« on: November 07, 2023, 02:08:48 PM »
Now that we have a date (November 18) we can get started planning. Who is participating in this sale?

Forum Housekeeping:

To avoid confusion, I've renamed this thread from "SDCC 2024 Badge Sale Preparation (Open Registration)" to "SDCC 2024 Open Registration."  No need for the other part, since it's... all related and encompasses getting ready for the sale regardless. ^__~

I had to submit for pro status renewal which I did back in September and haven’t heard back yet. However, I don’t think I want to have to commit to a 4 day plus preview night badge. I would be fine only going Wednesday, Thursday and Friday or just Thursday and Friday next year and keep all costs down.

I'm kinda surprised they didn't alternate weekend dates. Some people work every other weekend. Sadly, I won't be able to help my group since this falls on my weekend to work. Luckily I was able to get all the days I wanted in returning registration.

A lot of other people work EVERY weekend so I think they’re aiming for the majority who don’t work weekends at all, but the fact that you can purchase 3 other badges is also helpful in that regard.

There are always 'fallen soldiers' in returning registration, as well as those who did not qualify for the returning sale. Its nice if people who have badges are able to help out.

I wish I could but I'll be in France. I always hate missing a badge sale.

Question for tech/software folk:

Is it really impossible to give a unique link to everyone who is eligible, thereby trimming the number of folk who not eligible to purchase- from clogging the waiting room?  If it is, I will give it a rest and work with what we have but...at the moment...

I do not understand. ::)
It is 2023 and I am still asking...where's my flyin' car??!! @fannishmarcia

Are you asking about people who already have badges from Returning Registration? I'm not sure there's enough people participating in both sales for CCI to take notice of the overlapping groups.

As anyone- even those who do not have a member ID, can access the waiting room, it seems to get even more clogged.  Seems it would help if only those with member IDs could enter the waiting room it might help streamline the process of sorting folk and moving people once the sale begins.

It is possible. With the old system (which worked fine... not sure why they changed it) they gave everyone a unique code to enter the waiting room... one per member ID.

I believe that they wanted to emulate this in the new system by forcing everyone to login to their Member ID accounts before entering the waiting room. But when they tried that at returning reg last year, the thing crashed and the sale was delayed. Which is (I believe) why there isn't a restriction right now.

I am also hoping that they fix this.

Is it possible the switch to this system might have been financially motivated?  Given that carpeting for the convention floor is gone for cost savings, anything is possible. I have no idea how much it costs to use services like on-peak and Queue-it, but if the current route is cheaper, might be a reason for the change.
