Opening day for the races is on Wednesday July 17th. Expect Traffic on the 5 near Del Mar/Northern San Diego County so you might want to leave a little earlier to compensate.

If you're taking the train that day, enjoy watching all the folks in hats!

Seems this is the case every year.  We are driving down from OC and it almost always adds another hour to our drive time.  I hate that they do this.

We're coming from the OC, too. What time are you heading down?

We won't leave until around 3pm unfortunately so yeah we will hit the worst of it.  We have to try to get our toddler to take a nap before dropping her off at her grandma's house for the weekend (grandma doesn't enforce naps at all).

I get it. ;) We have 3 teenagers...I told them they'd better be up so we can leave by noon.
