SDCC 2019 Scalpers
« on: June 19, 2019, 03:05:20 PM »
Now that people are receiving their badges in the mail, the listings are starting to pop up on eBay, and probably other sites I haven't checked.

What's the easiest way to report these?

From what I've heard, is SDCC when they see this contact Ebay and they are removed, and possible badges get cancelled if they can get the badge info?
It's what I've heard.

lostninja is correct. I'm not sure what official email to use but their contact form has a drop down option for concerns that aren't listed elsewhere: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

I don't know why people are foolish to try to even buy a badge on E-bay. Your name on your gov't ID must match that on the badge.

I can comment that I got IDed. And I don't even have a normal badge. Luckily for me, I was with a bunch of people that could attest to who I am. The security guard should have just left me alone after I explained to him what was going on with my name. It was a simple issue of last name matching but my first name being slightly off. I go by a nickname most of the time.

(PS, I've actually had multiple run-ins with security. Last year was my worst. The security guard was on some power trip. After seeing my badge he says to me "is that supposed to mean something to me?" Once his superior told him who I was, he walked off, knowing he was in the wrong.

They flagged me. I kept going in and out because it was quicker to walk through the lobby than the sidewalk
so either one instance didn’t scan properly or it just triggered something. No biggie. Just pulled out my wallet.

I mean scalpers are most likely going to be in the hole if they are selling badges at this point.  Comic Con has been selling them directly on ebay for over a month and flooded the market.
Can't imagine anyone trying to sell these would get much over cost for them

Doing the eBay auctions for returned badges, may have been the best idea for ruining  the market for scalpers ever!
It is 2024, and I am still asking...where's my flyin' car??!! @fannishmarcia

I can think of multiple reasons, but the primary reason being, people -- especially those who've never attended SDCC -- don't know that a badge is assigned to a particular person / account. And secondly, chances of getting ID'd are slim. It happens, yes, but not frequently enough to deter people.

Furthermore, this year's cards are easier to forge since there's no hard plastic card. So scammers (and not scalpers) can make a ton of fake cards and sell them and then disappear before SDCC starts and when all those people realize their cards don't work.

Well, they are going for 800+ on ebay for a couple, regular cost is almost 600, that's still a 200 difference, not much but its something
