Ace Parking will be running the same lottery process we ran last year and the lottery registration period will be open starting April 1st. More information and a link to this years sign-up form will be provided the last week in March.

Entries for the lottery will be accepted until the 22nd of April. We will hold the lottery drawing on the 23rd of April and divide the selected entries into groups.

On May 1st the system will be opened and restricted to the people in group 1 only. Each week thereafter the system will be opened to the next group until all groups have had a chance to purchase their permits. At the end of the group sales, the system will be opened to the general public.

Each group will have a full week to purchase their permits. Last year there were still plenty of permits available in the system when it opened for the general public. Everyone that participated in the lottery was able to get a permit for parking. We cannot guarantee a spot at any particular location and some locations are a lot more popular than others, however, all locations are within easy walking distance of the Convention Center.

If you have any questions, please send them to [email protected]

Thank you,
 The Ace Parking Team

Comic-Con 2018 FAQ

Q: What locations will be included in the sale this year?
A: The locations participating in this year’s sale are included below.

Q: What is the link to the site selling the permits?
A: https://space.aceparking.com/events We are releasing the link to the site that will be selling the permits ahead of time so you will be able to get familiar with the site and set up an account in the system, if you so choose. The permits will be sold by our reservation website at space.aceparking.com. The link to the page that will be selling the permits in the system is: https://space.aceparking.com/events/. Credit cards are not stored on the site and the site is fully PCI compliant.

Q: What are the operating hours for the lots?
A: Most lots will open for drive up business at the times below, however, there may be cases when the lots open for permit holders only and do not open for drive up sales until later in the morning. Each lot is different and works to maintain a balance between the reserved spaces and extra inventory.

-Convention Center, Hilton Bayfront garage, Padres Parkade, Diamond View Towers: 5am — 2am
-Tailgate Park, Triangle, MTS: 5am — 2am
-707 Broadway: 4pm on Friday until 6am on Saturday. Saturday 6am — 12am and Sunday 6am — 6pm. No overnight camping.

Q: What is the decal number field in the user account setup?
A: The decal number field is for Associates of Ace Parking Only and you can leave it blank.

Q: Do the lots offer over-sized vehicle parking?
A: No, vehicles over 18 feet will be turned away and not allowed to park even with a valid permit. Sorry.

Q: Does my permit include in-and-out privileges for the day?
A: No, in-and-out privileges are not allowed. If you leave the lot your space will become available for another drive-up customer to park in. Sorry.

Q: Does the online system require me to set up an account to purchase my permits?
A: Yes. You will need to set up an account during the checkout process. Your account will enable system features such as the ability to print your permit in the future, and tie all purchased permits to a single barcode that you can carry on your smart device for use at scanner equipped lots. Your account will be available for future purchases for parking at next year’s Comic-Con and other events with the same barcode assigned to you which will be replenished with future permit purchases as they are made.

Q: Will the system allow me to purchase multiple permits per day?
A: No. Each account is restricted to one permit per day for Comic-Con. If you need to purchase more than one permit, you will need to set up multiple accounts.

Q: Is there a way to purchase Comic-Con permits other than online?
A: The only way you can purchase advance parking permits for Comic-Con from Ace Parking is through the online system. However, the majority of the lots included in the online sale and others that are not included will be available for drive-up parking the day of the event. Drive up availability will be first come, first served for the remaining spaces not reserved online. The lots are expected to fill up fast. If you are planning to find parking the day of the event, you should get there early.

Q: Can cars be parked overnight? Or just during the hours of the event?
A: Overnight parking is not permitted. The lots close at 2 am and reopen at 6 am (Convention Center opens at 5 am). They close so they can be prepared for the next day. Most lots are pre-sold to full capacity each day, so any cars on the lot after 2 am, will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Q: What if I drive a different car the day of the event?
A: This year there is no need to enter details about your vehicle when you purchase your permit. The program doesn’t even prompt for them. We only request that you place a copy of your printed permit on your dashboard so it can be scanned by our lot enforcement personnel.

Q: Can I make a copy of my permit and give it to my friend?
A: No. The permits are lot specific and can only be redeemed once. If a copy is found, the vehicle will be ticketed. If you’ve copied your permit and given it to a friend, the second permit scanned will be in violation and that may end up being your car. The permits are barcoded and lot enforcement personnel will be making the rounds scanning/redeeming them.

Q: Handicap Parking?
A: ADA spaces are first come first served. The Convention Center and Hilton Bay Front are the best choices for ADA parking.

Q: Will the passes sold online include a fee?
A: Yes, a convenience fee will be added per permit per day at checkout.

Q: Why am I being charged a convenience fee?
A: Yes, we do our best to make pre-purchasing parking as easy as possible so that fans can reserve parking ahead of time online. The convenience fee covers resources spent on making this option available and include, web hosting, ticketing hardware, customer support, training, credit and debit card processing services, merchant fees, computer hardware and software, telephone lines, labor and more.

Q: If I send in multiple entries from multiple email accounts that I own and win one of them, can I purchase my permit with any of the emails I registered with or only the one that won?
A: Only the one that won. Your winning email address must be registered in the account you are going to use to purchase the permits. The purchase process will require you to log into your account first and will validate your email address. If your email address matches one on the selected list, you will be given the option to purchase a permit at the lot your name was drawn for. If there is no match, the option to purchase a permit will not be available to you.

Q: Can I register for the drawing with an email address that I haven’t registered an account within the permit system?
A: Yes. Accounts in the permit system are separate from the registration emails. If one of the email accounts you entered from is selected to purchase a permit, you have the option to create an account for that email address or update your existing account with that email address to qualify for the purchase option.

Q: If my entry is selected for a lot, can I purchase a permit for multiple days, or just a single day?
A: When you enter the system to purchase your permit, you will have the option to purchase permits for all five days during the show (preview night and four show days.)

Q: Can I register multiple times for the lottery?
A: Yes and no, the system will accept your entries, but the drawing will be restricted to one entry per email address.

If anyone already has an ACE parking account (say from last or past years) - you might want to check to make sure your logins for emails you plan to submit again are still working, just in case - I just checked mine and they all worked.

Any new email addresses you submit for this year will require a new account setup in order to purchase your passes, should any of those emails win in the lottery.

You can check your logins or set up a new account at: http://space.aceparking.com

I never really understand this horrible lotto system.
1.)They let you create unlimited amount of emails to enter into this "lotto".
2.)They let scalper return their tickets if they can't sell it on ebay.

Just my 2 cent..

Calendar links added for the lottery registration. I think they are off on the dates for the groups, since Group 1 shows on a Tuesday (I suspect they copied last year's verbiage). I will add those links as we get closer. I will also update the OP once the dates are more solidified.

UPDATE: 3/30/18

Due to the upcoming holiday weekend, we have decided to push the announcement to Monday, April 2nd.

We have made this decision so our team can be available to field calls and social media questions about the sign-up process if any confusion should occur.

Look for another announcement in this spot on Monday morning. There is not a set time for the announcement and we’d like to emphasize that the sign-up period will be open for over three weeks so there is no need to rush the doors when the announcement is released.

Have a great Holiday weekend!

The Ace Parking Team.

UPDATE: 4/2/18

The sign-up period is now open. In an effort to stop the sign-up spamming that we have experienced in the past, this year, we are requiring that you enter a valid credit card as part of the sign-up process. YOUR CARD WILL NOT BE CHARGED, however, we will run a pre-authorization against it to ensure it is valid.

You can sign-up two times per valid credit card using the same or different email addresses.

You can find the sign-up form here: https://space.aceparking.com/site/comicConSignup

I thought this was quite interesting. Maybe it will help with people using bulk email addresses. I guess technically people could register with each one of their credit cards if they wanted, too. They're slowly getting better.

Edit: Oh, just noticed the second line there stating you can use the same credit card with the same name twice. Weird. So I suppose I will go back and submit a second entry now.

I do think this is somewhat fairer. Their old method was basically guaranteed to get them thousands of entries from only a few people. It was really a test of who could manage the most email addresses, not a true lottery.

Interesting. I assume that you will be able to change the credit card to a different one to actually purchase the permit though? If not that throws a new wrinkle into helping other folks get spots.

I sent this question to ACE - but wanted to know if any here has the answer also - I signed up for the Comic-con Parking lottery using two of my current ACE parking accounts – each with a different credit card and email address, but with the same name.

Can I enter a third time with my third Ace Parking account that has a different email address, but same name, and use one of my credit card numbers again - that would still be just two credit card numbers for all three entries – one number for two entries and the other number for a third entry.

The reason I ask is that when I logged in using my 3rd ACE account - it didn't show the form with my account info already in the boxes like the other two entries so all I would need to do is fill out the credit card info.

While I'm not completely comfortable giving them my CC info in advance, I'm glad they addressed last years problem by doing this. Also just an FYI that you now get a confirmation to your email that you submitted the form. If I remember correctly last year that wasn't the case.

For the second email with the same credit card, do they also attempt a $0.00 charge and attempt to verify the card again for the second email address?

I only checked my one credit card with the two E-mail addresses, all I got for both was a confirmation that they received my entry, nothing more.  I also did not see anything on that card plus another card.

Pretty sure you can use a different when paying for the actual order. This is mostly just to prove you're a human. But @AceParking can clarify.

Yes, This is correct. You don't have to use the same card to pay.

Good to know!

So now that our entries are limited based on how many credit cards we have, does this decrease our chances of landing in the top group or any group for that matter?  Last year I submitted 25 entries and I only got one Group 3 and one Group 4.  Don’t remember how many 5s and 6s I got.  Most of my entries got nothing.

I don't see much of a problem with this. It should probably cut down on people making random emails just to sign up. Ease the crazy amount of entries they probably get. If someone has 6 or 8 emails and can back it up with credit cards to sign up, I don't see a problem with that either. Last year, I think we got nothing out of 9 emails, so hopefully this helps with the odds a little.

All you need to do is to  buy some prepaid credit cards...

Yeah, did that for two entries, one prepaid card!  I have two Ace accounts and felt better submitting the prepaid # than my own credit card.

So just to check before I screw this up, if we have like three credit cards, we can submit 6 entries with the same email, as long as we don't use the same credit card more than twice? Do we think there is any advantage to changing the emails for each entry?  Thanks.

For me personally, I would err on the side of caution, so I used a different e-mail for each entry, just in case something goes wrong (or Ace pulls a fast one).  Others may have only used one e-mail address, however.  If you use the same credit card more than twice, then you'll get an error message telling you that on the sign-up page.  (Out of curiosity, I tested this out too, ha ha.)

There doesn't seem to be much of an advantage as far as we can tell at this time, since they're basing their lottery system on the credit card numbers this year, but they said they would automatically make a new "guest" account on their website for each entry in the lottery.

From the lottery sign-up page on Ace's website:
Quote
A guest account will be created for you automatically, you can use this for future purchases if you choose.

Hope that helps!

The rules SAY you can use the same email, but you can't. If you try you get an error message. You can remain signed into the same Ace account, though, weirdly. But you can only enter an email into the form twice.

So, out of curiosity, if we put a card down, does that have to be the card used to buy the permits?

For once, I don't need to participate in the parking sale, but this forum has helped me multiple times before to get parking for my brother. So, I would like to help out, I can put my cards down but I'm wondering if that's been answered yet? All else fails, if I get a good spot the person on the receiving end of an account could just pay me back I suppose.

According to what we've heard from Ace Parking, you don't need to pay with the same credit card used for signing up.

Hi there.

This will be our 12th year at SDCC. In the past we've always had a hotel, but I'm not sure that's going to work out this year. I've signed up a few times using different emails and credit cards, but I was wondering if anyone has any opinions on lots. Easy in/out? Obviously close is nice, but if something is easier to get into/our of, I don't mind the walk.

Thank you for any suggestions!

We have parked in the Hilton lot for the past few years. It’s my favorite lot. It’s the closest aside from the convention center, and traffic is never too bad going in. If you leave right when the floor closes you’ll probably wait a little while to get out of the structure but it’s not too bad.

Yeah, I like the Hilton lot too.  The only problem I've found is that if you arrive later in the morning , it's difficult to find a spot.  You can spend valuable time driving around and around trying to find a spot.  Usually have to stalk someone leaving. But it's great proximity to the convention center!

On that note for a similar idea. You can consider airport, secure parking structures that are quite cheap if you're not staying overnight OR even overnight (say if you need two cars but your hotel only lets you get one spot). Use that and then lyft/uber/taxi over to the con/your hotel. One of my group did that once. It was like $15/nightly, not sure what a day rate would be.

If the email address is not already in the system, Ace will have you create a new account.  However if your address is already in the system from prior sales, you just need to confirm your credit card data and click on submit to sign up for the lottery.

Question: It's my first year attending SDCC and I had signed up for the parking lottery in case I didn't get a hotel from the lottery. I was fortunate enough to receive a hotel, so I technically don't need the parking permit anymore. My question is, how hard is it to get a permit through the lottery? Should I still go through the process so I can give my pass to someone on the forum? Or maybe I should only do it if I am in an early group?

Since you have entered the parking lottery, you are entered. You can't really get out of it. If you win, you will receive an email that gives you a buying group with an assigned time to buy parking. You can either ignore it, or you can allow someone else to access the parking account that you set up and buy at that time. The choice is up to you. We will have a parking exchange thread set up on this site to make it easier to give away parking spots to those who need it.

There was a problem last year. If I recall, there were only a few sent out at first, and they have everyone's email addresses visible. In other words, they didn't use a 'blind' list to send out the emails, so you could see other people who had gotten the same result as you. There was a problem last year. If I recall, there were only a few sent out at first, and they have everyone's email addresses visible. In other words, they didn't use a 'blind' list to send out the emails, so you could see other people who had gotten the same result as you. They had to stop sending out the emails and fix it before resuming.

I remember that. All those spam emails...

Yep. I think that one guy being exposed to the 'world' was what prompted Ace to change the system to credit card verification this year.

I was really upset about that when I heard about the site/app/program that allowed people to create 100 email addresses. I only entered my home and work email and was really fortunate to get in round 1. I was amazed considering what I was up against.

UPDATE: 4/24/18

The lottery sign-up period is now closed. Emails will be going out today to the entries that were selected in the drawing. The entries will be organized into five groups. Group 1 will be able to purchase their parking reservations on April 30th and will have the whole week to do so. Group 2 will gain access to the system on May 7th and have the whole week to do so. We will continue in this fashion through Group 5 and then the system will be opened to the public.

Is it going by group or is everyone getting an email? I would assume emails are going out today to everyone who got lucky and telling us what group we are in.
Also, congrats!!

I believe in the past they did them in batches.  Group 1, then group 2 but all within 1-2 days.  Not sure how they're doing it this year, but I guess we'll find out based on people's responses.

Thanks!  Super stoked!   :)

I got group 3. If they allocated the groups like last year, only Convention Center fully sold out in the first 2 groups based on last year's parking thread. Hilton Bayfront availability seemed to start filling somewhere between groups 3/4.

I do believe the request post will be opened up again once the sale itself actually opens (like how the Hotel Swap didn't start until after all the e-mails were out for the first wave.) So ideally, wait until further notice to post requests as this is just a discussion post ^^;

We will open up this thread *after* Ace Parking's Permit Lottery is over and people have started to receive notifications for group 1 buying slots.

^ from the parking request post. Zero probably just hasn't had a chance to open it up.

Those of you that won extra permits from the lottery, this will probably seem like a silly question but:

Are you just buying all 5 days, then searching for people that request that?
Or are you first searching the request thread, then buying based on the results?

I just buy what I need and let the Inventory God take care of rest. Too much hassle buying all the days and distributing it from one email.

If you want to transfer the login to someone else, is your credit card information still tied to it?  Do you have to go in and delete it somehow?

Yes, your credit card information remains connected to your account.
Even though there is no way to view more than just the name and last 4 digits, it is the default payment method and could be used to purchase parking.
There is no easy way to have the card removed, so you will have to trust that the person you transfer the space to enters their own payment method and not use the default card.
If you are uncomfortable with this, you can always have the person PayPal you the money and then you purchase the space yourself and forward the voucher email to them.

last year there seemed to be underground spots available until the beginning of group 2

We were in group 3 last year and we were able to get some convention center parking. I logged in right at the start time and was able to get a combo of that and the Hilton Bayfront. If I remember right, it may have been posted here that convention center was gone (or nearly gone?), but when I logged in, I was able to grab it for multiple days. And I should mention...we only got group 3 because of wonderful [member=314]Transmute Jun[/member] helping us out. We had struck out in the parking lotto and didn't get placed into any parking groups.

Hopefully you did better this year, Comicconfamily!

There are people who prefer the Hilton to the Convention enter. The Hilton garage is more convenient to a lot of the offsites, and Hall H. And it's easier to get out of at the end of the day when traffic is at a standstill in the Gaslamp.

YES! We did much better this year -- group 1. And I plan to help out some FOCC members too.  :)

And I would agree on preferring Hilton Bayfront. We wanted that or convention center but totally didn't expect to get any for convention center. When I saw it available, I was so surprised and grabbed all that I could. BUT after the fact, while at SDCC, we had wished I had picked more Hilton Bayfront parking. Probably going to do a mix this year.

Glad you got Group 1 this year!

I have a friend who got Group 1 and she plans on buying convention center for PN, but Hilton for the other days.

Just asking for advice.
I got group 4 for parking. I know I probably will not get Convention or Hilton.
I was wondering what is the best alternative for my cat who will pregnant at the time.
What is the closest parking to the con besides the convention and Hilton?

Thanks.

I'm seriously considering trying out the Hilton this year, as opposed to CC, as I have been in past years.

I've done the Hilton when I couldn't get CC in the past--I actually never found it any less traffic-y to get into, but I was always coming from the west side.  The main disadvantage for me is that it takes so long to cross the street from CC that there's a slim chance I'd ever pop over to get food or dump swag in the middle of the day as I would if it was just downstairs.  On the upside, I usually get there so late I have to part on the top, and at the end of the day when I'm sitting slumped over exhausted in the car having my post-con Diet Dr. Pepper, it's a lot nicer to be up there than sucking in the carbon monoxide below CC.

Actually, I now recall someone said the Hilton was a little more difficult to get into if you arrive late in the morning and I haven't had that problem with CC so maybe I'll stick with CC.

I've never gotten convention center before but have done hilton, are there reasons to prefer hilton over convention center?

For us, if we are going to be doing anything Hall H related (waiting in line or attending a lot of panels), Indigo Ballroom (or anything else happening at the Hilton) or stuff over in Gaslamp, we like to park in the Hilton. I think it's just easier to get to. For example, if we know we're going to do a bunch of stuff in Gaslamp, it's less congested to walk along the front of Petco Park and take the stairs (or elevator) to the pedestrian bridge, which puts you right onto the 3rd floor of the Hilton parking garage (if I remember right).

The convention center parking elevators & stairs are near lobby B and C, and with the congestion in front of the convention center, it can take some time to get from lobby E-H to get to the parking garage elevators/stairs. Also, if you like to go back to your car to rest, eat lunch, or whatever, the Hilton can be cooler (especially if there is a breeze) and better air quality than being contained under the convention center. Ease of getting in and out when arriving and leaving -- I feel they are both comparable.

Overall, both are our top picks...we'll probably do a mix of both this year.

Go https://space.aceparking.com (https://space.aceparking.com), enter the dates you want, then type in convention center san diego. Then drop-down pick san diego again. Then you'll see a list of lots. Click on convention center and it'll be available. You of course need to be logged into the account that won the lottery. :)

For those that purchase parking today -- did you have to re-enter your card info at checkout? It had the little checkbox that says "Use Previous Stored Credit Card Information" (which was already checked), but it still made me reenter my card info. Which is totally fine, but wondering if everyone had to re-enter their card info?

Other slots like Tailgate Park and MTS are still showing as available, though.

It's possible they mistakenly opened them too early and are trying to correct it.

Yes, someone donated their Group 1 spot to me and I had to type in all my own info: there wasn't a requirement to re-enter a new cc, just the option.  One COULD try to charge it to the stored credit card if they're jerks.  Or maybe you could retype a bogus credit card as saved?  Or maybe you could delete the 'saved credit card' option and NOT have a credit card on file?  IDK
If they're people you trust than no worries

Yeah there has to be some glitch or issue because literally every lot is showing sold out and there's just no way based on past experiences that even BOTH the Convention Center and the Hilton would be sold out within 20 minutes on the very first day.

It's a hack job or a Bot job or something. As it stands anyone in group 2 gets NOTHING!!! And anyone in group 1 who did not log in within the first 10 minutes gets NOTHING! Something has to be off. Another ACE Parking debacle! YIKES! So sad.

So Group 2 will be unable to purchase Convention Parking or is it just sold out for Group 1?

I was able to get everything I needed.  However I signed on at 9:55am, I was not aware it had been opened at 8:30am.  I would have been pissed had all my first choices sold out before 10am.

Hopefully not!  I hope they didn’t issue more 1s than there are parking spaces at both the CC and Bayfront!

Based on the feedback on this forum, it looks like that is exactly what is happening.

Hmmm..
Here is my deduction Watson.
It seems like there were two possible ways of getting into the purchase point.
1.)Through the event parking page where you select the city and the comic con event pops up.(For people in Group 1 at 10am)
2.)By putting the date you want to purchase your parking pass(Early Access for everyone before ten.. i.e screw up by ACE)

This is purely hypothetical and is up for debate.

I would want clarification on your second point. But what happened for me, I was able to buy my friend parking. I had gotten a Group 1 email, and was able to buy it early. I had to input in the date and so forth, but until I logged in, it showed Convention Center as sold out. Once I logged in (after entering dates) it showed available.

Yea i guess you still had to login.
If there are any scenario from anyone else please chimp in.
Also the quick sold out can attribute to the fact that there are less fake emails winning this year.(Joey..looking at you)

From rumors on Twitter...it looks like Group 2 people were able to buy parking today. I will say, I'm just glad this is something that nobody can blame CCI for. This is all on Ace Parking.

Is Ace sophisticated enough to trace the "early" group 2 (or later) purchasers, refund them and then reset the lot inventories for next week?

They could. Will they though? I doubt it. What sucks is they're charging $8 a day for fees. You'd think with over 33% in fees alone going to them, Ace Parking would not mess this up. I'm too tired to scour the internet, but this is where a "You Had One Job!" meme would be quite fitting.

The convention center has two underground parking levels - in other words for those that get convention parking they will be parking underneath.

Not likely to happen. Ace has a history of honoring passes that were purchased ‘incorrectly’ regather than canceling and refunding. I remember a few years ago the parking link was available (but not advertised) before the parking sale date. But it was the same link as the previous year, so a number of people found it and bought their parking before the sale day. All of those passes were honored, even though Ace sent them a ‘you shouldn’t have done that’ email.

Exactly. Plus considering they'll probably say there is a low number of people who bought passes that weren't in Group 1. They already get their fees, why re-do everything? It'll just cost them time and money. Easier just to honor all the passes and be done with it.

Guess after 2 smooth years, i forgot how badly Ace used to drop the ball.  I logged in about 5 after and events link on FAQ wasn't working, even though it clearly states that is the correct link.  Then i found the direct link in the pdf instruction in the email, which worked. To my chagrin, conv center already sold out a few days.

I can't complain with having HBF parking, and guess i should be kicking myself for not checking early assuming their system would work.  But between them opening early, the link on their FAQ not working, and (possibly) letting other groups buy early - I am pretty frustrated since these were not in my control.

It's possible that those parking lots are showing as "sold out" because you're not on the correct web page (URL) to purchase parking vouchers.  After logging in to your ACE Parking account that was designated for Group 1 you then have to use the "Direct Link" that ACE sent everyone via email, which was posted in their instruction document:

https://goo.gl/5WptiD

This is what it looked like for me after using the direct link:

Parking was purchased at the Hilton around 8pm;  it was still available.

So disappointed in how ACE has handled this. I have Group 2 email and cannot access the event page through the direct link even when logged in. So some users are able to access the event page regardless of their group assignment and some cannot. They're not even consistently inconsistent with their announced lottery system.

I notice that this year when printing the parking vouchers - the letters "WEB" is included below the parking lot designation on the left side of the printed voucher page - I am assuming that means that the tickets were purchased via the ACE parking website - does anyone has any additional info on this? Since that was not included in past years, I just to make sure that there is nothing wrong with "WEB" showing up on the vouchers. UPDATE: Ace says that WEB does mean that the tickets were purchased on their site.

"Mea culpa" is the correct spelling. And I mostly doubt Ace is going to offer a satisfying one if they apologize at all. I'm sure it will be something like "Oops, our system had a loophole we hadn't discovered and we've fixed it now. Sorry if anyone didn't get what they wanted." Shrug.

Just like with stock mutual funds, past performance is no guarantee of future results.  I remember a couple of years ago some people in Group 2 were able to purchase CC parking and that Bayfront took forever to sell out.

I was able to connect with one of the supervisors for Ace to discuss this situation and so let me summarize ...

(1) No one was able to log in to purchase parking passes earlier than 10 am plus/minus a few minutes. So this statement we've heard about people getting in at 8 am PST to buy I'm being told is false. They insist this to be true. So can anyone factually confirm/dispute this? Can you provide your email receipt that time stamps you bought before 10 am PST?

(2) No one outside of Group 1 was able to log in to purchases passes during this exclusive Group 1 time. So the statements of Group 2 or Group XX got in is false. Again, can anyone factually confirm/dispute this with evidence?

(3) They state it's just gotten that much more competitive. To begin they state 65% of Convention Center parking is bought up by exhibitors so it's very limited and the demand keeps going up. This we all know of course is true.

So unless someone can factually with evidence prove otherwise I guess I'll believe them. What choice do I have?!

Not sure if this will help anyone but parking is available at the Solamar through Parking Panda for $10 a day during SDCC.
The only thing is that you need to exit by 7pm.  :)

In response to 1, I can confirm I did log on and purchase passes at 9:54am with no problem.

I am not drinking the Kool-Aid as it makes no sense, since the numbers of exhibitors/vendors is almost the same every year.  No significant increase noticed.

Part of me would not be surprised if some exhibitors sold their parking passes or used them as trade bait (ie I'll get you a parking pass if you help grab some exclusives for us).

Just another example that CCI outgrew the convention center. No pie-in-the-sky expansion plans can help this.

Also, I got a call at 10 min before sale time to get in there because it had been live "for a while".

Suffice to say, 1 is definitely inaccurate. I have my parking purchase confirmation email that I bought for a friend, it shows 8:59am. Also, I was in the system much earlier than that. I just didn't buy cause I was doing things and didn't feel like there was a rush to buy (boy was I wrong, and yet lucky at the same time.)

The Group 2 Parking sale will be opening up on Monday at 10AM PDT.
If you are still looking for a space, make sure to update/add your request to the Parking Exchange (https://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/index.php?topic=9178.0) thread.
This way any unused slots can be offered up to those who need them.

It's tougher this year, because you have to 100% trust that the recipient won't use the credit card on the account.

For the places I gave away, I gave the login info to the recipient and warned them to check and make sure that they entered new credit card info instead of using the 'stored payment method'. But I am trusting them on this... I have no way of preventing them from using my credit card to pay for it.

Would changing the payment method to a old prepaid visa gift card work to circumvent this? I used to do this to sign up for free trials in case I forget to cancel.

Yes, but it's too late to change the default payment method now. To do it, you'd have to make another purchase.

Bump for Group 2 for those who don't have their emails handy.

So I believe between this and several others have proven there was obviously an issue with people getting in before 10 am to buy. That likely explains at least part of the reason why by 10:20 am Convention Center was sold out.

However, it still doesn't explain it fully because historically Convention Center parking lasted at least a day or two of Group 1 so the bigger question now is WHO bought them all up?? The same ACE supervisor explained because they tied Credit Cards to the sign ups, more people who truly needed the parking got in vs a bunch of resellers or randoms who maybe didn't really need it or only needed one but entered like 50 times so the extra wins just never got used. Could that explain it? Maybe. I will say a quick look on resale market and I see sellers selling multiple sets (I saw one with 4 sets) but it's not totally flooded so maybe that's the answer.

Anyways, at this point it's done, nothing is going to happen so you got the parking you got. However hopefully the feedback will help ACE moving forward.

I was in Group 1 and definitely got by Convention Center parking about 15 min. until 10am.  I always check 15 min. early, and then every couple minutes, because ACE is amateurish and often has weird glitches that can be exploited

#3 is interesting and could prove to be the answer depending on how many people are in each parking Group.  ACE likely doesn't care about quality parking, especially since (oddly enough) the closest parking is among the cheapest while further away is double or 50%+ more.  If ACE annually tweaks their systems in order to allow more sales at a time, then it's plausible they have a ton of attendees vying for a very limited number of Convention Center passes.

It seems based on replies that the window opened before 9am, more than a full hour early.  Meaning convention center really sold out in, like, 80 minutes vs. 20 or so.  If there were indeed other Groups allowed to buy early w/Group 1 then there were more customers thus more buyers.

Really, ACE Parking is (once again) a clusterbuss of a dumpster fire: benefiting some, screwing others.  Like, the Cenobites I guess

I don't think anyone has been able to confirm with any real legitimacy that customers outside of Group 1 got in to buy. So it still begs the million dollar question of who bought up all the convention center parking and so fast ... even say in 80 minutes ... given historically convention center parking has lasted a day or two at least.

The answer could very well be only "real" buyers won this time because of the credit card info requirement so this year is actually more the true norm vs past years where a single buyer won 10 times but only needed one winning spot.

The other answer could be #3 where basically it's just that much more competitive like everything else SDCC now. Maybe we need to start calling this Parkpocalypse now!!!  :-[ :P

It's also just possible that there were fewer convention center spots this year. I remember one year before the lottery started, convention center wasn't available on PN at all, because exhibitors had purchased all of the available spaces. Maybe more exhibitors got that parking this year over the whole event?

MMM also uses the convention center garage as parking overflow, ever since they demolished their parking area to build the extension. I've stayed at MMM and parked at the convention center lot for a couple of years now. Maybe they're taking a bigger share of the lot this year too?

Great points, and you're right about MMM taking parking away from the general public.  I vaguely last year someone asking if I had a MMM parking pass or pre-paid one of the days so maybe that's it.

There's a "new normal" every year at SDCCI anyway, might as well bleed that into the parking situation!  And remember, most of this parking will absolutely not sell out prior to Comic-Con, so really only two lots will be full while most of the other ACE parking will be available after the last group buys parking.

Indeed.  All I see now is Wednesday for Group 2 as of 12pm (May 07).

Do you think with the new credit card requirement for the parking lottery it made people more nervous to lose their chance at parking thus more of them bought their parking earlier this year?  Kinda like when the Hall H line got more intense when they added the wristbands?  I'm not saying this is why but it could be an added factor that influenced people to scramble for their spots in line.

The first year of the lottery, I got group 3 and was able to get CC parking all days but Sunday. The next year I got group 2 and figured I was in like Flynn, but was only able to get Wed. at CC and the rest at Bayfront. I guess my interpretation, abetted by most of the people I know including me getting group 1 this year, was that for whatever reason ACE has been increasing the number of people in each group, making the parking run out faster. Just conjecture, tho.
Title: Re: SDCC 2018 Ace Parking Discussion Thread

Here's my theory...

1. Downtown hotels were harder to obtain then ever before.  I think partly because there were less rooms in the block. One thing I noticed was that more of the hotels were offering rooms during the convention at higher rates. Where in years past, they just showed no availability. It appears that less people got their #1 choice and likely more people then average had to take a room outside of downtown.
2. Due to the lack of downtown hotels, more people are going to have to drive in.
3. The new parking lottery system works as they expect, more people that really needed parking got it this year because there were less spammers, flippers, re-sellers who would send in 1000 emails to get as many parking spots as possible. I know people on this forum who sent in lots of emails last year and i am sure helped out people, but may not have used all the spots they won.
4. Hype - we the people of SDCC, continue to create ridiculous hype surrounding all things SDCC. This hype as it spread across social media creates mass hysteria and panic and people continue to come to this sales and lotteries as soon as humanly possible to make sure they secure they tickets.

In a nutshell... we (fans of SDCC) are to blame for these spaces selling out sooner, for the lack of downtown hotels and for the difficulties in obtaining a badge to this event.

I think it bears repeating that we are also collectively freaking out over TWO garages selling out: out of easily a dozen.  Not only will there still be PLENTY of parking by the time the last group has their week, there will still be lots of parking available the morning of, for the most part.  The trolley service drops you off right across the street from the Convention Center.  CCI has some great shuttle service.

We are definitely fanatical around here: we want to be as close to the action, as quickly as possible - be it hotels, parking, lines, etc.  I totally get that: I'm the same way, especially with a 3 year old (almost 4 by SDCCI 2018) in tow.  Sometimes it's prudent, though, to take a step back and remember there is still PLENTY of parking, even if it's not specifically where we want (MTS lot is really east to get in/out of if you know the 'back' way FWIW, and w/the bridge over Harbor there aren't any lights or trains to wait for to cross), and to try to remember to stay relaxed and enjoy yourselves.

Also, 10 weeks from tomorrow = Preview Night!!

However for those of us that have some extenuating circumstance or reason that really needs/requires that closer parking it is a total freak out. For me, I buy collectibles, a good amount and they can be heavy so to trek them even an additional block or two is a BIG deal! Especially when you have a mild case of scoliosis!

I will echo what karatekid has said.  I have no physical limitations, so doing the extra walking is not a big deal to me, but its such a time suck to bring collectibles or other items you get (especially books, which get heavy really quick) all the way to a further parking garage.  I've parked at MTS, which is not far, but can still take about 15-20 minutes each way to get there from the convention center so that's time that is spent when you could still be at the convention center.  I have done this a handful of times when the Hilton and Convention Center get full and I will just say, I make every and all efforts to avoid that when I can.  I typically leave later in the day, so traffic is never a big deal for me.

Also, paying the extra cost for parking when you are further away, is another incentive to get the better two parking lots.

Note that you could leave your purchases and exclusives by checking it in with the staff/volunteers at designated areas outside of the exhibit hall.  They will  hold onto it for a small fee

Thanks. That would help with not having to take valuable con time but it does not help the arduous task and trek to take them. So in that case t's just delaying when!

This is a great service and I have used it a couple of times.  It does save on walking and dropping stuff off.  I frequently like to store heavier books and posters in my car for signings or sketches that will occur later in the day, so having my car underneath or at the Hilton is easy to do these switches.   Hence, why I always try for the two main parking structures.  But in the event I don't need to make any switches, then this is a great service to use.

I do wonder, what is going to be available for the later groups or if a lot of people even will purchase in the later groups?

However for those of us that have some extenuating circumstance or reason that really needs/requires that closer parking it is a total freak out. For me, I buy collectibles, a good amount and they can be heavy so to trek them even an additional block or two is a BIG deal! Especially when you have a mild case of scoliosis!
I get that, and I understand that physical issues.  Have you tried the pedicabs?  I've used those before when I've parked fairly far away; IIRC they basically ask for tips so even on a budget one could utilize that service and not have to walk/drag stuff relatively far distances.  The shuttle buses usually also have stops pretty close to the further away lots.
I don't have any substantial health issues, but doing Comic-Con with toddlers and babies I 100% understand the desire to park as close as possible.  There were years over a decade ago when I was taking my oldest son (then 2 or 3 or 4) and parked a quarter a mile away or further, and at the end of a day dragging all sorts of 'stuff' back to the garage: one year I had freaking Jabba's Sail Barge LEGO set in one arm w/an FX lightsaber in the other arm, plus some stuff in more manageable bags (and my own backpack) while traveling with a young child who had just outgrown a stroller.  Definitely not ideal!

I suspect pretty much all other parking lots but Hilton Bayfront & Convention Center.  Just like practically every year.  I honestly don't know if the other lots sell out in advance, but I know in past years if you didn't get any group in the Lotto you could still buy from a number of other parking options well into at least June.  I remember people buying parking for the non-premium close lots and trying to hawk them on eBay or elsewhere even though you could still literally buy parking from those same lots instead.
Again we're freaking out about the 'premium' close lots (which, oddly, are mostly the cheapest) while there will still be a myriad of lots available even until July.  No one else will see this as a big deal except for us fanatics: inconvenient? Of course.  Ideal? No But when there are still a dozen ACE lots plus at least a dozen or two more non-ACE lots still on the map it's really not a big deal to anyone else: especially with the Trolley, public transportation, pedicabs, free CCI shuttle service (there are a TON of shuttle stops, including many near the more out-of-the-way parking lots).

I mean, with a little bit of planning one could look at last year's shuttle map (easy to find via google, even though it's no longer on CCI's page), buy pre-paid parking at a lot right by a shuttle spot, and then you're good to go.  Not as convenient as going down some steps, or crossing at one light for Hilton: but workable

If you're worried about parking, someone will let them go. I literally have tossed out convention center parking because it just went unused and I couldn't find a buyer.  Same with Chris Hardwick tickets. I couldn't give those away.

Any parking updates from Group 3 folks?

Logged in Monday morning at just before 10am, of course I checked the Convention Center and Hilton Bay Front first... both sold out for Thurs-Sunday, so I settled for the next closest: 6th & K Parkade (has anyone used that parking garage before? Anything to know about it? I'm assuming that they open promptly at 5 am and will allow us to part there until 2 am.)

Like others have reported, once my transaction was completed, now every lot for all days show SOLD OUT (although they aren't really sold out), so you do only get one chance to make all your purchases.

If you are not a Hall H person, 6th & K is a shorter walk to the Con Center than Hilton Bay Front. There are still  spaces available for  PN, Saturday, and Sun.  PN is  after 5p only, but the other days are for the entire  day.

It is a mixed bag when I logged in with my wife's  account.   Bay Front has only PN  available  and  6th & K have  PN (after 5p), Sat, and Sun.  All the other Tier 1 spots are gone.   Other popular sites like MTS and Tail-Gate Park have all 4 1/2 days opened.

MTS and Tail-Gate are the Tier 2 locations that you might want to consider as everything else is sold out or further away.

True, at least for more of the closest lots. Looks like MTS and Tailgate Park 1046 still have all days available.

GROUP 4 Parking Options (as of 11:15am Monday of Group 4):
* Tailgate Park 1046: all days (I use this one a lot for Padres games; isn't too far from the cross-bridge)
* Padres Parkade: Sat & Sun only (weird this is sold out 3/5 days while also being several blocks away - Tailgate is an open lot but MUCH closer)
* MTS Lot: Wed, Sat, Sun (this is slightly closer than Tailgate Park & is, IIRC, a garage - I've never parked here before for anything)
* Hilton Bayfront: Wed. only
* Gas Lamp City Square: Wed, Sat, Sun (never parked here before; I think it's a smallish garage several blocks from Convention Center)
* Diamond View Tower: Sat & Sun (on the other far side of Petco Park, north-east of the park-at-the-park area so fairly far away)
* 707 Broadway: all days (an indoor garage, maybe a mile away from Convention Center/20ish min. walk)
* 610 West Ash: Sat & Sun (smallish lot, the furthest away from ACE for the most part - around 1.25 miles/30ish min. walk)
* Park It on Market: all days (though after 5pm on Wed which could make things complicated for PN - fairly close walk, maybe around 10ish min)

Not going to list the further-away "After 5pm on PN) lots.

Still plenty of stuff left: buyers just need to determine on their own convenience/cost of parking vs public transportation.  It definitely seems like lots are selling out 'faster' this year than in past years: I suspect there were more folks in groups than in previous years though obviously that's just speculation.  I'm surprised Tailgate is still 100% available: it's one of the more expensive lots, for sure, but if you need "closest possible" this would be my way-to-go - you walk across the lot, cross one side(ish) street to get close to the cross-bridge, and then you're right by Hilton Bayfront and ready to tackle SDCCI.

I think there is a lot more available for Saturday/Sunday, because many of these lots serve downtown offices and are already full on weekdays during business hours.

Big changes to traffic flow this year.

My HBF parking just got a lot less convenient as I need to head West down Harbor. Anyone with Convention Center parking heading east want to swap? Have Wed-Sun at HBF.

Would you normally plan on getting there after 7 am? Sounds like these closures will only take place after 7 am, so if you're an Early-bird then you can drive in either direction that you want.

I'm kind of glad to see them doing this because I see it improving the pedestrian flow to and from Gaslamp, plus possibly making shuttle timing faster. I imagine there is plenty of people who don't have badges or parking who are driving by just to get a peek of the action. But, I am totally regretting my parking choice now. :(

We usually get to the HBF from the North...take 5 South then get off on Beardsley St.(exit 14B), right on Harbor Dr. then turn left on to Convention Way where HBF parking is. Not sure where you are coming from or if you need to get in and out but it looks like this way will work if you are leaving your car at the HBF for the duration of SDCC.

EDIT: Just read the "full announcement" form CCI- HBF parking will be accessible after 7am via Park Blvd. side of the convention center! Just let traffic controllers know you are a registered guest.

the "road closures" map (https://visitsandiego.com/sites/default/files/02_SDCCI_Closures_Map.pdf) seems to show that the convention way access from the south will be coned off but the "changes at the san diego convention center" map with traffic flows (https://visitsandiego.com/sites/default/files/01_SDCCI_TrafficFlow_Map.pdf) appears to show that regular traffic will be able to access convention way from the south.  I'll be interested to know what the convention center's response is.

We'll be coming from Embassy Suites direction, so I'm still not sure, interested in hearing other people's thoughts. Was thinking of maybe taking Market or G Street east to 16th Street, which runs into Logan, and then to Sigsbee to Harbor.

I see that Island will be open, but I expect it to be a bit more congested than Market or G Street. Could go even higher to Broadway.

yah I guess it's just an oversight or omission that they didn't include people with HBF parking permits with registered guests.  regardless there is another entrance/exit at the southeast corner of the parking structure but in the past iirc coming from the south you had to flip a u-ey at convention way to get to it.  so as long as they don't cone off convention way at the south side of the street we should be okay although traffic I assume will be much worse there than before.

It talks about access for registered guests - which I assume means those staying at the hotel - it doesn't say specifically those that have parking passes for the garage.

Also, has anyone addressed that situation where a long freight train blocks some of the streets at about  5 to 5:30pm every day? In other words, if you are trying to leave going south from the HBF and up Sigsby Street during that time by car, you might be blocked for 30 minutes or more! For pedestrians, they can use the bridge to get across during that time, but for cars, there is no way out unless you are able to via Harbor towards the Embarcadero.

If SDCC is coordinating with the Port Authority, I am confident there is a contingency plan in place.

Oh yeah, I've heard of that, I think it happens again later in the night as well. Always attempt to leave at a time before that happens.

When I messaged the convention center on facebook, they said they would look into it - which, to me means they didn't even think about when drawing up their plans - be prepared for a huge traffic jam if you are planning to exit HBF between 5 and 5:30 (or maybe as late as 6pm) and plan to go east from south harbor into barrio logan to get into downtown or freeway as the train just sits there waiting for final clearance to move further.

I'm traveling from the west on Harbor to get to HBF on 3 out of 5 days. I could have chosen Convention Center all days.

Gotcha.  Yeah, that's a bit of an inconvenient detour, to say the least.

Either that, or plan on parking at HBF before they block it off each morning!

In this scenario, instead of trying to make that first left onto Sigsby, etc, the alternative for folks would be to continue on Harbor for a few more blocks, up to a few miles, and then enter 5/15 from a little beyond Barrio Logan.

I noticed there was a lot of activity in this thread, so I checked to see what’s going on.  Good thing I checked!

Both I and my future sister-in-law have convention center parking, so we should be OK.  I think our only challenge is that train that blocks traffic for almost a half-hour.

I have been trying to bring up the train issue with the convention center folks for over a week now - and not getting a lot of response from them or others, except saying that I might have to travel down a lot farther on Harbor South since I will be exiting from the HBF. Apparently, the Convention Center doesn't see it as major problem. I hope there isn't a big traffic jam as a result of Newbies or others not knowing about the train - since they wouldn't be able to go back and park due to re-entry restrictions, they will just have to sit there until the train moves.

Is there a schedule the train follow so we know when to avoid it? Or just keep driving down harbor if u see a train?

I don't know if it will change any this year - but in past years it has shown up between 5 and 7 pm daily - and it appears to be a mile or so long - so it not only blocks foot traffic between the Convention Center and the Gaslamp (those on foot getting to the Gaslamp can use the crossing bridge that goes from HBF to Petco) but several cross streets (such as Sigsby street) that prevent you from going east from Harbor into downtown to eventually get on Park Blvd or the freeway. Once the train arrives it usually sits there for about 1/2 hour for what reason I do not know.

Text of "Harbor Drive Closure Planned During Comic-Con" e-mail from Ace:

Quote
Dear Parking Pass Holder,

We recently learned that Harbor Drive between First Ave and Park Blvd will be closed to vehicle traffic from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm during Comic-Con. If you have a parking pass for the San Diego Convention Center or Hilton Garage, follow the directions below to get there. See maps linked below.

To access the Convention Center:

From the North, East or South, take Front Street to Harbor Drive and go South.
From the West from Harbor Drive and from Pacific Highway to Harbor Drive.

The access the Hilton:

The only route avaliable will be traveling West on Harbor Drive from Via Caesar Chavez Parkway or through East Village via Sigsbee Street.

See official Statement below from the Port of San Diego.

The San Diego Convention Center, the City of San Diego, the Port of San Diego and the organizers of Comic-Con have announced a new traffic route that creates a pedestrian-only experience during Comic-Con International 2018.

By closing Harbor Drive, shuttles will be allowed to load and unload passengers directly from the street. One lane of Harbor Drive will be dedicated to shuttle loading and unloading for attendees.

Any exhibitor or attendee with a parking pass for the Ace Parking garage directly underneath the San Diego Convention Center will be allowed to drive through. All other drivers will be diverted away from the Convention Center.

WHEN IS THIS HAPPENING?

Harbor Drive will be closed to traffic (including bikes, scooters, and skateboards) on the following days and times:
WEDNESDAY, JULY 18 (3pm - 9pm)
THURSDAY, JULY 19 (7am - 9pm)
FRIDAY, JULY 20 (7am - 9pm)

I wouldn't be concerned as long as you have your barcode. I thought I didn't have the email either (my inbox is a mess), but when I searched "Harbor Drive Closure Planned During Comic-Con" like [member=2163]AzT[/member] shared I was able to find it.

So, in retrospect, I found that by closing Harbor in front of the convention center, they really increased the difficulty of getting into the parking there.  My experience was that waiting in the line of cars who each wanted to argue about being able to go through the coned-off section took an extra ~15 minutes each morning.

So enter the garage via the side entrance by Marriott.  Problem solved.

Did they let you enter that entrance? I know that in past years that at least at 5am, they didn't want to let you in via that entrance.

I used the 6th and Parkade parking garage this year... a couple of good things about that location, even though they weren't supposed to open until 5 am, I was able to park there as early as 4:30 am, also it was on the other side of the tracks so if I was leaving while the train was stopped on the tracks then there was no issue getting into downtown. It was a bit of an extra walk across Harbor but only added 10 minutes or so of walking time each time we needed to get to the car. Still would've preferred to park in the Hilton.

Being that I was at Hall H every day (except Sunday), I always had to be there at the crack of dawn before they closed off Harbor, so it was never an issue for me.  I was there in the early afternoon on Wednesday for Preview Night and I got stuck for 15 minutes.  Anticipating that, I gave myself extra time.

same was true for other ACE parking, we did overnights for Hall H and had to have our car out of the 6th & Parkade by midnight, so we moved it to street parking until about 5 am when we were able to pull pack into the ACE parking for the next day... what a pain, but it seemed to work.

they were supposed to be closed between the hours of midnight and 5 am, but we always moved the car before midnight, however even when I came back as early at 4:30 am for the next day, we were able to get in at that time...

None of them do. You're gonna have to move your car by 2am then park it on the street until 5 or 6am.

I did that and sometimes it was much faster and sometimes it was the same.  The traffic police that were supposed to be stopping/starting the pedestrian traffic would occasionally just not let anyone turn right into the driveway for a couple signals, at which time it was about as slow as going straight.
