L.A. Comic Con, Sept. 25-27, 2020
« on: March 17, 2020, 06:15:11 PM »
Not sure if either of these is still going to end up happening, but I just realized that L.A. Comic Con is scheduled for the same weekend as the 3 A-Ha concerts in LA. So...potential opportunity to finally check out LACC.

comicconla All of us at L.A. Comic Con have been working every day since March to answer ONE QUESTION – Can we make enough changes and adjustments to how we put on LA’s favorite Con that it is not just FUN, but it is also SAFE for attendees, vendors, talent and staff despite the challenges of living with CV-19?

This week, we have the answer – NO and YES.

NO – not on September 25-27. But YES – on our NEW DATES of December 11-13, 2020. That’s right, we’re moving the show back two and a half months to give all of us – the health authorities, conventions, and fans – more time to develop and implement plans to keep us safe and healthy.

December? Kinda ambitious. I don’t think 2 months is enough time to push it back. LA is a mess right now.

Agreed, this is a nice idea but I think it will end up getting canceled. They even said they will only move forward with this if the health department approves it by September. I can’t imagine that happening.

Nearly all FB comments are not supportive, too.

They still haven’t canceled but you can buy a digital pass for the panel stream. It doesn’t look like they’re going to cancel.

So far no updates since the last announcement, but this is the week we are supposed to either see tickets on sale or the event get pulled.

“ Dear L.A. Comic Con Fans,

On Tuesday, September 29, 3-Session and VIP passes for Los Angeles Comic Con will go on sale, with special early bird pricing.

Why? Because after planning over the last six months, working with the LA Convention Center and taking guidance from the State, LA County Health and the Mayor’s Office – we believe our new plans and procedures allow us to do so safely, with full CV-19 safety precautions in place.

The Exhibitors, the Talent, and you, the Fans have told us that you want us to do the show ONLY IF IT CAN BE BOTH SAFE AND FUN. Click HERE to get more information on our decision to proceed.

SAFETY IS OUR #1 PRIORITY. If at any time LA County Health or the Mayor’s Office determine we can’t have a safe show, we’ll postpone and reschedule. And all tickets bought will have a 100% ROLL-OVER/REFUND GUARANTEE.

By buying tickets on Tuesday, you can demonstrate to the City and County that there are many fans who would like the opportunity to go to a CV-19 safe event in 2020 – who WILL wear masks and follow all the safety protocols. You can go to our Facebook event page and follow Los Angeles Comic Con’s progress and announcements.”

That's great news! I hope that they sell a lot of passes and hold a successful con. We need to demonstrate that events can happen again, to encourage others.

Europe's already experiencing a second wave of Covid and it's expected to hit here this fall/winter; I can't see how planning any large gathering this winter is a good idea.  Plus the announcement that D23 will skip 2021 for September 2022 implies that Disney is skeptical of large conventions happening in 2021.

If this actually takes place then I’m going, but I don’t trust it to not get canceled.

From reading between the lines, it doesn’t sound that they’ve actually gotten approval from the city or health department yet. They say they are following guidance from city/county/state but it does not explicitly say they are working with them. It only says they’re working with the convention center.

The part about ticket sales demonstrating demand also makes me think it’s not a sure thing.

Still, I like the precautions they are taking. Masks required and enough space for 6’ between each attendee. Also, the LACC is a bit confusing, a couple different buildings where you have to go outdoors at times, but that could work to their advantage for this event.

I hope that they can proceed safely and be successful. Life has to go on.

December is too close and I don't anticipate the situation will be any better then.  A vaccine is not expected to come out until early next year at the earliest.  I would hesitate to pose with celebrities!

Most celebrities wouldn’t be willing to pose with fans either.  Not to mention that things that have resumed filming are in a “bubble,” so convention appearances are probably a no-go for anybody in those casts.

Bubbles usually don’t allow for travel though.

What probably happened with LACC is they reached a point where they had to make a decision, but force majeure provisions either hadn’t kicked in or wouldn’t kick in, so their choices were either plan to go forward or lose a lot of money.
