a screening on Thursday night.

How much have they even filmed for Dark Tower?  For some reason I thought that was still in the earlier stages of production.  I may just be out of the loop.

Also, I've read at least a dozen Stephen King books, but not that series.  I should maybe fix that before it comes out.

But looking at the film list, please oh please oh please bring Pacific Rim.  PLEASE.  If there is an SDCC God please grant this wish.

They finished filming last July but it's been in post-production. It was originally supposed to release this Feb but they pushed it to July 28th.

It's good to go into the DT series having read lots of other King books, won't give away much but many characters from other stories find their way into the series.

You will definitely get more out of the DT series if you have read a lot of Kings works prior.  They will stand alone just fine, but when you know how many different story lines he manages to tie together, it is mind blowing!  It's almost like he sat down in the 70's and planned it all out for the next 30 years, LOL

It was just a party until last year when they had it open all day because of the new movie coming out. They usually have an Ecto1 and stuff for kids/families during the day. Then around 7pm its the adult party. It is always packed because Werewolf is tiny. They have a lot of giveaways (mainly Ghostbusters stuff) but not till later in the evening. I was able to go last year only because my friends and I did the new GB cosplay and I am friendly with the guy who runs TB Ghostbusters and got on the list.

(https://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic1.squarespace.com%2Fstatic%2F519d22fde4b0f5d1146af190%2Ft%2F58c34afcbe659451377941da%2F1489435783896%2F%3Fformat%3D1500w&hash=0e1ced7e5c49d4166585a1c29d7dfc3037263c92)

It looks like it will be back at the Waterfront Park.
Granted, the website still has a lot of old info from last year and needs to be updated, but it does state "San Diego's Waterfront Park transforms into a Craft Beer Comic Book Saturday, July 22nd" and "Tickets go on sale soon!" and "Stay Tuned!".
http://heroesbrewfest.com/

So they finally updated their site--
http://heroesbrewfest.com/

"Tickets on Sale Tuesday, May 2nd at 10am. 1st 50 ticket purchasers will be upgraded
to the unlimited tasters portion of the event for FREE - a $30 value!"

Tickets start at $20. I can't find a link for ticket purchase, but it looks like you can sign up "to be a hero" and will receive the link that way.

Hodor is going to be there!

Great question. I can't think of anything off hand, except for the things they set up right outside SDCC and just over the pedestrian bridge. Most of the things that will be announced this early and require tickets will be more grown-up oriented, but there will be a lot more offsites announced. There are also usually some activities inside the con itself, like a scavenger hunt.

Keep an eye out for the San Diego Central library which is a block from Petco park. They usually have some special program that is very Kid-friendly and FREE

The Hall H line isn’t really an offsite — but… I've seen people make it into a great family experience. I met a man and his son one year.  They spent their time treating the line like a Boy Scout camping trip and thinking of stellar questions for the son to ask the panels.  He asked Ryan Reynolds what it was like the first time he said the Green Hornet oath and was rewarded with being taken back stage afterwards to meet Reynolds and pose with photographers.  It was the first time Reynolds had publicly said the oath.  A few years later I saw the same kid telling the panel at the first Lego Movie — “Don’t screw this up”.  It seemed like this father and son took something that most people hate (the hall h line) and really made it into something special.  Also - Indigo often does a dog event on their upstairs patio. One year they gave out star wars tennis balls.  Kids seem to like the break from the Con and the chance to pet a few dogs.

Even more Kevin Smith at the American Comedy Co.
I'm not sure why they didn't just announce them all at the same time.

Hollywood Babble-On: Comic Con Edition!

I was at the Green Lantern panel.  Awh, memories.   I actually recorded a video of that moment, but it's really bad shaky cam work.   However, I found another video that has a better quality than mine.   Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uuPsGx0mBM

I think I got in line around 5am for that panel.  Now they do the wrist band thing were people get in line the day before and wait for a wristband.

US VENTURE EPILOGUE
SAN DIEGO 2017
ART  TOYS SCULPTURE
JULY 19-23RD

SPARKS GALLERY
530 Sixth Avenue
San Diego, CA 92101

"THIS SDCC THREEA TAKES OVER SPARKS GALLERY IN THE HEART OF SAN DIEGO'S GASLAMP QUARTER FOR US VENTURE EPILOGUE!"

"Over the last decade, 3A has commemorated benchmark achievements with the incredibly diverse Venture art showcases across the globe. With every Venture, fans are invited to a massive gathering of 3A’s art, toys, sculptures, and unique blend of DIY culture along with a selection of like-minded artists — all curated by Ashley Wood.

The first Venture originated at 3A’s Hong Kong Headquarters in 2009, filling the walls with art in every medium. The festivities continued to Beijing in 2010, and again in Hong Kong in 2012 for the aptly titled Re-Venture, with the most recent event held in Tokyo as the finale to a three-tour show.

The summer of 2017 brings with it the first ever Venture in the United States, and will bookend this era of 3A with US Venture Epilogue in San Diego during SDCC to celebrate the culmination of all that has come before and to welcome the next exhilarating chapters to come! Ashley Wood is thrilled to be joined by returning Venture artists Siuyin, William Wray, and Seattle artist Syd Bee — with more details to be announced soon!"

MST3K will be doing two live shows during SDCC.  They sent a backer update today with the list of live shows. July 21 doing Eegah @7pm, July 22 doing a Secret Surprise Movie @7pm.  No details on where. Tickets go on sale for backers tomorrow and they will send an email for the link.  Email also says that for Eegah it will be new riffs, secret movie won't be announced (yet?...). Shows will have Jonah and the bots plus Joel as emcee.

I'm not sure what it means for Hardwick/Nerdist. Its odd he hasn't said anything yet. Last year the podcast tickets were on sale in April. Conival was confirmed to be back at the very end of June/beginning of July.

I have never had luck tweeting at him and getting a response but maybe someone else would.

The Balboa Theatre also has listed for Friday night at 10 PM--

The Adventure Zone

Fri 7/21 @ 10pm
Balboa Theatre
San Diego, CA
https://www1.ticketmaster.com/the-adventure-zone-san-diego-california-07-21-2017/event/0A0052A9B0761A13

and for Saturday night at 10 PM--

My Brother, My Brother and Me

Sat 7/22 @ 10pm
Balboa Theatre
San Diego, CA
https://www1.ticketmaster.com/my-brother-my-brother-and-me-san-diego-california-07-22-2017/event/0A0052A9BBD01CB7

So probably no Hardwick/Nerdist podcast this year, at least not at the Balboa.

I haven't read the backer e-mail does it say that shows in other cities will be all the same cast listed for the SDCC shows? They will be in my city Aug. 3 so I am debating seeing them here to free up time in San Diego! The mystery show is propbably gonna be pretty awesome though... decisions decisions!

From what I understood, all tour dates will have Jonah and the Bots plus Joel as emcee.  I was also thinking of just going to my local show to free up con time, but the special secret one isn't coming to my city.  Since Felicia Day will most likely be in San Diego that could also mean a surprise appearance by her so I'm conflicted on what to do.

Thursday Night - Game of Thrones Parody. (they're running shows on Thursdays, Fridays & Saturday)
Saturday Night - Michelle Branch. (Singer that I'm a fan of that just happens to be playing in San Diego on the Saturday)

Hoping to get tickets to Funko for the Friday as well but that's unlikely given how fast it sells out.

So for Balboa park stuff: how easy is it to get there during the con? I've had to do Ubers/Lyfts/Taxis to do HopCon, which has been worth it.  Never done anything at Balboa before and not sure how feasible it is.  Last time I went there I was with someone who lived in San Diego so I had the luxury of just being driven there.

Super easy. Balboa Park is just right up 6th Ave a few blocks from the Gaslamp. You could even walk if you really felt like it, but a Lyft would be cheap and easy. And if you check the bus routes, I'm sure it's a single short bus ride as well.

I wouldn't say Balboa Park is walking distance. It's up Park Blvd (between 11th & 13th, not 6th), and it's a good 2.5-3 miles to where any events would be taking place (I know last year there was something at the Fleet Science Center, not sure if anything is going on this year).

There are a couple buses that pick up on Broadway that will go straight to the Park. Last year we took an Uber from Little Italy and it was like 6 dollars.

Balboa Park is really big and yes, it is right up 6th Ave. The El Prado bridge off of 6th Avenue is the traditional/iconic entrance to the park. There are several ways to enter, but I'd recommend this way as it takes you right into the heart of the park and the Plaza de Panama. I'm not trying to argue here, but I'm a San Diegan and I know my park.

Nice. Not bad.  I am CAPABLE of walking 3 miles, but during SDCC in the hot sun? Eeehhh I'll take a Lyft.  Good to know it's relatively cheap between the two though.

I guess I was thinking that places like Fleet (and I was using Fleet as the example because its the only Balboa Park spot I defintively remembered having an offsite) would be easier to walk to via Park, but I Googled it and it is pretty equal,  and your way would definitely be more scenic. But either way more of a walk than I'd want to commit to. Can I walk 2.5 miles? Sure. Do I want to spend an hour getting somewhere during Comic Con? Nope. That's just me though!

I went to the one last year.. actually I went when they were just setting up. It looked very sad.. like 2 posters and an empty room. I left before it started.
The skybar (where it was held) is actually very nice. We just took some photos and chilled for a bit before leaving.

I'd recommend the GOT musical as well. I'm going to it Thursday night now, had originally booked saturday but they were super nice about changing it to the Thursday.

Which I was v grateful for as I'm going to a Michelle Branch gig in San Diego Saturday night now instead. You could check out her concert if you like her music.

Another music show on in San Diego that I'd recommend if people are looking for something to do off site during CC week.

Friday night Silversun Pickups & Third Eye Blind play san diego, venue is approx a 17 minute drive from the convention centre. If I hadn't already got a ticket for funko fundays (and given how hard those are to get) I'd def have been going to this.

Open Air Theater is also right on the trolley line. Just take the green line and get off at the SDSU stop. The OAT is situated right there at the trolley stop. Easy as heck.

Just throwing this out there, is anyone willing to create a spreadsheet of off-site events similar to the consolidated lists of exclusives, etc?
As we get closer to con, more info will be thrown out and stuff tends to get lost in the shuffle.

Big hugs and love to whomever takes it on  :-*

Same here. And I AM a Game of Thrones fan, but I find these parody things extremely hit-or-miss, so I'd rather find something else. I always have the option of the Masquerade party in Sails if nothing else presents itself.

Actually, this year is at the same date range as last year. The year before last, it was earlier in July.

I did look through last year, and they had already made the announcement about the Star Trek movie premiere (May 20). So, I am guessing no big event like that, but that is just a guess. That was tied with the Star Trek Fan Event, so maybe that is why it was announce when it was.

Heck, it's all just guesses at this point. I do agree that it is a bit early to get super worried.

I went back and tried to see when about things were announced. While some stuff like the amazon and south park off-sites were announced in early June, most off it was not announced until late/end of June and into July. There is still time.

Turning Tydes Theater Company presents:
Into the Walker Woods, and Phantom of the Empire

https://www.turningtydes.org/upcoming

This is a super low budget theater company that mashes up pop culture movies/shows with musicals. I went last year and had a blast. This year is Walking Dead/Into the Woods, and Star Wars/Phantom of the Opera. They have shows every night of the con.

Tix are not on sale yet, but I remember them being pretty cheap. They also have a small bar in the theater with $5 drinks.

No word from Natgeo Nerd Nite yet, but on their website it says their regularly scheduled Nerd Nite (July 18) is going to be Speed Dating instead.

This could mean that there could be an actual Nerd Nite during SDCC, since the July event isn't really a Nerd Nite...but it could also mean that there won't be one, since they already have an event so close to July 18...hmm...

I got lucky and ran into some of the Wyonna Earp cast including Melanie Scrofano in front of the restroom last year.  No, I'm not one of those people that wait to ambush people at the restroom door. ;)

They were really laid back and seemed surprised that anyone would be interested in them.  There was only a small 4-5 person crowd.  I actually walked by on my way to fill up a water bottle at a drinking fountain and then stopped on my way back.

A little off topic, my husband looks like Penn Gillette from Penn and Teller ( even with his Japanese heritage) and we go to Vegas about twice a year.  We were at the Rio last year, where they do their show, and two guys followed him into the bathroom one saying "it's not him."  aside from that, people will randomly scream Penn at him.

Highly doubt it.  Nolan didn't bring the Dark Knight films to Comic-Con, let alone INCEPTION and those are all genre films (he did have a panel for INTERSTELLAR so there IS that).  DUNKIRK seems like a big long shot for SDCCI anyway, but with Nolan generally avoiding Comic-Con previously I'd say it would be WAY shocking if they did have a panel.

Studios DO seem to love to hype up films right before they open (see EXPENDABLES, which might've really benefitted from the Comic-Con buzz from the panel the day before it opened), so I personally wouldn't say 100% no.  But I'd say we're looking at, like, maybe only a very slim chance DUNKIRK would play in Hall H this year.

They announced that May 20 last year. I feel like they would have already announced it if there was one. Everything seems later this year, so who knows! It could happen!

They did have a panel for Batman Begins at Wondercon in 2005 (I attended) and I believe they had a panel for Inception at Wondercon as well. So I don't think Nolan is anti-Comic Con. It's more the case of the timing of his movies' releases don't fit into the SDCC schedule as well. But I agree, I think with Dunkirk opening during SDCC, he's going to be too busy doing regular, more wide-reaching promo.

Any chance we're gonna get a GOT watch party? I mean, we can't let this opportunity to actually watch a new episode with dozens/hundreds of fellow fans go to waste, right? It airs after the con is over on Sunday night, so it would have to be an offsite, but come on!

And as for Game of Thrones excitement -- I can't wait! This will be my first year going to the con after getting into GOT. I've spent like six months waiting for new episodes so that I can experience along with people instead of after. Hope I can get into whatever is planned!

https://nerdgeist.com/2017/06/29/imdb-yacht-is-heading-back-to-comic-con-with-exclusive-interviews-and-imdboat-party/

Plus win a chance to board the boat--
"From Thursday through Saturday (July 20-22), select fans who post photos to their social media accounts using the hashtag #IMDboat will have the opportunity to come aboard and enjoy the first deck of the IMDboat as space permits from 2 PM to 4 PM. Information about how to access the IMDboat will be provided by IMDb street teams as they distribute swag bags and interact with fans. In addition, for the first time, convention goers will be able to watch Kevin Smith’s celebrity interviews and other IMDb Comic-Con coverage on a massive LED screen mounted to the IMDboat (facing the Convention Center)."

My pie in the sky, 2015 brought Star wars out to the amphitheater for a live performance, then 2016 we got the star trek movie there....how about a live screening of GOT there this year?!
They are not releasing screeners to press this season so if this happens it would be good for the fans.

Voltron offsite/autograph activities:
http://nerdist.com/voltron-sdcc-2017-panel-premiere-season-3/

Quote
After the panel, on Thursday the 20th from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, fans and cosplayers are encouraged to head over to PETCO Park for FANDOM Fest where Joaquim, Lauren, Bex, and Tyler will be on hand to check out your best Voltron cosplay and met fans.

This is followed on Friday, July 21, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, our quartet will be at the autograph area and in Sails Pavilion at the San Diego Convention Center for a ticketed signing.

Quote
And if you sadly can’t make any of these things, or even if you can and you just want to get your grub on, then all con long, you’ll be able to head to PETCO Park’s Interactive Zone and hit up the official Hunk food truck, serving every paladin’s (least) favorite snack: Green Food Goo! Don’t worry, though; it’s actually real tasty. The truck will be open from 11am-6pm Thursday through Saturday and 11-5 on Sunday.

Yeah, this is rad! The guest list is on the lighter side of things vs what WonderCon had, but I'll take it. The food truck does look awesome! I may have to try that green stuff. Lol It's good seeing the new Voltron series getting the love it deserves. It's a great series on Netflix.

Thanks for the heads up TJ!

Looks like Netflix is taking over Hilton Gaslamp.  PR says "You should head over to the Hilton Gaslamp for The Netflix Experience. All weekend long (all day Thursday and Friday and 11am-8pm on Saturday and Sunday) you can try out new VR experiences that will take you places like the Upside Down from Stranger Things or the streets of New York as the Defenders see them.amp."

Interesting announcement:

Comic-Con 2017: Twitter to Live-Stream Coverage From IGN

Within the article is this:

"“IGN Live From SDCC” also will include live dispatches from the San Diego Convention Center show floor, Petco Park and the New Children’s Museum. "

I can guess what will be at Petco, but we know Nerd HQ canceled their event at the Children's Museum.  Did I miss an announcement of who is going to be there?

I really hope so - I'm bummed that it comes out while I'm at SDCC and I'll have to wait to see it.

I would love this--and any of the cast members attending would be fabulous.

I've been attending SDCC so long, I can't even remember the first time I went. I always tell people, the biggest secret is never try to do everything. I'm always upset when the con is over, but as of today, I've never been able to even do half of what I had planned. There's always so much both at the con, and offsite activations. It's impossible to get to it all.

1 was the limit. I got some for friends, but sent to their email addresses directly.

I snagged two (for my wife and me) then went back to get one for a pal and they were gone. All the e-mail says is "thanks for RSVP'ing" with no name or information. Does that mean I got the tickets or is there some other step involved?

I got in for myself, but was unable to get in again for DH. Is it one person per RSVP? I'm assuming it is. I guess I won't be going. They should make it so you can at least get two.

It looked like it was only one person per RSVP. Last year they went through eventbrite, I just double checked, as I had real tickets, not just an email.

Given that Big Boi is performing, I'm guessing they don't have a whole lotta room since I'm sure tons will want to go.  Congrats on those that got tix, should be a fun concert.

I guess there will be space, since I don't want to go without DH. I can't find any info on it besides the event page. Someone tweeted about it earlier today, but didn't answer any of the questions about it. The email is just as cryptic. Crossing fingers that it will be a +1 situation, but realize that it is a longshot.

I have given up on there being a Nerd Nite, since they tweeted about NYCC Nerd Nite today, and have not said a word about SDCC. I was hoping this would be the replacement.

It looks like each RSVP is only for one. Based on the name and the SDCC Blog stating the RSVP email is the ticket. I would assume if it was a +1, it'd have made mention of that somewhere. Hoping it is a +1 so you and your DH can both attend!

Last year they had free food (sliders, wings) and an open bar. Some celebrity sightings (most of the kept to themselves at their VIP section). My least favorite part was the line to get in. It took me almost an hour to get in.

This year may be even longer, since Big Boi is performing. I assume most people have heard of him, maybe not love him, but he's a big enough name to attract a bigger turn-out

Yeah, I definitely would. Hopefully they'll be faster at letting people in this year. I believe most of the bottleneck came from  the VIP line. People in that line were let in first and then they would let people in the regular line in. So if a VIP showed up 30 minutes after the party started, they were let in before those that were already waiting in the regular line. They also had a table where people checked in... So they could only let in some people at one time. Not very organized in terms of people movement and line management. But I still had fun!

There were also video games, a makeup artist area and a concert put on by a small indie band.  The food was whatevs but the free alcohol was plus.
But last year, no one really knew what to expect since I think that was their first year (they were launching the website if I recall) also, I don't think we knew how many were going, hence the long wait times.  This year, you know only 350 people can get in (although I'm sure there will be celebs and business folk there too) so it shouldn't be that long or crowded, hopefully.

I do remember waiting in front of a large restaurant vent and that sucked.

Yeah, this is really the only reason I'm bummed to have missed out on Fandom tickets. I don't care about Big Boi, and this isn't really my husband's type of party. but I really wanted something to do Thursday. But I have to remind myself that I'm actually just sad there's no Nerd Nite, and that I don't really care about the Fandom party.

There's no real dress code for fan parties unless specified. Generally things are pretty casual and this should be too. No one is going to kick you out if you're in jeans and a tee probably, but I don't know the specifics about this party.

You didn't get a plus one, did you? ;)

I think people do not know that the Padres are back in town the following Monday after SDCC so I believe that is why no major events at Petco this year like in previous years (Nerdist Convial and Nerd HQ). I think it would be an logistics nightmare to have everything torn down Sunday Night and into Monday Morning to get ready for the Baseball game that day.

That's certainly interesting - but it's also worth pointing out that Conival only runs through Saturday anyway this year, so not really sure that explanation flies.

Was 2013 the first time any offsite had expanded to Petco? Had the Walking Dead Experience been there before that? I truly believe that the owners recognized what a prime location they had, saw the expanding offsites and the money being pumped in by big studios and accidentally priced themselves out of contention while trying to capitalize on it.

It may, in fact, be that the Padres don't want to deal with this huge undertaking anymore during the season, which I can understand. But if we see things back there next year, I believe it'll be because they lowered their rates after gambling and losing this year.

I hope it doesn't sound like I'm angry at the Padres, because I'm not. That's the nature of capitalism. Last year was the height of offsites and this year, the bubble's burst, I guess.

I actually like the invite-only approach. It means I don't waste time in lines that I may actually wait in and yet never get inside. I think the reason why they moved to it, is because of overcrowding. Some of the events, i.e the Fandom Party, would be inundated with people if they didn't go that route. I could see more and more things being invite-only. I mean I like not worrying about invites, but I see the point in why they are going to it.

Sure, but some of the invite only events so far, just require you to do something online. Hence why I used the Fandom Party as an example. It was invite only, but just required you logging onto a website. Same goes with the Buffy party (though they make mention they'll let in others later.) You're making it sound like everything is invite-only, and that it requires knowing someone or being someone special. Plus, most of the invite only stuff is industry only.

I personally got lucky and got invited to a very special party, but only because I happened to know someone. If they opened that party to the public, it'd be so crazy, there wouldn't be enough security there. I doubt they'd have it if it was open to the public. Like I said, I see both sides.

I personally don't consider those events invite-only, and they're not always listed as such. They're often listed as "RSVP required" or "tickets required". Those ones don't make me sad, but I agree that the proliferation of true invite-only events sometimes does. Less so in years where there's a good mix of all types of events, but this year is lighter as far as amount of off-sites.

IGN Dark Tower party

Ok, let's be honest about this to the newbies. Since the invite link is STILL up, that means thousands of people are going to RSVP.

That also means the line to get in is going to be insanely long.

I'm having Crave Online flashbacks from a few years ago when they hosted their first party on the USS Midway. It was a disorganized nightmare.

Now the only plus is that IGN has hosted parties before and knows that they are doing. It leaves a TINY bit of hope they'll have plenty of drinks and food.

Yeah the longer this stays open, the less likely it is the RSVPs actually mean anything.

Yeah I noticed the registration was still open which makes me a bit bummed. I don't think that the Tipsy Crow is that big so I don't know what's up with that.  Sigh. I hope they don't cancel the rsvp's and make it Invite Only.

The Tipsy Crow is three levels, so it's a decent size. And it has several distinct areas so hopefully they'll go all out with the theming. But yeah, at this point it's looking like it will be a looooooong line. So far I have nothing else on Thursday night though so I may give it a try.

Same event mentioned on the SDCCBlog Twitter. I assume it's official but it's strange that there's been no mention of it on any of the BBC or DW handles. 21+ seems to be a first.

$10 per person, with the musicians playing the Rock’N’Roll looking rather familiar. To those who follow IDW…

This is going to sound crazy - but I sometimes think the event planners for these shows really don't understand line dynamics for Hall H.  Same for the stars - I've actually been asked at a signing - "what did you think of our panel?" - as if I could go to both.

Perhaps they're giving other fans a chance to get in, people who don't have badges and/or are not inclined to camp out. I do find it weird that have a 21+ only event for such a kid friendly event. Was a little sore yesterday, but panel > party for me.

I did, I entered less than 30 seconds after the blog retweeted it.  I saw Aisha tweeted early this morning that winners will be notified within the next 48 hours and they got a bunch of entries.  I have a small hope I entered fast enough but realistically I doubt I did.  It will probably come down to internet speeds and your email client honestly.

I now have several tickets to several parties for Thursday night. Fandom was my main goal, but I missed out. Once the wife and I finalize our plans, I will offer up my extra tickets here.

Sweet-got two tickets to the Funimation Event that the unofficial blog just tweeted about (it's already sold out, of course-didn't even have time to post about it). And, since I am a Funimation subscriber, I get an extra drink ticket. Something DH and I can do on Thursday, and something I am interested in!

It's nice that it's for everyone during the day, but 21+ in the evening.

So sad that I missed out on Nerd Nite. I was working away, listening to the tweets go off on my phone, but I was trying to get something done. I have been following Nerd Nite all year (had them on notify). I should have turned off the unofficial blog for this morning. I had a feeling Nerd Nite would be today. I wish they hadn't waited so long. Last year, they did it around July 1st, so I was on high alert for a while, but then let my guard down.

Congrats to those that scored tickets. It really is a fun time.

If you're sleeping at SDCC, you're doing it wrong ;)

(This is coming from the guy who camped-out all night for the Firefly Reunion panel, only to fall asleep during it) so take my opinion with huge grains of salt ;)

I'm curious, do Hall H people get hotel rooms or do they just camp out all the time? Seems like a hotel room would be a waste of money like getting a hotel for a bachelor/bachelorette party in Vegas.

Still need space to shower and hold your stuff though. I know people who only used their rooms for maybe a couple hours. Its up to you whether that's worth the money though.

We are way over room capacity this year for our hotel, but I kind of feel like it's a moral grey area since the people actually sleeping there will be less than capacity on any given night.

It's really just a giant private bathroom and stuff locker.

Oh man! I remember one year we had (no joke) ten people in one tiny crappy motel room in Chula Vista. With one bed! After that year, I vowed to spend the extra money on Gaslamp hotels and to never allow more than 4 people in the room again.    ;D

There's so much, and it seems like things were announced later this year? Could be me not paying attention. I'm happy that I'm with my son this SDCC and not trying for anything that's 21+ because it helps cut down on the events to keep track of. (That's not the only reason I'm happy to be there with my son of course, I'll need help carrying all the stuff I've pre-ordered) :)

I blanked last year with Steven Moffat. They kept asking if anyone had a question for him. I kept racking my brain to see if I could think of anything. Couldn't. I wasn't the only one it seems. They must be used to it but it still must sting a bit when they ask an audience for questions and there's just silence.

Did they not give you an option for a Guest? I snagged mine in the first round of RSVP's and ticked the box for a Guest and it prompted me after to enter a name.

I didn't see an option for number of tickets.  The link for the RSVP only had 3 fields: first name, last name, and email address.  Here's the link, but it doesn't have the RSVP option anymore:

http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/opinion/the-conversation/sd-what-to-do-outside-comic-con-20170710-htmlstory.html

Quote
You’ve got the costume, the love of comics and the burning desire to go to Comic-Con, but you don’t have the badge you need to make it into the hallowed halls of the San Diego Convention Center. Considering badges sold out within hours this year, that’s understandable. No problem. The pop culture juggernaut has been spilling out onto the streets over the past few years and the opportunities for San Diego locals and travelers who just want to soak in the scene and be among their people continue to get bigger and better.

Here are 12 of the coolest events and activities you can do outside the convention center without a Comic-Con badge.

Adult Swim at Comic-Con

“Adult Swim On the Green” will feature games, motorized animals, a tarot card reader, dart throwing, an oversized claw machine with Comic-Con-related prizes and something referred to as the “Meatwad Dome 4D Experience.” “The Green” is located behind the convention center at Fifth Avenue Landing and Convention Way and is open to anyone older than 18. Celebrity guests will be stopping by throughout the Con and AdultSwim.com will be broadcasting some of your favorite shows live. It’ll be open from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

Adult Swim’s “Nighttime On The Green” will offer free screenings for fans who want to see the latest series and pilots. Start lining up at 7 p.m. and the screenings will run from 8 to 10 p.m on Thursday and Friday.

At Petco Park on Saturday, Adult Swim will host a “Rick and Morty” event with creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon. Use the East Village Gate to line up at 7 p.m. The show will run from 7:30 to 11 p.m. For more information visit adultswim.com/presents.

Heroes Brew Festival

Beer selections from 60 breweries will be available for purchase at this event celebrating superheroes and beer. An upgraded ticket is also available for access to an unlimited tasting event that will feature more than 50 types of beers from top breweries across the country. There will be a costumed crusader contest, art exhibits, augmented reality technology and live music at this ages 21 and up festival.

4 p.m. Saturday. Waterfront Park, 1600 Pacific Highway, San Diego. $20 to $99. heroesbrewfest.com

AMC’s “DEADQUARTERS”

“The Walking Dead” and “Fear The Walking Dead” will be featured at AMC’s “DEADQUARTERS” experience. Test your swing at the “Negan Batting Cages,” meet cast members and more.

11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Martin Luther King Promenade, in front of the Hilton Gaslamp Hotel at Fourth Avenue and L Street. Free.

Pre-Con at the Library

San Diego Public Library has a full schedule of events planned on Tuesday ahead of Comic-Con, including a demonstration by U.S. Quidditch and a chance to play the sport made famous by the “Harry Potter” book series from 2 to 4 p.m. Panel discussions about the business and science of comics and careers in the comic book industry are also planned for Pre-Con at the Library.

2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Joan Irwin Jacobs Commons at San Diego Central Library, 330 Park Blvd, San Diego. Free.

“The largest lightsaber battle in the country”

The Underground Lightsaber Fighters of San Diego are hosting “the largest lightsaber battle in the country” during Comic-Con at Balboa Park. Dress up, bring your lightsabers and battle it out. All cosplayers are welcome, not just “Star Wars” fans.

8 p.m. Saturday. Meet at the large fountain in Balboa Park, 1549 El Prado, San Diego. Free. ulfsandiego.com.

Their Facebook page has an event on Wednesday at the Pop Up Shop, so it looks like you're in luck.

Maybe I'm being a little strict, but how can that be possible? There's like 13 empty chairs. That has to be against the rules, one person to watch 13 chairs!??

Get ready for another family of 15 attached to each chair including babies and 80 year olds.Pretty all the exclusive are accounted for. Yea like locust, just how they roll when purchasing what they see as a quick buck like sneakers,Christmas toys, video game systems..I will not even go near that place...good luck to those trying.

At the end of the day there are no rules.. It makes Funko look good with hype  up demand and most of them being on eBay at a crazy price. A false perception of what something is worth. Ok that's my rant...

Dunno if they're still letting people in but Marvel and IMAX are hosting an Inhumans preview screening at the Horton Park Plaza. Free food and theatrical poster.

We stopped by the "Futurist" thing at the Omni today, mostly various VR things, and some AI/science stuff. There were some lines for the VR but nothing like you'd see in the exhibit hall and it was quite fun. (Even though my glasses wouldn't fit in one and I ended up having to shoot it out against killer robots half blind for all to see.)

This is on my definite to do list as a "break" .. plus I figured it would be all things nerdy like science and AI.. just up my alley. Cool re VR.

To speed things up at The Tick offsite, sign up at thetickonsite.com. Of course, you will probably have time to do it in line. We walked by at 8:47am and there were only a couple of people in line. So, we asked when it opened. They said 9am, so we hung out. It was fun, but now I see how much I don't know about the Tick. You get a customized item (choices are 3 types of shirts, and a koozie) and a cool video photo op. I don't know if there's any advantage to getting more trivia questions right. (There's a trivia test at the beginning, and during the scavenger hunt for certain stations). We definitely were there at a good time.

I'm in line at the blade runner & expanse offsite. At this point it may be a two hr wait
I got in line about 8:30am and have a bit more to go.
One line to get through both off sites. Go to blade rune first, do the experience and get a skip the line for The Expanse experience. If u 'win'/escape the expanse experience you get a season 2 blue ray set!
